I chose Yang Kee based on the stellar reviews, and when I arrived, I was pleased to see the place was busy at 8pm on a weekday considering it closed at 9pm. I ordered 2 simple items for takeout, which they said would be ready around 8:20pm. On my way over, I received a call from the restaurant that they didn't have the noodle for the noodle dish I ordered, so I gave them the green light to substitute for a different rice noodle. The pickup time was now 8:35. When I arrived, it was bright out, the restaurant was loud, and the waiting area was standing room only. I ended up waiting so long that the sun set, the waiting area emptied, half the dining tables cleared, the NBA game ended, the kitchen closed, and staff started cleaning! The front desk person seemed concerned that my order wasn't ready so she checked on my order a couple times. She assured me the noodles were done and it was only the egg tarts that we were waiting for. (Maybe the hens were still hatching the eggs?!!) Considering I ordered online and even waited before driving over, it was ridiculous to still wait an hour for 2 items. I even watched people come in to get seated, order and eat during my time there. I was about to cancel my order to get a refund -- and forego eating dinner altogether because waiting so long there had made me lose my appetite. It seemed obvious there was a mess up somewhere because it was only my order that was not ready. But then someone brought out my bag. The food was honestly just okay. The egg tarts were a 7/10 and dry chow fun was a 4/10. The experience was a 0/10. I can't recommend it. It could've been a fluke experience but the manager could have handled it better. My order should have been comped for taking ONE HOUR longer than it was supposed to be ready.
I was recommended by a local to try Yang Kee Dumpling because I had a hankering for some traditional/authentic Chinese food. Yang Kee Dumpling is located in a small strip mall, equipped with plenty of parking, and EV chargers. When arrived it wasn't too busy, and the hostess showed me to my table. In front of my table was where the staff was making dumplings (they were behind glass). After looking at the menu, I opted to get some traditional soup dumplings, bbq pork fried rice, and pineapple bao buns for dessert. My server was Bing and she was nice and efficient. She came back to check on me a few times throughout my dining experience. My fried rice came out first. It was a LARGE serving of fried rice, it of course had eggs, carrots, peas, and BBQ pork. It was flavorful. Next came out the soup dumplings. They were brought out in a steamer basket with a top to keep them warm. These were amazing. The light and delicate dough, mixed with the savory pork filling, and the salty broth was perfection. Next came out my pineapple bao buns. To be honest, I wasn't sure how I was going to like them. To my surprise these may have been the star of the show. The dough was light and sweet, the top was carmelized and sweet, and the custard inside reminded me of a Dole Whip from disney (exept it wasn't cold, it was warm). These were pretty large and I'm semi embarrassed to admint I had 2 3/4 bao buns myself. Go here. It's delicious.
We've had Yang Kee dumplings in Roseville and wanted to try the original restaurant. The interior is smaller than the Roseville location, but still nice and roomy. Also has the glass window near the kitchen where you can watch workers fold dumplings. We got the classic xiaolongbao, wonton chili oil, and salt and pepper pork. All super delicious and similar in quality to the location in Roseville. I haven't had the wonton chili oil before and although my favorite is usually the salt and pepper pork, my favorite that day was the wonton chili oil. So flavorful and juicy! I will say the location at Roseville has a special menu where you can get specialty sweet baos. So if you're looking for that, the Davis location either does not have it, it is seasonal, or they forgot to give us that menu
Probably the best quality you can get for Chinese food here. It's like novel but higher end but still super affordable. Prices were on the lower end of $20-30 if you get just enough per person + dessert (pineapple bun). I split 8 pork xiaolongbao, 6 shengjianbao/pan fried pork dumplings, 3 beef wasabi pastries, and a seafood sauté which was just the right amount of food for 3 people, and we added pineapple bun on top of that for a total of $78 before tax. I don't think anything was ridiculously good, but everything was very satisfying. service was quick and respectful. I thought it was weird they walked around promoting their pineapple buns to each table but it was worth it. pan fried dumpling: pretty good crunch but no crisp, lots of soup, meat is a bit hard for Chinese standards. came in 5-10 mins first Seafood saute was pretty good but a bit raw for me. I think there was about 10 pcs of shrimp and 10 pcs of scallop, and the overall portion was a bit small. came like 7 mins after the pan fried dumplings w xiaolongbao xiaolongbao: lots of juice, got tired of it fast as it's basic. beef wasabi pastries: 7 mins after the xiaolongbao and sauté, wasabi flavor was not bad at all even though I hate wasabi. Not a lot of beef but the flakiness of the pastry was really fun and it was nice to try it. Slightly sweet glaze on the top was a nice touch Out waiter forgot about our pineapple buns so they came after 20 mins but it's chill, they're small but so good. The custard has actual pineapple and the top crust is actually a little crispy. The bun itself doesn't have that classic pineapple bun flavor but everything else makes up for it especially how soft it is. Super yummy chili oil was very standard and i wouldn't buy a jar of it Ambiance is nice, love the glass showing the kitchen as it reminds me of food joints in China, it's just hella crowded at the entrance but once you sit down it's fine.
