Minced pork noodles: The minced pork was succulent and well marinated and they also had noodles instead of rice. Loved this so much! Pork dumplings: Piping hot and had a nice soup filling. They were crispy, had a good amount of toppings, and very filling. We would definitely order them again! The turnip cakes were light, not greasy and good flavor. Though I like mine usually with some shreds or pieces of turnip for more texture. The Guo Tie; potstickers, had good amount of fillings and also some soup. I hadn't had a Taiwanese breakfast in such a long time, and I got excited when I came across Yi Mei while in the area. Driving over there after a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains, I was almost salivating over the shao bing and oyster omelet I would be having soon... However, to my biggest disappointment, Yi Mei was not open yet for indoor/outdoor dining; it was still doing take-out as we pulled into the parking lot. Any case, we opted to buy some food to-go and just eat in our car. We opted for shao bing you tiao, hot sweet soy milk, oyster omelet, fan tuan, and a few zongzi and Taiwanese pastries. Total came out to $50, which is four times how much it'd cost in Taiwan. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers... Eating in the car was a messy affair, as the flake and sesame seeds from the shao bing kept coming off. Not complaining, though, as the shao bing and you tiao were well-made. The soy milk itself wasn't sweet as advertised, and it lacked any real soy taste (all the while being a bit too watery for our taste). The oyster omelet, although chock-full of large, juicy oysters, was a disappointment, as there was WAY too much leafy green in proportion to the egg and oysters inside. The fan tuan was pretty good, although we had it later in the day and the you tiao had already become soggy. The pastries were a hit-or-miss, too. The sun pastry and pineapple cake had great flake and crust, but were bland on the filling. The red bean sesame pastry was absolutely delicious, though-- super flaky and bursting with red bean paste. Overall, it was kind of a let-down, as I'd hoped for an actual sit-down kind of Taiwanese breakfast. Alas, I understand the protocols due to COVID-19 are still in place...the quality was just A-Okay for me, not enough want to go back to try it again. Salty rice roll with sour pickles: More expensive than all the other taiwanese breakfast places that I've been to, but theirs is the best so far! There wasn't too much rice. There was a lot of pork sung, and the oil bread wasn't too oily, so the fan tuan itself didn't feel oily. Rice was a little hard this time, but usually it's soft and sticky. I wish there was a little more pickled vegetables because I like the slightly sour flavor and crunchy texture, but still a 5/5. They have a large parking lot shared with a few businesses, but I never had trouble finding a spot when I go for breakfast around 10-11am. Egg wraps (Dan Bing) - 5/5: Exactly like the one at the most famous spots in Taipei Salty Soymilk - 4/5: comes with all the goods. Donut, pickled veggies, pork floss, and chili oil if you ask for it. Could use a TAD bit more flavor and have the option to add an egg. Then it'd be just like the Taipei version! Rice Roll (Fan Tuan) - 4/5: Get the purple rice version! It's more special. Yi Mei serves simple, delicious and light Taiwanese breakfasts. I typically order online for pickup, and there are lots of customization options on their ordering site. I've tried their soymilk, egg crepes (jian bing/dan bing), and "rice burritos" (fan tuan). The soymilk is very slightly sweetened (definitely not as sweet as other sweetened soy milks I've had) but the soy flavor stood out and I could tell that it was made in house. I've tried the pork floss and ham crepes, and they all taste great despite taking them togo. It doesn't get too soggy and portions are decent. I also get the fan tuan with purple rice and although the filling is simple, the portions are also quite decent. Definitely recommend trying them out for an authentic Asian breakfast experience! read more

Pro tip: Make sure you have cash on hand, because the credit card minimum is $25....I learned the hard way! I popped in on a Sunday morning around 10 AM and the line was already very long. If you want a table (only around 4-5 tables) to sit at, I recommend coming as early as possible for your breakfast fix. They open at 7 AM. The Chinese donut/youtiao was oily, too well-fried, and very hot. I wish it had a fluffier, airier texture inside. It was too dry to eat by itself so I always recommend getting soy milk on the side. Yi Mei offers hot and cold soy milk. All the cold drinks can be picked up directly from the refrigerator next to the cash register. Unfortunately, you cannot adjust the sweetness or else I would have asked for less sugar mixed in. Authentic soy milk from Taiwan does not come with any sugar and you usually add your own. Note that the salty soy milk comes with a lot of ingredients mixed in (Chinese donut, pork floss, vegetables, etc.) I also got an egg crepe/dan bing with taiwanese sausage on the side. I wished the dan bing had more flavor, but I asked for soy paste and sweet chili sauce on the side to supplement it. This dish was also very oily so feel free to dab the excess oil off with a napkin before you eat! Service was decent and the workers were very friendly. Nice place for Taiwanese breakfast. They have the typical egg omelette (蛋餅), soy milk, Chinese donut (油條), and baked sandwich (燒餅). Food was delicious and it hits the spot if you are craving this type of breakfast. Prices are average. The soy milk is $3.50 a cup and $4.25 for a large. However, we were overcharged for the baked sandwich with egg. The baked sandwich already came with egg and they charged us an extra $2 for adding an egg. Egg omelette is $6.50 each. Ambiance of the restaurant was good, until some guests came in and talked so loud the whole restaurant could hear them. This is by no fault of the restaurant though. The restroom is acceptable. Areas for improvement: Better customer service. There was no greeting when we came in, so we sat at a table. There was still no one coming, so we went to order at the counter and it felt more like a self-serve restaurant. They also used styrofoam boals for customers to use, which isn't as environmentally friendly. But we would come back because the food is so delicious. read more

