We stopped at The Bird while visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and overall had a really good experience. We ordered the pastrami Reuben with fries and ended up splitting it between the two of us. It was absolutely delicious and VERY hearty. The portions here are definitely generous, and one meal was plenty for two people for us. One thing that really stood out was how creative the food seems to be. This doesn't feel like a restaurant simply following the standard pub menu. Several of the dishes sounded like things they've experimented with, developed, and really made their own. There seems to be a lot of creativity and personality behind the menu. The sauce served with our Reuben was especially good. It reminded me of a cross between Thousand Island and a Big Mac-style sauce, but with its own flavor. Whatever it was, it was top-notch and went perfectly with the sandwich. The atmosphere is definitely that of a true bar/pub. We aren't drinkers, and alcohol is obviously a major focus here, from the decor to the overall feel of the restaurant. If you're not a drinker, you may feel a little out of place in the main bar area, so that is something to know going in. That being said, they do have a separate side dining room away from the main bar area, as well as a patio that looked like it would be a wonderful place to sit, eat, and enjoy the beautiful Wyoming scenery. The building itself is definitely older and a little worn down. It appeared clean on the surface, but you can tell the restaurant has seen a lot of use over the years and could probably benefit from some updating and a little extra attention in certain areas. At the same time, the rustic, well-used feel does fit the personality of a longtime local pub. Our one meal came to $25.68, so it is certainly on the pricier side for a sandwich and fries. However, this is Jackson Hole, and higher prices are somewhat expected in a tourist town. Considering how large the portions were, the price was a little easier to justify. Overall, The Bird is a fun, quirky, very casual place with huge portions and some surprisingly creative food. It was ok. We were hungry. The burger itself was delicious meat. The fries were fresh cut and awesome. The bun was an English muffin. That is where things fell apart. Literally. The English muffin was hard and couldn't hold any of the meat, cheese, bacon, etc. It just fell apart. It was odd. Thank goodness for a a fork and knife. Would I go here again. Maybe for the beverage if I was into beer. But I wanted a Diet Coke. All they serve is Pepsi products. Pepsi tastes like Coke mixed with Dawn dish soap and I'm not into mixed drinks that taste nasty. All this said the staff is awesome. Great service. The vibe is local and where you can unwind. For that just get the chips and queso. read more

2nd visit here for me. The last time I came was 2018 or 2019 as a suggestion by my brother. Nothing has changed, it's a perfect hangout after a long day working out or driving... to which we did all that! Sat on the patio, arrived at 7 so the place was packed, but if you're not a big party, you'll manage. Service was super fast to take orders. We had the chips and queso to start, super perfect chips!! Lots of beers on tap. View is gorgeous! For food we had the polish lawnmower and the French dip. Servings are big so we shared the burger (we got the 9 oz, you can opt for the 4 oz). This place was recommended to us by the locals who work at Wilson's Pizza (go there too, it is amazing). We were told to get wings, so we did and they did not disappoint! We also got three different sandwiches, the Rueben, the Turkey Rueben, and the French Dip as well as a steak. Everything was delicious. Perfect weather for dinner and a beer at the Bird! Starting off with their amazing queso and chips and then moving onto Buffalo wings, the Philly cheesesteak with queso on it instead of cheese whiz, and a Caesar salad. Despite this place being slammed, our order for drinks was taken very quickly and then shortly after the order for food. We love coming to this place. And are total regulars! We ate here after hitting Astoria Hot Springs down the road! Their patio dining has a great view of the valley and it had just rained so the view was amazing. The food was delicious! My wife got a burger, my daughter got lemon pepper wings and I got the Turkey Reuben. I didn't even think turkey on a Reuben would be good but The Bird delivered!! Their house sauce is amazing too. We're back after a 5 year hiatus. The Bird was the recommended spot in Jackson to watch the Alabama (4) vs Georgia (2) football game. The high temperatures here have me feeling I'm back home in Georgia and not in Wyoming. Flat screens dot the walls and college football is the highlight of this Autumn Saturday evening. The ice cold Athletic Brewing Lite beer, a very good non-alcoholic beer, hit the spot, as well as hubs ice cold Coors. The place was packed this evening with the Bulldog Club of Jackson, Wyoming faithful all rooting on the Georgia Bulldogs. Hence, service was slow - very slow! You might want to take note to stay away on evenings like these - unless you're a fan of the teams on their flatscreens! My husband enjoyed his burger and my chips were crisp and the cheese dip hot! What a great place to eat. They accommodated a large group of us, which they don't normally take reservations, but we were disabled veterans on a special fly fishing trip and they took care of us. I love a restaurant with a view and a little sass in the menu. The menu clearly states that everything is made from scratch and be cool about it. I respect that. The views on the deck are outstanding as you look over the snake river. And they have 20 oz Guinness on tap which in our household is a mandatory order whenever we see that in a restaurant. I went with the bushy beaver veggie burger with the mixed greens salad. It was a really good black bean burger and I appreciated the English muffin bun. The hubs went for a classic beef burger with cheese and fries. The fries were crispy and salty and perfect. Service was so friendly and our food was at our table quickly. This was recommended to us by a friend who had visited Jackson Hole. Take a look at the menu before you stop in- they have pretty specific rules for eating here- which I honestly don't mind! You also have to seat yourself which was a little challenging and requires you to wait a little longer, as a party of 3 will seat themselves at a table for 8. But be mindful that your food won't come all at the same time, so eat as soon as your meal comes. I honestly didn't mind that, and I love a snarky menu that encourages me to chill out and stay awhile- however I didn't feel the service was great and it felt a little overpriced for what we got. read more

