Ordered the lemongrass chick Bun, lemongrass chicken banhmi and summer roll for pick up. First thing was the price was steep so I would think the food would be held to a certain standard. $48.50 total for 2 dishes and one summer roll. Which I would've been fine with if not the rest of the problems that followed. Second was I didn't receive any utensils or napkins for take out. Lastly and the WORST PART my partner started eating her lemongrass Bun and after eating a couple bites and mixing all of it she saw that the chicken was RAW! My friend also ate the lemongrass chicken banhmi and found the same after a bite or two. I called immediately to ask what happened and the answer I got was "i cooked it myself" And that the chicken was in a brine. Regardless if it is in a brine,chicken should be cooked fully. I also mentioned I had eaten there before and I have never seen their chicken pink and their response was their supply chain is different now. I asked if they could compensate us for the 2 chicken dishes and they said no refunds. I said okay politely because what else could I do besides warn people not to waste their money here. $48 for an entrée, a bánh mì, and two coffees at a counter-service spot is steep, especially when the food takes a while and ends up being underwhelming. My bánh mì was bland, the coffee was forgettable, and nothing justified the price. The bigger issue was how an allergy concern was handled. My partner (someone who has eaten Vietnamese their entire life) ordered bún, which traditionally includes peanuts. Instead, it came topped with mixed nuts , something she's allergic to. When she tried to clarify, a man we assume was the owner's attempt to mitigate was brash and unaccommodating, responding along the lines of "I don't care if you've eaten Vietnamese food before. We do things differently. We're not a 'Vietnamese' restaurant and it's written in the menu". That attitude set the tone. She had to order a pho separately and pay out of pocket just to have something safe to eat. It was also subpar with the wrong noodles and broth that didn't resemble pho. If you want to position yourself as an unconventional or "not typical" Vietnamese spot, that's fine... but you can't have it both ways and then be dismissive or rude when customers are understandably confused. Based on our interaction and the way management responds to reviews, I don't expect this feedback to land anywhere productive. We won't be back. read more

Really solid Vietnamese food. The bahn mi was great. Next time, however, I'm going to get a rice bowls. The portion looked massive and the pickled veggies with the meet looked delicious. There is also such a wide selection of unique sauces to choose from(a lemongrass spicy mayo, coffee hoisin sauce, ect). It'd really fun. I was so happy I found this place ! This is not the usual area where I "search" for phos but it was so cold that I decided to find a pho spot. I walked by the restaurant around 3 times and not notice the restaurant I knew it's going to be good . The moment I walked i felt like I was in a sunny , airy , sun room with a lot of plants and cozy tables . It immediately put me at ease and calm. There are no waiting staff at locations as the person taking your order in front will bring your food to you . This is my first time trying chicken/ turkey and some other bird pho. It was so delicious that I would definitely go back again to try their banhmi. Please note that they don't serve beef soup base. It's what I called a specialized chicken pho spot . And they also got vegan choices as well. The soup was flavorful yet not too salty. The chickens / turkey (dark meat) were really good as well. This is a 4.5 - 3 if you are from Houston and a traditionalist and a 5 if you are looking for a creative viet place. So I rounded it to a 4.5. It is not traditionally viet food. But food is not bad. Their take on pho ga is more spiced and a different spice to a typical pho ga. So we definitely had a hard time getting used to. It is a very good bowl of chicken noodle soup though! And they give you half a chicken! We had so much chicken, I needed a box to just box the chicken back. The noodles is a slightly thicker version of the typical pho noodles. But, it is not the fresh northern thick pho noodles from places in Houston or Cali. Pork bun is tender pork belly (again not typical) with a carrot dressing (like Japanese carrot salad dressing) with various veges. They gave us pickled purple cabbage and another pickled cabbage which was also surpising. They had have a large assortment of sauces that you can top the bowl off with. I still finished it up without a problem but just know it's a good bowl, just not a typical viet pork bun. Either case, vibes were great. They charged me $21 for one of the worst Bahn Mi I ever had, food was bland chicken still pink undercooked stale bread and terrible sauce. I paid $8 for a lemongrass Bahn Mi earlier this week that was actually authentic and miles ahead of whatever this is. I know Brooklyn I'm getting gentrified but this is awful I guess these transplants will pay for overpriced bland food in some aesthetic looking restaraunt but I feel like I just wasted my money I didn't even want to finish