Have you ever had a spot thats super close and convenient, not all that great- but you really really want it to be good so you tell yourself "its not very good but I'll give them another chance". TONS of rice, very tiny pieces of not the freshest looking fish, rolled very loosely and cut into sloppy enormous sized chunks. Every. Single. Time. Small amount of brownish avocado on top. Lambada roll supposed to come with a "special house sauce". Mine? Slathered in good ol' plain, white mayonnaise on top!! Are they even trying? So gross. Oh and to top it all off, its lukewarm because they always bag it up with hot dishes if you order any. Chicken teriyaki just dry, old, and mediocre at best. I got edamame as an appetizer and its just plain steamed. No flavoring, soy sauce, garlic, nothing and I didn't even see it as being an option. Only reason they got 2 stars was because one of their Ramen dishes was decent- the gyoza ramen although it was nothing spectacular. It just wasn't horrendous like the other food. With no military MRE on hand, Cup Noodles is pretty much the only "food" available at home. Pretty staggering figure! Earlier tonight, my brother and I were on a quest of finding some light fixtures for the project. Since neither of us had eaten, we grabbed mom and headed towards the Concord/Martinez area, where a couple major home improvement stores are located. Yo Sushi became our dinner choice since a Home Depot is located in the same shopping center. We walked in at around 6:45pm and were greeted by a young woman of Southeast Asian descent. The space was clean but tiny. Seven small tables made up all the seating. Decorations such as small Japanese cartoon figurines, small potted plants, and large Japanese cartoon pictures could be seen. There was a large screen TV on the wall playing the latest K-pop music videos. The menu was vast so it took us a while to figure what we wanted. We decided to order "safe" since we had no idea if this place was good or not. We ended up getting: - 2-Item Bento Box with Grilled Salmon and Tempura ($9.95) - 3 Way Combo x2 (teriyaki chicken, beef, and two pieces of shrimp, $8.95 x2) - California Roll ($4.75) - Spicy Tuna Roll ($5.50) NOTE: the ordering is done at the counter. You place your order and the food will be brought to you. The bento box was the first to arrive. It actually looked pretty good. Besides the main entrees, rice, a small scoop of potato salad, some Korean pickled radish, and a couple orange wedges completed the box. The salmon had nice grill marks on it. For the tempura, I saw one shrimp and five different types of veggies. Mom couldn't finish the box so I ended up eating some of the salmon and tempura. The salmon was surprisingly good. It wasn't dry and the staff was nice enough to put the teriyaki sauce on the side in a small plastic container. Tempura was pretty average. The batter was pretty thick but the veggies weren't over fried. The 3 Way Combo was served in a large bowl. Rice was covered with a generous amount of grilled beef and chicken and a couple fried shrimps. A pretty liberal amount of teriyaki sauce on top finished off the dish. The chicken was grilled nicely, but the same couldn't be said about the beef. It was pretty dry. The shrimps were okay. The batter was a bit thick. The CA and spicy tuna rolls were okay. Lots of rice but no off taste was noticed. I thought the service was excellent. As mentioned earlier, the young woman I encountered was very friendly. She was considerate and helpful. The entire meal cost about $45 with T/T. Even though the food wasn't super good or authentic, their generosity and excellent service have made a fan out of me. IMHO, a 4-star rating is a fair assessment on my experience this evening. If you live and/or work nearby, consider giving them a try! I've been going here for the past couple of months for the sashimi combo. Portion sizes were fair but have gotten smaller as time has gone on. This past visit will be my last. The wakame salad was yummy, and the miso soup wasn't bad. The sushi rolls weren't bad, per se, but for the price, they were far less than great. The rolls were large, but the pieces were cut too thick and not cut all the way through. IMO, entree items shouldn't be sweet. The Dilly Salmon roll was overwhelmed by raw onions. The deep-fried shrimp in both the Giant and the Morello rolls had too much breading which was soggy. That seemed to be the source of the sweetness, as the Dilly Salmon (after removing the onions) was the only truly savory roll. I knooowww, this sounds crazy... 4 stars for the food & service!! When you walk into this place, you will be confused, perhaps concerned or worried even, haha... because it looks super janky (ie. hole in the wall, no ambiance, cramped seating, prepay style) not to mention that it's located in a Wal-Mart parking lot?! Yes, but the employees were soooo nice, they actually cared that we came in-- that we were willing to squeeze into a tiny table in a high traffic lane & try their food. I mean, I could have been starving, lol, or maybe it was because of my low expectations, but I was impressed. My husband and I were on a gardening mission. Yet we were hungry. We needed to be fed quickly and were wanting a healthier choice than a fast food burger or pizza. Yo Sushi to the rescue. This was our first time so we were considerably overwhelmed by the vast menu options. Luckily there was a small "Specials" menu that had about 6 different options. I chose the Hot Mamma roll because of all the "spicy" or "hot" ingredients. My Carl chose the Jalapeño Poppers. We both got a Black Tea Boba. It was only about 5-7 minutes and our order was being brought to our little table. The poppers were really very good, the peppers being tempura and stuffed with cream cheese and crab. The roll, though good, wasn't nearly spicy enough. Thankfully there was the wasabi paste that really spiced things up in a nice way. Cute shop. Very small inside. Limited seating. I've become the ultimate