Cozy place family business they're super friendly & laid back. I've read some negative views, I think there's 2 women by the cashier. I've never met another one. When I go there she's always sweet and calm I feel very comfortable eat in! Food (pho) comes out Quit Quickly (less than 10min) and large bowl, very clean dishes +++ it's very tasty! The Beef Pho: The portion size was very large and was a great value. Most places do not provide a large amount of beef, while they put a decent portion. When ordering for pickup, it comes deconstructed so the noodles do not get too soft. They were even generous enough to provide sauces, mint, and bean sprouts without me requesting it. I highly reccomend mixing and adding these components to your meal to enhance and change the flavor as you eat it. The broth on its own had an umami flavor with hints of cinnamon, pepper, and other spices--bound to take your taste buds on a trip. Steam Pork Buns: It took 15 minutes to make, but you can tell they were dedicated to putting in lots of tender love and care. This is the one thing I reccomend to order this with any and every meal from this place. It is a savory and delicate thin bun, packed with pork broth and meat. Pork pan fried dumpling: Unfortunately, this is the one thing I cannot reccomend. This felt very tough to bite and chew, had minimal flavor, and was very doughy. The image I posted shows just how doughy it is. Overall: The meal was very generous in portion sizes. I definitely could have shared what I ordered with another person (especially the pho it was huge). The meal hit the spot in terms of taste, flavor, texture, and variety. Their pho is delicious. They don't have the typical brisket, tripe kind of pho, unlike other Vietnamese restaurants I'm used to. Instead they offer grilled chicken, grilled pork, beef, and shrimp. It's pricy ($10-12) but for the portion, it's justified. Pho comes separately from the meat. Their Vietnamese spring roll is good for ($8) but not the best I've had. Everything is served in plastic btw. Also, don't expect to be served with water with your food. You have to ask for it. There is also no bathroom inside the restaurant. If you ask, they will let you use the restroom next door, since both restaurants share the same owner. Overall, the food is excellent. It's also cozy. Probably the most authentic Vietnamese place in Williamsburg right now. We got the grilled chicken bun, the beef cubes, spring rolls, and the Vietnamese hot and sour soup with fish/shrimp. Ordered delivery from seamless. Generally- everything was pretty good. The soup was ok. Needed more tamarind and fish sauce. I also despise cooked salmon. Traditionally, it's supposed to be made with catfish. Good crispiness with the spring rolls. It came with assorted pickled veggies. Would be better if they included aromatics. Typically, you wrap spring rolls in romaine and mint or Thai basil. The grilled chicken and the bun was delicious. They gave you enough fish sauce vinaigrette which is awesome. The steak cubes were delectable. Excited to try the pho although I wish they have the one that comes with all the exotic meats. The beef in the pho was sliced very thinly and delivered raw (as it's supposed to be), so I heated the broth through on the stove and poured it over everything and the beef cooked perfectly. By far the rudest staff I've ever encountered at a pho restaurant. My GF and I ordered pho at 9:45 to eat in the restaurant. The woman at the counter bagged it up to go and handed us our food at 10 pm. I stated that I wanted to eat it there and she said, "sorry we close at 10:30." Well I'm glad I finally ordered takeout because it was soooooo good. We ordered the chicken satay, shrimp summer rolls and beef and broccoli. The portions were very, very generous and well balanced between veggies and proteins. The chicken satay was perfect and came with two dipping sauces and delicious pickled vegetables. In SoCal's Little Saigon you'll find "pho so this" and "pho so that" and it is always followed by digits. That's bc "so" translates to "number"...soooooo it's always 1 for obvious reasons or 79, 82, 88...etc., because these were significant years for Vietnamese people seeking asylum in America. These were the OG pho joints before the days of top chef, instagram, and fusion this and that ruined everything. Pho from one of these places used to cost $5 for a huge bowl filled to the brim in the 90s and has only gone up a few dollars staying under $9-10 today (by the way, if you think this is cheap, banh mi is 3.50 and if you buy two, you get one free--yes folks....bread and cold cuts aren't supposed to be $14s for a single sandwich--and these are the current prices! They used to be a dollar less expensive! Anyway, I digress). 'So Pho 88' is likely not Vietnamese owned but it DOES NOT MATTER. The 'so pho' might be out of order or an attempt at being punny but that does not matter either. In the same vein of old-school OG Pho So yada yada places, So Pho 88 makes no frills, simple, delicious and affordable pho. I mean having a take out pho place this simple and good in this neighborhood is already a blessing but thank goodness for reasonable prices. Also in the same vein as OG pho places in SoCal, dude...get the pho. I read seamless reviews about how this person thinks this was bad and that was bland and the other is too fishy/salty. Yeah people--places with pho in their name--specialize in duh...anyway. Good pho, good, clear broth, fresh ingredients! Also--their pho noodle is PERFECT! Chewy, whole, not brittle like some fancy ass places who do all sorts of crazy crap to their broth and add huge pieces of bone marrow but get the damn noodles wrong with brittle, broken noodles or simply noodles that are way over cooked. I also like how they leave the cilantro whole....that's nice for people who need to pull it out. I like to chop it up all fine and put It back anyway so I just do that when it gets here. One thing I wish so pho 88 would do is have more variety with their beef cuts. Guys--look up pho dac biet or pho xe lua and you'll find so many different cuts of beef ranging from what you already serve to flank, brisket, tripe, tendon, and beef meatballs. At least maybe do us a favor and have a beef and beef meatballs option for now but please please please consider flank, tripe and tendon. Yum yum yum. Sorry to those who hate long reviews.
