I absolutely looove Yens Cafe! In particular, I go there often to get one of their fresh juices, my favorite is the strawberry and orange. The place is quite small, but absolutely a gem especially for lunchtime deals. Two of my favorite dishes here are the basil fried chicken and the shrimp/chicken mixed lo mein. read more

Wait staff and chefs were very friendly- treated us like family. A lot of options on their menu with Chinese favorites and authentic Taiwanese dishes. Also the food we ordered was delicious! Got the Taiwanese fried chicken and meatballs in clay pot- very well prepared food! I will definitely eat here again and maybe many more times! Their menu of teas are unique and fun to try as well. read more

Found this place on yelp after wondering if there's a place where you can get Chinese food that isn't overloaded with MSG and is decently healthy. They NEVER cook with MSG, and the first time I tried it out months ago I was incredibly impressed with the service in restaurant. My family wanted to get take-out for Christmas, and the place we usually frequent for special occasions was closed. We ordered over $60 worth of food, and it was ready in 15 minutes! Also, as other yelpers have said, they don't make their General Tso's gristly pieces of chicken smothered in batter and drowned with sauce. Christmas lunch was a complete success and everyone was very pleased. Prices are very reasonable, and the staff is very friendly if you do decide to dine-in (although there isn't a lot of seating in the restaurant). I can easily say that this is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant I've ever been to in my entire LIFE (ha.), and I'm sure is probably the best in Northern Virginia read more

I'm still upset and shaking from tonight's terrible experience! I took my boys to dine in and we were only customers there at that time but their excuse was due to a lot of to-go orders. It took them 40 min to bring out the appetizer then we had to wait 20 min more to get our food. I asked the manager if he can check on our food because our little guy was super hungry and complaining. Instead of being apologetic for waiting too long, he was being rude and told me the food is being made now. I complained about his rudeness and unprofessional behavior then he yelled at me I'm the one who's being rude then told me not to come back if I don't like it there. Then he topped it with pushing my back and told me to get out as I was getting out and complaining of my experience. WTF! Who does this? I will make sure to spread my experience there and definitely won't be going back to Yen's Cafe any more!! read more

We have been loyal customers of this restaurant sinc e moving to the area, up until tonight when trying to place our usual order. Although the food is respectable, the service is terrible. Clearly from reading other reviews, this establishment has a pattern of not really caring about its patrons. Upon making a simple request to to the manager to modify our order due to a food allergy, we were told that it wasn't possible to substitute, only to remove the ingredient. After asking if the price of the dish would be less (since we were asking for pork instead of shrimp, which is cheaper), the manager said "Sir, we are very busy right now and I don't have time for this." I couldn't believe that the manager of a restaurant would talk to a customer like that! It's a shame that a restaurant would be willing to lose a loyal customer over something like this. There are plenty of other restaurants that treat its patrons right and actually care about their customers. This business clearly values the bottom line more than making its customers happy. From now on, we'll make the trip to Sterling for food that is just as good, but from a business that cares about its customers. read more

This is definitely me and my girls new spot!!! We came during the lunch special and what a deal we got. Just for 7.5-8$ we both got an entree of those given brought w soup of choice, rice, salad, and a roll. It's was all so delicious! We got a mango and passion fruit tea which my girl thought was the best she's ever had. We also got the shrimp leek and chicken dumplings which was amazing and I was sad I couldn't eat all of it. The place is very small but we came during dead hours so we easily got a table, around 3ish. The service was always attentive either low on tea or to get something out the way. All very talkative/friendly and answered all our questions. At the end you get some bread custard puff which was a perfect way to end it! Forgot my wallet and they went out of their way to call me back to go get it and when we arrived she said " I said come back soon but not this soon" haha glad I found this place read more

ive ordered from yens twice now - prices are very good for the amount and quality of food. both times have been carry out and staff was very friendly on the phone and in the restaurant. highly recommend this restaurant for great asian food! read more

