Tasty food, Pleasant employees, nice ambiance. A good option for eat-in Asian dinner( take-out too).

The family came here for a special occasion on a Thursday night. Despite no reservations, we were seated quickly. The interior is very dark, perhaps "intimate", with tall booth walls. In the background on the TV was the Food Network. Our waitress was very polite and gave us time to order. I started with the Szechuan dumplings which turned out to be steamed dumplings in a spicy peanut saucy. They were very soft, almost to the point of mushy, and the meatball inside was chewy. I had never heard of them before and really enjoyed them, though I didn't find them spicy. My wife disagreed on that point, and didn't care for them. For my son, we ordered "chicken fingers". They were larger pieces of battered deep fried chicken (think sweet and sour chicken) and cooked so long as to be hard and greasy. He didn't want to eat them, and after one bit I completely agreed. They were terrible. Very little meat, very hard coating, very oily. Yuck. We threw nearly all of it away. My wife ordered sushi, and during the ordering process there was some confusion as to what fish came with it and whether there was an upcharge or not. She ended up with a standard sushi order and didn't enjoy it all that much. It might have been sitting around a bit too long. I ordered the General Tso chicken and was very disappointed. There was lots of chicken and it wasn't fried as hard as the chicken fingers, but I didn't like the sauce. It was loaded with minced ginger, shallots, and garlic which gave it a much different taste than anywhere else I have had this dish. As I looked at it more, it hit me... I have bought this bottled sauce before from the supermarket. I think it is "Iron Kitchen" brand, and I used to have some in my fridge (when I bought it, I discovered it didn't taste good either so it sat in my fridge for ages). Yangs didn't make their sauce from scratch, and it was gloopy and thick. he picture of this dish on the online menu doesn't match what you get. Do they always use this sauce? I dunno, but it was one of the worst versions I have ever eaten. After dropping off our food, the waitress disappeared and was clearly busy with other tables. She never checked on us to see how we were doing, and it took a while for someone else to refill our drinks. They did a tremendous amount of takeout while we were there. All in all, it was a very disappointing meal. We won't be back. read more

The food is great. The ambiance is very nice and pleasant. The service is kind. We didn't like that fact that because our daughter is 13 she can't order the kid's meal because she is older than 10. What is the difference? She didn't want the large portion, she's little and she doesn't eat a lot. So they forced us to buy the larger portion. That's a poor money grab in my opinion. Other than that little bit it's overall ok. They should delete the age limit for children. read more

I stopped in for a late lunch with a craving for sushi. I had never been to Yang's before, but I was familiar with several of the other spots in the strip mall and decided to give it a try. The dine-in area was empty during my visit, but the restaurant was clearly busy with takeout orders--people were regularly coming in to place or pick up food. Having the dining room to myself, I found the staff to be very attentive and quick to take my order. I chose the sashimi lunch special, which came with miso soup, a house salad, and hot tea. I also added an order of edamame. The edamame was freshly steamed and served in the bamboo basket it was cooked in. It was hot, lightly salted, and a perfect way to start the meal. The salad was a simple iceberg mix with dressing. Unfortunately, the dressing didn't have much flavor, so it felt a bit underwhelming. The miso soup was standard--hot, with small pieces of tofu, and just what I expected. The sashimi was nicely sliced, though I found it a bit lacking in flavor on its own. I added soy sauce and wasabi, which helped enhance the experience. I did appreciate the attention to detail with the octopus sashimi--each slice was separated by a thin piece of lemon, which added a subtle citrus note that worked well. read more

My boyfriend and I were so over cooking dinner that we decided to make it a movie night with some Chinese takeout. I opted for the general tsos, he went for the sesame chicken, and we shared a spicy crab sushi roll because, let's be real, sushi is the best. It was a bit on the pricey side, but we said well let's try it. So, how was it? Just okay. The rice was dry, the broccoli was basically just a crunchy and raw little decoration, but the chicken and sushi roll were pretty great. And then I realized - no fortune cookies. What kind of Chinese place doesn't give you fortune cookies? It's like they're not even trying. read more