Japanese food snob, and it's no one's fault but mine. Recently back from Tokyo, I just can't bring myself to eat run of the mill sushi anymore. I came here last night, mostly because my friend suggested it and it was alright. I spent a few minutes deciding between sushi rolls, chirashi, or nigiri, and ultimately, I went with tonkatsu ramen. While I was waiting, I noticed that a few other patrons had ordered ramen too, and that was a good sign. What I liked about it was the two pieces of tasty, tasty pork. It was along the lines of what I had in Japan: a bit fatty with distinct porky flavor. The ramen also had two slices of fish cake, and the saddest part, a hardboiled egg. They couldn't soft boil them?? The noodles were okay in the beginning when they were al dente. I could tell they were packaged because some pieces were stuck together in a corner shape. I could overlook that because not everyone's gonna have fresh-made noodles. The broth was more of a chicken-broth based soup and it could've been worse, the fact that it tasted homey (like someone's momma's recipe), redeemed it. The portion was huge and I couldn't even finish the other half of my hardboiled egg. My friend had a bento with terriyaki chicken and some california roils. The scoop of rice it came with looked exceedingly sad. Really, really dry. Anyone who reads my reviews knows I don't give out 5 stars easily. They definitely deserve some hype and the 5 stars. They follow covid procedures sadly no dine in option but it's a small location so understandable. They have a huge menu with plenty of options including quite a few for people that don't specifically want sushi. I got a seaweed salad both times I have gone and can honestly say best seaweed salad I have had so far. Seaweed salad is a must for me at any sushi and ramen place so I have had a lot. The sushi itself is also great. Though the one piece of constructive criticism I could give is to watch portions. The Nigiri on the deluxe had really bit piece so the ratio of rice to fish was off. As well with the roll they could definitely do with cutting it into smaller sections and having more piece. I have a good sized bite so I can handle a bit piece of sushi but that was a bit much. With that said overall they are phenomenal. Everything from customer service and price to food. I definitely recommend you stop by and give it a try next time you are craving. read more

I stopped here on my way home, looking for a quick bite. I was craving sushi and i've been to the yo sushi in the vallejo area so assumed it wasn't going to be much different. Initially wary of the review online, I proceeded and decided that I should give it a try anyway. I ordered two bowls of ramen(shoyu and spicy seafood) and a crown california roll. The crown roll was pretty good. The ramen came out, and what a disappointment that was. Both bowls weren't good at all. The broth for the shoyu and spicy seafood tasted like it was old, almost rancid. I hated to send it back but I couldn't stomach the taste. The cashier/server was very polite though and ask the food if it was okay if we could exchange the seafood ramen for another roll. I felt so bad, so i ordered a roll that was cheaper than the price of the ramen. The roll that she gave me in place of the ramen was disrespectful. It wasn't rolled properly and it was literally falling apart when I tried to pick it up and eat it. I understand that it could be frustrating to have to remake or make an entirely different dish because someone didn't like the original. But why would you put the integrity of your craft on the line. I know this person can make a roll because the first one came out nice. But to put that pitiful roll in front of me when I ask for a new item is disrespectful and shows an obvious lack of concern for the customers happiness. Get it together. read more

After 10 minutes of deciding what we wanted to eat, we both individually got the salmon 2 item special with tempura and bbq teriyaki with tempura 2 item along with the deluxe California roll. Let me tell you that the food was so bomb 2 item special is ! each and the roll was $10. Something cents. With the way the economy is everything is around above $10 but the food felt like a 5 star meal. The salmon was super juicy and the beef teriyaki exceeded all expectations. The sushi was on another level! I couldn't stop eating it haha and I was sharing with my boyfriend. Not only was the food worth the price but the girl cashier at the front with blonde highlights was super nice! Loved her customer service! She was extremely accommodating with the sauce, very communicative with how we wanted our order, for example, if we wanted the shrimp tempura as well or just all broccoli. When we used to live in Vallejo, Yo Sushi is our go to sushi place, both Fairfield and Vallejo branch. What joy to find out they have a branch in Martinez close to where we now live. We're reminded why we love Yo Sushi; friendly staff, delicious food and reasonable price. The staff' always smiling eager to please. It's a small place, pretty much like their branches in Fairfield and Vallejo so it can fill up really quick. The place was well lighted and of course it has the required flat screen TV showing KPop! The food is delicious! We never had a so so moment here, always Yahooo moment! I'm sure there are better sushi places around but for this price range, this place is the bomb! I tried the Crunchy roll and it was perfect. There isn't a sushi bar but there are a few tables to sit and eat at. He was super nice even though it took me a little long to order my food because there was just so much to look at. I ordered the veggie roll and a potsticker roll to try because it looked interesting. The rolls were alright, too much rice for my liking to be honest and they feel apart easily. My boyfriend ordered the beef teriyaki and it was so good! And the gyoza was good too. I would come back again, on a cooler day and I'd order a different roll or a beef teriyaki plate.
