My friends and I came here after the Shamrock Shuffle, and it was the PERFECT post race breakfast! No matter what kind of breakfast you're in the mood for, there's something on the menu for you. We heard about this place- there's a few locations in Chicago, this bright and sunny location was bustling on a Sunday morning. They don't take reservations but thankfully we were seated right away. Their portions are pretty hefty but our group did well finishing their food! My wife and I were looking for somewhere to have breakfast on a Tuesday morning close to our hotel and Yolk fit the bill. It was a 5-7 minute walk to Yolk. We were promptly greeted and seated. I woke up one day craving pancakes and decided to come here !! The place was very lively and the inside was packed but I was seated very fast ! I ordered the pancakes with the 100% maple syrup. When the pancake came out I was shocked the butter didn't melt onto it but sat on top which showed me the pancake wants very warm. That was slightly disappointing but outside of that the pancake was good. Additionally the maple syrup is very rich! I think it was just too heavy for my stomach first thing in the morning but if you can handle strong flavors for breakfast you may like this. I wouldn't overly recommend the french toast (it was quite egg-y and not cinnamon-y enough for me / a bit too soggy) but the eggs & protein were very good. And my horchata coffee was delicious. Went to Chicago to visit/sight see and this was my first stop. We were greeted and seated, they tried to put us at a table out in the open but we requested a booth and they obliged. It was pretty slow but there were people in each booth on either side and the table next to us. There was music playing overhead but it wasn't overbearing. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benny- English muffin, smoked salmon, grilled tomato, red onion, poached eggs and a house-made hollandaise. It definitely could've used more salmon but it was delicious! I also got a strawberry-orange juice, I think but for $3.50 it wasn't big enough, two sips and it was gone. Our server was nice enough, my friend and I split the bill. The chicken and waffles had an unique touch with the bacon infused in the waffle. This was the extra memorable spark. This dish was a good mixture of sweet with savory. The west coast crepe was interesting because it had a hint of sweet with the crepe, but all the insides were savory. It was delightful. The vibe of the place was amazing with lots of counter seats with tables and booths. Service was quick and attentive. However, I would say it was missing just a little extra to make it a 5 star.
