The appetizers were excellent but the main dishes were slightly disappointing. We LOVED the chicken liver mousse, especially the fluffy but perfectly toasted bread that came with it. Fish collars and snap peas were also delicious and cooked perfectly. But the hainan fish rice and Dan Dan campanelle missed the mark. The fish in hainan fish rice was cooked really nicely but the chicken fat rice was basically just butter and barely any chicken flavor. Dan Dan campanelle was way too saucy/watery, and the sauce overpowered the mushrooms. I strongly prefer traditional Dan Dan noodles over this version. Had some business at in the neighborhood and took the opportunity to have lunch at Yang's with a friend. Dry-aged barramundi collar - yum! House salsa verde and chili crisp drizzled on top was ‍ Steelhead & ikura bowl - one of the prettiest bowls I've been presented with in quite some time. Fantastic grilled yuzu-miso-marinated dry-aged steelhead, ikura, greens, house pickles, marinated jammy egg on top of multigrain rice...perfect lunch! I mixed it all together and had it bimbimbap style so I could get a little bit of everything in each bite. We're disappointed that the quality of food has been going down recently. For the last 4 times that we've been there, the salads from the breakfast plate were partially spoiled. Then on top of that, I found 2 fish bones from my steelhead. His breakfast plate's hash brown was a paler color and wasn't as crispy as before. We really hope the quality goes back to normal. On my way to Palm Desert I made a pit stop in Alhambra for brunch at Yang's Kitchen. I'm glad I did. The Mochi pancake is the best pancake I have ever had...by far. I judge chefs on their scrambled eggs. The eggs were a beautiful hue of orange and perfectly cooked. Fluffy and moist with a perfect richness. I chose the sausage for my protein and it was excellent! Yang's Kitchen is located on Main Street, right across from Popping Yolk Cafe. Parking is available on the street and also in parking lots/ structures within a reasonable walking distance. My husband, our little girl dog and I came here for lunch with our friend Tora M. We decided upon this restaurant last minute since another restaurant we had initially chosen was closed for vacation. And because Yang's kitchen was dog friendly, this seemed to be a good fit (there are only 3 tables outside with covered seating). Tora M signed up for the Yelp waitlist, which helped cut down the waiting time once we arrived. We were seated around 1:30 pm and given menus. After looking over the menu, we ended up purchasing: Yang's Set Meal with Grass Fed Hanger Steak, $28 prior to tax- My husband ordered this. It was nice that he was asked by our server how he would like his steak cooked. He asked for medium and it was cooked to that doneness. The steak was good. My husband thought the food was good but didn't feel full after eating. Side of Grilled Seasonal Farmer's Market Vegetables, $13- We were not aware that this was a side dish, because based on the menu description, it stated that the Yang's Set Meal comes with a side of "seasonal Farmers Market vegetables" and so we thought this was it. We had just asked about it when my husband ordered this meal so didn't realize I was charged for this until I paid for the bill. But despite the mix up, it was good but not sure if it is worth the price Cornmeal Mochi Pancake, $18 prior to tax- I ordered this and liked the persimmon topping that was included with the pancake and would not have thought to make such a topping with persimmon. The pancake itself had a good chew and texture from both the mochi and cornmeal. The size of one large pancake is plenty for one person. Cold Sesame Noodles, $18 prior to tax- Tora M ordered this. I had a small bite of this and thought it tasted good. Oolong Tea, 8 oz, $6 prior to tax- We got two ordered for this, one for Tora M and one for my husband. They both liked the tea but was surprised and disappointed to find out that $6 each is just for one serving and that they do not get any refills. Elaine's Purin Pudding, $10 prior to tax- Tora M decided to order this as a dessert to share. I had a bite and thought it was good but was fine was just the one bite. I think my husband also thought it was good and Tora M as well. ----------------------- (Total= $109.12 after tax, prior to tip) Although service was very friendly (the employees all seemed to really love seeing my little girl dog and this cute corgi sitting at the table next to us), it was minimal. We made a reservation so that helped us to get seated quickly for dinner. Service was attentive and our water was always replenished timely without being asked. We sat outdoors but didnt need heaters since the weather was nice. We tried a few dishes: smoked fish dip, pork jowl char siu, Hainan fish rice, mapo Tofu and the hangar steak. Everyone loved the fish! The steak was well cooked at medium rare but for $49 for steak and fries, my husband said it tasted good but probably wouldn't spend that much to get that dish there. Mapo Tofu has a hint of spice and is not your typical mapo Tofu. It tasted good and something I'd get if I want a different flavor for my mapo Tofu. I do recommend making reservations or joining the waitlist on the app as this spot is normally packed on the weekends. I ordered the Pork Jowl Cha Siu for my appetizer and the Dan Dan Campanelle for my entrée. The pork jowl was so tender and it melted in your mouth and was smoked to perfection. It came with a side of hot mustard that paired well with it and gave off a good kick of spice. The Dan Dan Campanelle was a highlight and was such a unique dish for me. The peanut & sesame sauce was thick and rich and it clung to the pasta well. The sauce was a good