Absolutely wonderful experience with Yolk - South Loop this past weekend! They were able to accommodate our large group (16!), even with at least two other large groups already there! All of our food was delicious, fresh and hot; service was quick; we regularly had our coffee and water refilled. Price point was great - especially given we were in a larger city with higher sales tax. I don't live in Chicago, but if I did, this would be a regular place for me! There is a bus stop and a train stop, plus two different parking garages all within a 5 min walk. I highly recommend this place to anyone, both residents and visitors!! read more

Get in at wrong time, just at end of lunch hour pick time. Waited longer then expected, but server was very nice and friendly. That made for good experience. My eggs were unevenly cooked. One was hard poached and other how suppose to be. Potato on cold side, but server brought extra one on house. Good customer service made up what was missing in Egg Benedict kitchen cooking. May I suggest getting a to-go box right away and putting some food aside for folks living on the street. When we chose to go to the South Loop Yolk we had no Idea what to expect other than breakfast and eggs would be involved. Once inside we realized whether local or not, people knew about this place. Amazing! Deliciousness and fast all in one. Friend got the waffles and I got chicken and waffles. The waffles had bacon bits inside of it with a delicately fried piece of chicken on top. Our waiter had at least 5 tables so obviously it was packed and busy so we didn't get checked on too much but it was almost preferable for two introverts. The atmosphere tends to be a bit on the loud side due to the sheer amount of conversations and the music is pretty hip but not yelling at your conversation partner loud, just get a bit more close and firmly talking. Overall, amazing experience. Definitely reccomend checking in via yelp. Helps with wait times and gives you a chance to get dressed, walk from your hotel, and spend maybe 15 min talking outside before being seated. :) read more

We were here every day on our long weekend in Chicago. The food was great and it was fast - never took longer than 5-10 minutes. For us, it was perfect. We used the Yelp waitlist to get us in line while we walked over (It was usually crowded, especially on Saturday morning). The cinnamon roll French Toast was great, but I suggest you go with the All Star combo and then add on one piece of the cinnamon roll French Toast (it is rich and two pieces was overkill and yet not filling). Things we loved: French Toast, the sausage links, the pancakes, the bacon, the fresh squeezed orange juice, the omelets, and the sunny side up eggs. Things that could have been better: the coffee and the scrambled eggs. The service was excellent. I would open one of these near me if I could. read more

Was wandering around the South Loop yesterday and saw this place. I was interested in trying it before leaving the city today, and when I suggested breakfast to a friend, he recommended we meet at this place. I was intrigued from the name, and I was hooked the moment I walked in. The place is stylish, and while the tables were fairly close, I never felt like we were interfering with other conversations or that they were listening in on ours. Radu took great care of us the entire visit, and the food was excellent. I was sorry I only had one morning and had to pick one menu item as there were several I wanted to try. Yolk is solid! You need to make a reservation by putting your name on the waiting list. It is a good idea and goes fast. It is walking distance from the Chicago Hilton. They have everything you would need for breakfast. I chose the scramble with a variety of ingredients and it was great. Not sure what more you would need for breakfast this place has it all. Came here for brunch. The virtual waitlist was really helpful but went by quicker than the estimated time so we are rushing to get there. Even though it was busy we had good service. There were a lot of bugs flying around which was a little distracting. The food was really just OK although my friend really enjoyed the sweet breakfast items that she ordered. We came here on a Sunday morning and ordered lots of the regular breakfast menu items like eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, potatoes etc. Overall there were just things missing or off, a little of each item; we were not impressed. The potatoes were not hot, pancakes were on the dry side. The line was out the door. Will give it another shot if we don't have to wait 40 minutes next time. read more

The restaurant was busy when we visited during the weekend. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated. I personally enjoyed the yogurt a lot. It is a fun concept to put yogurt, granola, walnuts, and fruits in half pineapple. The pineapple was very sweet. The entire dish was refreshing. I would say this is a solid 3.5 stars. It's a pretty good place for Brunch but I do prefer Bongo Room. We got the Chicken & Waffles and the Red Velvet French Toast which were $12.5 each. A little on the pricey side but not terrible for Chicago. The Red Velvet French Toast was the standout by far. I can see why they are famous for it and why everyone gets it. It was more like a red velvet swirled cake with icing in between every layer. It was very good and sweet enough that it didn't need any syrup. It was expensive though as you only get three pieces. The Chicken and Waffles was just ok. It really could have been so much better with some changes. The chicken was dry and thin. A juicier piece would have been great. The waffle was a bacon waffle which sounded great but was just dry and had very little flavor. A lot of food for the price though. Overall - this wasn't a bad place but there are so many options for Breakfast/Brunch in Chicago that I probably won't be coming back for some time. read more

