Service is excellent for Chinese restaurant. Waiters do not give you attitude at all!! +++ Food presentation is excellent. See pictures. Conveniently located in the Arcadia Mall with plenty of parking underneath in basement parking lot, restaurant is accessible from parking via escalators. Deco - top notch. Nice chairs and tablescape. I wish waiters would explain each dish to us, what it is and how it's significant to that part of China!

Beautiful decor great service and awesome family combo meal deal!! We ordered the $108 meal with their famous peking duck and were wow'd with the feast!! It started with a light salad with soy-ginger dressing, then they brought out the spicy, fatty beef slices, Shanghai short ribs, garlic-sautéed broccoli, garlic shrimp vermicelli, and sticky-rice dessert. The Peking duck was served in two platters; each person got a small sauce plate. The Duck was sliced perfectly, and the meat was tender, as a good Peking duck should be! Since there were only two of us, we ended up taking most of the food home. The staff were so nice and helped us pack fresh Peking duck sauce. I would definitely visit again wth friends for the duck!

XIBEI serves an authentic Chinese cuisine. There are ample parking spots in Santa Anita Mall. The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere and relaxing vibes. It was clean and organized. They have indoor seating. The menu includes Oat noodles dumplings with choice of protein or with pickled vegetables, Pecking duck, seabass, simmered beef stew, pork ribs, soup, Chinese street food like shumai and Xiao Long Bao and more We ordered; - Oat "WOWO" Honeycomb shaped Oat noodles with sweet and sour sauce 5/5 - Stir Fried Oat Noodles With pickled vegetables 5/5 - Northern Style Flatbread 5/5 - Broccoli Garlic 5/5 Everything was flavorful and delicious. The staff were genuinely warm and friendly. The service was fast. We had such a great time. Definitely, I will be back to try more of their delicious dishes.

First time here and my dad had to call to reserve a seating and duck. The largest table they offer was for a party of 6, so we had to split into two tables of 8 because my mom wanted to order two separate combo sets. We can also order à la carte dishes on their iPads but we ordered combo meat sets. We got short rib combo and duck combo, one for each table. The combo came with a salad, soup, pork short ribs, garlic shrimp with vermicelli, kungpao chicken, broccoli, and the meat of your choice. Dessert was sticky rice with some sweet dipping sauce that only my dad liked. Rice must be ordered separately or we had to ask for bowls of rice. Salad had a nice tangy and sweet vinaigrette, mostly iceberg lettuce and various other vegetables. Soup was very mild and flavorful, it had tofu, Napa, mushrooms, and small shrimp. Broccoli was good, still had a crunch/bite with firmness and savory sauce. Garlic shrimp was strong with garlic but coupled with vermicelli balanced it well. Kung Pao chicken was sweet and slightly spicy, I ate the most of this dish as it was delicious. Short rib was great, very delicious, not the most tender short ribs, but was still great. I didn't try the dessert as i wanted to focus more on savory dishes. The only downside was the wait time for duck, we already finished our side of the combo while the other table was waiting. By the time it came out, they were pretty much done, so we ended up taking the rest home. Overall, a nice dinner for a small group of close friends or family. Maybe a good choice for large groups for their private rooms but it does require a minimum spend.

XiBei seems like a decent spot for Chinese food. I came here for dinner recently and tried one of their sets. The set with the duck is the most popular but they run out so order in advance if you want it. I couldn't order the duck so I opted for the set that featured beef instead. FOOD All of the dishes that were a part of the set were good. The value is good too. The set cost less than $100 and it was enough for four. RESTAURANT The inside looks pretty nice. A few of the tables on the side have the picnic table cloth that people have been mentioning. Apparently, all of the tables used to have this type of table cloth. Now, the only tables that have them are off to the side and aren't for customers to use. I thought it was funny when I saw these. SERVICE Staff were good here on my visit. They were attentive and the kitchen seemed really efficient. PARKING It Arcadia Mall parking so it's plentiful and free.

