Maque Choux with Chicken
Lisa M.

Yum! Ordered to go because we weren't sure how busy they'd be with the solar eclipse. Good thing too! It was super busy. Parking was hard to find on a Sunday evening. Maybe because of the eclipse? Or maybe that's how it always is. Husband said it was packed inside--lines winding all around. The place is popular for sure. What we got: Crawfish etouffee - Spicy but tasty. Definitely hearty. Enough for leftovers (we got the pint size). Chicken maque choux - Probably spicier than the etouffe & just as hearty. Regular size and still had leftovers. Nothing really for our kids to eat except the bread...but they really like the bread for whatever that's worth. We had to order dinner for them from somewhere else. I think I'd stick to the crawfish next time. We're more seafood people, but mistakenly thought the maque choux would be mild. TL;DR hearty and spicy, but good (just not good for kids who can't handle heat)

I honestly can't figure out why I have never been here? I have a distant memory of not liking the food but given that I didn't remember the bread I feel like maybe that was a fever dream?? Anyways stopped in for lunch with my brother and I was blown away by the food along with the quantity and quality. I got the maque choux with chicken and I could eat that for all time. What a time to be alive. I will now be frequenting Yats all the time.

My staple spot. This Yats has the warmest family staff and the warmest family flavors that have never missed. I crave the drunken chicken often, get it often, and strongly suggest it to every Hoosier.

Highly recommend! 5/5 The portion sizes are super generous and balanced between rice, entree and bread. Absolutely an option for a lunch on the go- this has consistently been ready in less than 5 minutes during the lunch hour. Depth of flavor and the worlds best bread! Consistent across locations!

Drunken Chicken and red beans and rice

Yats is always one of those food places I forgot about. This does not happen because I don't like the food; it's not a place I visit often. However, when I remember to visit (about 2-3times a year), I fall in love again. For me, Yats is like that one love you let get away, and every time you connect, it's like falling in love again. I fell in love again this month (10/2022). I stopped in and ordered Red Beans and Rice and Drunken Chicken and, of course, that excellent bread. Now, speaking of the bread, I was a bit worried after I noticed an employee that was preparing orders and bringing them out not wear gloves while touching the bread they prepared. Yeah, I had already had a good portion of my bread down my gut when I was sitting near the drink station at the College location and watched the employee doing this. I am so hoping this is not a standard thing for the staff to do.

New to the area and tried Yats after hearing so much about it. I have to say WOW. I highly recommend the Maque Choux to anyone (especially if you aren't a big fan of spice). One of the employees there knew it was my first time and even went to the back to bring me out a free sample, which meant the world to me. The amazing toasted bread, rice, and entree for only $9 made it a steal. They've earned a new loyal customer.

Chicken Maque Choux (which I'm probably spelling wrong)

The chicken maque choux from Yats is one of the only things I get a craving for. It's slightly sweet and the perfect comfort food plus the bread served with it is like garlic bread's cooler friend lol. I always order extra. The food at Yats is always consistent and delicious. And it heats up well if you happen to have leftovers.

Want your taste buds to sing while wrapped in the vibes of New Orleans? This place is for you. Did I mention it is delicious AND affordable?? You can try any of the options on the menu before you order. The food always comes out quick and every meal comes with warm, buttery bread. This is my go-to place and worth braving the parking for. If you aren't coming here, you really are missing out.

At the door we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. When we said outside, the hosts squabbled with each other in front us about where to seat us. We were sat and waited about 5 minutes before we saw our waitress. When it was mentioned it was my girlfriend's birthday, it wasn't even acknowledged. But, we ordered and then waited....the food came 50 minutes later, with the lesson just about to start. We had also mentioned we were there to dance. When we asked if we could maybe move inside so our guests could see the lesson before dancing, they instead offered to put the food under lamps. We opted to eat it as we had waited so long for it. Before my meal had come I had finished my water, but the waitress was nowhere to be found to bring more water. When she finally did show and we asked for more, she seemed annoyed and brought two pitchers to leave with the table. The food itself was ok. I tried my girlfriend's dish and it was admittedly pretty good, while mine was just ok. That could be a personal preference thing. Given the poor service, prices, and the fact that regardless of service, they automatically charge all tables 20% gratuity, I don't think we'll be eating there again.

The bag came and when I opened it wow it smelled great. Lobster tail was a nice size and very good. Shrimp was great the crab legs were very good. They were about size 3,5-4 on the crab scale that runs 1-5 (5 being the best size) the crabs legs had great meat in them and very big. Normally places give you a size 2-3 so this was a very nice surprise. Potato's and corn were great. Very happy with the food and value. Great deal if I lived here I would come once a week. I couldn't let frozen seafood happen on his birthday-he LOVES seafood. Here come's a recommendation for Tiff's Love Butta. Ordered from their website (could've ordered from DD & saved $5 but I'd rather order from a local business directly than give my money to DD). The website was SO easy to use, and setting up delivery was equally as easy. Even better that I was able to pick a time almost 12 hours later in the day so it would be hot & fresh right when he got home. I ordered him the *(1 lb) Love Butta Baked Snow Crab Clusters, 1/2 lb Shrimp, 1/2 lb Sausage, Smothered Potatoes, 1 Corn* and he LOVED it. He only ate half of it before succumbing to a food coma, and then he woke up in the middle of the night to even eat more. I cannot thank y'all enough for making my husband's birthday so special. And y'all have lamb too? He's gonna be so happy, he loves lamb. I can't wait to surprise him again with another beautiful meal from this place.

We sat outside on the patio, which offered a fantastic fall vibe with the turning leaves and people strolling by enjoying the weather. We started with the Dirty Fries dusted with Cajun spice, which were decent, though fairly average. For entrees, my wife ordered the Savannah Style Shrimp and Grits, which were rich, creamy, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. I had the Shrimp and Scallops, and it was easily one of the best-looking dishes ever set down in front of me--it looked straight off a magazine cover. More importantly, it tasted just as good as it looked, with both the shrimp and scallops cooked to perfection and boasting great sear marks. Having never tried okra before, we also ordered a side of Garlic Okra out of curiosity and were pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was. Our server, Deyan, delivered 6-star service from start to finish. If you're anywhere near the area, Juniper on Main is an absolute must-try

I feel like most seafood places will have vegetarian options by way of removing the fish from pasta dishes or salad, but it's also nice to know that you can get chicken as a substitute on most of these kinds of dishes, too. Granted, it's just like chicken tenders, but still good nonetheless. I really like their firecracker pasta, which is moderately spicy in my opinion. There's no particular fishy smell here, which is always a good sign that the seafood they serve here is freshly prepared. Our food always comes out quickly for lunch and we've been a group as large as 8 or 9. I do believe that ordering is mostly done online in their mass Ave location, though. I don't really seek out a place like Slapfish on my own (no offense at all, just not a seafood girlie!!), but I would assume that it's a rather popular establishment as they recently opened a fifth location in the greater Indy area. If I did like fish and such more, I'd probably be here on a more regular rotation.
