We went tonight for Father's Day. We went based on his last visit and the reviews. We were very disappointed by the service! We ordered a sprite and 2 tsing tao's. The soda took 7 minutes, the beer 16. We ordered food and waited. Finished our beers and waited. Three or four staff walked by our empty glasses and we waited. Finally we just started asking...and waiting more. 29 minutes for refills. 27 minutes between apps and dinner. The food is ok but not worth the atrocious service, particularly since they weren't busy! We will not be back. read more

It is always sad to experience a restaurant that has passed its heyday-especially when you can see the glimmers of greatness left behind. It's obvious that Yobo was an amazing restaurant-once. The building and the decor are lovely, and designed to truly draw the diner into the experience-the salsa-esque music, however, was not. The waitstaff was genuinely friendly and welcoming, and were quick to both bring and clear dishes from the table. The greeting staff was - a bit off, but I try not to judge... Which brings us to the food. DH and I came here for my pre-birthday dinner. We've lived in the area for a while, and never gotten to try this long-standing gem of Newburgh. Thankfully-we have 2 more chances to get the celebration right. I found the menu limited, and some of the flavor combinations were quite frankly - mind-boggling. Sushi with melted mozzarella cheese, fish with cheese - it took both of us a while to find dishes that appealed to us, and we are neither of us unfamiliar with pan-asian cuisine. We decided on a selection of appetizers and maki rolls. I got the sate sampler, and DH got the miso soup. This actually turned out to be a very good Japanese *mushroom* soup, not quite as advertised but well done. The sate was - less-so. The chicken was barely cooked through, and the "peanut" sauce was not like anything I have ever had at a Thai or Korean restaurant. And they put this odd torch/bbq thing on the table that consisted of sterno gel on steel-wool, lit. I didn"t get it then, still don't get it now. Then our "main's" arrived. California roll (the baseline test as far as I'm concerned), shimp & chicken dim sum, Spider roll, and an appetizer sampler with crab rangoon, BBQ ribs, fried shrimp and sliced pork. I would *love* to give the proper names, but I had a bit of trouble pronouncing some of them, and the waitstaff was unable to help. The dim sum were presented steamed in their basket, with some unidentifiable piece of greenery beneath them. I wouldn't have minded so much, but it was so damp that it stuck to the dim sum, and had to be peeled off. The texture was fine, but the flavors were dull. Everything fried was greasy - from the rangoon to the shrimp to the crab in the spider roll. In addition, the spider roll was just crab and rice, served with a sweet sauce that soaked into the rice so that it completely overwhelmed the other flavors. The California rolls were small, and mostly rice. The BBQ ribs were overly sweet - I realized that they are supposed to *be* sweet - but these were almost nauseatingly so. All in all - while the food was not hideous, it wasn't good either. It was passable, and there are much better options for asian cuisine in the area. The decor is beautiful, and if the food was just a hair better - we'd go back just for that. But as it stands? I'll wave as I head down the road to JAK. read more

I had never in my 22 years of living in the greater Newburgh area, visited this apparent staple of Oriental Dining. My friend Jason suggested we go and when I got there I was really impressed by the atmosphere and very quick service. We went on a weekday fairly early so I'm sure on the weekends it may get a little more busy. As we were seated a young girl took our drink order, I ordered a mango citrus-y amalgamation of freshness and it was incredibly delicious. They also serve you this sweet tea which is a nice combination with nearly any meal you order. I was confused however when another gentleman came over to our table and asked what we would like. I told him that we were being helped already thank you, but my friend interrupted me and said that the other girl was just a cocktail waitress. I can't remember the last time that I was waited on by a cocktail waitress. Even the name alone makes me think of some corny 80's movie with Patrick Swayze with feathered hair and a sleeveless shirt. But I digress.. I ordered the Sesame Chicken which I was told by my friend was a very large portion and he was correct. I found two things to be a little disappointing. The plate was mostly chicken and had only a few carrots to offset the sweetness of the chicken. I know that sometimes this is how food is prepared but by the end of the meal the sweetness of the chicken had become a bit over-bearing. Jason and I ordered another meal of Thai Curry Shrimp and Chicken with veggies. It was absolutely amazing. For anyone who has never tried Thai curry, drop whatever your doing, schoolwork, chores, feeding your toddler, simply drop your offspring and make a B-line for the nearest Thai restaurant, walk, run, take a rickshaw! , just get dat' curry. It is the most interesting tasting dish I have ever had, incredibly light and refreshing. In summary, Yobo delivers appropriate and entertaining atmosphere, a diverse and reasonably priced menu (about 12-25$ depending on your choice), and quick service. Anyone looking to try something new and very satisfying should make their way to Yobo. read more