XiBei Signature Golden Millet Sticky Rice

Came here on a Sunday afternoon ~2pm without reservation. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated at a table, which was not bad. Once at the table, you place your order on a tablet. XiBei serves Northwestern Chinese cuisine. The ambiance is casual, but the aesthetics of the place was a bit weird with Chinese banners hanging from the ceiling and picnic table cloths that didn't match anything. We ordered the Beef Rib Value Set ($98), which comes with... 1. Xiebei Signature Salad (3.5/5) - the salad wasn't very fresh, but the dressing was light and vinegary 2. Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs (5/5) - the pork was tender and came off the bone easily. It is also marinated well in their sweet and sour sauce, which had a good balance of savoriness and honey-like sweetness 3. Mongolian Sliced Angus Beef Rib (5/5) - of all the dishes, this was probably my favorite. The beef was tender and smoky in flavor. I loved the cumin spice seasoning that you dip the beef it as it complimented the smokey flavor well 4. Scallion Grilled Whole Sea Bass (2.5/5) - the sea bass was very fishy and tasted like farm-raised fish. It was cooked well though as it was tender on the inside and super crispy on the outside. The chili pepper seasoning it was served with was good 5. Kung Pao Chicken (2/5) This has to got to be one of the worst Kung pao chicken we've ever had. The sauce was way too sweet and vinegary + it was not spicy at all. There was also an off-putting flavor to it that we couldn't quite pinpoint. 6. Stir-Fried Green Beans (2/5) The green beans were cooked well, but like the other vegetable dishes, this one also lacked any flavor or proper seasoning. 7. XiBei Signature Golden Millet Sticky Rice (4/5) - the sticky rice with millet was quite sticky, but the golden millets had a pleasant millet flavor. The majority of taste comes from the sweet osmanthus dipping sauce. ------------- Additional Items that we ordered ... 1. Beef & Onion Dumplings (4/5) These dumplings were huge. The dumpling skin was not good - too thin and easily ripped apart. The meat filling inside also fell apart too easily due to the large amount of onions mixed into the meat. The flavor was decent though - beefy and garlicky. 2. Stir-Fried Broccoli (2/5): The broccoli itself was fresh and steamed to perfection, but it lacked any flavor. We ordered the garlic option and there was no garlic or garlic fragrance whatsoever. 3. Dry Pot Cauliflower with Pork (3/5): There was nothing special about this dish that tantalized our taste buds. The cauliflower was cooked well, but lacked flavor as it did not pick-up the savory sauce that it's served in. The pork in the dish was good though as it was able to absorb the sauce. 4. Mongolian Cheese Bing Bread (5/5) Pleasantly doughy, chewy and cheesy 5. Oat "WoWo" Honeycomb shaped oat noodles with sweet & sour sauce (2/5) Sadly, they did not make this dish right. It is supposed to be easy to tear apart each honeycomb noodle so that you can dip it in the sauce, but their version is all stuck together. Instead of dipping the honeycomb noodle in the sauce, they douse the sauce over the honeycomb noodles. The sauce itself was not good - it literally just tasted like sweet and sour spaghetti sauce when it should really have a good spice fragrance to it. 6. Xibei Style Lamb Shumai (3.5/5) A unique dish where they turn traditional shumai, which usually contains pork into one that contains lamb meat. The shumai skin was doughy and thin, which was nice because it doesn't make you feel full quickly, but the lamb meat was very gamey 7. Northern Style Pork Bun (3/5) The Rou Ja Mou bun was not flaky and lacked that fragrant doughiness. The pork was ok, but the sauce it 's marinated in was too sweet. 8. Housemade Yogurt with Osmanthus Fermented Rice Soup (5/5) Beijing-style yogurt, which is tangy and not as thick as Greek Yogurt. It is topped with a good amount of osmanthus flavored fermented rice, which adds sweetness and the floral osmanthus flavor. I do recommend getting this as it's sure a treat.