I tried Yen's Cafe after reading the three five star reviews on Yelp! I ordered the Sesame Chicken and it was great! Huge pieces of chicken lightly breaded (unlike other chinese restaurants where it's all breading, no meat). The lunch special came with salad, egg roll, rice, and choice of soup. I had the steamed rice, it was perfectly cooked. The salad had a special dressing which I liked - sort of a tangy sesame type dressing. The egg roll was really good, though I picked out the mushrooms in it! The won ton soup was Taiwanese style, not sure what that means, but it had a different flavor than I'm used to. It was a lot of food for a great price! I did take out and the woman who took my order and then also gave me my order was very nice! I've already recommended it to friends and coworkers and will definitely be going back! I noticed they have a whole list of fruit juices, but I didn't try one this time. It was a very small restaurant. Possibly about 10 booths if I remember correctly. One of the questions below asks if it is good for groups, I don't want to put no, but if I remember correctly there were no tables that could sit more than maybe 5 people. read more

I went to lunch here and it was a lovely, delicious experience. The atmosphere is very pleasant and cozy, and the service is incredible - extremely attentive, subtle, and thoughtful. The food is wonderful and inexpensive...for lunch you can get soup, meat and vegetables, salad, rice, and egg roll for less than $9. The tea is also amazing and the tea sets are beautiful. I ended up staying longer just to enjoy the tea and environment. They finish off the meal with a little donut dessert and fortune cookies. Wonderful place, can't wait to go back read more

We came to this place by chance and I was pleasantly surprised because it's in a strange office location. We ordered the garlic fried chicken which was cooked with basil-- Amazing! Boneless chicken with so much flavor I could eat it everyday. We also ordered the Szechuan crispy beef which was equally as delicious and the yen's special rice which was also good. Looking forward to my next time coming here!! read more

We cannot get enough of Yen's Cafe! The food is delicious and the service is prompt and friendly. They have the standard American dishes, but also have a myriad of more authentic Chinese cuisine as well. The staff are helpful in assisting with selection if you want suggestions. We love the dried chili chicken (add mushrooms- makes it even better!), many of the fish dishes, the Beijing style shredded pork, and the fried chicken. The soups are excellent! The dumplings are great as well. We have never had a bad dish and feel lucky to have such a gem close by. As others have stated, the seating is limited, but we have never had to wait a super long time for a table. read more

This is it! True authentic Taiwanese food in northern Virginia. This is our first visit. We ordered Taiwanese cabbage with bacon, Taiwanese style fried chicken, Chunk Pork with bamboo string, and fish filet with spicy soy-bean sauce. These dishes were recommended by the owner and were all very good and good portion. What's more, these dishes were not greasy at all! The price is on the high side for the Chinese food but worth every penny. Staff are very friendly. This place is very small but well furnished and very clean. If you want good and healthy Chinese food I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back to explore more dishes!! read more

First time here and had an awesome dinner ! They are quick as well as fresh. Everything is beautifully plated. The tea set was beautiful as well ! The rose tea was delicious and the orange chicken was all white meat( and you can actually tell). They were super nice and attentive ! Will definitely come again ! read more

We've been looking for a truly good Chinese restaurant in northern Virginia since we moved from Atlanta seven years ago, and finally found it because of the Yelp reviews. The service was great, the food was excellent, and the servings with the lunch specials were huge. We'll be back soon! read more

The food is great and very fresh. They have a wide menu selection for your average American style Chinese dishes, but they also have more traditional Chinese/Taiwanese dishes. There is plenty of parking, but not much for seating in the restaurant. I've gotten there for an early dinner around 5-6pm and was able to get a table, but the resaurant filled up shortly after. I'd give it another star if they had more room. Overall the food is great for dine-in or carry-out. If you are looking for the restaurant, it is behind the Giant grocery store, near the Red Robin. The restaurant is next door to the Subway. read more

Hands down, best Chinese food. Always quick take out, and always delicious. Love the kung pao chicken and low mein! Large portions give plenty for leftovers read more

Thank you for the wonderful food and fabulous service. My son and his friends definitely enjoyed his birthday dinner.

Egg and tomato and tofu soup was OK. The pipa tofu was quite good though, would order it again for sure.