OMG. This place was so good. The egg rolls are to die for. I got the pork crepes and the portions were huge! They had edamame, garlic and pepper special on the menu. Everything was delicious. They even gave us plum wine at the end, on the house. Thank you for introducing me to such great food! read more

The ratings were high so my friends and I visiting on our way back home from college. The atmosphere was very nice and the decor was pretty cute. The food however wasn't as good as expected. We asked for spicy items yet our food didn't come out as spicy as we wanted and the spicy sauce they provided was very bland. The pork roast buns however were very good but that could have just been frozen store bought. read more

I went to Yobo last week and had the Nutty Spicy Chicken. I was so impressed with this dish. Just the right proportions of nutty (walnuts and peanuts), spicy, veggies, and chicken. The chicken was cut into cubes which ordinarily makes it difficult to cook without drying it out but the benefit is that it's easier to eat. Well, I have to say the chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. It was a 5 star dish. read more

What a treat! I took the family here and we had a blast! When you walk in you are greeted by an amazing ambiance if a Japanese garden. The music and atmosphere is extremely relaxing. Then you meet the staff, each and every person were very personable and polite. We ordered a volcano roll which was AMAZING!!! my son had a California Roll which was awesome. They were great appetizers. To drink, I had the classic Mojito and my wife had a mango tea. My Mojito was phenomenal! I don't like mangos so, I didn't like the tea however, my wife who loves mangos, she liked it. Our main dishes were each amazing! I had the Pad Thai and my wife had Shanghai seafood pot. And my son had the sesame seed chicken. I loved everything about our visit! The only thing that would have made our visit better would have been of they had an aquarium :) as far as the food, it was amazing and I'll for sure be back! read more

We visited Yobo last weekend. The food was okay, the service was great. However, the best was the funny haired host guy. He cracked some jokes and made us feel to be home immediately. read more

Delicious food, very good sushi, and the service was nice and patient. Ordered the sashimi special and I loved it. The atmosphere is very calm and quiet. Their other dishes are nicely prepared such as teriyaki for those who do not like sushi, their other dishes are very good as well. read more

This place is one of a dying breed. Yobo reminds me of my childhood where my family would go out to eat Chinese food. Now mostly it's fast food Chinese which the quality stinks, not here though. The food is top quality. However they could update the menu. Or maybe I just eat there too much lol read more

LOVE this place! It is so cute inside! Drinks are good. I LOVE the Cruncy Spicy tuna maki its perfect! The crab rangoons are good but they are very small. Prices are average. read more

Food is mediocre. However, after we finished the meal and made the payment by cash, the restaurant manager ran out of the door in the rain, and knocked on our car window and asked furiously, "how come is not paid?" Wow, seriously???!! read more

I have been going to Yobo a few times a year for special occasions for as long as I can remember. The owner is on a first name basis with my family and we always enjoy sitting in a center table surrounded by all of the fountains and what not that people enjoy. Everyone seems to love their Thai spring rolls, and I enjoy lighting things on fire so the chicken kushiyaki is right up my alley. I have played around with my entree choice, but the Korean bbq, hunan 6 stars (and other fresh noodle dishes) really are quality. The service here is always a bit off for me. I am not sure if it's the separate waiters for beverage and food, but there always is something delayed or forgotten during our meal. Yobo gives little gifts on holidays and free glass of champagne or something like that, it's a nice little touch on special days. Nice atmosphere, good food, and a typically good experience every time. read more