After a long discussion, we decided that this is the best taiwanese dumpling place we've been so far! We ordered WAY too much food but we finished it because it was THAT good. I'm not usually a fan of garlic noodles, but my friends and I killed it! Cucumbers (off menu) were fresh and crunchy, the dumplings were so flavorful, and the pork strips were tender. I don't even remember everything we ate because I couldn't stop eating! I really wish they had hot and sour soup for me to wash it all down with! The service was really good! It's SO busy, so I'm glad our friends made the reservation before we got there. The server was nice and the hostess was very accommodating. It does get a little loud, but overall, I loved the ambiance!
Tried this restaurant out since there is a Tesla Supercharger station nearby. I'm glad I did. We got here right before the restaurant opened. I did notice a lot of people waiting in their cars. I was pretty amazed when walking in. I love the decor and enjoyed seeing the chefs making dumpling. This is specially fun if you have kids since they like seeing how things are made. Staff were friendly. I did feel the server was trying to upsell us stuff, but the food was really good and flavorful. The price was very reasonable for this kind of restaurant. When ordering, make sure not to order too much unless you are really wanting to take food back home. I give this place 5 stars. It is the best dumpling house in Davis.
So on the drive home from Cali we had to fuel/charge up ourselves and the car and Fritzie W. and I saw Yang Kee Dumpling. Dumplings? Sold. Pork soup dumpling, shumai and a savoy and dessert filled bao bun. This kept me energized driving two and half hours back into Reno! They were delicious. I don't think but one or two pieces actually made it back home. You've got to love these little holes in the wall per se, these hidden gems, but here in the Davis area they seem to have fans because that place was packed 10 minutes after opening. The ambiance was amazing, thumping during that first half an hour for a Sunday! They were serving up some smell good dishes! Service was good and the hostess polite and courteous, despite our food not being ready at the estimated time but I get it. Busy busy. This is definitely a spot I would go to--to get a quick bite again.
Stumbled and found this place on accident while charging our cars nearby w In Davis. I liked their shumai and salted egg custard the most! Omg I'd come here just for the bao. We also ordered the shrimp soup dumplings . All were so good. 4 stars because it took forever for our order but the wait was worth it. Priced fairly and good portions .
We have tried the Roseville location, and the Davis location is just as good! The menu in Davis is smaller however and does not have some of the same speciality buns as the Roseville location. Despite that, the food is still great. We had the chili oil wontons, pork XLB, and salt & pepper pork. Loved it all. The XLB had so much soup and flavor. The chili oil wontons were my favorite part of the meal. And can't go wrong with salt & pepper pork. Definitely recommend to try
Overall, food was very good. In order, I would rank our items: Pork xiao long bao 4/5 Shrimp xlb 3/5 a little dry Pan fry pork dumplings 4/5 Sauteed broccoli 4/5 Har gow 4/5 Siu mai 4/5 Minced pork steamed bao 3/5 BBQ pork steamed bao 3/5 Wontons in chili sauce 3/5 We were seated by the door, so we had a draft the entire meal, so 2/5 on atmosphere. Service was spotty. Our server was pleasant, but didn't really want us to add more items to our order. After we did, he didn't check to see if we wanted more after that and just dropped off the check. This feels like they're used to people being there under 45 minutes and I felt pressured to turn the table even though they had cleared the wait list. 2/5 on service. Overall, I would have rated a 4/5 if I didn't feel pressured to leave.
