We wanted a sweet treat after lunch and saw that Yerevan was a quick walk away! We got a slice of honey cake which was soft and not too sweet. Also got the rose matcha latte, which tbh was pretty disappointing. The rose flavor was strong, but the matcha essence was not- way too milky (it was aesthetic though with the petals haha). The coffee shop itself is really cozy- would be a nice spot to work at. Service was fast and friendly. 7.5/10 would recommend for dessert, but I'll have to try another drink next time.
Nice Armenian cafe in the heart of Adams Morgan. I always love to go to different foreign food spots and coffee shops whenever I can and this is my first time going to an Armenian cafe. I had the Armenian coffee, soujuk, and brown sugar latte with clove. Everything was great! I just wish the soujuk was a little bigger. The decor is cute as well, plus there is a cute tiny shop inside that sells a few imported beers and wines and foods and souvenirs. Speaking of decor, I think the bathroom could use a little more! All in all, I found this to be a great little spot and would definitely consider coming back:)
A friend and I stopped by Yerevan on Sunday morning, and I'm so glad we did. I adored it. Yerevan is an Armenian cafe but calling it just a cafe seems limiting! Yes, it opens daily at 10 am for breakfast, pastries, and coffee. They're also open for lunch and dinner (they close at 8/9 pm depending on the day). And they offer happy hour from 3-6 pm Monday through Friday. And they host events celebrating Armenian culture: monthly free wine tastings, book signings, art exhibitions, and other events. It's a special place, and Adams Morgan residents are so lucky to have it. But back to our experience yesterday. We ordered a couple of coffees (both were great) and shared a couple of dishes from their menu. Lahmajun is a dough rolled thin and topped with minced beef. Yerevan's was served with a lemon wedge and Armenian pepper paste, and together with the lemon and pepper paste, it was absolutely delicious. The dough was so thin and the meat topping well seasoned. It's a dish I love, and Yerevan's version was absolutely no exception. We also ordered a Zhingyalov Hats (a flatbread stuffed with herbs and greens and served with a side of labneh). I've only had Zhingyalov Hats one other time and loved it then. I loved Yerevan's, too. It's so simple and yet so incredibly flavorful. A great vegetarian dish. Their menu offers so much more than these dishes (although I heartily recommend these two classics): soujuk pie, dolma, a basturma wrap, lentil kufte, and several sweet pastries. Based on the Lahmajun and the Zhingyalov Hats, I would eat anything else on their menu (and plan to come back and try to). In addition to the great food and very good coffees, the service was outstanding, too - very friendly and helpful. The cafe is comfortable and casual, but very charming - with lots of Armenian touches (and art) throughout. Yerevan is exactly the kind of place I love. Great food - including dishes that aren't very easy to find in the area - clearly made with love. Excellent service. Yerevan is wonderful - a great place to enjoy a meal or a snack or a coffee or a glass of Armenian wine. A great place to enjoy with family or friends. A great place to enjoy solo - come with a book or your work. I just adored it. I look forward to returning.
Vibe: very cute shop with seating inside Service: very friendly! A bit slow to order, but quick to bring food out. Value: moderate for the area Honey cake: deliciously dense. Loved the graham crackers on top
I was excited to try Armenian food here at Yerevan. I got a cup of the red lentil and apricot soup which had some sweetness from the apricots, some tartness from tomatoes and was delicious. I also got Zhingyalov Hats, a flatbread stuffed with finely diced herbs and greens. It's a traditional dish of Armenian cuisine from Artsakh. I have made it at home before so it was fun to try it at a restaurant. The dough reminded me of Yemenite malawach I grew up eating or an Indian paratha. I ordered it vegan so it came with hamim, a pepper paste spread (instead of labneh). I was actually interested in trying the pepper paste spread too so it was fun it came with it but I think the dish would go better with Labneh. I really enjoyed the decorations here, especially a wall decorated with broken pieces of pottery. Ordering was at the counter here and a few tables had people working on their computers. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!
Washington D.C. is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit and I was lucky enough to visit in mid-September. The weather was perfect, but I needed my coffee fix in order to properly go sightseeing. My coffee shop stop in D.C. is Yerevan. Their Armenian coffee is bold, but doesn't have the bitter aftertaste that usually keeps me away from Armenian style espressos. The other highlight for me was their take on the trendy Dubai chocolate. Their Dubai chocolate latte stood out to me because of they managed to achieve a sweetness level that doesn't drown out every other flavor. You can still taste the coffee and the sweetness complements the drink instead of overpowering it. Overall it's a great little cafe that is worth trying out if you are in the area.
This feels unfortunate to write because I've wanted to try this place for the longest time! This matcha just tasted like milk. I ordered it with rose syrup and soy mylk but all I tasted was the soy milk. I should have looked it up then I wouldn't have ordered the matcha. I do want to emphasize that I still want to come back to give their coffee and food a shot. It's a very cute place and the barista was so welcoming! I also want to note we came during a weekend with so many events going on in AdMo and I only saw one barista, they were so efficient and sweet. So I'll be back to try more but never for the matcha!
The Brown Sugar Clove Latte is a great drink to start your day. I would come here again with a friend or business colleague.
One of my favorite coffee shops in DC!! Tucked away in the outskirts of Adams Morgan, Yerevan may not look like much from the outside, but this hidden gem is an absolute delight. The staff is all super friendly, and they have the most incredible selection of pastries, coffee, and tea. I have probably tried half of their pastry case, and I continue to be impressed with each and every item. I absolutely adore their homestyle baklava -- the phyllo dough is perfectly crispy and soaks up the honey and nut mixture beautifully, and the dessert is simultaneously decadent and not overly sweet. The honey nugget is a great little sweet bite, and is the perfect gluten-free treat or small pick-me-up, and the honey cake is absolutely incredible. It's a smidge overly sweet (as the main flavor is, as the name implies, honey), but it still manages to be amazing. Beyond their lovely sweets, their drinks are incredible. They have one of my favorite matcha lattes in DC, as well as a matcha rose latte that is perfect when you're looking for a hint of spring. Their coffee is also wonderful, with a great nutty aroma and deep, robust flavor. It's also served in the cutest little Armenian mugs, which really adds to the overall experience. The space is shockingly large, with 4-5 larger tables and a couple 2-person tables, all beautifully arranged with cute little flower pots and throw pillows. They even have a small stack of books and board games if you get bored of yapping and need something else to keep you entertained. It's the perfect, cozy little spot to either read, work, or catch up with friends.
This is a delightful cafe tucked in the Adams Morgan area. I love that it champions the regional specificity of being an Armenian cafe. It allows for its pastry case and drinks to have a unique profile that evokes flavors we wouldn't normally get out of a standard cafe. It's so dazzling to see the variety of sweets they have, and there are other things to purchase sprinkled throughout the cafe to peruse. There was ample seating, but the cafe itself is very intimate. Some signage at the cafe points that they host some community tasting workshops and that sounds like so much fun! My barista was quick to make my drink and very friendly and explanatory of the menu. I would stick to the drinks that are unique to the restaurant and coffees because it's just what they are best at making. Had a matcha latte order, and the color was closer to that of milk then matcha, but I think I ordered the wrong item to make a fair assessment. Deserves a revisit on my part, hehe!
Cute cafe with a wide selection of food and drinks! Check out the fridges that have other beverages, cured meats, dairy products etc. We picked up the Ayran yogurt drink which was a refreshing tangy and salty yogurt drink! The rose latte was good and not too sweet :)
It was my first time going to an Armenian place, and I was pleasantly surprised. The honey cake was to die for it's layered and sweet, but not in an overly intimidating way. I also like the soujuk pie. I would say the lahmajun was too small of a portion for me. Generally, their portion sizes tend to be on the smaller side. They also sell various items in the café, and I think those might be interesting to look at.
Delicious Armenian food! Tried wine, main course and dessert. Highly recommend! Small, cute space.

