Samuel was our guide on our private tour. He was really easy to communicate with prior to our tour on a place to meet, etc. First, we went in August. Bring every layer you have. Being from TX we were freezing. I can't imagine the people that do this in the winter. They are stronger souls than I. Samuel is great at explaining everything. He is also extremely patience and understanding. We had my 84 year old father with us and some of his questions were a bit silly but Samuel didn't mind them. My father's mobility is an issue that didn't bother Samuel he did his best to help him. My father also got very cold and again Samuel went with the flow. There is a ladder involved to see a few of the items. If you can climb a few stairs this shouldn't be an issue for you. There is hot chocolate or apple cider to drink. Samuel also takes a photo of you in front of the telescope at the end. He then emails you the photo the next day. He also emailed us everything we had seen so my father could tell his friends all about it. Overall a lovely experience. I highly recommend it. We set up in the Antelope Flats area of the Grand Teton National Park. It was so dark and magical. We even heard coyotes. I enjoyed talking to Samuel about his business as well as the stars and was extremely grateful he was so kind to my father. Make time to do this activity you will not regret it. read more

My family visited Jackson last week and did the tour with Wyoming Stargazing. We very much enjoyed the experience! While I do wish no cars had driven past us I can say it certainly didn't ruin the experience. If your coming with the idea of attempting astrophotography the cars will mess you up! We were shown many things that we simply couldn't have identified on our own. Antares really suprised me with how firey it was and we look for it in the night sky now everytime we're out. We did this the first night in Wyoming and it was amazing. Our guide was Frank and she was able to tell us the history of some stars and stories about the constellations. We were tired being as we were running on little to no sleep that day, but she still made it a great experience. We saw the Milky Way, some of the brightest stars, the whirlpool galaxy, and more. We planned to go stargazing so that the moon was about 10% illuminated. This allowed us to view the moon at the start of the night and the rest of the viewable galaxy as the moon went behind the Teton mountains. We are from Los Angeles, and went early July. Bring more layers than you think you will need, it gets cold. Our tour guide was Hannah, and treated us so well. She taught us a whole lot and straightened out some myths for us. It was so nice to have someone that loved what they do share their knowledge with us. Totally worth it to do this once in your life while it's still an option. read more

Great experience! It was cold but they provided blankets and hot chocolate/cider. Don't go expecting the images in the telescope to look like a science textbook, but you're still going to see some cool stuff. I live outside a major city so I saw way more stars than I normally do, and it was one of the clearest views I've ever had of the Milky Way. Highly recommend! read more

The pickup at the hotel was about 15 minutes late. I can understand how that can happen since we were the last hotel on the route. Ashley was terrific in her enthusiastic descriptions of what we were seeing. The bad news is the location is not far from town on a busy road. There was a constant stream of cars with high beams passing the entire time and the glow from the nearby airport and town ruined the experience. I was expecting to see something more like this: https://www.nps.gov/dino/planyourvisit/stargazing.htm but was sorely disappointed. I would have much rather spent more time in the van to get to a suitable location. All in all a waste of time and money. read more

Total rip off!!! They don't go "into the Tetons". They pulled us right next to the entrance to the park, two minutes from our hotel, and right off the road so cars were passing by constantly. It was super distracting and blinding. Also if you are expecting a high powered telescope, you are out of luck. The one they use is similar to the one we have at home but they were missing the proper objectives and filters. Also they had to manually move the telescope because they forgot a cord?! For $100 a person I would think you would check that. The guides were knowledgeable and did a great job, but I would have been happier if the trip was half the price. I am completely at a loss for words and will be calling to ask for a refund. It was completely cloudy as well, which on their website and everything else, we were promised a reschedule if that happened. Even my hotel lobby weather was predicting poor visibility. Shame because we were really looking forward to this stargazing trip. read more

One of the highlights on our trip. We had a picture perfect night and it was just magnificent what we could see with the naked eye, let alone what we could see through the telescope. I learned so much. Our guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable. Clearly loved what he did for a living and sharing that joy. A great experience, in a great place. We went to the white conical planetarium at the base of Snow King resort for the star show and brief movie. It is an unknown gem, a great quiet place to lie back and enjoy the mystery and science of the night sky, constellations, planets, moons, galactic history, etc. Samuel was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, and happy to pause to answer our questions. read more

Fabulous experience. Our tour guides picked us up right on time and we went to a dark place in the national forest and they set up the equipment. We were able to start looking at stars and planets to get an idea of where we were in space through the ipad. Once the telescope got set up we started looking through and listening to the science of the stars, some mythology behind them and history of Galileo. Great experience for any age and interest level of stars. read more