We wanted to love this place, but the food was over-priced and the portion was much smaller than expected. Still, if I happen to be in the area, I might try it again. I did come on a weeknight, and sometimes, it's an off night. Service was good, the decor was eclectic asian, and the food is definitely pan-asian. read more

Amazing spring rolls, the decor makes you feel as if you are in Asia. With a wishing well that runs through the restaurant it truly is a gem. The coffee press at the end of the meal was the icing on the cake. read more

Amazing food! The egg roll was off the charts! Along with delicious sushi (fresh fish) this is the place to go!!!!!!

Not good! Stay away! I took my friend from Taiwan there, and he told me the sushi was spoiled. I don't eat sushi, but I trust his opinion. read more

Great sushi here! It's a pretty average sushi and Japanese restaurant but I always enjoy my experience here. I've never had bad service. They have really great fruity fun drinks! read more

This is the original Asian Fusion restaurant and never disappoints. The egg roll is heaven. The Yobo Tidbits are divine. awesome. Service is great. They made our anniversary special and we will always remember. Try them if you have not had the pleasure! read more

I heard about this Restauraunt from the front desk staff at the hotel I am staying at. The location is convenient and the parking easy. The decor is kind of intimate and the light levels are low. I was greeted by many nice people and we decided to eat at the bar. The bar is not very long but it was very nice to sit at. The bartender was great and very attentive which was what I was hoping for. We ordered the spicy Chinese steak with broccoli and vegetables and an entire boat of the various tuna options they offer. It all came out quickly and aesthetically pleasing. The Volcano role was very nice. It is wrapped in Avocado and they put this aoli sauce on it. I thought it was a little too saucy but you scrape off what you don't want and get after it. It is very good, I will order it again for sure. The steak was very tasty as well. It is a tenderized steak so it comes out thin and tender. I liked the seasoning and spice level, the heat was medium which is what I like. I ordered some cocktails which were expertly made. I thought the bourbon sour was tasty. read more

Good atmosphere, the aesthetic is truly pan-Asian. Reliably good food. Can get pricey if you order a bunch of appetizers, but they have all been wonderful as well. read more

It's apparent that nobody has ever been to Thailand or a Thai restaurant before. If you are looking for a hot can of $20 la choy Chinese mixed vegetables and white rice after waiting 60 minutes this is your place. The poor shrimp and scallops died a horrible death drowned in a brown 'firecracker' sauce. They gave their lives valiantly trying to save this dish. Maybe they were Thai warriors? Bow your heads in respect for their sacrifice in battle. read more

When my wife and I moved to the area this was one of the first places we checked out. Our most favorite restaurants as filled with Asian Fusion places. This one was way off. I felt like I walked into a really bad old movie. The place is decorated in such a ridiculous way I seriously laughed out loud. the food is another story. I so thoroughly didn't enjoy the food that I can't even tell you what I got. All I know is that it was a chicken dish and it didn't taste very good all. I'm trying to think of a couple of positive things to say about the place, but I am at a loss. I can not. read more

Yobo is a solid choice for upscale East Asian cuisine. It's less classy now than it used to be - you can now show up dressed however you want and prices are more reasonable - but it's still a good place. The interior borders slightly on cheesy-looking and shows its age in spots, but it's appropriate and contributes to a good atmosphere. Staff is decent. Food is tasty and moderately priced. Alcohol is fine, although I've never gone for the mixed drinks. I don't have any actual complaints. It's just that Yobo isn't my absolute favorite sushi place in the Newburgh area, and it's changed a bit over the years. Whether or not that change is good... it's up to you. There are positive and negative aspects to the changes, but the food is still good and newcomers will enjoy Yobo. If you're not worried much about prices, I'd definitely recommend this as a place to eat. read more