I came for a birthday dinner with my family, and I have mixed feelings. First off, the food is very good, but it's not great. Considering the prices here, I expect to be fully wowed. Instead, I felt like the food was just good and the portion sizes were a little too small to justify the cost. The combo sets can be more cost-efficient, but even then, I don't think it's enough for 6 or more people. Maybe stick to the combo sets if you only have 4-5 people. The service and ambiance were also just okay as well. We were seated on the right side of the restaurant, seemingly apart from everyone else, and it was a weird vibe. The waiters also brought out our dishes in the wrong order, like dessert came before the entrees and duck, so it was kind of confusing. Personally, I think the food is worth a try once for the experience, but I don't think this will be a consistent go to type of place.

I first discovered this spot last November after a long shopping day. We only wanted some snacks for our drive home, but the host was so kind that she invited us and my dog inside to escape the wind. I was immediately struck by the hospitality and the unique decor, which felt like a cozy blend of Hong Kong street vibes and upscale elegance with its high ceilings and warm lighting. I promised the host I would return, and I finally did this past Sunday with my family. The service remains the strongest point of this restaurant. The same lady welcomed us back and the entire staff was incredibly attentive. The servers clear plates quickly and always greeted us with a genuine smile. It is the kind of place where you feel truly cared for. Regarding the food, I have had my fair share of Chinese cuisine and found the dishes here to be fairly average. Nothing particularly stood out to me as a reason to return for the taste alone, but the excellent service still makes it a solid choice for hosting elders or colleagues. I was a bit disappointed to see that they have completely changed the decor to a more simple look. I personally loved the vibrant banners and colorful tablecloths from before because they felt so unique, though I understand they likely changed it to suit popular taste. I truly hope the restaurant continues to thrive and perhaps brings the food quality up to the same high level as their wonderful service. Thank you to the team for a very pleasant experience.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing tons of ads on it on Instagram. Overall, the experience was pretty good, though it did start off a bit awkward. One older server was fairly rude, and with limited English, the interaction was confusing, he insisted we needed to be members to order, which turned out not to be true. Aside from that and some very mid-level service, the food itself was excellent. What I tried: Shredded Chicken Oat Noodles - Hearty and delicious. Simple, clean flavors done well. I really enjoyed this dish. (4.5/5) Mongolian Beef Rib-Bone Platter - The true winner of the night. Fall-off-the-bone tender, incredibly flavorful. Easily the best bone-in beef I've had. (5/5) Stir-Fried Vegetables - A bit pricey at $18, but it tasted good. My mother-in-law thought it was slightly salty, but I personally liked it. (4/5) XiBei Signature Chilled Golden Millet Sticky Rice - A very unique dessert. Light, interesting, and definitely worth trying. (4.5/5) Overall, what started as a strange and slightly frustrating experience turned into a solid meal thanks to the great food and nice ambiance. It was likely a one-off service issue since 3 out of the 4 servers we interacted with were great, but it only takes one to affect the mood. Still, the food made it worth the visit.

My partner wanted to treat his brother to a nice birthday meal. We gathered both families and a close family friend to lunch. We didn't realize, until we got there, they don't have duck for lunch. Only dinner. It's not even made in house. We had to pick the beef rib set meal. The meal came with millet cake with osmanthus winter melon dip, sweet n sour pork ribs, chicken broth with tofu, signature salad, Mongolian sliced beef rib, scallion grilled sea bass, kung pao chicken, and green beans. Sweet n sour pork ribs - delicious. Just enough sweet n sour flavors. Little bites though. Green beans - crispy and not overly flavored. Great dish. Scallion grilled sea bass - luckily, a little spicy with the spices on top. Just spicy enough for my taste. Fish also didn't have a lot of bones which is a relief for my partner Kung pao chicken - well seasoned and had crunchy peanuts that really paired well Mongolian sliced beef - tender and juicy but the pickled vegetables looked random to me Millet cake - was just sweet enough. Nice palette cleanser but they served this before the beef. Timing was off. I did not get a chance to try the salad and the tofu soup. They were busily eaten by other people at the table. Also ordered the sour fish soup - delicious but a bit spicy. I wish it wasn't spicy and my younger son didn't like it even though he likes pickles and fish. Too spicy for him. Ordered oat wow noodles. It can be refreshing with the tomato ragu on top. It's like a Asian reinterpretation of Italian pasta. Not bad. Agree with other reviews about the gingham tablecloths. Were they on sale? It doesn't match at all. Luckily our table didn't have any tablecloths. The built in lazy Susan was impressive. Where did they order it or have it built? I would buy one.