My friend from the Bay (whose family used to own a Chinese restaurant) was raving about this place so I knew it had to be legit. We stopped in for dinner after a stroll at the UCD Arboretum and found a super long line outside. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long ourselves since we'd checked in on the Yelp waitlist before heading here (pro-tip!) Based on the reviews, I knew we had to try the soup dumplings and salt and pepper spare ribs. I was having trouble deciding between the four different options for soup dumplings but was stoked to discover after asking our waitress that the "Yang Kee Soup Dumplings" is actually a combo that includes all 4 of the different flavors (with 2 of each) so perfect to share and sample everything-- so up my alley! All of them were delicious but my favorites were the crab pork and truffle dumplings-- hands down the best I've had in Sac! The salt and pepper ribs were super yummy as well, even as someone who typically avoids deep-fried dishes as they weren't overly greasy. We loved the dumpling combo so much that we ended up ordering a second round instead of trying different items LOL but next time I'd definitely love to try some of the noodle soups and traditional dumplings :) My only critique is that they need to advertise the Yang Kee Soup Dumplings better as being the "sampler" option that allows you to try literally every single soup dumpling variety! The couple seated next to us pulled me aside to ask what we had ordered, probs because we were so visibly enjoying them and it's so tough to tell from what they chose to name it on the menu. I also really dug the ambiance, as it didn't feel too cramped despite how many diners there were and we were seated in front of the glass windowed kitchen with a view of the workers meticulously folding the dumplings which was fun to watch. An absolute 5/5 authentic Chinese gem in Davis, highly recommend and cannot wait to come back! read more
My parents requested a dumpling spot for an early dinner and since we were passing through the Davis area and I had a friend who used to work here, I decided to try it out. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. We ordered soup dumplings, the boiled dumplings, pan-fried buns, green beans, and salt and pepper fish. The taste of everything was decent, however, I thought the dumpling skin was overly thick which took away from then taste and for the green beans, the garlic was cut inconsistently, so there were some large chunks but also some small dices. My favorites were the pan-fried buns as well as the salt and pepper fish. The restaurant was kind of hot also, especially the hallway where you walk to the restroom. The service was fine. I would recommend going early or signing up for their Yelp waitlist before you arrive to avoid longer waits. read more

This restaurant was recommended Tonus. The first time we tried there was an hour wait so we left. When we went the second time it was a Sunday at about 3 and we still waited 20 minutes! But the wait was worth it. The soup dumplings were amazing!! You need to try this place!! read more
I am skeptical of any Chinese restaur near Davis but this place was legit. XLB was delish and soupy, pan-fried dumpling (shenjianbao) was also soupy which is hard to find nowadays, although it prob needed some sesame on the outside to be more photogenic. Awesome experience of Chinese dining. Tho don't come here if you want canto food. This isn't that place. But it will still serve rice, noodles, veggies, meat, and dumplings. Just a bit further north. Tho I am from the south side, I ain't gonna hate or bring the smoke. Imma peace keeper! So cheers to the same yummy dumplings from China, just from another mother. Service is friendly and responsive. And they have tvs that play American ball so the ambiance/vibe is all good brother! Come early or you will have to wait in line. Tho you can rsvp ahead of time. We had a good meal at Yang Kee Dumpling. I used the Yelp Waitlist so we didn't have to wait long on a Saturday at 11:30am. The food came out quickly, but the waiter did forget one of our dishes and it took them a while to clear the empty plates (they were busy). What I would get again - Soup dumplings (not the best I've had but still very good) - Ma Po tofu (very flavorful and a generous serving - Yang Chow fried rice - Pork and chive dumplings - Green beans The garlic noodles were good but not as garlicky as I would have liked. The wasabi puff was good (I just wanted to try it). Fried pork ribs were fried nicely but could have used a little more seasoning. Overall a good experience, I would go back again. read more