Great for anyone who is interested learning about the universe through Wyoming's great night sky. Our guide was very friendly and eager to answer to all questions. His knowledge in astronomy (as well as the surrounding area of Teton National Park and Jackson Hole) made this a very entertaining and educational excursion. It was a frigid evening but we'd been advised to dress warmly. Our guide provided thick woolen blankets and hot drinks. We were given iPads with a cool stargazing map app to pass the time while he set up the huge telescope. The moon was nearly full, which diminishes the visibility of the stars a bit, however we had a view of the glorious moonlit, snowy Teton mountains. Once the clouds parted we saw amazing views of the full moon, Sirius, distant galaxies and a green nebula! We learned loads and saw spectacular aspects of the sky! read more

THE ALTITUDE IS HIGH AND THE STANDARD IS HIGHER!! Our daughter chose Jackson Hole, WY for her graduation trip. She wanted to experience the beauty of the mountains and participate in a star gazing event with dark skies and a high altitude where viewing would be optimal. We booked a private program so that she could maximize the time learning and exploring. We experienced a glitch on the night of our scheduled program. We were promptly contacted by management the following morning and were offered a solution to the issue. It was then that we learned just how high the standard for quality customer service is at Wyoming Stargazing. They went above and beyond to ensure an amazing experience!! Viewing stars, planets, galaxies, and other deep space objects through the telescope was a real treat. The passion for educating was evident on multiple levels. We learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Not only is it worth every penny, you can feel good about the dollars you are spending as you will be supporting a non-profit organization that excels in public outreach programs. This is a must do while in the Jackson Hole area. It was the highlight of our trip. read more

My fiance and I did a private Stargazing session last week while visiting Jackson Hole. I was hesitant to book this experience because I knew it was going to be cold, but we decided to pack super warm clothes and go for it anyway. Ashley was our guide for the night and she was AMAZING. We were picked up promptly at our hotel and driven to a location near the town of Kelly, WY inside of Grand Teton National Park. We stopped at a pullout along Lower Gros Ventre Rd (I think), and this is where Ashley set everything up for us. My only complaint would be that a few cars passed during our time (the road isn't busy but it is definitely traveled), and I wished we were in a more remote location... but the experience was still excellent. Ashley was able to answer ALL of our questions (and we had a lot). She is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and impressive - as well as extremely friendly. Through the telescope we were able to see a lot of cool things - including my favorite, Saturn's Rings (so cool!). Neither of us have taken an course in Astronomy before, and this was like a private class. Both looking through the telescope and viewing stars with the naked eye, we learned A LOT of really cool things. Ashley had a laser pointer which was very helpful to point out specific things she was talking about. Wyoming Stargazing also provided camping chairs, blankets, Hot Hands hand warmers, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and granola bars. All a great touch! We spent about 2.5 - 3 hours stargazing before deciding we were cold/tired and packing it up. We arrived back to our hotel just before 11pm. This experience was definitely worth it! Thank you Wyoming Stargazing and Ashley for an amazing time! Also, thank you Samuel for returning our hat that we had left behind in the car!! read more

So, we traveled all the way to Jackson Hole Wyoming from the east coast and were excited to go stargazing. The mountains and skies are so beautiful! My youngest daughter was particularly thrilled and looking forward to this activity. Unfortunately, our two guides were recent college grads who couldn't make either of their telescopes work, despite the fact that we arrived to our viewing spot earlier than planned and with full light, and they spent the evening softly arguing and disagreeing with one another. There was one guide who was very apologetic, but one telescope wouldn't work because the batteries were out. The other telescope was expensive and large and they didn't know how to put it together. After we stood around in a good natured fashion for a couple of hours, they gave up. The two, a male and a female guide, continued to bicker with one another on the way home and disagreed about star facts and other scientific matters. I think the two guides were actually knowledgeable but they didn't just choose to make the best of a disappointing situation and show us what there was to see with the naked eye. They just argued and gave up. My daughter was not the only one disappointed. There was a small elementary age child in the other family with us who was also very sad that these two guides couldn't explain anything. I'm giving them two stars because the guides were young and inexperienced and need to learn what to do. They were very polite to us.... offered us hot chocolate and tea. The company quickly and easily refunded the cost of the trip. There was also a storm in the distance that disappeared while we were still waiting, but I think it had made out guides nervous. My suggestion is to try a company with guides who know more about their equipment and perhaps have had more experience. read more

What a fun and educational way to spend an evening in Jackson Hole. Our experience with Wyoming Stargazing was first rate -- everything from making the reservation all the way through to being returned to our hotel went flawlessly. But most importantly, our night of gazing was awesome. We all enjoyed our time with Ashley -- she is personable, friendly and is able to explain science in easy-to-understand terms, very creatively and with infectious passion and enthusiasm. The iPads are really helpful to navigate the sky and the refreshments are a very nice touch.
