I've been a loyal yolk customer for 20 plus years, and I used to take my three kids to the one in River North as they were raised in old town. For 20 years I've never had anything but glowing things to say about yolk, but today my child, who is now 17, ordered a scrambler and asked the waiter if there was a limit on ingredients. The server Michael, who was great by the way, said no but he apparently did not understand that my son was trying to ask if it cost more. The omelette was over $30 which is absolutely absurd. I explained this to the manager and she did not care at all and said 'I'm sorry sir It's posted on the menu.' I will never go back. Simply out of principle, what a dim shortsighted response from the manager. She could've tried anything. For example, 'sir. Can I give you a $10 coupon for next time' this would still make Yoke make money. I still took care of the server as he really didn't do anything wrong, but just an awful experience I would give it a -5 stars if I could. Removing the manager would do a lot to keep your customers satisfaction. Food was good as always though. Shoutout to Micheal who was amazing. read more

Food was cold and replaced upon my complaint to the server. Server was very good, sincere and apologized! Bill for this breakfast and drink was around $ 19.50. Asked for manager, who came over acting as if he did not know why I asked for him. He was sorry, but was more concerned about "seeing what was going on with his kitchen staff." He did offer to fix another meal for me, which I refused. Never offered any resolution on my bill. I promised to him to never come back, and I won't. Breakfast here was delicious! We ate here several times and each time the food came out very good. I had the biscuits and gravy with two eggs on top. The sides were different as the first time I got red potatoes (delicious) and the second was cheesy grits (again delicious). The biscuits were like home made with a little body to them. The sawdust gravy with sausage was not overly salty and was just the right amount for the biscuits. My coworker got a dish, which I don't remember now and it was very good. You might have to just show the photo to figure out what it was. Apologies. ;) The service was great both times and the staff were all very friendly. The food here really is not good- the French toast was horrendous and the hashbrowns have a weird aftertaste. The egg scramble was good tho.

The scrambled eggs were amazing. And the bacon was incredible. And the drink got out to us really quickly. But the hash browns were lacking flavor but overall very good experience. read more