Oh well, Wonderful place we discovered today. It was decorated with lovely Armenian decorations and shelves with authentic food items for sale. I was surprised by how excellent the food was in this cozy Cafe. We tried the apricot soup was just fantastic, so good!!! And the best Napoleon cake I ever tried!!! My husband tried Mikado cake; he is not a big fan of desserts, but he loved Mikado and even bought Mikado, baklava, and honey cake to go. And Armenian coffee was stunning. This impressive place made my day today, and we will be back for outstanding food, fantastic desserts and coffee. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone!!!!!!! read more
Overall: Excellent patisserie/coffee&tea shop with great service and relaxed atmosphere. Tastiness: We tried the mountain tea - herbal and aromatic, Armenian coffee - strong and silky, and honey cake - spongy morsels of subtle sweetness and creaminess. Will 100% return to try some of their other pastries and coffee selection. Service: My husband and I stumbled upon this place on a Wednesday afternoon and the shop had pretty much every table taken. I believe it was the owner/shop manager who saw us walk through the door and got up and moved somewhere in the back with his laptop. Great service from the get-go. Also, the young person who rang our order and made our coffee and tea was super nice and friendly. Ambiance: Cute coffee shop with a beautiful Armenian art and minimalistic decor. A gem in the heart of Adams Morgan! Cleanliness: Very clean coffee shop! Price: Fair for NW DC. read more