I walked into the restaurant and the people were very friendly. However it was a little overwhelming to see about seven staff milling around in a restaurant with only about nine tables. I ordered the sesame beef which you should steer clear of if you have TMJ. It had good flavor however I was disappointed that the server didn't understand that I requested spicy. When the server asked how I like my meal I explained that I had ordered spicy but got a mild flavored dish. The dish was $17.97 which is an outrageous price. I did not look at the price prior. The presentation of the food was very nice. The dish included a colorful fresh flower. The custard filled donut at the end was good as well. read more

WOW, low expectations for a "Chinese" restaurant in Ashburn of all places, one of the best meals to date in the DC area. All the other reviews are spot on. Incredibly friendly to match the great food! read more

It's been a long time since we've had Chinese this good! All of the dishes we've eatten here have been flavorful and extremely high quality. Service is fantastic. Our favorite is the Mongolian Beef - it's got a smoked taste to it which brings the dish to a completely different level. The juices are fantastic, too! read more

Continues to be a favorite. Crispy beef and salt and pepper fish are excellent. Even our grandkids (ages 2&4) loved it until they found out the salt and pepper fish was fish... I am not a tea drinker, but love the rose tea with honey powder. read more

One of the best Chinese places in Virginia. High quality food, always nice servers. I used to go here once a week when I lived in Ashburn.

The very best Chinese food around bar none. I have not found a place which exceeds Yens and I've tried hundreds. The lunch special is a great value and it always tastes good. If you are in the Ashburn VA area try this place. Limited seating is the only downside. read more

This restaurant is a good as it gets, every time my family goes, we all get something totally different, and we all eat off of each other's plates, because it is very hard to find something not incredible here. read more

Yen's rocks. Around the corner from my house, they are super-nice people, with excellent food. Try 'em.

Awesome authentic Chinese meal. Unexpected in Ashburn va. Great salt pepper pork chop. Fish filet with tofu spicy sauce is yummy too. Get the water cress! read more

Randomly came here for the second time. Excellent food. There are very few seats so either call ahead or be prepared to wait. Prompt service and plenty of selection. On both occasions, we enjoyed the food-authentic and savory - and the portions are large. They also have an on the house dessert bun. Will return! read more

I think this might be the best Chinese food I have ever had from a restaurant. Tiny place, but packed with flavor and friendliness. I really, really like their Yens special rice. Friendly, great quality. I have been going here for a few years now, and they are consistently great. read more

It is an OK Chinese restaurant. I don't think it's authentic except for a couple of dishes. We have been there once a year ago and never wanted to give it a second try. Four and half stars is definitely too high for this restaurant. I feel so bad there is no authentic Chinese restaurant near this area. read more

Yen's Cafe is a great place for authentic Chinese food! If you like the more "Americanized" Chinese dishes, they have those, too. And those are done well also. Their dishes are flavorful and savory without being too salty. I love how their dishes aren't sugary like many mainstream restaurants. Even their salads and soups which tend to be bland and ordinary in most Chinese places are fresh and unique. Their meat dishes are always tender. And as others have mentioned they have an awesome juice bar and tea selection. We have tried many of their specialty juice blends, smoothies and iced teas and they were always refreshing and flavorful. Anything you try here, you won't be disappointed! Staff is also friendly and accommodating. When our kids were little, they were especially generous with them. They would bring lollipops or even popsicles in the Summer at the end of the meal for free! I haven't eaten in the restaurant in a while (we usually get takeout), but they would also bring out fresh hot doughnuts (with a yummy lemon filling) for free at the end of the meal. They love their customers here. :) read more

Freshly prepared food. Wonton Soup was awesome and tasty... and not from a big pot... you could tell it was made fresh. Had Bourbon Chicken and General's Chicken... loved them both. Highly recommended! read more

This is a wonderful restaurant. Decided to try this out for mother's day and the food and service was truly excellent, and my family agrees. The food was very fresh and they give you plenty of it. I definitely recommend the mango-passionfruit tea, which was amazing. Fast service, didn't have to ask for much, they were great in catering to our needs. It was a wonderful experience and even the plate presentation of the food was above par. I give Yen's Cafe 4 1/2 stars. I love great dining and this is one of those places I would recommend for anyone else who loves great dining. A++ Yen's Cafe read more

I ordered delivery and the gentleman who took my order was very nice as well as the lady who delivered my food. The food is very tasty. I ordered chicken with black bean sauce which was great. Not too salty and the portion was huge. My friend ordered the General Tso's chicken and unlike other places, the chicken was lightly breaded. Highly satisfied and I will order from them again. read more

I'm no stranger to Taiwanese food but some dishes here are better than what I had back in Asia. It's very common that Chinese restaurants here compromise authenticity and change food flavor to accommodate american taste. I'm glad they still keep a few dishes that are authentic, and awesome. If you come here my friend, try not to order orange chicken or General Tsao or other American food. Ask the waiters for recommendation for authentic Taiwanese dishes. read more