The rice outside is a bit crispy and it's stuffed with egg inside. Never had something like this before so it was good to try. 4/5 Beef roll: really packed with flavor. The meat was tender and it smelled amazing. It's similar to other beef rolls, but it is a bit oily though. 5/5 Radish cake: my favorite out of everything we ordered. I liked how these radish cakes were a bit thinner. They were slightly crispy and warm. I like spice so I added a bit of their chili sauce to each bite. 4.5/5 egg roll: can't go wrong with some eggs. Pretty yummy dish that isn't overwhelmingly salty. 3/5 Zong zi (Chinese tamale): not that impressed with the zong zi. It's okay, but there isn't much filling or flavor. Overall, it was a good breakfast if you like savory foods. It was a bit heavy, but the taste was on point. Woke up CRAVING taiwanese breakfast today and wanted to have more than just a rice roll and soymilk so I ordered a few things to share at my parent's. Had the salty rice roll, both the sweet and salty purple rice rolls, egg omelet, green onion pancake, minced pork with rice, soymilk, and peanut milk. I prefer the regular rice rolls since the purples were a bit bland. The egg omelet was so delicious and comforting. It was my first time trying peanut milk and was surprised with how sweet and thick it was; it's texture resembled that of the black sesame dessert 芝麻糊. I originally wanted to try the breakfast at Si Hai/Four Seas since it's closer to me but was turned off by all the pictures of bugs that people found in their food. So glad I stuck with Yi Mei. This used to be my go to spot for taiwanese style breakfast. Over the years, it has deteriorated like most Taiwanese owned small food establishments. Parking has never been an issue here. It just spaced out oddly in the middle of the plaza. This Yimei actually has a decent size dining area, but the settings are less than other comparable restaurants. The front has a self ordering tablet, it can be a little bit confusing on add-ons and modifications. But it works, and will take visa or MC payments. The cashier at the deep end of the restaurant can also take your order. They used to have a self serve sauce bar, it no longer exists probably due to Covid19 restriction. I have decided to dine in this time. Ordered 2 different main dishes. Both were served in the same plate. I get it, Yimei tries to save the earth or sea turtles by reducing waste. While that's admirable, it is not proper and appears to be frugal. The overall presentation of the food was terrible. The soy milk was fresh, the milk tea was on the sweet side, the chive pan cake was slightly too dark but came out ok, and the purple rice Fan tuan was a bit on the smaller side compared to Yimei in Chino Hills. The bathroom was not that clean. If you have worked in the pinnacle of food industry, you know this is unacceptable. Again, it's a common issue among all Taiwanese establishment. Can't say I was satisfied overall. Does Yimei serve decent food? YES. Does Yimei go above and beyond your expectations? NO. IMO, it seems that their motto is, order your food and get out. Will I return again? Yes, but not for a while, with the increasing price tags on the menu, and low standard, I'd eat elsewhere. Maybe when the craving demands, I will return. read more

The simple version is fine, but to me it's a tad too heavy on the carbs. Thankfully the fantuan can be customized (and I love customization). My order is not traditional and I don't think you will ever see people ordering this, but trust me it is sooo delicious My go-to order: fantuan with purple rice, extra pickles, add two eggs, beef and pork. There are not a lot of options in Irvine for chinese breakfast foods so on a recent trip up to visit a friend we decided to have breakfast for lunch. Since we went into Yi Mei around 1pm the place was pretty empty. We ended up ordering two different kinds of rice rolls, the pork and beef sandwich, a beef roll and a couple of other things. Overall my favorite were the sandwiches with the rice rolls coming in second. I think what really sucked though was when i went back to my car i noticed that someone hit my bumper and mad a huge scratch and took off some paint. Wow, delicious authentic Taiwanese food. You order at the front counter and they give you a number to take with you as you seat yourself. They will bring the food out to the table when it's ready. They also sell some baked goods (sun cake, etc) and have a fridge full of soy milk, almond milk, peanut milk drinks + frozen dumplings,fish cakes, buns that you can buy. I had been turned on to this location by Fan and Mandi (hi, guys!) from a rice roll they gifted me one day at an event. I had been craving it again ever since I had it from them, and saw that there was a place that sold them by me. This place is pretty small, but has all the bread and traditional Chinese food options.