I'm not sure why everyone is giving five star reviews because my experience here was lack luster. The decor inside is a mix of the old restaurant which was high end expensive Chinese food to this new restaurant which looks like picnic tables with red and white checker tablecloths. We got the value set A which was xibei signature salad, chicken broth with tofu, mongolian beef rib bone platter and tagine braised noodles. The salad was tasty and the dressing was great but it was totally not what I expected. Yes its name said salad but it totally threw me off to be served something like this in a Chinese restaurant. The chicken broth was tasty and had a lot of pepper in it but that was the only dish we liked. The Mongolian beef rib was dry and flavorless unless you dip it in the seasoning provided. The tagine braised noodles was bland and had no flavor. I'm never one for wasting food but this is one place we left everything we didn't eat behind. Overall the combination was confusing to say the least. Base on this experience, it's a one and done for me.

XiBei is in the upper floor outdoors of the Santa Anita mall. We found parking near Nordstrom and walked up the outside stairs. I remember walking more past Daiso, and it's on the right. My friend made reservations here and ordered the duck set menu $98 (4-6 people) ahead of time. Even after we got seated, the duck still took 40 minutes to come out. We were told that a private room reservation requires a minimum $300 spend. The set menu is easy for a group, so we chose the duck one that says feeds 4-6 people. But we think it wasn't enough food for 6 adults. We ordered additional items. Duck Set menu $98 included: -xibei signature salad: this had a tad spice to it, I thought. Mostly iceberg lettuce w good dressing -fish filet w pickled mustard greens: fish is sea bass. Good flavor but could have been stronger -stir fried green beans: nice and crunchy! This dish came out first -whole pecking duck: I really enjoyed this. It was the star of the show. -lamb soup: very tasty. One server said they couldn't add soup, but another one did. It definitely isn't enough soup for 6 people. -xibei chills sticky rice (6pc): this felt like dessert because they brought it out last Additional items we tried: -grilled lamb skewers (3pc) $10: tell them no spicy if you don't want it spicy. Each skewer had a good amount of meat. It was worth it. -Mongolian lamb $25: came out on a small sizzling plate. Very flavorful like cumin. One of the better dishes of the meal. -oat "wowo" noodles $23: uhhhh it looked interesting since it's the house special dish. But I wouldn't get it again. It's like grainy pasta in tomato sauce that got cold real quick. Tea is charged $2 per person. Service was exceptionally good because the lady basically attended to us (and seemed like us only) the entire night. Plenty of parking at the mall. Remember where you parked so you can get back to it in a timely manner. Restrooms available. Credit card/tap accepted. No outdoor dining. The plaid red and white tablecloths threw me off because they seemed so casual compared to the rest of the Asian decor.

We originally came for the duck value combo, but we didn't realize we had to order in advance. We pivoted to the sweet and sour fish combo. We were a bit disappointed at first, but we received our food quickly. The broccoli was the first dish, which tasted pretty standard. We then received a cold noodle chicken dish; not having tried it before, we were surprised that the noodles had a vinegar marinade. But with the vegetables mixed together - the starchy noodles, edamame, and chicken balanced out the acidity in the marinade. Then came the sweet and sour fish, which had excellent plating. The taste matched the appearance. The fish was lightly fried, flaky, and tender. It was paired well with the sauce. For us it was the highlight of the combo and we would order it again just for the fish. We also received glazed wings, which had a strong cumin flavor and smell. If you're into cumin, you'd like these wings. The texture on the outside was crispy, while the inside was juicy. Finally, after we finished our entrees, they brought out the sticky rice dessert. It came with a sweet syrup dipping sauce. The rice was indeed extremely sticky, and had an interesting texture with millet on top. The flavor of the sticky rice itself was quite neutral and had minimal sweetness, but when paired with the dipping sauce, it turned into a pleasant dessert. Overall, we thought the meal tasted great and had great value. We would certainly come back to try the other combo sets. Being located in the shops at Santa Anita, this place is easy to access and there was plenty of parking. read more