blend of sweet & savory and with the chili crisp on top, you got a little bit of spice and numbness. The mushrooms & mustard stems added an extra level of texture and umami on top that made the whole plate a wonderful combination. It is a delicious new take on a traditional dish. I got the black sesame cake for dessert and it was simply wonderful. The cake was moist and not dry and had a great texture with plenty of black sesame flavor. The homemade whipped cream on the side was great alongside every bite and I would happily order it again in a heartbeat. The service here was excellent with the staff being so friendly and helpful with any questions I had. They brought my food out at a good pace and were attentive as they were checking in on tables ensuring everyone was having a good meal. It was my friend's birthday and he loves Asian brunch, so we decided to try this place out. We ordered a ton of dishes: cold sesame noodles, cornmeal mochi pancake, multigrain porridge, smoked salmon hash, milk custard, and Yang's set meal The cold sesame noodles were very solid. I wished the cornmeal mochi pancake was a little chewier like mochi, but it was more like a normal pancake. The multigrain porridge had so many flavors and textures, which was very interesting. They also give a LOT, it's shareable for about 4 people. The smoked salmon hash was very smoky. Yang's set meal was great because it was like eating brunch in Asia with a bunch of different accouterments with your main. We got both the barramundi and the steak and the barramundi was far better. The milk custard topping was a little too sweet for me, but the custard itself was really good. They also gave us a chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie and they were great! This place, although does source quality ingredients, does not know what to do with them. I'm not going to go one by one because they all really suffer from the same issues. All the dishes felt like they lacked something to bring it all together and were unpolished. Most items were either average or slightly above average. Some were downright disappointing (fish collars [no salt!] and dan dan). I came into the dinner incredibly optimistic and hoping I just had a bad experience the last time I was here, but I was wrong. We hopped on the Yelp Waitlist and were seated very quickly. Inside is cute, aesthetic, cozy, and kind of tight knit! It was our first time here so we ordered the Breakfast Plate with the chicken and upgrading the hash to the salmon hash, the Marketplace Plate with medium rare steak, and the Chicken Liver Mousse Appetizer. Food took awhile to come out but once it did, our first impressions were that everything was so small! Do not come hungry here at all because we ate everything and was not full. The Breakfast plate was good, but it seemed like what we could make at home? The arugula salad was super salty so someone had a heavy hand and it was hard to finish, and the upgraded salmon hash was yummy! The chicken was tasty, but again, portions were way too small. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The Marketplace Plate came with very small pieces of steak, cooked perfectly, but the plate was filled with just broccoli. There were other veggies added but not so much of a medly. It was just an okay dish, this is what I meal prep for myself at home on a daily. I understand that this place uses ingredients from local sources etc but my dish in particular did not taste any different than me getting broccoli/bok choy at 99 ranch down the street and a bigger piece of steak for the same exact price or less. It was a basic meal and lacked oomph or that restaurant quality feel for me. It was kind of a let down, but it was still finished. Chicken Liver Mousse Appetizer was the star for us. It came with a jam that paired nicely with the toasted bread and the pickles veggies on the side. We wish the dish came with more pickled veggies as we finished that first. Would highly recommend. Overall we both agreed that this place is definitely aesthetic and trendy and they serve alot of wine type food, but for all that it is and the small portions, it breaks the bank heavily. I would come here again if I was invited to, but I wouldnt choose to come back unless they have a rotating menu and put out more dishes that peak interest as I consider myself a foodie so I gotta try everything thats new! Scallop appetizer was good said the spouse, now my fish collar, seasoning is nice ...but a tad salty, they need to watch this .. my palate is on the salty side and I find it a tad salty ..I squeezed the entire half lemon that comes with it...on it. The duck leg taro was well done, crispy outside..tasty inside , not over cooked. The taro was a nice touch. My Dan Dan pasta rendition was interesting and flavorful , nice hint of spice ...but once again a tad on the salty side. I would say both of dishes, reduce the sodium level or whatever it is that's giving the sodium taste down by 10% and it should be a lot better. The Japanese pudding flan was perfect, hit the right spot, looks like what my mother in law makes, taste better lol . I have to say the service is top notch, Michelin star level. Finally tried Yang's Kitchen and was not disappointed! They're super popular so waiting times are long, but they offer remote queueing so be sure to join the waitlist before heading over! The staff were so friendly and one made small talk with me after complimenting my shirt. We ordered the smoked salmon hash, chicken wings, cold sesame noodles, and steelhead & ikura bowl. The smoked salmon hash was my favorite dish out of the four, but is quite small for the price we paid. The creme fraiche wasn't overpowering and paired really well with the smoked salmon. The chicken