Came on a Sunday morning right when it opened so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service is quick and friendly. Plenty of options to choose from but some of my favorites were the soup dumplings, honey walnut prawns and garlic noodles. Wasn't the biggest fan of the pan seared dumplings but was still great to try. It can get busy but they do have a Yelp waitlist you can join to help with that. Would come back again to try other items. read more
We drove up to Davis from Vacaville to try Yang Kee Dumplings for a late lunch/early dinner not realizing they close from 3:30-4:30pm. We left and came back around 4:40 and by 5pm all the tables in the restaurant were full. We really liked the beef chow fun with gravy and the salt and pepper tofu. Yang Kee Dumpling is definitely a favorite in Davis. We attempted to come awhile back at noon and the waitlist was over an hour, so after a couple months we decided to give it a try, the smart way! We came during opening, but you can also join the Yelp Waitlist. We came Sunday morning and shortly after, each table was getting filled. The staff here is really friendly and share their recommendations. We had a party of 6, so we ordered a lot of dishes to try. We got the pork soup dumplings, pan fry pork buns, HK shumai, garlic noodles, sautéed green beans, salt pepper spare ribs, honey walnut shrimp, pineapple bao, and steamed salted egg custard bao. We were recommended the pineapple bao because that's what Yang Kee is known for and they only make a limited amount a day, so we had to give it a try! This review would be super long if I went into detail about everything, so I'll keep it as short and sweet as I can. The pork soup dumplings were portioned well and had a good amount of soup. The pan fried pork buns are a little hazardous with how easily it is to burn your mouth. I recommend making a hole and pouring the soup in your spoon because it will take forever for it to cool down. So you definitely need your patience with this one. The family really enjoyed the garlic noodles and spare ribs. The garlic noodles were not shy with the garlic, but not overpowering. The spare ribs were decently sized and the meat was not rough. I thought the honey walnut shrimp was on the smaller size when it comes to portion, but the shrimp themselves were also a good size and I loved the walnuts! The shumai was decently and I have no complaints. The pineapple bao was definitely different from what I've had before. It had actual pineapple chucks inside which added a great texture. It wasn't too sweet and balanced well. I was shocked that the steamed salted egg custard bao didn't come in the classic white and was a little fancy with them being black with some gold accents. I loved how the custard was still warm and gooey. Only reason I put a four star is because the green beans came at the very end even after the dessert. We ordered another order of garlic noodles and that came out way before the green beans. I wish they would have acknowledged they forgot about it or apologized for it coming out so late. Overall, I'd come back again and take my family. A great place to have Chinese and dim sum dishes without going to the bigger restaurants. You can also see the dumplings being made! read more
Tried this place where it is close to my daughter's apartment. Open at 11:00 AM and accept waitlist. We went to run some errands before and put our name on the waitlist while still traveling. Estimated wait time was from 14 mins to 28 mins. Upon arrival, just checked in with one of the staff and wait until being called. Actual wait time was not too long, when we were called, there was a lot of tables were cleaning up. Sat right next to the open kitchen. We were able to watch the whole process of staffs wrapping the Xiao Long Bao. It is a clean environment. One star was taken away b/c one of the kitchen staff was not using gloves like the rest and the mask was not properly worn. Fast ordering and food came out quickly. Their Xiao Long Bao was very yummy. We noticed the use of spice to marinate the meat is different than other stores which made them special. Overall the quality of the food is very good and was a nice experience. Will definitely coming back when we are in town! read more

