It was 11:55 am, and although the sign said they opened at noon, the guy sitting out front in an apron was ready to go. His name is Alan, and he seems like a New York original, in the best way. Quick wits, no nonsense, ready with a joke, but also a little salty...but in the best way. I'd imagine it's his jerk chicken stand. I asked a couple of questions, and ended up getting a 1/4 jerked chicken with curry pickles, rice and peas, and greens. They're listed individually, but Alan gave me a bit of each, and said we could call it a lunch special. It was all delicious. The chicken was juicy and smoky. It was cut in three pieces (bone in, skin on) with some heat that creeped up on you. I amped it up with a generous amount of the mango hot sauce that Alan is justifiably proud of. The pickles were sharp and flavorful. The greens weren't collard like I expected, but brighter and raw. The rice and peas were a good base to cool it all down, but I squirted a ton of that hot sauce on them too. By the end of it, I was sweating a little from the spice, which is how it should be after you eat some jerk chicken. I'm gonna come back and eat it again soon.