it. as a second generation vietnamese woman, this is the most inauthentic "vietnamese" i've ever had (and the most expensive). the viet iced coffee was weak and watery, the bánh mì bland, and the pho broth glorified chicken stock with black pepper. aside from being someone who grew up eating real vietnamese meals made by my family and visiting countless vietnamese and "vietnamese style" restaurants, i happen to be allergic to cashew and pistachios. luckily, these nuts aren't used in vietnamese cuisine. unluckily, nhà mình is not particularly worried with what is or isn't vietnamese. i ordered a meal that traditionally includes peanuts, and did not realize until after it was ordered that this rendition included nuts to which i am allergic. i took my untouched bowl to the counter to return it and order something else, fully willing to pay for a new entree because it was my responsibility to read the menu rather than rely on my existing knowledge of vietnamese food. while i was speaking to the lady at the counter, some guy (maybe the owner? he didn't introduce himself) came to the counter and, with a distinctly agressive tone, asked me what the problem was. i explained that i hadn't expected the mixed nuts and wanted to order something else, and i was met with condescension. honestly, the mockery of viet cuisine that this place offers is worse than being called a racial slur read more

Since leaving the SF Bay Area, I've struggled to find Vietnamese food that compares, but today I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the absence of beef on their menu, I thoroughly enjoyed the Bird Cage Phở. The staff member said sometimes it has pheasant. Today it was a chicken and turkey mixture. It has flavor and is better than most places I've been to that either lacked flavor or tried to make the soup sweet. The shrimp summer roll, though smaller than most, was delicious with grilled shrimp instead of the usual boiled. The Nhà Mình soy milk was outstanding and brought back memories of home. I visited the mid-autumn festival in Bushwick and was hungry so I stumbled upon this restaurant which I believed was partnered with the festival. I ordered the iced Vietnamese coffee ($6) and the Vietnamese breakfast ($10). Vietnamese coffee was solid, nothing special. I was told the Vietnamese Breakfast would take 35-40 mins. We waited for our food for around 50-55 minutes and this is what we got. Also, the staff kind of forgot about us and asked us around the 40 minute mark what we ordered... They gave us a cold baguette that didn't melt in your mouth. 3 room temperature eggs that leaked on the bread, making it soggy. And, I didn't take a closer picture of this, but a hair in our Maggi sauce if you check the zoomed up screenshot from one of the other pictures. Turns out it's a grand representation of the gentrification and transplant experience of NYC. It's not geared towards being a Vietnamese culinary experience and the cuisine is underoverwhelming. Not to mention, the staff member serving us doesn't believe in body hygiene (deodorant), so we received an unpleasant whiff of onion armpit every time he leaned over us. All for natural deodorants and body odor, but perhaps not at the risk of making guests feel uncomfortable when they're eating. Phô dishes are chicken instead of the traditional beef. 3/5, good broth. Under seasoned meat, although fresh and healthy. Bun dish was yummy at 4/5, but also tasted like anything I can whip up at home. Not something I should've necessarily paid ~$16 for to eat outside. Beautiful decor; comfortable seating; eclectic mix of customers. The vibe drew in mostly Caucasian customers, not sure I'd say it's a diverse setting. As I said, it represents the restaurant itself. Not sure why I thought it'd be a good idea to get Vietnamese in Ridgewood. Service was slow and everything was incredibly dry. Quite possibly one of the worst banh mis I've ever had. The Berkshire pork in the banh mi and the banh xeo was overcooked and charred, the butter chicken in the rice bowl was tough, and the meat filling in the fried spring rolls was dry. I thought it was interesting that they have a lot of housemade sauces, but it's bc all the food needs as much help as possible. read more

I don't think this place is Vietnamese owned? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. If not, then why the Vietnamese restaurant name? I also notice there are a lot of typos and spelling errors in the Vietnamese descriptions that just make it sloppy and weird. Just keep the menu in English, it's ok we understand that you try. I got the New Yorker Banh Mi (the one with egg and bacon because the pork one was sold out), fried shrimp rolls (because the pork and crab egg rolls were sold out), and the Bird Cage Pho (just white meat of the chicken). As Vietnamese, we always pride ourself in adding colors and flavors in our food. A good indication of a good dish is the presentation, colorful, and things done the right way. My Banh Mi here looks boring, and there's not much to it really. I appreciate the effort in offering some vegan friendly options. For the pho, I like that they use the thicker fresh pho noodle, and the broth has a hint of the pho spices and some fat