My partner and I had such an amazing experience here last night, and we left feeling so warm, happy, and excited about our meal! From the moment we walked in, the whole staff was kind and helpful, and I really want to give a HUGE shoutout to Andy. He truly made our night! We ordered the crab soup dumplings and the curry chicken dumplings, and they were incredible! Super hot, juicy, and full of flavor! We also tried the salt and pepper fish and the salt and pepper ribs, and both were unbelievably delicious. The garlic noodles were also a hit, and we loved the little cheese detail on top. Everything we tried was spot-on, and we're going to upload photos of our dishes because they looked just as great as they tasted! This was our first time visiting, and Andy was so patient and friendly with us. We can be pretty picky eaters, and we felt a little overwhelmed at first, but he walked us through the menu, explained everything, and even showed us photo examples of ingredients we didn't recognize. He made us feel comfortable and totally confident that we were in the right place. Andy, you were AWESOME!!! I joined the waitlist ahead of time, and luckily, the place wasn't too packed when I got there--though I can see how it could get busy. Definitely recommend using the Yelp waitlist before heading over so you don't end up waiting too long. I ordered the har gow, xiaolongbao, and wontons in chili oil, plus a fried rice dish. The dumplings were solid--pretty flavorful, fresh, and well-made. The wontons had a nice kick without being too spicy, and the xiaolongbao had a great balance of soup and filling. The fried rice, though, was just okay--nothing bad, just not super exciting. Portions were pretty big, and we even had leftovers. Service was really fast, especially with the dumplings and hot tea. The vibe was nice too--pretty open space with a cool view into the kitchen, which made it feel more fun and lively. Overall, I'd say this is one of the better Chinese spots in Davis, especially for dumplings. The food's good, the service is quick, and the atmosphere is chill. The place is packed, but good thing you can join the waitlist on yelp :) Plenty of parking in the plaza. Interior was nice. They had a big glass window to see the workers wrapping the dumplings. Food: - Pan fried pork buns: Flavor and soup is there! The bun itself wasn't my favorite in taste and texture. I liked the crispy bottom though. - Crab pork soup dumpling: If you like crab, get this! You can really notice the crab in it compared to other places. Bf really enjoyed it. I personally would want to try the regular one next time as I prefer seafood boil for crab. - Wonton chili oil: My favorite dish of the day as flavors and filling was on point. - Hong Kong Milk tea: I honestly ordered it for the cow with a bao because it looks soooo cute! However, it didn't come with it.... because they didn't have any ready that day due to refrigeration issues? Taste wise is ok/normal. - Sautéed green beans: Good portion. - Salt and pepper spare ribs: Presentation was nice, but the aromatics/flavor could be stronger. read more
Delicious! We were on our way to Tahoe and decided to stop by Davis for lunch and we came across this place on Yelp. We ordered pork and shrimp XLB, garlic green beans, sui mai, shrimp dumplings, gravy beef chow fun, shrimp chow fun and pan fried baos! The pan fried baos were my favorite! So juicy, soft with the crispy bottoms! I just couldn't get over how tasty and generous the portions were. The 4 of us were so full that we ended up packing the leftovers. It was still good the next day! I will definitely be back here next time I visit or passing by Davis. It's totally worth the visit! read more

This place has the best garlic noodles ever! It was a busy Sunday night. I highly recommend joining the Yelp waitlist! We joined the waitlist and waited for about an hour for our seat but we kept ourselves busy. The interior is interesting since there was a glass between the kitchen and the seating area. Service was quick and the waiters were very friendly. Food was amazing and good for 5 people. We ordered 5 dishes: crab and pork soup dumplings, walnut shrimp, har gaw, garlic noodles, and house special fish fillet. The highlight of our experience was the garlic noodles though. It is unlike any garlic noodles I have. The rest was packed with flavor. The dishes can be expensive for college students though, but it reflects on the quality. I highly recommend this place for a group of 3+ people to save money. I will definitely come back here and try other dishes. read more

Hidden gem! A great place for a wide variety of dumplings and styles. The soup dumplings were fun. The shu mai were complex in both texture and flavor. We enjoyed the bbq bao as well. Love this restaurant. The dumplings are so good and there are so many choices. The staff is friendly and quick. It can get quite busy so we usually order ahead. It's also fun to watch the dumplings being made. So take out or eating in the restaurant are both good choices. Love this local Davis spot. read more