My auntie wanted to try a new restaurant today so we came to Xibei. as you walk in, you see a beautiful decorated restaurant with a chill vibe. We quickly ordered some items: - Roast Duck (half portion) - Northern Style Pork Bun - XIBEI SIGNATURE Chilled Wheat Noodles With House Sauce - Kung Pao Chicken - Grilled Beef Skewers (3pc) - Grilled Lamb Skewers (3pc) - Mongolian Beef Rib-Bone Platter (2EA) - Oat "WoWo" (Honeycomb Shaped) Oat Noodles - Oat LuoLuo (Stir-Fried Oat Noodles W Beef) - XIBEI Style Shumai (Beef)(3pc) - Stir-Fried Pointed Cabbage W Chili Our favorite were the Roast Duck (with their thin crepe wrap), Northern Style Pork Bun, Oat LuoLuo (Stir-Fried Oat Noodles W Beef), Kung Pao Chicken (wished it was a little sweet and more spicy), Northern Style Pork Bun, and Stir-Fried Pointed Cabbage W Chili. We would have like the dishes more if the staff let us know which sauce went with which dish because it definitely changed the flavor profile of the dish (for example the Mongolian Beef Rib-Bone Platter and the XIBEI Style Shumai (Beef). The service was excellent and their yogurt and fruit teas were refresh. They are also currently giving away coupons for return visits so check them out if you're in the Santa Anita mall. read more

Xibei is a new restaurant in the Santa Anita mall that took over Meizhou Dongpo. I had not heard of it before but there are apparently over 300 restaurants in China with the first shop originating in Inner Mongolia in 1988. Upon looking at the menu, I noticed it was definitely not your typical Chinese cuisine that you see in SGV restaurants. A lot of items had some element of oat in it - "oat wowo, oat noodles, oat dumplings"; so naturally we had to order something with oat! We ordered the oat wowo, oat dumplings, lamb shumai, Peking duck, lamb shank (free from instagram game!), and the chilled millet sticky rice. My favorite was the chilled millet sticky rice - it had the texture of zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) and it had a delightful subtly sweet/flowery honey-like sauce on it. Next favorite was the Peking duck - though it was a bit pricey for the half portion at $52. My husband really enjoyed the oat dishes especially the oat wowo - the texture of the noodles and dumpling wrapper made with oat had a nice chew and a subtle earthy flavor which made it unique! I would recommend this restaurant as there's nothing really like it (yet!) in the area and the quality of the food is good. I would come again to try out some other dishes! This is our sixth time coming here. The $99 roast duck combo is something you definitely don't want to miss. It includes a whole roast duck, lamb leg soup, pickled cabbage fish, dry-fried green beans, and even a dessert after the meal. As always, we also love their scallion-flavored grilled fish. It's crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly sweet and savory. At just $36, it's an amazing value. The ingredients are always very fresh. As long as they keep offering this combo, we'll definitely keep coming back. Such a great deal! read more

Oh my goodness! The amount of food you get for $98 is insane! The food here is delicious and the service is even better. I still cannot believe how much food showed up for $98. They were out of duck so we ordered the beef combo and were not disappointed. My favorite was the jellyfish salad, kung pao chicken and the tofu soup. Will definitely come back to try the duck. read more

