DO NOT eat at this place. There was a sharp piece of glass as long as my finger in my chicken hibachi that I almost had in my MOUTH before I realized what it was. The owner's response was "it's not our glass" (whaat? where else would it have come from?") and then called the COPS on us when we protested paying the bill. I've had fried rice from here twice. There is never any meat in there. I've had the beef and the chicken in separate occasions. I'll probably give them a go again as they aren't expensive but they don't seem to be consistent either. Their fried rice looked yellow once and dark drown a different time. In discussing said topic, if we were to focus in on say... excellent Asian food, particularly in the Greater New York area, I think its pretty obvious that we need to talk about Yobo. My family and friends and I have been coming here for years. First it was us kids being dragged to try new types of food (when all we wanted to do was see who would drink the grossest concoction of table sauces in their coke), years later the same group of delinquents found ourselves seated around the table with drinks that weren't so pungent but rather, tasty. Yay for Yobo! Although it's been years since I've been to this place, Yobo has been a fixture on Route 300 since I was a kid and it's still there today, serving up very high quality Asian food. Recession be damned! While Yobo's exterior is placid and calm, resembling a Japanese-style house, the interior is an eye-assaulting mixture of decorative kitsch from every Asian culture. And let's not forget the giant fish tank near the front door. I think they even have koi fish in that thing, although I could be remembering incorrectly. Anyway, the staff at Yobo is very nice and extremely personable, and when I arrived I was seated promptly. The menu is not strictly Japanese, and you can find a variety of Asian dishes ranging from Chinese to Thai. The prices are reasonable, and while my visit was so long ago now that I don't remember what entree I had, I do remember that I had the seaweed salad as an appetizer and it was excellent. My ex-boyfriend, who was my dinner companion that night, knew good Asian food when he tasted it and was pretty much an authority on the subject - he'd grown up going to high-quality Asian restaurants in New York City and Westchester. His verdict? He loved Yobo. He thought the food was fantastic, and you will too. Yobo really does serve some of the best Asian food in the Hudson Valley, all at reasonable prices. The staff works hard to ensure that good food is on everyone's plate and that the customers are satisfied. The Hudson Valley lacks quality Asian restaurants in my opinion, but for the past 20 years Yobo has been swooping in and saving the day time and time again. I've been to Yobo 5 or 6 times in the past couple years and each experience is great. The service is always attentive, polite, and friendly. The ambiance is very serene and it's done very tastefully to look like a Japanese cherry tree garden with tea lights-- one of the photos from the gallery will highlight that. Their biggest draw for me is the food. The sesame chicken or chow mien is a staple for my orders here. They have a lot of selection and I've yet to see anyone in my party dislike a single food item. Yobo is a pleasantly-decorated restaurant with an attentive, friendly staff. As vegetarians, we found the menu to have enough variety to more than satisfy us. The St. Valentine's Day Massacre: The evening started by a non-smiling greeting by Miss Sourpuss. She never smiled from the time she greeted us until she showed us to our table. We were seated next to a blaring music speaker where the loud music made it impossible to talk. I asked to be moved and were. After the woman who was the evenings entertainment started singing, we realized they didn't move us far enough away. She was awful..off key...monotonus and did not fit in at all to any type of romantic atmosphere. Where did they find her? I'd rather listen to chalk on a blackboard. We ordered the beef dim sum as the appetizer. Luckily, I looked at them after cutting them because along with the beef ones, there were shrimp ones there also. I have a fish allergy and if I ate that piece of dim sum, the outcome would have not been good. The Pad Thai that my wife ordered had a very weird taste to it. My Shechaun Beef (I asked for no spice) tasted fine but It appeared the kitchen staff added peppers which was not an ingredient listed in the menu..and I don't care for peppers. The peanut butter explosion we had for dessert was very good. Little did we know that the dessert would be aptly named later on in the evening. Ten minutes after leaving, we both developed stomach cramps. We barely made it home when both of us had EXPLOSIONS of another kind for the next two hours. I still had