Impromptu dinner w my former boss and friend who was in town for a water conference at UC Davis Showed up just before the rush...no reservation was made. We were seated right away. Waitress was prompt in greeting us...kept our water glasses refilled during our dining experience Dishes ordered: Pork soup dumpling. Very tasty, fresh out of the steamer, wrapping was not thick at all Beef Chow Fun (dry). Perfectly cooked (wok hey) nice touch w the red onions and not a lot of bean sprouts Garlic green beans. Lots of garlic though flavor was not over bearing. Pork n Chive dumpling. Decent but the wrapper was just a bit thick All in all a great meal They are set up where you can was the ladies wrap the dumplings. You know they are made fresh daily and not frozen. Dropped in here for a lunch around 1pm, only a few tables were full and I was immediately sat. Right off the back I loved seeing the crew in the kitchen making the dim sum by hand behind the glass windows. This is a really cool feature for a dim sum restaurant! The menu isn't large but they have plenty of options. I went with a few dim sum choices and a couple of main dishes. My favorite bites here were the har gow and the garlic noodles with beef. The har gow was so freaking good. The filling of shrimp and egg were so tasty. I wanted to order more. The garlic noodles were cooked perfectly and the beef was very soft. A few times I went in to bite the deep fried spare ribs I bit into the bone so I suggest to take slow bites lol. But the seasonings and batter were on point and stuck to the meat quite nicely. My server was super cool and we talked about the upcoming Sacramento Kings season. This dim sum eatery is unique and made for dim sum fans new and old alike! read more

One of my Davis favorites! Everything I've tried here has been so good. My favorites are the pork soup dumplings, garlic noodles, garlic green beans, har gao, and shu mai. The food is quick to come out and always fresh tasting. I've gotten the chili oil wontons a few times and have not been a big fan - the wontons are a bit bland. A great place to visit with a group and order a bunch of dishes to try and share. read more

Never did I know cabbage could be cooked so deliciously! Highly recommend the Chinese Cabbage. Don't recommend the Shanghai Shumai. Very bland, and only filled with rice. Missing other usual ingredients like mushroom or carrot. Xlb's are mid, could be soupier and the wrapping could be thinner. Salt and Pepper Fish is so good! Exceeded my expectations, really crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside and great flavor! Dumplings are good, not great, just classic dumplings. Service is prompt, very nice waiters, and atmosphere is welcoming. read more

We came back to Yang Kee Dumpling today for an early dinner as we were done with errands in Davis early. We got here around 4:40pm (they open for dinner service at 4:30pm) and there were only a handful of customers in the restaurant. However they quickly filled up within the next 15-20 minutes and by the time we left the restaurant was completely full. Service was good, but we got checked on less as the restaurant got more busy. Food: - Dumpling Noodle Soup - simple broth, but very tasty. They do put a fair amount of cilantro as garnish, so you may want to asked them to not put it if you do not like cilantro. I chose beef dumplings, but you can choose from 4 different types. - Honey Walnut Shrimp - excellent flavor, not overly saucy. The shrimp was not overcooked and the walnuts had a nice sugar coating with a crunch. - Salt and Pepper Spareribs - we tried them last time and we like them so much, we had to order it again. - HK Chow Mein with Beef - bed of noodle was nice and crispy. The beef was super tender and veggie were cooked perfectly, not under or over cooked and had a nice crunch. Nice flavor and not overly salty. - Pan Fried Pork Buns - my older son like them a lot last time that he ate them all, so we were not able to taste them, so we ordered them again so we can taste them. They were really good. Each bun had lots of juice inside and both the juice and filling tasted good. - Egg Tart - very tasty, not too eggy and not too sweet. - Fresh Soy Milk - great flavor and was just delivered from the tofu factory yesterday. - HK Milk Tea - great milk tea flavor, not too sweet and had a cute cow holding bao (made of ice). Do you use peanut oil?
Hi, we don’t use any peanut oil, but we does use sesame oil for some of the items! And some of the menu items are contain with peanut ! We have put nut allergies signs in our menu to indicate which items contain peanut! Thank you
