Taiwanese chicken was good, but *hint* there's a location that sells Taiwanese chicken for half the cost @ 8 bucks that includes rice and ground pork. We happened upon this place when the Vietnamese grill down the street was closed and we were hungry. What a wonderful surprise! It is a small restaurant but I think that's what makes it so good; the food is fresh and the quality is exceptional. We've tried many things on the menu but our favorites are the Three Cup Chicken and the Moo-Shu Pork. The prices are a little higher but worth every penny. But the space is small, usually appears to be short handed, and wait can be very long, and I'm not talking about just getting seated, rather the wait AFTER you had put the order in IF you are lucky enough to catch the servers as they swoosh by, bless their hearts... During rush hours the place is inundated with take-out orders and you will have to compete with those F&$&$. Ordered online using the Beyond Menu app. We had a pleasurable experience once before which made me want to make this my local Chinese delivery. I am new to the Ashburn area. Waited about 1 hour and 15 mins before my first call in. The lady on the phone tells me the driver will be there in 10-15 mins. I asked her to call the driver to double check, which I assume she did. We waited another 30 mins and still didn't get our food. I called back the lady blamed me saying that we lived 4 miles away. If you want authentic Chinese/Taiwanese food in Nova this is a great place to go. Waitresses and Mgr are all very friendly with courteous, quick service. Very clean restaurant as well which is a big plus. Ordered the spicy fish fillet, dry bean curd with beef, and Genl Tso's for the kids. All very good. Also had the Hot & Sour soup which was one of the best I've had. Can't wait to go back with friends and family to try the other authentic dishes! CRISPY SESAME BEEF FOR THE WIN. Okay, I'm extra focused but honestly their crispy sesame beef is a HUGE winner for me. Crispy (obviously), with the right balance of sweet and spicy. The beef inside is tender, making the whole thing basically beef fries. Beef. Fries. On hot steamed rice. Um, winning much? Onto the other plates. Nothing was disappointing. Vegetable dish? On point. Crispy pan-fried noodles with beef? Perfection. Taiwanese chicken? Insanely delicious. To top it off, the restaurant is very clean and has plenty of seats available. Service is quick and attentive, and even personal too. Our friends and us has been frequenting this restaurant a couple of time and it's nice that they remember who we are! Ask for their special menu. They have some interesting options, but I would stay away from the pork belly. When I first say it, I was thinking more in the crispy pork belly region, unfortunately the dish is just globs of fat. Besides that, all of the other dishes were quite tasty. I got the crispy sesame beef and it was very flavorful. Also, the portions are huge so you definitely wont go hungry. Decor and real estate is minimal, but the good food makes up for it. After seeing such high reviews and sifting through the occasional complainers and self-VIPs, I knew we definitely had to try this place, especially with 180+ yelp reviews and 4.5 stars. Went here on New Years Day and my wife and I shared the General Chicken and Kung Pao Shrimp - both were just incredible food dishes. Had to be the best Chinese food I've ever had. We also started with cups of hot and sour and wanton soups, both were amazing. Can't wait to go back - reservations appear to be a good idea for groups of 4+. They are closed on Monday's apparently. Very good Taiwanese food, running the gamut from fare such as orange chicken to more "exotic" dishes such as Taiwanese beef with Chinese spinach. At Yens I prefer the more authentic (i.e., not so Americanized) dishes, which have a more interesting flavor. And the soups are outstanding, with what might be the best hot and sour soup I've ever had. Likewise the dumplings are excellent, among the best I've had, and the selection of tea is amazing. I recommend going in off hours (i.e., not lunchtime), because it can get quite crowded at times, with a couple of the tables (there are only about 9) being good, but other tables are just, well, not ideally located. Had to update my review since we never stopped ordering from them (hey, the food is just that good). Things to order: Taiwanese Fried Chicken, Crispy Sesame Chicken, Taiwan Style Dumplings. Always SO good. Delivery hasn't been an issue again so, hey, everyone makes mistakes, right? The only reason they don't get five stars is because we have to order a minimum of $50 for them to deliver to us (that's not the case for everyone so don't let that dissuade you; it depends on your address). First time coming here, came highly recommended from my friends, but I should've looked at the yelp reviews. First off, we are one of 4 occupied tables in the establishment and the owner who sat us came to take our orders before giving us a menu. We place our orders shortly after and after an hour of waiting for food, we find that they did not place our order in the kitchen. Not only did they neglect serving us, but made me feel like we weren't even acknowledged...unbelievable service considering our table made up 25% of the restaurants total customers. I was skeptical of finding good Chinese in Ashburn (let alone authentic Taiwanese) but as soon as we walked up and I saw the Taipei 101 poster out front, I had a good feeling about it. The next good sign was when a party of 3 Asians were seated right after we were and were clearly regulars who already knew exactly what they wanted to order. We went with the: 1) Pork and leek dumplings for appetizer - fresh and light 2) Taiwan style chicken with basil - AMAZING 3) Salt and pepper shrimp - very good 4) Sizzling beef - pretty good As with most Chinese places, do yourself a favor and avoid the Americanized dishes. The service was good, food came out quickly, and the chef herself was very chatty and welcoming. She asked if I speak Chinese (a little) but thankfully switched to English for my sake. The space isn't huge (maybe 10 tables at most) but evidently they have a back room you can call ahead to request for larger parties. Prices are a little bit higher than what I expect based on DC suburbs and Philly Chinatown but certainly on par with what you'd pay at standard Leesburg area restaurants. Next time maybe I'll try to order off menu and ask for stinky tofu, ha! I would also love to see some clay pot entrees offered, especially in the colder months. read more