Visited this cute Armenian cafe a few days after they opened. This definitely skews Russian influence (Armenia proper) vs. the Armenian diaspora cuisine that trends more Middle Eastern. I decided to order most of what they offer to have a good sampling which I shared with a friend. We started with several savory options which were heated up for us and brought to our table on beautiful and ornate pottery plates: - Zhingyalov Hats - this was our favorite item here. I've had Armenian food before but have never heard of this or had it. Sort of like lavash pockets filled with delicious finely diced herbs and greens (parsley, spinach, onions, etc). Tasted so bright and fresh and the bread was so perfect that we had to get another one which we quickly devoured. - Lahmajun - traditional Armenian flatbread-like dish. Served with small lemon wedges to squeeze on top. This version meets the mark. There are two varieties in the freezer if you want to walk out with a stack of them. They're cooked so you just need to reheat/microwave. - Khachapuri - yummy cheese-filled pastry. Dough was very nice. Similar to cheese boereg. Cheese could use a bit more character. - Mini Kufta - never really been a fan of this bulgur-wrapped dish that is common at Lebanese restaurants. This was sort of dry to me. I'd skip it next time. - Olivie Salad - similar to potato salad with finely diced potatoes, hard boiled eggs, and small peas. Was a fine accompaniment to our other items. They were out of the Sarma unfortunately. I got the Tan (yogurt drink) which was fine. Was served in a small glass and with ice which was not ideal. Non-carbonated version thankfully. For dessert, I took the following items to go: - Baklava - there were a few versions to pick from. Go with the "homemade" diamond-shaped ones in my photo. Nailed it. Delicious. - Gata - essentially a peasant cake. Sweet and simple. - Cigarette & circular baklava-like dessert - both pretty dry and just ok. Skip the circular one. - Mikado - multi-layered chocolate pastry. Sort of like a compressed Napoleon that is very chocolatey. - Honey cake - spongier/fluffier and more honey taste than Sharbat's version which is much more Napoleon-like (dry pastry layers with cream in between). The staff could not have been friendlier. I saw one take over a complimentary peach nectar drink (in a tiny solo cup with a small bendy straw) to a little girl eating with her parents. Tons of packaged items to leave with like fruit preserves, pickled veggies, candies and a packed fridge and freezer with Armenian string cheese, cured meats, Lahmajun, Manti (says Russian-style), and more. They just opened, so I'll want to visit them again after they get a few weeks under their belt. I think they should consider narrowing down to some of the best options and focusing on those, particularly with the sweet pastries. Maybe offer two varieties of Lahmajun (one spicier) and occasionally change up the cheese filling in the Khachapuri to keep things interesting. Also consider putting the savory items on display or including pictures on the menu for the unfamiliar diner. Approximately 6 tables inside and one small two-seater outside. Go check them out. read more

Friendly staff, great coffee and sweets, and a solid selection of Armenian products (both frozen/refrigerated and boxed/canned goods). Simple but nice interior, with some low-volume Armenian music to set the mood. You can tell this place was a labor of love. As an Armenian, I can say that the Armenian coffee here is among the best I've had. For those who are new to Armenian culture/cuisine try the lahmajun - it's like a flatbread/pizza hybrid and it's a crowd pleaser. Moving from LA to DC, it was a bit of a culture shock to arrive somewhere with barely any Armenian presence, so I'm happy that this place exists. They're doing a great job of catering to the surrounding community with their customer service and family-owned vibe. read more
Great cafe tucked away in Admo! The staff was extremely kind and answered all the questions we had about the food. It's a great place for small bites and coffee. They also have some games to play, but it could also be a great place to work at. read more
Yerevan Market & Cafe is fantastic and a wonderful addition to the Adam Morgan Neighborhood. Parents- this place is totally kid friendly!!! The only thing is you will have to leave your stroller outside or carry it down two steps. They have a little children's corner which is so nice. There are a few toys and puzzles, coloring sheets, a coloring wall, and a kid sized table and chairs. Also, there is a baby changing table inside the (exceptionally clean) bathroom! This would be a lovely place to come for coffee with your child. The baked goods are delicious. We tried the baklava for $3 and the honey cake for $6.50. The baklava was good but the honey cake was amazing. We were meant to share but I wanted to eat the whole thing myself! Just the right amount of sweetness, soft and fluffy, simply divine. Would 100% recommend. The armenian coffee is strong and the perfect pairing for the sweet treats. Also, the cherry juice for children is tart and sweet, your kid will love it! They have cute red cups and bendy straws. Overall, definitely a 5 star place, there is something for everyone here. They even have gifts for both adults and children, as well as both refrigerated and shelf stable food products to bring home. Another plus- the staff here is so friendly, especially the manager! read more