What a wonderful place to eat. The food is hot fresh and delicious. The service is excellent, they are fast, friendly, and attentive. The decor is pretty and fun. Even my 5 year old who eats Lo Mien at many places, said this it the best Lo Mien I ever had! This place is great for a date night or family dinner. read more

I just had dinner at Yobo's and it was as good as it gets. I started off with a delicious pumpkin soup made with a touch of coconut. It was perfect for this dreary rainy day. My boyfreind and I shared the sushi for two. It had a wonderful assortment of makis and nigiri. I especially l;iked the tofu pockets with shrimp and mango. It was pretty busy for a week night and I can see why. Our server was very helpful and recommended both items...we were glad he did. We enjoyed the ambiance of Asian music and soft water sounds. Its wonderful that they take the extra effort to provide such an authentic Asian experience. We really felt as though we were in the Orient. read more

My fave sushi place in the area. I've had a variety of their offerings but the sushi boat is my favorite. Great selection by the chef every time and high quality fish. There Miso soup is also very good with deep flavors that stay on the tongue. Only thing I haven't liked from here is there calamari which was less than tasty and came with a dry dip (salt?) instead of the usual bbq or garlic found at many asian restaurants. It's a great place for a date too as the interior is pretty cool....set up like a Japanese garden. read more

The one star is because the sesame chicken is good. Service was mediocre. Was told after I finished my soda that it was extra for a refill, meanwhile the glasses were absurdly small. The small umbrella does not make up for it either. You could tell owner has no idea what she is doing and will run this place to the ground. read more

Coming from California I've been spoiled with amazing sushi, but this place takes care of my fix. I've tried other things outside of the sushi menu and it was OK. Their breaded shrimp with wasabi (a special) tasted stale, like it was deep-fried that morning and left out to sit until ordered. The shrimp was rubbery, BUT still edible (I don't want to completely rule out this place). The atmosphere is worth coming here though! read more

This place is decent if you want Americanized Asian food. Wish they had hibachi tables!

We were cruising down three highway looking for a place for a quick dinner and this was such a pleasant surprise. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We will definitely keep it in mind next time we are in the area. read more

Went yesterday, this was our first time and we wanted to try something new. We were the only people in the restaurant and it was a Saturday. The decor was really quaint and unusual, with Christmas lights on trees and origami birds hanging from the ceiling. The menu wasn't as extensive on the sushi side as we would have liked, as that was the reason we were there. I found most of the rolls to have cream cheese and even mozzarella added to them, which is not traditional and annoying if you have a dairy allergy like I do. We ordered two of their specialty rolls and four of their 8 piece rolls. They were good, but not amazing; one of the large was a little "unbalanced" as far as flavor, and the shrimp tempura roll was rather cold. I asked for spicy mayo and they brought me hot sauce with a little regular mayo squeezed in. NOT what I meant, but oh well. We ate every piece because we were hungry and it was decent, and they filled us up rather well. I was a little disappointed when our waiter recommended the Volcano roll AFTER we were finished, as I like to hear that while deciding. Staff was pleasant, one of them was rearranging the decor while we were eating and happened to swear the F word rather loudly when things weren't going his way. Decently priced, our entire bill came to about $63. Overall it was a nice experience, but we were in good company so that helped. We will be trying a different place next time, as it wasn't good enough to entice me back. read more

I think the interior is a little campy, but that was kind of the fun of it. We had Cho Chi Bao for an appetizer it was light and fluffy and delicious. I had the Orange duck. This apparently is a concoction of Yobo. They roast the duck then shred the meat off the bones, add an orange sauce then mash it into a paddy and fry it on a grill under a hot weight. The upshot is you have this square slab with a crunchy seared surface and a meaty interior. It was served over white rice and was really awesome. read more

My family and I come here every year for Christmas Eve. The food is good - the restaurant ambiance is neat and service is excellent. Unfortunately they do not have reservations down yet - every year we make a reservation and every year we have to wait. I can't help but think they do this so we buy drinks at the bar since that is where we are asked to sit and wait. Maybe offer a cocktail on the house in situations like this. read more
