Hands-down the best chicken I've ever had in my life and I'll die on that hill. I had seen this place on social media and wanted to try it. When I visited New York a second time I told my girlfriend we had to go here. We had eaten a lot earlier in the day and I still insisted we come here because we didn't have much time left and I really didn't wanna miss out. The kimchi chicken sandwich was phenomenal, and the wings were out of this world. The sandwich in particular was so saucy which made it overall so flavorful. The wings are exactly what you'd expect and more - perfectly crispy, crunchy, and juicy. Was I full from our earlier meals? Yes. But stopping by here on our last night was the right call. Generally I'm easy to please, but when I went back home and asked my peers from NY what they thought about this place, they agreed that it was definitely good! It's unfortunate this location closed down but I'm glad there's still other locations that are open. I just hope they're still conveniently located when I plan my next trip. It comes with a honey bbq sauce , I asked for teriyaki sauce. 1 of us had the chicken teriyaki bowl. My husband had the kimchi quesadilla. The service was ok but all our food did not come out together. 2 bowls were served then we waited I would say between 5-7 minutes for the other 2 dishes. It was nice and clean as was the bathroom. They weren't ready to open by 3PM like Yelp listed but I gave them a call and they informed that it'll be another 10 mins before they do. The consistency of it was totally off. Super watery lacked in flavor. Fried dumplings were good. We got half hot half mild and if you do not like SPICY do not order the hot ones they will have your mouth on fire . This place is the damn deal! I was exploring Williamsburg when my Twitter feed started blowing up with #nationalfriedchickenday. Well, of course I had to get a good reel in! Where're the extra points as my Caribbean mother would say? A hostess led me to one of the picnic tables nearby. (There were only 2 parties there when I walked in at their own private tables.) I thought it was strange since I was a party of 1. I had a fleeting thought that this was one of those communal dining type of places. Not that I would have minded , but I just wanted a quick in and out. (Like everyone else in Wburg.) I ordered a small mixed combo - 3 drumsticks and 5 wings tossed with soy garlic and spicy soy garlic sauce - and a $3 Narragansett can. The back of the space is a split level. On the lower level is the kitchen and restrooms and the upper level has more seating. BTW it's unisex and very clean. They have both air dryers and paper towels. I waited longer than expected for the food, especially since one of the tables already had theirs. But I guess that really goes to show that everything is made to order, which I appreciated. Especially on a Friday night, we expected restaurants to have big crowds, so that should have been red flag #1, which we chose to ignore. As we noticed that the restaurant was about to close (because they began blasting music as an indicator that they were closing and taking out trash while still dining, which is entirely unsanitary), the waitress, Ava Z., continuously walked past our table, which was directly in the center of the restaurant adjacent to where she had been standing (by the bar) and on her phone instead of checking in and giving us the check. We waited about 20 minutes to receive recognition from the staff while trying to gain Ava's attention to present us with the bill. We will not return, nor will we recommend dining there. Celebrating with friends in Williamsburg yesterday, the idea came up to visit Mad For Chicken, like in the old days, when we were young. We walked down Grand Street to the restaurant, asked for a table, and received a lovely 4-top right by the windows. First, Yelp check-in to get a round of free lychee soju shots. Complimentary popcorn was served, and swiftly devoured. After brief deliberation, I ordered large wings, sticks and thighs, half and half. (If it's your first time and you want the classic experience, this is what you want.) After munching through a basket of sweet potato fries, the wings showed up. Seeing those big, juicy pieces of chicken stacked on the plate made me so happy. Eating them just made me happier. When only bones remained, I cleaned my sticky fingers, then rinsed my mouth with a pint of IPA. It felt good to be back. I saw there was a Billyburg location and I was worried the hipsters may have "affected" the flavors, but I had hope. So, I took a chance and Doordash'ed a small, half & half, breast strips and white rice with a side of ranch. I'm so glad I did because it arrived hot, fresh and absolutely delicious! With all the fees, gratuity and such it was about the same price as dining in. The flavor is the same as when you go in person! Let's get into it shall we? This was my second time at MFC. I expected consistency and that's exactly what I got. The plan was originally Chinese for the night, but long wait time means change in plans. We stuck to the Asian theme though. And you can't go wrong with Korean, especially when it's your favorite. Consensus on the mac and cheese was that it lacking OOMPH. Ten's exact words on the bulgogi was "It provides sustenance." Which doesn't inspire confidence. Hence the 4/5. Drinks: If you go for Korean fried chicken, you must get beer. Even better, soju. And to really complete the experience, you just make a somaek--a soju and beer bomb. I was going to order a cocktail, but we got so busy talking and catching up that it just slipped by. But I got grapefruit and green grape soju and a Sapporo to finish it off. At this cross roads of Korean and American comfort food you can find dishes like wings with authentic Korean sauces and kimchi fried rice, to name a few. I've eaten at their location a few times as well. It's a large, comfortable area that slightly reminiscent of a more well kept sports bar that allows for large groups of friends to gather where you can actually hear each other speak. On my most recent occasion I got an order of their spicy boneless wings to go. These never disappoint and always leave me wanting more later in the week. It takes a while to prepare (maybe 20-25 mins) so make sure you order the chicken first. The skin is perfectly fried 2x and the sauce is individually applied to each wing or drum. You can either order soy garlic or spicy soy garlic. I prefer soy garlic because the spicy was a bit too spicy. Delicious nonetheless. Their kimchi fried rice and their nachos was moderate. I've had better fried rice elsewhere. I personally found the rice a bit too sticky and flavorless. I couldn't taste the kimchi. Their nachos were just ok. The actual chips were sort of oily and very thin. The chips broke when you tried to scoop it. Nothing really made it special. Most of the Korean fried chicken places in manhattan are subpar because they cook their chicken ahead of time and reheat them. I really missed The Mad for Chicken location that used to be on 5th ave because they cook it from scratch which ensures a juicy+crispy chicken. This did not disappoint. I was having a very bad case of the Monday blues which was instantly cured when we dropped by Mad for Chicken in Williamsburg for a quick bite. We dined in and we really enjoyed our experience; the vibe was wavy and the service was friendly and attentive. We ordered the avocado salad, which was refreshing and delicious and paired splendidly with the savory vinaigrette. We also tried the truffle fries which came with ketchup and spicy Mayo and were perfectly fried into an airy, crunchy goodness that all fries should aspire to be. The wings were the star of the show: they were fried to perfection with a glorious crispy exterior and that juicy tender meat on the interior that you always crave in a great fried chicken. The food here was excellent in terms of taste and quality and that really shined through in all of the dishes we tried. I love supporting local businesses and I hope they keep up the momentum. After years of coming to New York and living here over a year, I've finally found my go to Korean fried chicken place! Love this place so much, it was our honorable first NYC indoor dining experience since COVID started. They've taken the best precautions for both dine in and to-go order. When we asked to be seated inside, they had our temperature taken from a thermometer on a wall and fill out a form (y'know COVID things). They weren't packed with indoor dining but had ample seating even at 25% capacity. Definitely had to stick to beer and got $5 Hite's (wow such reasonably pricing) and even saw they had soju for $10/bottle which was a great price compared to other places. Just had our typical order of large wings in half spicy/half soy garlic. Mad for Chicken's the only place where I've found has perfect glassy skin even with the sauce on them. The spicy garlic had a nice kick to it without being over bearing and maintaining a good flavor and has been the best balance of crunch and sauciness to all the KFC places around. read more
