DON'T DO IT.
But if you're like me, you don't have any other option. I've been with them for 3 years. If I had a dragonglass arrow for every time I've had to talk to customer service, I could've killed all the white walkers by now and Westeros could sleep easy.
Everyone who has Comcast expects bad/intermittent internet connections and 1+ hours on the phone, but I also experienced these things:
1) Originally I rented a modem from them for $10/month. They sent me two modems by accident. I called to inform them, and they said they had no record of it, and as such I would have to pay to ship it back myself.
2) They got my apartment # wrong on my account, and when I called to tell them about it, they said they couldn't fix it and they would have to close and reopen my account. (Later, when I talked to someone else on the phone, she said "I can't access your information farther back, because you've moved recently." I didn't move to the apartment across the hall! You just wrote down the wrong info and couldn't fix it!
3) RECENTLY, AND MOST ANNOYINGLY, I decided to be a Breaker of Chains and canceled my account on April 27 online. I received an email on April 27 saying my account was canceled and that they were hopeful that they could convince me to return. Because I never trust Comcast, I called on May 3 to confirm that my account was canceled. Woman on the phone nicely said that they had all the info about my account being canceled and that I would not be charged any longer. I asked the same question three times, as if talking to a child (which Comcast customer service essentially is), and each time she confirmed.
But lo and behold, when I checked my credit card statement-- there is the Comcast bill! So I checked my account which is still fully active and still fully billing me. I tried to chat with a Comcast rep online. After 10 minutes of explaining all of this, "Jevin" tells me that he is sorry but can't do anything and I have to call Comcast. What's the point of having a chat option if you have to call anyway?? I called the direct line he gave me, but they transferred me twice to someone else.
That 3rd person told me that they never canceled my account because there is a Comcast modem still rented to me and I haven't returned it. I said no (by this time I had stopped renting and used my own modem) and she said they've been charging me for it for a year (which is my own stupidity for not realizing). We went around in circles and I said that I had returned my Comcast modem a year ago at the store and she said that unless I have the receipt there is no way to prove that. I said, can't you see that the Internet isn't coming through a Comcast modem?? I had had to call Comcast to configure my new, non-Comcast modem-- didn't they have a record of that? She said no. She said that they could see all my data usage and it was through a Comcast modem.
After an hour of going back and forth, she said "No, we know you have a Comcast modem, it's serial number CC...etc." I was looking at my own modem at this point, and I realized that my Arris SurfBoard modem had the serial number she was reading. This whole time they thought my modem was a Comcast modem-- but it wasn't. Someone screwed up when they reconfigured my Internet, and they thought it was a Comcast model. Had I not done this, not only would my Internet not have been disconnected, but I would have been charged for a lost Comcast modem THAT NEVER EXISTED. How can they not keep better track of what they do? Also, why did the woman I talk to on May 3 never tell me any of this? Why did Comcast not tell me that nothing had been disconnected?
Of course, my Yelp novel won't change anything. Comcast has a monopoly and none of us peons can change anything. MHEESA HELP US read more