After a long drive home, we decided to visit Yang's and grab some sushi and a stirfry dish. One of the first things we noticed as we approached the restaurant was the health inspection grade taped to the front window. There were three choices, excellent, good and fair. Yang's had received the lowest rating, which is Fair. We ordered, and after about 25 minutes, my sushi came out. My wife's stirfry dish, however, did not come out. When asked of the waitress, the response was "we're cleaning the kitchen." After another 15 minutes, her meal came out. At that point, I had already eaten my sushi, which was the worst sushi I've ever had in recent memory, and the role was wrapped in soggy rice and had some non-descriptive fish salad stuffed in as filler. The staff was unapologetic initially and presented to us with the bill with a 20% surcharge already added as a tip. read more

This spot is so close and convenient to me, but this is my first visit! Yang's has been on my list for a while and it always recommended to me by a friend. Located in Newton Plaza, the location is easily accessible and I could see it being super convenient for take out. It's an Asian bistro with all the options you could want, Thai, sushi, hibachi, etc. The dining area is nice, they have a sushi bar you can sit at, otherwise it's all tables and booths. They do not have hibachi tables here, you just order it to your table. It was a relaxing spot for a nice dinner. The service was great, they were always checking in to make sure we were happy. I started with some hot sake which hit the spot. My friend and I both ordered hibachi dinners and the soup and salad came out right away. The clear soup and house ginger salad were standard and good. Then the hibachi platter came out, great portions! The filet was perfectly cooked. I loved the dipping sauces too! The mustard sauce was to die for, I put that on everything! The portions were great and we both had a box to take to go. A good spot to come with friends or a casual date night! I will come back to try more items or maybe try take out. read more

Delicious hibachi takeout! I ordered chicken hibachi dinner which comes with salad, clear soup, tons of tasty chicken, noodles and fried rice. I also added an egg roll which was excellent. The salad dressing was a great combo of ginger and savory miso flavor. Clear soup was still hot, savory and a little smoky. Main course had well-seared chicken with a delicious sauce. Not greasy at all and with great flavor. Also came with some excellent hibachi sauces! Overall, totally worth the price and wait for some delicious takeout. Friendly staff inside as well. I went into this place thinking this would be an upscale Chinese spot. But I was wrong, it's the same stuff as any other corner Chinese spot. I ordered Beef broccoli and shrimp lomein for my Friday night dinner. Beef in the beef broccoli was not good. Somehow all Chinese restaurants don't use premium cut for beef broccoli dish. They use fatty nasty meat. The shrimp was microscopic in my shrimp lomein. I would like to pay $5-8 extra and would like jumbo shrimps please. 3 stars from my side, nothing special. read more

The atmosphere was nice, casual and cozy. We were seated quickly but even though the restaurant was not busy at this point, the food took forever to come. Good news? Tangerine chicken and Mongolian beef were delicious, with generous portions. Bad news? Dumplings did not taste fresh. Luke warm which is a no no. Service was friendly but it was very difficult to get a waitress. The menu looked to me more Japanese orientated than Chinese or fusion as advertised. Would I go back? Maybe. read more

This place is awful!!!! food and service were both horrendous.... waitress didn't not understand what I ordered, and when I told her it was not what I ordered she told me I was wrong and I had to order a 2nd dish..... entrees were both horrendous..... chicken katsu that was so dry and tough it was inedible, and pad Thai that was a pile of mush.... waitress made us wait for the check while she was behind the bar on her phone for 10 minutes..... called to speak to a manager, was told they were not working. asked when they would be working, and was told "I don't know" and hung up on..... $100 dollars down the drain..... and now I need to find dinner elsewhere. read more

I truly don't understand how this place had such high rating. My husband and I are on the hunt for good sushi in the Troy area and this was the first place we tried. We got various types of maki, nigiri, and entrees to try and all of it was kind of terrible. The quality of raw fish (Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail) wasn't good where it was either tasteless (in a bad way when it comes to raw fish) or had a taste that didn't align with the fish being eaten. Even their spicy tuna maki wasn't good, it was flavorless. We also got some entrees, like Chow Foon, for lunch the next day and we had some while it was hot. The smell of the dish smelled like it was rancid. I tried getting past the smell and ate some and it tasted pretty bad too. My husband and I have been writing down all the places we try so we remember what places we like and don't like...we gave this place a 2/10. I genuinely wanted it to be better, so I'm very sad it wasn't. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