Ordered a 12oz NY strip with mashed potatoes, a Caesar salad, and cheesecake to go. I was quoted 20-25 minutes and the order was ready right at 20, which I appreciated. I understand that to-go orders don't always fully hit the mark, but unfortunately this one missed it completely. The steak was very overcooked, which was disappointing since that was the main thing I was looking forward to. The mashed potatoes were very plain and unseasoned, though easy enough to fix at home -- just not ideal for the price point. The waitress was extremely kind and let me know the cheesecake was the last slice and didn't look great, so she kindly comped it. It was clearly homemade and did taste good, though the texture was more like a pie or cake than a traditional cheesecake, and part of it was burnt. I still appreciated the gesture. I'm grateful I ordered the Caesar salad, as it was the only item that was spot on. I've worked in food and beverage for over 10 years and am not one to complain -- I've actually recommended this place to friends and coworkers before. The owner of this place Will Nowack is a giant piece of sh**t. I had the worst experience of my life today with him. I am a local and have been to this bar and had take out orders countless times. The food is not the best but good enough for bar food and they have a great outdoor sitting . The service for the most part has been good and some of the servers have been our friends in the past. Today I called and placed an order to go. When I went inside to pick it up a female server asked for the order name and came out of the kitchen with a bag with 2 boxes in it, as my usual order is. She placed it on the to go counter, in the main dining area, I gave her the credit card, I signed the receipt , she thanked me and wished a good day. When I got home in less than 10 min, I realized it's a wrong order and called them to go pick up ours. A man that answered said over the phone that I am a f****g lier , I was rude and I haven't been given the wrong food and I have taken it myself . Shocked from this language and response I asked for the manager and the person hang up on me. After a few minutes I walked back into the bar with the wrong food order with me and asked for the manager .A man came up and when I gave him my name and tried to explain the situation he started pointing his finger at me and calling me "the lier " over the phone that he spoke to and demanded that I show who gave me the food . He kept calling me a f*****g lier and told me to get the f*** out and that I wont be getting anything.0. I demanded the food since I had already paid for it and had the receipt in my hand . He kept cursing at me and telling me to get the f*** out. All this in the middle of the bar packed with customers. A server came between us and gave me a bag with my food and started apologizing for the situation and saying that a mistake happened in giving the wrong order initially and that things shouldn't have gone this far .Being so shocked and frustrated I walked out and by the door there were people who told me that man was the owner of the bar and what his name was and they suppose he is either " on something " or mentally unstable . Hungry as Yogi the bear and needed a place that I could bring my 110 pound pooch, had cold adult beverages and food for Festus. In luck with the Bird that served outside on a very large deck, picnic tables (hey boo boo) and dog dishes to the keep the pooch's thirst quenched! Ordered up a Bacon cheeseburger that was almost cooked to the correct medium redness (came out medium well, something near impossible to get in Utah), bacon that was not over cooked and served with the typical condiments and a huge side of fries. Fetus had a saltless burger giving high reviews except he wanted it all at once but we needed to make it last. Fries were greaseless with the skin still on, not some extruded French Fry loaded with chemical enhancers found in many restaurants and fast food joints these days. Had plenty of craft beer selections thus helping myself to a couple 16 oz. The deck had a beautiful view, service was good considering it was busy. Famished after a hike in the park. I had the Patty Melt, which is one large slice of marbled rye cut in half, grilled with 4oz beef patty, oozing with sautéed onions, and swiss cheese (I did spy some orange cheese too). Served with yummy pickle slices, a nice slice of raw red onion, sliced tomatoes, lettuce and enough french fries to fill the plate (and my tummy). Washed it down with a Snake River Pakos IPA. Went here for lunch today. We all got the special which was a fried chicken sandwich with a spicy aioli. The knock on this place is the wait staff. The lady who started with us was slow in getting to us, even though she looked at us a few times. When she took our order, she never asked us for our drink order. The kicker was at the end of the meal and paying our bill. We tried to split it up but the guy taking our cards said "our menu clearly states we don't do that but I will anyway." Sorry, we didn't see that statement. Then we had questions about the bills when they came back and he was really quite the a$$hole with me. I told him to calm down and he just got huffy and had the "I don't give a $hit" attitude. Really bad. Very small tip for both of them.
