I hate the hidden service charge, and will never set foot in Gamefish restaurant again.

The good: -Prickly pear mocktail - wowed by this -NY strip - extremely flavorful and we love that they let us sub the panzanella with the fingerling potatoes -Chopped salad - always a lovely surprise when a salad is this good and not an afterthought -Pot de creme - mmmm perfect -Whipped ricotta - might be my favorite I've ever had, totally demolished this The mediocre: -Meatball - I imagine because these are so popular that they have a lot of them prepped and waiting... because both nights when we ordered this, the cheese was one solid yellowish piece over the top. You know that look that melted mozzarella gets when it's been sitting a while? Like that. The meatball itself was fairly good, red sauce was meh. -Pappardelle with pork and beef bolognese - unimpressed with the flavor of the meat or sauce and it was served barely lukewarm The bad: -Lemon chicken was overcooked - blackened and dry. Left on a few minutes too long for sure. I've spatchcocked chicken and cooked it perfectly like this dozens of times, and can only assume this one dried out because it was absolutely tiny. Like Cornish game hen size. And no lemon flavor, unless you count squeezing lemon on it yourself. But that is not lemon chicken. -Rigatoni with burrata and basil - we added Italian sausage to this and I am not sure what they put in there but it was sliced smoked sausage of some kind that was NOT good. But worse, it was cold. Everything in the bowl was lukewarm to cold which I almost tolerated because I was hungry, but I drew the line when I bit into a piece of sausage that felt like it just came out of the refrigerator. When we told the server, he said he would get us new ones, which he did, but those came out with burrata in cups on the side. Was this supposed to be a jab at me saying it was cold? Like they thought the burrata was what made it cold so they put it on the side? Regardless, it totally sucked trying to mix pieces of it back into the pasta - which was STILL lukewarm. It was like mixing in cheese curds. Terrible. And bottom line? The pasta and vodka sauce were not even close to good enough to justify this frustration. -The service - first night was nice, he was warm and fairly attentive, and offered us split bowls of pasta since he knew we were sharing. Second night was awful. It took 15 minutes to get water and order apps and another 5 to get bread. We said we were sharing the pasta and the chicken but not only did they not split it for us, it took two extra requests to get an extra bowl and large spoon to split the pasta and then an extra plate and knife to split the chicken. And those were all from flagging down the runner because our server was a ghost. Didn't introduce himself, took our order, and we basically never saw him again. Overall, a mixed bag. I might come here again out of convenience (i.e., while staying at Teton Mountain Lodge next door). But I will adjust my expectations accordingly.

Snake River grill has been around for a while and it's designed with that log cabin, woodsy lodge vibe. I love that old world cabin-y feel and they nailed it. Very beautiful space to be in and different from most restaurants in the area. Service -- mixed bag here. Our server was very kind. But she disappeared several times throughout the night. There was a solid 20+ minute lull between apps and entrees -- longer than normal -- which would have been more palatable if a server stopped by once or twice. We sat with an empty table, empty water glasses, and empty drinks. We had to stand up to finally flag down another waiter. Overall - this place is generally regarded as running a very sound operation -- so hard to say what was going on, but definitely put a real damper on the experience. Food - we had 4 total dishes, 2 great, 1 okay, 1 not great. We started with the gnocchi which was prepared in a zucchini cream type sauce. I'm not a big gnocchi guy - usually too heavy for me -- but this summery preparation drew me in. It was stupendous. The zucchini sauce with deliciously fresh zucchini chunks and perfectly delicate gnocchi was an overall excellent dish. We were licking the bowl. For entrees - we had the the spinach papardelle with a rabbit ragu which was also excellent. Rabbit ragu isn't something you find everywhere and it was beautifully executed. Flavorful and fresh and the sauce was not overpowering. The tomatoes chunks were vibrant and delicious and balanced the richness of the rabbit ragu perfectly. The papardelle was infused with spinach and had a perfect chew. Amazing dish. The not so amazing - the bavette steak. The meat itself was good and this is a great cut that's lesser found on menus. The problem was the smoke on it. It was egregious. I don't mind a little bit of smoke on my meat but this tasted like it had been cooked over a wood smoker for the last 2 weeks. It was hard to get past the smoke and neither my wife or i could really eat it. Very surprising that with such a high level of smoke, the menu or servers wouldn't call this out. Smoke is definitely polarizing and not something everybody likes. The whole dish was ruined by it. Big miss. For dessert we had the fruit crumble. The fruit was a blend of several fresh fruits -- delicious -- but the proportion of crumble to fruit was way way off. May sound like nitpicking -- but these are the details that matter and separate an okay dish from a great one. There was a very thin layer of crumble on top (which was great) and below was about 2 inches of jam / preserve. The crumble was gone after a couple bites and we were left with a swimming pool of jam. Less jam / more crumble and you have a top notch dessert on your hands. Overall I'd give this a true 3.5 stars. Ambiance was closer to 5 stars, service 3, food 4. Definitely go check it out

We were very happy with this, to say the least. -Salumi & Formaggi - favorite meat and cheese plate we've ever had. Everything was perfectly selected and paired together on the board. Could not have been more pleased. -Charred broccolini - cooked perfectly to a bright and vibrant color, accompanied by a spicy Calabrian chili aioli. I feel like I always need something green with my dinner and this was an excellent addition to the table. -Rye Cavatelli - great chew on the fresh cavatelli. I watched the PBS spotlight on Glorietta and Wyoming Heritage Grains a few days prior and it made it all the more meaningful to order this dish and taste the hard work and care that goes into the flour and the pasta. And the elk bolognese was wonderful, too, with salty chunks of meat throughout. -Prime NY Strip - if a steak could melt in your mouth. And the additions of the porcini butter and the vincotto pushed it to another level. Spectacular. -Duck breast with creamy polenta, grilled carrots, and balsamic reduction - I have no words. My first bite with a bit of the polenta stopped me dead in my tracks and I had a visceral reaction. A transcendental food moment. It was rich beyond belief; I had no idea duck breast could be like this. We were lucky enough to get last minute seating at the bar - likely because it was a Monday night. We walked here from our hotel (Cloudveil) which only took 5-7 minutes. It's a quaint restaurant that keeps it's mountain town essence as the space is a converted home with an outdoor patio facing the quiet neighborhood street. While the food is elevated it doesn't feel pretentious and maintains a laid back local's feel despite alot of tourists stopping by. While we love cocktails and were impressed with the menu, we were in a wine mood. They have a petite selection of wines by the glass but there's plenty of bottles to choose from. For appetizers we were in the mood for light and refreshing, so the bartender recommended the caesar salad with fresh anchovies. It was perfect for us to share and we loved it. He also mentioned the pasta was house made, so we knew we had to try it. We ordered the fusilli which was so flavorful in spite of being a very simple dish. Our neighbors sitting next to us ordered it first and said it was some of the best they've ever had and they're from NY and have high standards. For our main entree we shared the trout which is from Idaho. I am not that familiar with trout and always forget it's not a white fish but similar to salmon in looks (pink in color) and taste. We really enjoyed it. Lastly, we usually always say no to desert but when in Jackson! The house made panna cotta was perfection - not too sweet. This is a must stop visit for your trip to Jackson.
