Perfect weather for dinner and a beer at the Bird! Starting off with their amazing queso and chips and then moving onto Buffalo wings, the Philly cheesesteak with queso on it instead of cheese whiz, and a Caesar salad. Despite this place being slammed, our order for drinks was taken very quickly and then shortly after the order for food. We love coming to this place. And are total regulars! We ate here after hitting Astoria Hot Springs down the road! Their patio dining has a great view of the valley and it had just rained so the view was amazing. The food was delicious! My wife got a burger, my daughter got lemon pepper wings and I got the Turkey Reuben. I didn't even think turkey on a Reuben would be good but The Bird delivered!! Their house sauce is amazing too. We're back after a 5 year hiatus. The Bird was the recommended spot in Jackson to watch the Alabama (4) vs Georgia (2) football game. The high temperatures here have me feeling I'm back home in Georgia and not in Wyoming. Flat screens dot the walls and college football is the highlight of this Autumn Saturday evening. The ice cold Athletic Brewing Lite beer, a very good non-alcoholic beer, hit the spot, as well as hubs ice cold Coors. The place was packed this evening with the Bulldog Club of Jackson, Wyoming faithful all rooting on the Georgia Bulldogs. Hence, service was slow - very slow! You might want to take note to stay away on evenings like these - unless you're a fan of the teams on their flatscreens! My husband enjoyed his burger and my chips were crisp and the cheese dip hot! What a great place to eat. They accommodated a large group of us, which they don't normally take reservations, but we were disabled veterans on a special fly fishing trip and they took care of us. I love a restaurant with a view and a little sass in the menu. The menu clearly states that everything is made from scratch and be cool about it. I respect that. The views on the deck are outstanding as you look over the snake river. And they have 20 oz Guinness on tap which in our household is a mandatory order whenever we see that in a restaurant. I went with the bushy beaver veggie burger with the mixed greens salad. It was a really good black bean burger and I appreciated the English muffin bun. The hubs went for a classic beef burger with cheese and fries. The fries were crispy and salty and perfect. Service was so friendly and our food was at our table quickly. Ordered a 12oz NY strip with mashed potatoes, a Caesar salad, and cheesecake to go. I was quoted 20-25 minutes and the order was ready right at 20, which I appreciated. I understand that to-go orders don't always fully hit the mark, but unfortunately this one missed it completely. The steak was very overcooked, which was disappointing since that was the main thing I was looking forward to. The mashed potatoes were very plain and unseasoned, though easy enough to fix at home -- just not ideal for the price point. The waitress was extremely kind and let me know the cheesecake was the last slice and didn't look great, so she kindly comped it. It was clearly homemade and did taste good, though the texture was more like a pie or cake than a traditional cheesecake, and part of it was burnt. I still appreciated the gesture. I'm grateful I ordered the Caesar salad, as it was the only item that was spot on. I've worked in food and beverage for over 10 years and am not one to complain -- I've actually recommended this place to friends and coworkers before. I'll give it one more chance, as it would be heartbreaking not to enjoy The Bird. read more

The owner of this place Will Nowack is a giant piece of sh**t. I had the worst experience of my life today with him. I am a local and have been to this bar and had take out orders countless times. The food is not the best but good enough for bar food and they have a great outdoor sitting . The service for the most part has been good and some of the servers have been our friends in the past. Today I called and placed an order to go. When I went inside to pick it up a female server asked for the order name and came out of the kitchen with a bag with 2 boxes in it, as my usual order is. She placed it on the to go counter, in the main dining area, I gave her the credit card, I signed the receipt , she thanked me and wished a good day. When I got home in less than 10 min, I realized it's a wrong order and called them to go pick up ours. A man that answered said over the phone that I am a f****g lier , I was rude and I haven't been given the wrong food and I have taken it myself . Shocked from this language and response I asked for the manager and the person hang up on me. After a few minutes I walked back into the bar with the wrong food order with me and asked for the manager .A man came up and when I gave him my name and tried to explain the situation he started pointing his finger at me and calling me "the lier " over the phone that he spoke to and demanded that I show who gave me the food . He kept calling me a f*****g lier and told me to get the f*** out and that I wont be getting anything.0. I demanded the food since I had already paid for it and had the receipt in my hand . He kept cursing at me and telling me to get the f*** out. All this in the middle of the bar packed with customers. A server came between us and gave me a bag with my food and started apologizing for the situation and saying that a mistake happened in giving the wrong order initially and that things shouldn't have gone this far .Being so shocked and frustrated I walked out and by the door there were people who told me that man was the owner of the bar and what his name was and they suppose he is either " on something " or mentally unstable . This was recommended to us by a friend who had visited Jackson Hole. Take a look at the menu before you stop in- they have pretty specific rules for eating here- which I honestly don't mind! You also have to seat yourself which was a little challenging and requires you to wait a little longer, as a party of 3 will seat themselves at a table for 8. But be mindful that your food won't come all at the same time, so eat as soon as your meal comes. I honestly didn't mind that, and I love a snarky menu that encourages me to chill out and stay awhile- however I didn't feel the service was great and it felt a little overpriced for what we got. read more