Now this ladies and gents, is how you do breakfast. This was the first meal that I had while in Chicago, and it set the bar pretty high for all else to follow. It was pouring rain when I arrived and I couldn't wait to get inside to get warm and dry. As soon as I entered the spot, the staff greeted me with smiles. I was sat right away in a comfortable booth with a nice view of the interior of the restaurant. It was still fairly early so the place wasn't too packed. I love how warm and cozy this place feels. A bit of a rustic feel with a bright color scheme and open and airy atmosphere. Just about everything on their menu sounded delicious. This place is known for their sweet breakfast plates, but I was in the mood for something savory. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with chorizo and a seasonal Caramel Apple Chai-der and both were extremely tasty. The Caramel Apple Chai-der was unique and had a beautiful apple aroma. It was the perfect blend of chai tea and apple cider. It definitely warmed me right up on that cold and rainy day. The chilaquiles were scrumptious! They were topped with over easy eggs and served with fresh avocado slices and crema sauce. The chorizo was well spiced and the perfect addition to the plate. Service was wonderful from beginning to end. Very attentive but not overbearing. All of the staff members were cheery and seemed happy to be there. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Coming in for brunch on the way to the museum, I expected basic breakfast diner fare. But Yolk is ever so slightly more upscale, with a huge menu and some unique options alongside the usual ones. I opted for the smoked salmon scramble, which was delicious. I never thought salmon and cream cheese would go well cooked with eggs, but it weirdly works. With a side of cheesy grits and toast, it was a huge meal that filled me up till dinner. Our first time being here and the food was really great. Prices are high but it's not bad for the portion size. The pancake selection are great. I will say the server did not know what a dirty chai latte was and when I did get it was very watery so I don't recommend you get that here. I did appreciate the food coming out in a quick and timely matter. I do recommend this place and it's within walking distance to the train and park to enjoy a scenic view afterwards. It was my boyfriend and I's first time trying Yolk. When you are within a block, the delicious smell of waffles and pancakes hits you. When you walk in, you are greeted by fresh brewed coffee. We went on a busy Sunday afternoon and the wait was only 30minutes. We got a variety of food (way too much for just 2 people). To start, we got the avocado bread. It was good, but we felt like it was maybe missing some salt/ spice. My bf got the All Star combo and I got the California omelet. Everything was fresh and good, but we both felt like it could have been better seasoned. I would say though, the side of potatoes that came with my omelet was super seasoned and good. Also, if you add their hot sauce, it does elevate the food. My bf upgraded his meal to the cinnamon french toast roll and it was definitely a good choice. The warm gooey-ness was sensational. Highly recommend to get it. The pancakes and waffles were pretty average, but still notable to mention because they do come freshly made. Lastly, we got a "glass" of the strawberry orange juice. Whoever just made my order that I placed through DoorDash did a very poor job. All of the food was cold and I knew something wasn't going to be right when I saw my driver on the way 5 minutes after I placed the order. This is truly unfair to paying customers that aren't able to come in to the restaurant and we pay just as much but are not getting the same quality. I could understand if the driver took a long time but he received my order very quickly and got it here just as fast and it was completely cold and not appealing whatsoever. I decided to eat here way back in Los Angeles for two reason they have a great rating on Yelp plus it was not far from my hotel. The building is bright yellow, I was seated right a way in a booth, there also reg.table and chairs and a bar stools style sitting. I ordered the very berry french toast, it consist of challah french toast, greek yogurt , almond granola, fresh berries drizzle in honey this was so good, one over easy egg with a side order of links, breakfast was delicious. the menu here is kinda like a small booklet with so many unique and different Items on it. After quickly settling into my room at the nearby Blackstone, I realized that I was hungry. That blueberry muffin and iced coffee I wolfed down at LaGuardia wasn't cutting it, so I decided to explore the area for some lunch. High star average, lots of reviews, great pics, and a 0 minute wait via the Yelp Waitlist pretty much sealed the deal for me - so I made my way down Michigan Ave for a little sustenance. Yolk is large - it's kind of rectangularly shaped with a bar area towards the front and a combination of tables and booths throughout the space. The decor is somewhat contemporary with splashes of primary colors throughout the space - really works well with being primarily a breakfast spot. The menu has a number of egg dishes - as well as oatmeal, yogurt, burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads. Even though their star attraction is breakfast, the menu contains lunch items too which was perfect for me since it was early afternoon. The pot roast sandwich looked intriguing - it came topped with Swiss and served on sourdough with a side of fries. The menu indicated it was a staff favorite, so I decided to go for it. I enjoyed the sandwich - the meat had good flavor, and there was just enough protein that it was a solid sandwich without it being overwhelming or the sandwich falling apart. Service was good - everyone was really friendly, from the moment we entered to the time we left I felt completely welcomed. Hubs had chicken and bacon waffles. Chicken was moist, but flavorless and the gravy was just a few tablespoons on top- not enough to get much out of it. I had the frittata southwest style with jalapeño and salsa verde. It was lovely around the crunchy edges but was mushy in the middle under the thick pile of melted cheese. I am glad to have found this place because I did like the food I ordered. I had the hashed brown, corned beef, and scrambled eggs plate (Combo) and Nutella crepe plus the South African hot coffee. We got the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, Chicken & Waffles and their seasonal Oat Milk Horchata Cold Brew. the Cinnamon Roll was tasty but not as mind blowing as many of the other reviews made it out to be. It was drier than I expected it would be, and needed a good dousing of maple syrup to help with the texture. the cream cheese frosting on it was totally my cup of tea despite being a frosting hater. one of the pieces on my French toast was noticeably burnt on the bottom, so i asked if they could replace that one piece, and they ended up making me a whole new order. I respect their level of customer service to go above and beyond what was asked for. the fried chicken on the Chicken & Waffles was probably my favorite part, along with the savory gravy. the chicken was cooked perfectly with a tender inside and golden outside. the waffles on the other hand were also a bit dry and pretty flavorless , even with the bits of bacon mixed in. read more

Bless the breakfast diners that give you an option to substitute/upgrade toast to pancakes because let's be real, if given the option to choose between toast and pancakes, pancakes are obviously the way to go. So with my smoked salmon scramble, I opted to upgrade to banana blue crunch pancakes. The smoked salmon wasn't anything spectacular but it served as a nice source of protein. The pancakes though, banana and blueberries in the pancake with a crunch to it? Quite a nice way to start the morning off. Yolk is a quite popular breakfast chain throughout the city. I was added to the waitlist online through Yelp around 9:30 am and we were seated around noon on a Saturday morning. Yelp sent a text as we were next in line, then once the restaurant was ready for us. We were seated immediately and our server was great, even with a full restaurant. I ordered the Countryside Skillet with pancakes as my side -- My pancakes weren't much to write home about. My friend ordered the All-Star Combo with French Toast and an iced coffee. Our food came out pretty fast and it was pretty good. It was a traditional breakfast, but they do offer seasonal favorites. I would come back to any Yolk location, but probably not on a weekend, or I'd make reservations in advance. I wouldn't be able to justify sitting around waiting for a table here. read more