Extremely impressed by XiBei! Came here on a Saturday night for dinner about a week and a half ago and had a great experience. The food was truly top notch. Between the 8 of us, we ordered the Whole Peking Duck, Mongolian Beef Ribs, Stir-Fried Green Beans, Cumin Lamb, Beef Stew, Shumai, Sautéed Mushroom, Cabbage, Oat "Wowo," and more. While every dish was delicious, my favorites were probably the duck, beef stew, and oat wowo. I would say XiBei is one of the absolute best Chinese restaurants I've been to in/around Los Angeles. This place is great! We got the 98 dollar bundle (lamb ribs) which is similar to what kind of deal you would get in China. The food was overall very tasty and not overly salty. The portions were good for 3 adults. Service was also pretty nice and staff is attentive. The decoration is also very pretty. The dishes were a nice tasteful foray into northern Xinjiang cuisine. Definitely recommend the Golden Millet Sticky Rice as a sweet treat to round out the meal! The service was relatively quick and ambiance definitely was more of a food court kind of vibe with lots of families but lighting was nice overall! They have some great sets / combos including options for kids which is awesome. We'll be back in the future for their Peking duck and Oat wow when they aren't as busy! Xibei is a Northern Chinese restaurant located on the second floor, external restaurant area near Macys in the Santa Anita Mall. It's in a cavernous facility with super high ceilings, large ceiling-high shelves, and beautiful modern interior. The red and white checkered picnic table covers however don't match the decor. Maybe go with a dark red table cloth?!? Service is polite and helpful with English, Mandarin and Cantonese speakers. Xibei also has numerous specials and the half Peking Duck Special for $84 that easily feeds four is a tasty good deal. I would definitely do again. Where else can you eat Peking Duck along with Salad, Soup, and Garlic Shrimp Glass Noodles in a Clay Pot for $21 a person!?! We also had their Mongolian Beef Bones, 2 bones for $17. Food Evaluation for Three Mains: - Peking Duck, the skin is crispy and expertly carved into small slices with skin & meat, and displayed in a beautiful mound. I must commend the knife skills of the carver. Also the duck was not oily, a similar place has larger slices with double fried skin that is much oilier. Xibei's version is less greasy and beautifully plated. 10 steamed oat skins come with the half duck order. The oat skins are delicate and seem healthier than the more common flour-based skins. - Mongolian Beef Bones, two large braised bones accompanied by cumin spices and a pickled garnish. Cut the meat off the bone and eat it while it's hot. Tastes a little like Cantonese Beef Stew with a slightly sweet, anise, flavor. Tasty and plenty of meat off two ribs to share for four people. Dip in the cumin for a spicier kick. - Garlic Shrimp Glass Noodles in a Clay Pot, six shrimp with cloves of garlic. I still taste the garlic in my mouth the next day. But I love garlic. Overall, I will go back for the Half Duck Combo Special which is a bargain for four people. Service is good with polite and helpful workers.... They cleared away the rib bones after we cut off the meat, announced each dish in Mandarin when brought to the table, and boxed up our leftovers for us. Good job! read more

