Our first time being here and the food was really great. Prices are high but it's not bad for the portion size. The pancake selection are great. I will say the server did not know what a dirty chai latte was and when I did get it was very watery so I don't recommend you get that here. I did appreciate the food coming out in a quick and timely matter. I do recommend this place and it's within walking distance to the train and park to enjoy a scenic view afterwards. It was my boyfriend and I's first time trying Yolk. When you are within a block, the delicious smell of waffles and pancakes hits you. When you walk in, you are greeted by fresh brewed coffee. We went on a busy Sunday afternoon and the wait was only 30minutes. We got a variety of food (way too much for just 2 people). To start, we got the avocado bread. It was good, but we felt like it was maybe missing some salt/ spice. My bf got the All Star combo and I got the California omelet. Everything was fresh and good, but we both felt like it could have been better seasoned. I would say though, the side of potatoes that came with my omelet was super seasoned and good. Also, if you add their hot sauce, it does elevate the food. My bf upgraded his meal to the cinnamon french toast roll and it was definitely a good choice. The warm gooey-ness was sensational. Highly recommend to get it. The pancakes and waffles were pretty average, but still notable to mention because they do come freshly made. Lastly, we got a "glass" of the strawberry orange juice. Hubs had chicken and bacon waffles. Chicken was moist, but flavorless and the gravy was just a few tablespoons on top- not enough to get much out of it. I had the frittata southwest style with jalapeño and salsa verde. It was lovely around the crunchy edges but was mushy in the middle under the thick pile of melted cheese. The French toast of the month-pineapple upside down- was unimpressive. The French toast was just a piece of white toast - not yum hock and a bit cardboard like around the edges topped with maraschino cherries and pineapple. I was looking for a good brunch spot as we needed to head back LA the same day. We needed to get something hefty before leaving. I am glad to have found this place because I did like the food I ordered. I had the hashed brown, corned beef, and scrambled eggs plate (Combo) and Nutella crepe plus the South African hot coffee. High star average, lots of reviews, great pics, and a 0 minute wait via the Yelp Waitlist pretty much sealed the deal for me - so I made my way down Michigan Ave for a little sustenance. Yolk is large - it's kind of rectangularly shaped with a bar area towards the front and a combination of tables and booths throughout the space. The decor is somewhat contemporary with splashes of primary colors throughout the space - really works well with being primarily a breakfast spot. The menu has a number of egg dishes - as well as oatmeal, yogurt, burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads. Even though their star attraction is breakfast, the menu contains lunch items too which was perfect for me since it was early afternoon. The pot roast sandwich looked intriguing - it came topped with Swiss and served on sourdough with a side of fries. The menu indicated it was a staff favorite, so I decided to go for it. I enjoyed the sandwich - the meat had good flavor, and there was just enough protein that it was a solid sandwich without it being overwhelming or the sandwich falling apart. Service was good - everyone was really friendly, from the moment we entered to the time we left I felt completely welcomed. We got the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, Chicken & Waffles and their seasonal Oat Milk Horchata Cold Brew. the Cinnamon Roll was tasty but not as mind blowing as many of the other reviews made it out to be. It was drier than I expected it would be, and needed a good dousing of maple syrup to help with the texture. the cream cheese frosting on it was totally my cup of tea despite being a frosting hater. one of the pieces on my French toast was noticeably burnt on the bottom, so i asked if they could replace that one piece, and they ended up making me a whole new order. Bless the breakfast diners that give you an option to substitute/upgrade toast to pancakes because let's be real, if given the option to choose between toast and pancakes, pancakes are obviously the way to go. So with my smoked salmon scramble, I opted to upgrade to banana blue crunch pancakes. The smoked salmon wasn't anything spectacular but it served as a nice source of protein. Yolk is a quite popular breakfast chain throughout the city. I was added to the waitlist online through Yelp around 9:30 am and we were seated around noon on a Saturday morning. Yelp sent a text as we were next in line, then once the restaurant was ready for us. We were seated immediately and our server was great, even with a full restaurant. I ordered the Countryside Skillet with pancakes as my side -- My pancakes weren't much to write home about. My friend ordered the All-Star Combo with French Toast and an iced coffee. Our food came out pretty fast and it was pretty good. It was a traditional breakfast, but they do offer seasonal favorites. I would come back to any Yolk location, but probably not on a weekend, or I'd make reservations in advance. I wouldn't be able to justify sitting around waiting for a table here. read more

The service and food was great, this place is pretty busy and depending on the time you go, there's typically a wait. We were seated fairly quickly at the bar counter where you can see all the kitchen action. I'm not sure if this is a good idea though, I mean if I want to see all the happenings while prepping my food. I guess the only questionable thing was one of the expediters climbing on a food prep area to reach plates. I haven't been to Yolk in years and excitedly visited this morning to only be disappointed. I was excited to try the corned beef hash and from the pictures it looked like a good ratio of potatoes to corned beef. The photos had chucks of corned beef in the dish but when the dish came I barely saw any corned beef to the point I had to ask for a little bit more. Unfortunately I was told they weigh out the corned beef for each serving so they definitely are not giving a lot out. I ended up ordering a side of sausage which had a bland taste and uber soft. It felt like baby food soft. I tried to make the best of the rest of the meal but they gave us watery syrup. Literally it was like water. They offer a premium syrup for $2 more. The eggs were the fake kind that seems like it comes out of a carton. Hot sauce, salt, and pepper couldn't save the food. I had so much food left over after I gave up eating that I took the food to go as a courtesy and I don't like wasting food. I highly recommend walking as fast as you can past Yolk. There are way too many overpriced tourist places that actually serve decent food. This is my last time visiting a Yolk. I paid $50 for food that I couldn't even stomach eating the leftovers. read more

This was my favorite breakfast while in Chi-town. It was one of the recommendations I had received and I finally made it here on the last day. I am glad I did. The seating was plenty in this place and the staff was really helpful. There was both booth and table seating. There were several things I was interested in on the menu but I settled on a countryside skillet worth a side of red velvet French toast. Let me tell yo it was a great mix of sweet and savory. The skillet had the egg cooked just perfectly and set on top so that the yolk would run into t he skillet as you dug in. The ingredient in the skillet were thoughtfully combined and seasoned excellently. It was extremely tasty. Then the French toast. It was a great side size and it was made on a nice think cut bread (red velvet bread -however one makes that! ) The a syrup was real and it was the perfect topping.l When I am back in Chicago - this w2ill be on my list to return to ! Located near Roosevelt and Michigan, this restaurant has a reputation of good food. Make reservations early because it's packed. I didn't plan so I had a 20 minute wait. If there's room at the counter, there's no wait and no reservations generally needed. I had the $13 breakfast with eggs, potatoes, low cal turkey sausage, and toast. The scrambled eggs and toast were perfect. The potatoes could be more crisper and flavorful. The low cal turkey sausage is edible but next time I would order the full fat protein. Considering the amount of customers dining, the service time was decent. There was a Bears game and plenty of fans eating here sprinkled with a few Wisconsin cheese head fans.