We love their Hibachi lunch specials, perfect flavor in every aspect. Salad, soup, meat, fried rice, it's great. Now one area of caution, DO NOT get the brown rice with the other entrees or items. This is a great place on any day. We came for lunch, after my husband suddenly decided he wanted to go out on Christmas Day to catch some of the Packers vs. Dolphins game which was blacked out on DirectTV. After a lot of disagreement about where to go, I picked Yang's Bistro and I got final say because I was driving. Of course, we all know that most Chinese restaurants are open on Christmas Day. Nothing has driven that home more in American culture than the film, A Christmas Story. We were first to show up at Yang's for lunch. We made a bee line for the large tv at the bar. The staff put on the game for us. The food here is actually Asian fusion. My husband got the octopus and fluke sashimi. It was great. Very fresh. No photo. Sorry. He was too busy eating and I was too busy trying to see if he would share some, which he did. My Singapore Mei Fun was the real deal. I'm not sure I did myself a favor by telling the waitress in Chinese that I can eat really spicy food and that I love curry. They made it spicy alright. It was as authentic as could be. My husband kept reaching over to scoop some out of my plate. He said it was perfect. They gave me such a large order that--even with my husband "helping"--I don't think I even ate half of it. More great leftovers for me tomorrow! The husband's Filet Mignon & Scallop Hibachi was wonderful. He thought it was perfect, too. I was relieved. He's such a fussy foodie. He insists on having his steak rare. We shared a dessert. Mostly, because he wanted to stay to watch a bit more of the game. He picked the Pumpkin Cheesecake. I didn't object. It was amazing. They even dressed it up with whipped cream and sprinkles, but the cake was really delicious to begin with. They just made it richer and even better. I saved this bit of news for last. The bartender, Frank, makes really great drinks. I love Lychee Martinis, because I love lychees and the cocktail that I had here was among the best. I also really enjoyed the green tea shot. Light. Not too sweet. So we came partly for the game, but we ended up with our own Christmas story. We left happy, full and fully entertained by a really awesome meal at Yang's. The staff was very nice and attentive. We weren't the only customers. Soon other families started arriving. The staff was taking a lot of phone calls from people checking to see if the restaurant was open. If the callers showed up as we did, they would have found out that Yang's is a great place during the holidays. read more

Food is great, the price is about right (on the expensive side). service was not great. The food came at separate times for all 4 people in our group (? No heat lamp or they just don't care) setting up the uncomfortable "should we start" situation but after 4 separate deliveries over 5-10 minutes we managed by laughing and eating. No worries on there part! The waitress isn't going to check back with you here to wave and ask for what you need. We went for my daughter's birthday and got hibachi. It was not cooked table side which we were fine with. It was brought to us on large square plates filled with generous amounts of food. The dinner came with both rice and noodles which was nice. Usually you only get one or the other. The rice was not super flavorful, just basic. The noodles were good. The meat and veggies were fresh and tender. The 2 shrimp that come with every choice were grilled and very tasty. The restaurant is on the darker side but decorated beautifully and feels elegant. We had a nice dinner and would go back. There were a lot of sushi choices. We didn't get that but if someone likes sushi, they will appreciate the variety. read more

I've been going to yangs for years and is probably my favorite place to get sushi in Albany. I ordered the sushi and sashimi for two. The fish is very fresh and this combo comes with a lot of food. You really get the value for your money at yangs. All customers are temperature checked, tables spaced out, there is hand sanitizer throughout the restaurant. I'm happy that they are following the precautions, most restaurants are not. Cannot wait until next time I am in Albany so I can go go yangs! read more

I am not a Chinese food person. However, I actually enjoy this restaurant. So far, I have tried the house fried rice, house noodles, orange chicken, curry chicken, chicken Satay and crab rangoon. I actually think crab rangoon was tasty and crunchy. It has authentic flavor. I thought the curry chicken was flavorful and not heavy. I say my fave so far is the house noodles. It has all beef, chicken and seafood. I also want to mention, the portions are huge and the price is reasonable. I have only had take outs but I will be a repeat customer. Between the four of us we had a variety of dishes between rolls, sashimi, cooked dishes, soup and salad, and everything was tasty. The price was reasonable and the service was excellent. We went to sit down and were seated right away and they checked temperatures at the door. Atmosphere 4/5: I was really digging the atmosphere. It seemed like a good mix between modern and a typical American Asian restaurant. Customer Service 5/5: Everyone working there was wearing a mask, and the attentiveness from all staff is noted and made the experience that much better. Food 4/5: Food was great. Definitely a bump up from other places around here. I got a tiger roll and my dinner date got the hibachi chicken. Both were good but the tiger roll was definitely the standout. Yang's is a reliably good restaurant that serves a variety of Asian cuisine. During COVID we are getting takeout at least once a week. I ordered online and when I arrived to pick up the food there were many others waiting too. I ordered the Wok Thai Basil Chicken. It was fragrant with basil and just a bit of sweet heat. The tender chicken was plentiful and the vegetables tasted fresh. Because I love sushi so much I also had a yellowtail appetizer. The fish was fresh and fulfilled my sushi craving. One of my sons had an Tiger Roll a thing of beauty and delicious filled with many kinds of seafood, avocado, crunch, spicy mayo and eel sauce. My 15 year old got the triple delight with shrimp, beef and chicken cause who wants to choose? He devoured it and still had leftovers for the next day. M husband got the Malaysian Chicken Curry. Different from Indian Curry it was quite spicy with onions and peas. We have never been disappointed with Yangs. The portions are good as is the quality and flavor. read more