My mom and I visited Xibei to try their Northwestern Chinese cuisine, and we really enjoyed the experience. We ordered the half-size peking duck, stir-fried green beans, xibei-style beef shumai, crispy fried golden millet with molten brown sugar, and sweet & sour pork ribs and everything tasted great. The dessert was our favorite highlight: the crispy fried golden millet came piping hot with a gooey brown sugar center and was absolutely delicious. The green beans were another standout, perfectly cooked with a satisfying crunch and packed with flavor. The peking duck was especially interesting, as one of the accompanying sauces was yogurt with sugar, which was something I'd never had with duck before. This review is for their AYCE as I've only had their buffet! On weekdays, it is $12 from noon-230pm and $16 for dinner 530-730pm for adults. I came on a weekday evening for their dinner buffet and for the price, I can't complain. They only have about ~10 dishes but they're all solid. I am not a particularly picky eater but I don't eat red meat and I was still able to eat majority of the food! Some buffet items include: tomato egg, stir fry(?) baby potatoes in satay sauce, cucumber salad, wood ear mushroom salad, egg fried rice, eggplant, kung pao chicken and string beans, and more. They keep the food on hot plates and it's refilled really often. It reminds me of Chinese comfort food like when you go to eat with your family with the spinning glass thing in the middle of the big table (I hope you know what I am referring to). Those who opt for the ayce sit in a particular section close to the buffet items, away from those who are dining ale cart. I came here for the $12 lunch buffet. I dont recommend it, and in fact i would advocate for the restaurant to get rid of it completely because of the extra chaos it brings. Because of the amount of people who come for the buffet, you are expected to share large tables with other strangers. Our first table refused to let us sit, claiming that they were saving seats for their friends. We had to ask the waiters to redirect us to a separate table, while the waiters had to stop people from charging into the buffet without being directed to their assigned seating area first. The buffet is pretty small (2 side dishes, 2 types of rice, 6 entrees, and soup), so you have a crowd of people around the only buffet area. Originally only one side of the restaurant was assigned to be for buffet eaters only, but eventually it took up the entire restaurant. The servers are trying their best to manage the traffic, but it is clear that they are struggling to keep up refilling the food, clearing the tables, and stocking the cutlery/clean dishes and trays again. This is one of the rare occasions where i dont think hiring more people would help, because it would only crowd the dining area further. Based on the other reviews, it seems that the ala carte option is the better option to eat for a more relaxed dining experience. read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Xibei in Arcadia. Both the quality and portion size of the dishes were shockingly poor. The food tasted and felt like pre-made or reheated products rather than freshly prepared meals, which is simply unacceptable at these price levels. The portion sizes were almost laughably small. It genuinely felt like customers are forced to order multiple dishes just to feel remotely full. This approach might temporarily increase the bill, but it certainly does not build long-term customer loyalty -- especially in a competitive market like Arcadia. Service was equally disappointing. During our entire meal, staff checked on us only twice. We eventually had to get up and retrieve utensils ourselves. For a restaurant charging premium prices, this level of service is hard to justify. To make matters worse, the pricing is significantly higher than comparable restaurants in the area, yet the experience falls far below market standards. In a competitive dining market, restaurants need to deliver value, quality, and service. Unfortunately, this place fails on all three. What's also strange is that there appear to be many one-star reviews when you sort by rating, yet Yelp shows only one one-star review reflected in the overall rating count. If you actually sort the reviews, you can clearly see numerous one-star experiences that are not being included in the rating calculation. This discrepancy seems to be one of the main reasons the restaurant is still showing a 4.6 overall score. Customers deserve transparency, and the visible rating does not seem to accurately reflect the full range of customer experiences. read more

Our group of four visited Xibei for an early dinner since it just opened recently. We didn't know much about its popularity in China or what they're known for, so we were thankful their menu had pictures--that's when the hunger really kicked in. We ordered a mix of dishes to share: Oat Wowo, cucumber salad, zucchini & shrimp dumplings, lamb dumplings, steamed oat dumplings, grilled whole sea bass, stir-fried pointed cabbage, sautéed mushrooms, and black pepper Angus beef cubes. Clearly, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! We even scored a complimentary Mongolian cheese bing by playing their Instagram guessing game. The highlights for us were definitely the dumplings and all the veggie/mushroom dishes. The sea bass was fresh and flavorful but extremely bony, so be cautious if dining with kids. The Oat Wowo was beautiful to look at with a tasty sauce, though the pasta itself was hard and chewy--not quite my favorite. Since it replaced Dongpo, I'd say prices here feel even higher. They did gave us $20 vouchers to use within 30 days, so we'll see if I can squeeze in another visit before they expire. read more