Burgers are served on an English muffin as their burger aren't big enough to fit on a traditional bun. Their Bloody Mary's are HORRIBLE.... Went here for lunch today. We all got the special which was a fried chicken sandwich with a spicy aioli. The knock on this place is the wait staff. The lady who started with us was slow in getting to us, even though she looked at us a few times. When she took our order, she never asked us for our drink order. The kicker was at the end of the meal and paying our bill. We tried to split it up but the guy taking our cards said "our menu clearly states we don't do that but I will anyway." Sorry, we didn't see that statement. Then we had questions about the bills when they came back and he was really quite the a$$hole with me. I told him to calm down and he just got huffy and had the "I don't give a $hit" attitude. Really bad. Very small tip for both of them. I read a review where a woman sat at a table and waited for 20min. Clearly she's never been in a bustling western bar. Why would you sit and wait for 20min? Get up. Talk to the bartender. Make a joke with a patron. Prove your worth and you'll get your drink and food lickety split. My husband and I have been on the road for 8 hours. We needed to chiiiiillllll out. And going straight into the lion's den that is Jackson felt WAY TOO overwhelming. Cue: The Bird. Hungry as Yogi the bear and needed a place that I could bring my 110 pound pooch, had cold adult beverages and food for Festus. In luck with the Bird that served outside on a very large deck, picnic tables (hey boo boo) and dog dishes to the keep the pooch's thirst quenched! Ordered up a Bacon cheeseburger that was almost cooked to the correct medium redness (came out medium well, something near impossible to get in Utah), bacon that was not over cooked and served with the typical condiments and a huge side of fries. Fetus had a saltless burger giving high reviews except he wanted it all at once but we needed to make it last. Fries were greaseless with the skin still on, not some extruded French Fry loaded with chemical enhancers found in many restaurants and fast food joints these days. Had plenty of craft beer selections thus helping myself to a couple 16 oz. The deck had a beautiful view, service was good considering it was busy. The only thing they could do better is have some bison so we could watch dumb tourists make friends but hey, got to see that at Yellowstone! Food was a 3, deck and beer was a 4-5. read more

Famished after a hike in the park. I had the Patty Melt, which is one large slice of marbled rye cut in half, grilled with 4oz beef patty, oozing with sautéed onions, and swiss cheese (I did spy some orange cheese too). Served with yummy pickle slices, a nice slice of raw red onion, sliced tomatoes, lettuce and enough french fries to fill the plate (and my tummy). Washed it down with a Snake River Pakos IPA. (They've got a great local beer selection.)Man that hit the spot! Delicious :P Booths, tables and a bar. This is a great place to watch a game or sit outside on the deck with a great view. This may be the best restaurant in Jackson.... It is a local institution. It is thankfully unpretentious. Excellent local beer, best wings and best fries in town. You can get a simple very well prepared burger or patty melt or an excellent steak cooked perfectly to temperature. If you are a tourist- enjoy and be respectful... leave the discussion about hedge funds and capital-raises outside.... These are backbone of Jackson folks from all walks of life. read more

What a great place to get a casual dinner. We shared a Birdhouse burger and some wings and they were both excellent. The Birdhouse is a double-decker and the patties were homemade and very thick, so after one unsuccessful (and super messy) try at eating it the normal way, we resorted to knife and fork. No problem - it was still delicious. The wings were awesome - big and meaty with crispy skin. The buffalo sauce and the ginger-soy were both very good and the bleu cheese dressing tasted homemade. We also had an order of their house made potato chips, which were pretty darn addicting. It was scary to see that we polished off a pretty sizable container full of those chips. Overall - great food. If there was a way to give it 4.5 stars I would. We are in town on vacation and today was mine and my wife's birthday (yes we have the same birthday). We decided to go out and I was looking g for a steak dinner. There are some dedicated steakhouses in the area but their prices are through the roof. Then I stumbled across The Bird. Checked their menu and saw they had a 12 oz NY strip dinner for $35 and we decided to give it a shot. I got the steak, my wife and daughter got a club sandwiches. We also got an order of wings to start and two desserts. I'll start with the "bads" and then move to the "goods" and finish off with the "amazing". The service was a little slower than I would've liked but the staff were friendly and attentive nonetheless. They had all the doors and windows open and it was HOT out today. Where we were sitting g didn't get much airflow. We considered sitting outside but all the seating was in full sun..... that's it for the bad. As far as good, the food was very good. My steak was cooked perfectly and it came with a mountain of mashed potatoes and a large portion of some of the best spinach I think I've ever had. The spinach just about stole the show ON A STEAK DINNER it was so good. My wife and daughter enjoyed their club sandwiches and said the homemade chips were good. Now for the amazing.... On their menu it says they try to make as much as they can in house. Well it showed in the best way. Find a reason to order a side of ranch. We got ours by chance with the wings but ended up dipping chips in it as well. The ranch was out of this world great. Then the steak dinner came out with house made steak sauce. Normally I avoid steak sauce cause I think it over shadows the flavor of the beef but I'm glad I gave it a shot. What an amazing flavor to complement the steak!!! All totaled up for an appetizer, three dinners (one a 12 oz steak), and two desserts our check was $110. In this area you're not gonna do any better than that. I'm glad we got in there a little before 5 because when we left around 6 the place was packed! This really should be a 4.5-4.75 review but sadly that isn't an option. read more

Food- we just ordered nachos. After the server decided to not help me get a chair for the table inside, we were a little thrown by the service. We didn't want to be rude so we ordered 2 drinks and some nachos and sat there googling other restaurants in the area. We weren't rude to the server at all when asking. I had been in the sun all day and we wanted to sit inside but there was only one chair at the table. I asked if it would be possible to find a chair for the table so both of us could sit down and his response was, "Yeah, if YOU can get one from another table." In a really rude tone. Then he just left. Didn't bother to help us find a chair. Thankfully a nice family noticed and gave us a chair their toddler wasn't using. Anyway, if you like loud settings, I'm sure the food is fantastic. We were just tired and over it and wanted something quieter where I don't have to ask every table for a chair. read more