floating on top. Chicken pieces were over cooked, and it's typically done that way to feed little kids since they can't eat chicken with bones. Common knowledge is that if you use chicken meat in soup, you shouldn't overcook it. Here it's mushy, and my bowl felt more like a bowl of congee, not pho. It just feels like a bowl of pho made for a little kid. Some attention to details I also appreciate are the interior with many plants, decent vibe, lots of dipping sauces available so everyone can customize their own bowl/dish, and many options for drinks. Food overall was better than expected compared to some in the area I've tried, but I wouldn't go back. We took a really long time to decide what to get, but the staff was super patient with us and didnt rush at all. We ended up both getting Bahn Mi but next time I want to explore other things on this menu because I saw someone with a rice bowl and it looked soo good. Also, the sauces here are so unique and fun!! I wish there is zero star to give to this restaurant. The menu stated meat as pork of chef's choice . They serve pork meat in patties of ground meat includes Spam canned meat, not even a real piece of pork meat for 20 bucks a plate. So gross. Restaurant service is non existent. You have to come up to the counter to get the menu and order at the counter, pay up front. The Vietnamese sauce to be served with the dish is kept in dirty containers at a corner and you have to get it to put in to your dish and bring the container back to the corner your self. They expect you to scrape off the plates and bring it back to the counter. The sitting space is small with dirty wood floor. I really think the New York City department of Health should visit this place to check on their sanitation. Don't eat here in less you want to spend money and get sick eating fake Vietnamese food made with fake meat and you have to work on your meal when paying Manhattan price in Bushwick. read more

The restaurant itself was very "hipster" like. The decor was nice and modern. Clean restaurant. The food looks Instagram worthy, but the flavors.. were not it. The spring rolls were decent, crispy. The grill chicken rice noodle was pretty to look at. But It was bland. I tried adding all their sauces, it just didn't hit the spot. My boyfriend got their banh mi, he was not crazy about it either. With appetizers you can save half for home. Theres other vegetarian options like tofu and tempeh and I imagine it to be just as good with the same delicious bread and pickled daikon Crispy spring rolls - no self-respecting Vietnamese restaurant can be without this on their menu. 6 spring rolls served with microgreens, cilantro, lettuce. Very satisfying crunch on the skin. Would appreciate mint too along with the spring rolls but still excellent without! Breakfast Banh Xeo - (pic included) a gorgeous golden pancake made with eggs, crispy bacon, and melted sharp cheese! Served with lettuce, cilantro, and some microgreens and a spicy sour fish sauce. Just FYI this is a dish that is touch on the oily side (all banh xeo is) because it's fried in oil - but if you need something fried and satisfying after a long night out this is it!!! It's great to see a Vietnamese spot in this neighborhood and so close to home! Nha Minh (means our house in Vietnamese) has been open for about two weeks now or so... but they've been slinging some quality banh mi, saving me the need to head into the city for one when the craving arises. So far I've only ordered the classic (Vietnamese ham with pate) and the grilled shrimp, and both have tasted great. Their sandwiches are filling, and FYI for the shrimp they also put enough on so that each bite has one. Banh mi is one of my most favorite things to eat, and Nha Minh is up there with Banh Mi Saigon in Little Italy and Saigon Shack near NYU. My only gripe is that the food sometimes takes a little while to make, but the space makes up for it -- it's nice to chill in while you're waiting. Also they haven't been open in this space long yet. The bird cage pho broth was good but way too oily. The noodles were cooked just right and tasted good with the chicken and soup. The spring rolls in the vermicelli was very crunchy and tasty. However, the vermicelli came with a lot of pickled veggies and I also added a soy sauce egg. I usually prefer my vermicelli to be refreshing but the pickled veggies were overwhelming. The soy sauce egg was not good at all. It was too salty and the texture was way too mushy and grainy. The papaya salad was solid but way too many fried shallots that it took away from a lot of the flavor of the salad with the sauce. Drinks were not good and did not taste like anything but water. I personally did not have the best food experience here but the atmosphere and staff were very nice. pretty good vegan options! my friends and i came to eat here in between the "soju summerfest" event next door. i hope that the vegan duck sandwich actually uses vegan mayonnaise because i quite liked it. i also enjoyed the side of vegan broth, although it is not quite pho, it tastes like a savory mushroom flavor that is closer to pho than the typical "vegan pho" with carrots and broccoli. overall i would love to come back! read more