First timers. We loved it all. We started with the Spicy Rock Shrimp which was perfectly crispy and spicy sweet. We split an egg roll just to try it and it was yummy. The plum wine and cosmopolitan were delicious. The presentation of the food far exceeded our expectations. The Chilean Sea Bass roll was amazing. The filet mignon/chicken hibachi meal was a large portion that came with fried rice/noodles/miso soup/ginger salad. The filet mignon melted in our mouth. The miso soup was delicious. When I first walked in to this dimly lit, strip-mall restaurant for a late lunch, I guess the staff did not expect anyone to actually sit at the 4-seat sushi bar (photo). At least, when the server cleared off some of the used towels and stacks of plates to make me a space, she was kind enough to wipe down the area where I would be eating. She got most of the debris before seating me and presenting me with both hashi and a fork. I looked around at the mostly empty restaurant to see few diners, but a handful of "ladies-who-lunch" at the alcohol bar. While he waited for my order to be entered into the system, the chef presented me with a small amuse bouche: a small ball of maguro salad wrapped in avocado slices. Not bad - at least it wasn't the shredded surimi I have been offered in other restaurants by other chefs. But then I was given a less than memorable salad and soup. The main itself was not too bad. The two-plate plating (photo) was very simple and unadorned, with the less than perfectly created maki hidden away underneath. The rice itself was very lightly seasoned, the not-spicy salmon maki could not overpower the "crunch" flavorings, and the unagi seemed to have a little more fat attached to the skin than normal. The nigiri were better, with the saba and hirame leading the way, but as is common at too many local restaurants, the tamago was not grilled/rolled, but a custard. I kind of got the idea that the server did not want me there, as she presented the bill before she cleared my plate or asked me if I wanted anything else. That's OK. I was just too thrilled at receiving a prepackaged fortune cookie with my bill. Looks to be authentic. Maybe it's still fresh. Maybe I'll use my fork to open the plastic wrap. We traveled to the area for sushi - but our regular sushi place was unexpectedly closed. So, I had a Double Take deal for Yang's and had never been there....so we decided to try it. First, the place is lovely - very nice ambiance/space. The booth that we sat in was a bit awkward - the benches were very far away from the table and a bit uncomfortable. Also, it was chilly in there. Second, the service was awkward. There were points when the staff disappeared for very long periods of time, but they did keep the green tea coming (which won some points since it was so cold in there). Third - we went early - it was about 5:30 - and the place was pretty empty. We were the only patrons in there for a while (there were 2 other tables there when we arrived). On to the food: Appetizers were really good - we had an avocado salad with tuna sashimi and a salmon skin salad. The avocado was perfectly ripe and there was a generous portion of it. There were a few small pieces of tuna but that was fine for an appetizer. The wasabi mayo that it came with was delicious. The salmon skin was one of the best that I've had in this area; I would get this again. For dinner, did all sushi (rolls and pieces)i: -Salmon sushi - not great. Dry and lacking flavor -Yellowtail sushi - excellent -Salmon/Avocado roll - average -Yellowtail scallion roll - average -White tuna sushi - flavorless -Asparagus roll - decent; would like the asparagus cooked a tiny bit more -Ikura sushi - decent; have had better The green tea was really, really good. Awkward seems to be the theme tonight....when I showed the waitress my phone's QR code with the double take deal information, she said, "I'll be right back" and walked away with my phone. I think that she should have brought the manager or other staff member over to the table instead of walking away with my expensive smart phone. The menu is extensive and there are a lot of other things to choose from. I will go back at some point to try the Thai dishes....but I'll stick to my regular place for sushi. read more