I'm so happy this place exists. There are virtually no Armenian restaurants or bakeries anywhere in DC, and the prime location in the heart of Adams Morgan is definitely a plus. We stopped by for dinner last night and came back for breakfast this morning to try their Armenian coffee. Although there are some areas where they can improve, overall we really enjoyed the delicious food, great service, and the comfortable setting. First thing to note: this is a cafe. There are no entrees on the menu--there are appetisers and desserts. They also sell some pre-packaged Armenian and Eastern European food. They are currently working on getting their liquor license, so don't come expecting alcohol. But they have a good range of non-alcoholic drinks. That Armenian coffee is strong! And really good. Also try the Armenian 'mountain' herbal tea (with thyme). They also have a savoury yogurt-type drink, mineral water, and juices. I wasn't very impressed with the pomegranate juice but I'm sure they have other better options. The food is good--not amazing (the dough of most of pastries is a bit dry), but I did really love the home-style baklava, the dolma, and the Russian salad 'vinegrette'. But what I loved the most was the atmosphere--a simple but tastefully appointed interior, and the great service. This is the type of place where I could easily spend hours chatting with a friend or stop by for a morning coffee and pastry. Overall, this place is unique and is definitely worth checking out. I'm sure I'll be back many times. read more

There sarma dolma is the next thing I will try looked amazing. Definitely recommend this place must try in DC. read more

A hidden location. Took a moment to find. It's across from the library and there's no immediate parking. Wasn't really what I expected/ it's a very tiny spot with several foldable wooden chairs and tables. I would say 95% of the patrons were on laptops. Not really ideal if you're wanting to eat because there was no place to sit and they had to take out another table and chairs directly behind the cash register to accommodate. I can't say I saw anyone eating or drinking anything and they were engrossed in their laptops and in no rush to leave. Some even took up entire tables using bags and purses on the empty chairs. Anyhow, we were starving and they were out of lahmajun. I got the kofta and he got the basterna sandwich. The plates came out and I honestly thought they were some complimentary aappetizers and then I realized they were the food. My meatballs were tiny. About the size of the frozen meatballs you find in the grocery store. They were cold so that threw me off but I thought they tasted decent. I've had Arabic and Persian and every other kind of kofta and my first experience having it cold. They came on a thin 3x3 sheet of flat bread. And there were 2 total. There wasn't anything else on the plate. The sandwich was also tiny. It was a couple sprigs of rocket lettuce and one slice of meat with some sort of cheese on the bottom and a tiny piece of tomato. Sadly we were both disappointed because he's Armenian and wanting some of his homeland food. It wasn't that it tasted bad but we honestly couldn't understand the portions. They are clearly not made to fill you up but as a finger food appetizer sort. Would I go back? I probably wouldn't. I was really disappointed. I can say the staff was friendly and it was nice hearing people speak Armenian from different backgrounds. The veggie plate took a long time to prepare. Not sure why but we were long finished and afraid of missing our ride. We got a jar of the garlic stems because they were that good. There's a wrapped greens dish called zhingyalov hats v ve that I really enjoyed. Not sure what exactly is in it because the description was vague but I liked it a lot as did he. I read they were wild greens but I would have liked to know some of the ingredients. Sorry was too hungry to take a photo because it came long after we finished and as were got into our transportation. They respond quickly on Instagram. Again, friendly staff but the experience was not at all what either of us expected. His mother didn't eat anything off her plate we brought and that's how I ended up trying the green wrap dish. They do have a nice little selection of Armenian spirits. Their gift shop is a great idea but it looked more like display because the space is so tiny. The market itself was also tiny but j appreciate them making the traditional foods available. I hope they transition into something more focused on food and accommodating diners and not being an internet cafe or a hangout for people to use their space for hours on end. I hope they have success. The cashier was a Russian Armenian and my date is Iranian Armenian so the convo was nice to hear. read more

This Armenian cafe and market is an awesome addition to the neighborhood! The selection isn't huge but very unique, the cafe has plenty of seats to work/study and the staff is super friendly/helpful in making a selection! The market has beautiful Armenian art and souvenirs, foods (salads, frozen goods, buckwheat), teas, juices and more. The bakery has coffee, baklava (different varieties), Napoleon cake (pastry with cream - loved it) and other baked goods! read more

Yerevan is my new favorite place to go for coffee and a sweet treat. It is a cheerful place with many imported food products and gift items from Armenia. The people who work there are lovely and make you feel welcome. So far I've only had a cappuccino and pastry, both were excellent. The menu also includes savory items. Let's show support for Yerevan, a small, local business! read more