severe stomach cramps the next day. Now I have written over 250 published restaurant reviews and I don't think our problem was caused by food poisoning but I believe it was caused by some type of unsanitary conditions or improper food handling. Yobo has excellent food and a beautiful atmosphere. The wait staff is friendly and prompt. Some of the food is overpriced for the amount you get - for example, the crab rangoons. They are the best, I've ever had, but are tiny. For what they charge, I think they should double the portion they give. But that's my only complaint. When I first walked into Yobo I was instantly dazzled. The decoration in this place is fabulous and made for such a great atmosphere. I started with a very optimistic attitude, but I was soon let down when we waited at least 10 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order! Once they came and we ordered the whole meal things picked up. The calimari appetizer and the sushi appetizer were both very good. There wasn't a lot of calimari however. I had the Yobo special, which was very enjoyable. All the dinner meals were plentiful and came with salad and white rice. The deserts were great! I had chocolate mousse and it was delicious. So, overall the place was nice, the food was good but the service was slow. But hey, we were there at 6:30 on a saturday night so it only dropped down to 4 stars. So we've been here three previous times. All were great experiences BUT unfortunately this time it was just not good. It was like they were asleep at the wheel that night. On their menu they have Rogue's Sriracha Imperial Stout....it's spicy, strong and goes wonderfully with Asian food....AND THEY WERE ALL OUT!! So with that, I was already pissed. (I actually went there for it too). Strike one against the management that night....it was too early in the evening for them to run out of something that is featured on the menu. Not to menti on they could have easily stocked upon it from Beer World on rt32 IN new Windsor for cheap. There's just no reason to run out. We ordered the special Rainbow Roll and 4 other basic rolls...all of which contained way too much avacado, stale tasting avacado....something was wrong with it. ANYWAY...a Rainbow Roll is supposed to basically be a California Roll (crab, cucumber, a little mayo topped with various pieces of Sashimi....but this was just piss poor. They used an insane amount of Avacado and the rest was CREAM CHEESE, no crab, WFT...it was like they had no idea how to make it. Perhaps they had a new sushi chef that night and he/she was terrible. When we sent it back the first time they actually inserted more freakin avacado after taking out the cream cheese...that should have never been there in the first place. The waiter all the while seemed to have no opinion on the matter. He was clueless as to what the menu said the rolls were supossed to contain. We'll chalk it up to an off night....we'll be back but perhaps not for a while. It's time to look for a new sushi joint in town. My mom barely touched her food and couldn't do anything (no substitution) other then pay for it. And my sister, my mom and I got three different dishes and they all had the same issues. I use to go to this restaurant when I was a little kid. I remember my stepdad getting this amazing plate. So I ordered it tonight and boy was I disappointed. Didn't taste the same and the steak tasted very off. Probably because it wasn't cooked to the right temp but then when it was it still tasted like crap. When the server told the manager I was unhappy they just let it be and gave me my check where I then had to ask for a discount since I didn't eat the steak because it was horrible. It tasted old. This is my favorite restaurant to get sushi I always get the sushi sashimi deluxe which is amazing. The ginger salad is the best from here no one makes the ginger dressing better than Yobo. On top of their amazing sushi their hot dishes are also amazing the sesame chicken has got to be the best I've ever had. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because the food was pretty good. I had a aesthetically pleasing Pad Thai. I had some sesame chicken and a salad with a redeeming dressing.The staff was competent and courteous. The negatives include the rocky furniture and awkward seating. I arrived with a large group understandably, however 3 people were trapped booth style in chairs against a wall and its a lot of movement on the end seatees to release them. Yobo has a fine arrangement of food that is quite extensive. Service is ALWAYS great and sometimes there is a wait, but it is def. worth it. This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Anyone that wrote a comment based on busy days like Father's Day or Mother's day should know that there is usually 100's of customers there that day. 100's.