Everything was flavorful, without relying on just an overwhelming amount of salt, and we really enjoyed the green beans that seemed to be cooked in fermented bean paste. This was one of the most frustrating dining experiences I've had. We dined at Xibei in Arcadia today and had pre-ordered the Peking Duck set by phone one day in advance. During the call, the restaurant clearly told us that the duck would be ready at 12:00 PM. I asked if arriving at 11:30 was okay, and the manager explicitly said no, telling us to come at 12:00 instead. She also stated that the duck would be held for 15 minutes, and if we did not arrive by 12:15, it would not be reserved anymore. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:08 PM, well within the promised time window, only to be told that our reserved Peking Duck was already gone and had been given to someone else. They then told us we would have to wait for the next batch, which wouldn't be ready until 12:45 PM. What is the point of making a phone reservation if the restaurant does not honor it? If it's truly first-come, first-served, then why even allow pre-orders at all? The phone conversation was very clear: the duck was reserved until 12:15. We arrived on time, yet it was still given away. The restaurant was busy, and it was obvious they simply gave our duck to another table that arrived earlier. To make matters worse, we were dining with a 6-month-old baby, yet the restaurant showed no flexibility or accountability. Instead of apologizing, the manager kept arguing and insisted it was the customer's fault, which is completely unreasonable given that we followed their instructions exactly. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic respect for reservations is unacceptable. A restaurant should honor its own promises. If management cannot do that, it reflects very poorly on how the place is run. Extremely disappointed. I would not recommend this location. read more

Yesterday when I visited, I initially wanted to order a set that included roast duck. However, after we arrived at the counter, the staff at the entrance told us that we could not order any set with roast duck because it was sold out, and that we could only order a set without it. About twenty minutes later, after we had already placed our order, I heard the same staff member at the entrance taking an order for another customer that included roast duck. When I asked about this, I was told that the duck had just arrived during those twenty minutes. This left me feeling confused. I'm not sure whether the roast duck is prepared off-site and delivered ready to serve, or if it is made fresh on location within such a short time. Either way, the inconsistency in communication was confusing and disappointing, especially since we were explicitly told earlier that it was unavailable. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes of better clarity and consistency for future customers. read more

Really enjoyed our meal at Xibei! The food was delicious across the board -- you can tell the ingredients are fresh and everything is well prepared. Waited about 30 minutes. Noticed that there are small tables ready, but the manager kept paying attention to large parties. I'm pretty observant and I noticed that she let a family in that just arrived. Connections maybe?? Also a party of two arrived but we were sat down at the same time because the finally let us in when the tables were finished a long time ago!!! Enough ranting. I'm here to give you a honest review of the food. Food is not bad. Pretty typical chinese food you can find elsewhere where cheaper. I got the mushroom Soup and it was good. The pepper pork belly was alright. I also got the mapo tofu and garlic shrimp vermicelli. Both were pretty good. All in all, it is on the pricier side but food is good. 3stars overall experience. We tried the buffet lunch here recently, and while the price was affordable, the food selection felt pretty limited. This was especially true for kids' options, as most dishes were spicy. My son, unfortunately, only had a handful of things he could eat: egg fried rice, soup, fried fish with brown sauce, and water. A significant issue was the slow refilling of the buffet trays. We often found the food was completely gone and had to wait for it to be brought out, which wasn't ideal. We were also seated at a large table shared with other guests, which I wasn't really a fan of. Disappointing Experience - Not Worth the Price We dined at Xibei as a party of 14 and were extremely disappointed. The service was poor and unorganized, especially for a large group. Food portions were very small, the presentation was unimpressive, and overall the quality did not match the high price point at all. For a private dining menu, we expected much better value and attention, but it felt far from a premium experience. Despite being in a prominent mall location, the ambiance was shockingly basic--red and white checkered plastic tablecloths made it feel more like a picnic than a restaurant. We tried this place out after they posted a Peking duck special. Currently they are running a special for 4-6 people set menu for $98 which includes a full Peking duck. The duck was delicious with a crispy skin and tender and juicy duck meat. The skin wrapper was thin and they gave ample condiments with hoisin sauce, cucumbers and green onions. Honestly probably the best duck I've had in a while. The service was great and the staff was attentive. The other dishes were amazing as well. Highly recommend the lamb shank soup, chili chicken and the string beans. They also have other special menu items including seafood items not on the regular menu. read more

I had a wonderful experience here. The environment is beautiful, spacious, and very clean, with thoughtfully designed interiors that make the space feel warm and inviting.