Okay, so I have a love for yolk. First and foremost, they are BYOB and have all the fixings for mimosas AND Bloody Mary's. This means you can get quality brunch food at a respectable price while not paying an arm and a leg for brunch drinks. I will say tho, it's not really the environment to turn up for brunch tho. More diner with a twist. Some of my favorites are the West Coast Crepes, Breakfast Mac'n'Cheese, and the bacon waffles (the bacon is in the waffle batter). The line can get a little long so if your coming at a peak time, put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time. The do have their special brand of hot sauce (it's the perfect breakfast hot sauce) but because of supply chain issues they haven't had it recently.... Booooooo! Oh and in the summer they have these fun refreshers with tea and juice. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Even though there's a lot of husky and bustle, this place seems calm and collected. Employees seem happy and very nice. It's in a great location on Michigan Ave, very close to Chicago Hilton where I stayed. Decor-diner interior with hints of county throughout restaurant. Simple and tables and booths filled their dining area. Service-very good. Waiters and waitresses seem very nice and hip. They served on our very well and made sure our coffee was always full. Food-I don't usually eat out for breakfast because I'm very picky when it comes to eggs. This placed surprised me. I ordered "chilaquiles con huevo" and loved them. Just the right amount of spice and cheese. The eggs were cooked medium just the like them. Coffee is freshly brewed and pancakes large and sweet. Good morning Chicago! Early morning breakfast before PoGo Fest 2019! Woot woot! I purchased a lovey Countryside Skillet which was fairnin size and very filling. It's base is potatoes with onions and mushrooms and cheese and you can see the attached photos for the other ingredients lol! With the dish came an option for toast, pancake or biscuit? I chose toast. It was fluffy and moist and sugared properly. The coffee to me is pretty bomb. It is a locally grown coffee called "Metropolis?" Stopped in for brunch on a weekday. Atmosphere is casual and the food and service is good. The south of the boarder eggs Benedict wasn't bad. Other yelpers have commented that the sauce isn't mind blowing and it's not. One of the eggs was over cooked so it didn't run. But the chorizo was really good and the avocado upcharge is worth it. Overall I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't try to impress anyone with the Benedict's here. The BLT sandwich looked pretty amazing with a generous portion of bacon and fresh veggies including an avocado mash. The pancake special was a lemon blueberry and this is where the place really shines. Lemon pancake had an excellent flavor with blueberries cooked into the pancake and topping it. Pancakes have an excellent consistency that's a perfect balance between light and pound cake. Would definitely recommend the pancakes as a side or a full order. Also saw a couple bring in their own champagne and the "special" orange juice they had was strawberry orange, so I'll bet that was good. No full bar, but you can bring your own mimosas apparently. read more

The service is good here, but that's pretty much it. The Iron Man omelette I had had a weird texture and held too much liquid from the ingredients, the potatoes were a little undercooked. The oat milk horchata cold brew lacked flavor and had way too much ice. The establishment itself was a little loud, our table was sticky even after having it wiped down and 3 of 4 of our chairs were wobbly. Overall, this spot is great for meat eaters and vegetarians. However, we all thought the food was just okay and lacked a lot of flavor. The breakfast burrito was rather plain, and the potatoes had to be drowned in salt and pepper to really taste them. The eggs Benedict was also bland, and the eater said "the egg texture is really funny" (not stuff exactly what she meant). Our server was genuinely friendly, but the food took a very long time to make it to our table. Yolk dominates the breakfast/brunch scene in Chicago and it's pretty self-explanatory as to why this is the case. Decent variety to choose from and also not very expensive as well. The dishes showcased here are very simple, but yet very tasty at the same time. (I mean you can't really get too fancy with breakfast -- right?) This goes to show that the ingredients used are high quality and the staff preparing the dishes are very skillful and consistent. Not much more I can ask for breakfast. read more