wings were my least favorite simply because it's quite messy and difficult to eat. Flavor is great, but I wish they were flats instead. I was very pleasantly surprised by the cold sesame noodles as I was afraid it'd be too heavy, but the sauce was really light and had a slight sweetness and acidity to it. A very balanced dish overall! The steelhead and ikura bowl was pretty good. I enjoyed the pickled radish which helped cut through the saltiness of the ikura. The fish was perfect cooked, flaky and tender and moist. We all agreed it was missing some sort of sauce. I think a slightly acidic hot sauce would've worked great with this dish. Overall, great place for brunch! It is a bit expensive but the ingredients are super fresh and I love that they work with seasonal produce. My friend & I had a delicious dinner at Yang's Kitchen recently. We reserved the table on Tuesday to dine at around 7pm on Saturday. We parked at a nearby public lot and walked to the restaurant. The staff were quick, friendly, and super informative about the menu and provided great recommendations. The ambiance and environment of the restaurant are casual and cozy. Their indoor lighting is a bit dim in the evening; watch out for their bright signage, so you don't miss it. We ordered the Dry-Aged Hiramasa, Mapo Tofu, and Dan Dan Campanelle. The Dry-Aged Hiramasa was my fave from the night and it was a fantastic starter; the fish was fresh, smooth, and buttery, and it paired well with the ginger-scallion topping. The Mapo Tofu was flavorful and had the right amount of spice that tingled my mouth. The Dan Dan Campanelle was tasty with very al dente pasta and nutty, umami sauce. As for my drink, I got the Oolong Fresca, which could've used some more tea, but it did have a good balance of sweetness & tartness. As for dessert, we got the Black Sesame Cake with Caramel and Elaine's Purin. The Black Sesame Cake was nice, dense, and paired well with the whipped cream, but I do wish the sesame flavor was stronger. The Purin was creamy and not too sweet even with the syrup, and it was my fave dessert from the night. Tried Yang's Kitchen for breakfast this morning and it did not disappoint! Everything we ate was tasty and fresh, as they source nearly all ingredients from local farms. The atmosphere is cute but small. This is a place for intimate gatherings, as most tables are set for two. Now for the food - the soft scrambled egg was done right and the local sausage patty was flavorful. Our pancake was a thin cornmeal, chewy mochi cake with real maple syrup. I also had a strawberry almond milk smoothie, which was fresh strawberry blended with almond milk- yum! Hash brown was very different - thick, creamy interior and a crispy shell. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant. The food tastes high-quality and healthy. I'm a huge fan of Strauss milk, and I finally found a place that serves Strauss soft serve. In my opinion, Strauss is one of the best high-quality dairies out there. Salmon and Hash: I'm usually not a fan of hash browns, but these hashbrowns were the best I've ever had--crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The food here is always a treat! Be sure to get on the yelp waitlist- Yang's kitchen is super packed during the weekend. I got on the waitlist at 11am on a Sunday and was checked in at 12:05pm. This wasn't my first time here, but it's always packed during the weekend so making a reservation beforehand is recommended. Parking: There's free parking at the nearby parking garage (near Gen kbbq on 1st street). We ended up parking on the top floor when we arrived at noon on a Sunday. Still plenty of parking available luckily Service: A bit delayed during the weekend. There were a few servers for the large groups of people in the restaurants and we had to raise our hand at the table and wait a while due to how busy it was. Food: Amazing-ly fresh and delicious! We got the Yang's set meal with hangar steak and the Breakfast plate with a hamburger patty. I was always worried about the small portions based on the pictures, but the food was pretty filling and delicious. The steak was juicy and tender, and the scrambled eggs were incredibly soft and buttery. If I were to order again, I'd go for the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs, hash browns, and hangar steak as I've seen a few tables order that combination. Best to reserve table in advance up to 4 people in your group. We had to make a change to ours but didn't wait too long, maybe about 15-20 mins. Service was great. Atmosphete best for a nice dining out or date. Food sauce flavors didn't really fit that much with my palate besides the scallops dish. They were really tender. Quite simply one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, if not the entire country. Every dish is high quality and extremely tasty. The diverse flavors blend in the mouth to create delicate and rich taste palettes. There seems to be much careful thought put into each dish, and the customer experience reflects that. Mochi pancake: great crispy texture on the outside and a nice chewy texture on the inside. A must get! This review is for Yang's at Night, which is a separate menu than the brunch experience. Get a reservation! They are tight on space and you definitely want to make sure you have a table. First off, excellent service. I can always count on Yang's to provide excellent service and it was amped up for the night experience. The food was amazing. The Fried Chicken came out piping hot and was crispy and crunchy. The Hainan Fish Rice was a delicious surprise. Everything from the fish to the chicken fat rice was fantastic and I'll order it every time I'm here. The Pork Jowl was so tender and melted in my mouth. Another staple.