First time at Yen's - closest Chinese restaurant to my house. Yen's doesn't look like much from the outside, just a 'suite' in a large building of restaurants and offices. Once inside, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff and shown to our table. There's about 8 or 9 tables at Yen's. It's a cozy little place! Drinks orders were taken promptly and delivered to the table within a minute or two. Our food order was taken after drinks were on the table. The person serving us was great - friendly, polite and chatty with the kids too. We ordered Crab Rangoon, Chicken and cashew nuts, Sweet and Sour Shrimp and Special Lo Mein with Chicken, Beef and a shrimp. Two bowls of white rice came with the food too. Food was delicious. Tasty, well seasoned and hot. Plenty of it too. Service was great - very friendly and efficient. We'll definitely dine here again. read more

As it was a new type of cuisine for me, I was given several recommendations and they were all delicious. 3 cup chicken and the eggplant were on point. Yen's has been a well hidden secret for years but it looks like the word is spreading. I worked in the area and would visit for lunch. The lunch menu includes the obligatory combination meals with an entree, vegetable, rice and soup but don't be fooled by the American naming, the combos are packed with flavor and fresh! My last visit was for dinner. The restaurant is tiny so I was greeted and seated before the inner door closed. The restaurant was empty at 6p BUT a steady stream of take away customers walked in while I was eating. As I left, 4 of the 6 tables were occupied. As I looked thru the menu, a glass of ice water appeared. Be aware that Yen's offers a plethora of teas and as a result, tea isn't included. I settled on a plate of roast pork and Ma-Po tofu with ground pork. The dishes arrived quickly, the tofu coming straight from the wok. The flavors were excellent - ordered medium hot, it was spicy but still tasty. The sauce was excellent over rice to provide a nice treat for the end of the meal. The tofu was silky and there was no shortage of ground pork. The roast pork was a bit of a letdown. The meat was cooked well but the notorious red BBQ sauce was thin and it dyed the meat completely. While it had some charring, the consistency of the BBQ sauce likely kept it charring down. Having ordered 2 dishes, I anticipated leftovers. Rarely are leftovers as good as the fresh meal - this was an exception. Even after reheating, both the tofu and the roast pork were still excellent. It's worth the 45 minute drive, not just for the food but for the service. read more

I had a very good experience at Yens. My favorite drink was the Avocado milk. It was very thick, had a sweet taste and was so delicious and filling. Their Taiwan fried chicken was really good as well. Service was fast and they provided a cute little dessert as well for us. Another great experience with our carry out order today. Still very impressed with the flavors of the dishes we've had so far. I was a bit taken back by the adding of $2 per dinner to get brown rice instead of white. That was $8 more in total for our 4 dinners. That's just ridiculous. Next time I will fire up my rice cooker before I go pick up my food and cook $0.50 worth of brown rice. Maybe they will reduce my meal charge by $2 for not taking any rice.
