Absolutely loved brunch here. The food was excellent, it made the 20 minute freezing walk from the hotel worth it. I order the southern fried catfish with cheese grits and home fries, plus a side of Cajun white wine & cream sauce. My date ordered the crab cakes with collard greens and home fries. We also added on a buttermilk pancake to share. Everything was so good! The catfish was perfectly crispy and well seasoned. I also really enjoyed the home fries. Overall 5/5. Can't wait to return the next time I'm in town.
We came here seeking a warm breakfast before we started our day exploring the city. This place is so pleasantly decorated. I believe Wishbone is the cute poodle that adorns the restaurant's shirts. Being that we came on a Thursday morning it was not crowded, which was great. We were able to take our time. Since we were on vacation, I decided to indulge in an Irish Coffee. They are delightfully heavy-handed with the whiskey in this drink. It was delicious and boozy. My partner got the green smoothie, and it has something like peanut butter in it as it was thick. We both enjoyed it. Then for food I got the small order of the shrimp and grits with bacon. Two reasons I loved this meal, you can have bacon instead of sausage, and you can get it in a smaller than normal size. It was the perfect amount for a full meal and no leftovers. Then I got the biscuit with it. Equally amazing! My partner got the standard breakfast, which came with eggs, meat, a side, and choice of bread. Our waiter was attentive and very kind. We both left warm, full, and happy. You should definitely come here if you're in the area.
I can tell the staff is like well we closing so here goes whatever! Took forever for a waiter to come to our table after waiting 26 minutes to be seated! We place our order and wwwhheww food took almost 30 minutes and it wasnt even hot. Shrimp and grits. And my shrimp was dirty. Still had the vein in it. I forgot to take a picture. I ordered coffee. Waiter never brought any cream. Had to beg another lady to bring me some. And dont even ask for napkins or ice lol

This place gets pretty crowded for weekend brunch, but we were able to get a table for 5 within 15 minutes. Service was quick though the food took a little longer. I got the chicken hash, which wasn't anything special in my opinion but a big portion. The pancakes we got for the table were also standard.
Ordered the salmon cakes which came with two sides. For sides I ordered collard greens and zucchini (special of the day). The overall meal was absolutely delicious! The salmon cakes with the lemon butter were heavenly and the sides were perfect for someone who loves vegetables since they had flavour! The service was quite fast and our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! The decor was quite unique but fun! Great conversational starters! I would highly recommend this place!!
Delicious!!!!! Definitely didn't know they moved from their old location to this one. I thought they went out of business!!!! Great customer service!!! Nice clean restaurant and restrooms. Everything is delicious!!!! From the Shrimp and Grits, to the Salmon Cakes, breakfast items, collard greens, Mac and cheese etc. Their Kentucky Parfait which is reminiscent but better than KFC's chicken bowl . It's Fried chicken breast strips served over mashed potatoes with corn, green onions & brown gravy Fried in peanut oil. Soooo good. Their slushy alcoholic drinks are good too! I love the Georgia Freeze which is La Nevera Rosé, Peach Schnapps, Orange Liqueur, Peach Nectar, Cranberry. The Purple Rain is Bacardi Rum, Deep Eddy Vodka, Violette Flower Liqueur and Lemonade is good too. Just all around good eats and better customer service. I am so happy that you guys are still around kicking out flavor bombs!
I was so surprised by this restaurant! I found it on TikTok and people were trying to keep it and I understand why. All of the food was so amazing... Like when I say it's a hit it's a hit! Our server, Nicole gave us some good recommendations and she was so sweet. The whole family enjoyed the restaurant in the ambience was a chill vibe... But very cozy. I literally will come back every time to this one.
Absolutely a must visit in Chicago for Cajun flavors! We booked a reservation for a Friday breakfast. I recommend booking a reservation because although it was pretty empty when we got there it was full with a wait by the time we left. We came in & we were promptly seated. There's a counter for takeout orders and both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a wide open space where there's tables and seating along the wall. For drinks we ordered the uncles breakfast and the hurricane. Absolutely recommend the uncles breakfast it was amazing! For food we ordered the spicy shrimp & grits, chicken andouille hash, and southern fried catfish. Everything was absolutely amazing! Great flavor & portion size and came out fast. Only critique would be too much onion in chicken andouille hash. The service was great! From the host seating to our waitress to those bringing us the food everyone was friendly, fast, and efficient. The combo of tasty food, good portion size, and great staff in a time when a lot of restaurants are struggling with one of the 3 makes this place a gem. We'll definitely be back!
Came in for breakfast this morning - Sunday, May 3rd. Not the best experience. My eggs came but no toast. My mother didn't receive her side pancake. The waitress said she'd be right back. That didn't happen. In her defense she was busy. Waited and waited. Eggs were ice cold. I didn't touch them. Eventually my mother received her pancakes. The plates were stacked to be taken away. The waitress asked if I wanted to pack up my eggs. I explained I didn't eat them as I never received my toast and now, roughly 25 mins later, they were ice cold. Next thing I know she brings me new eggs and toast. No thank you! My husband was finished eating and had already gone to the car. My mother had finished her breakfast. We were simply waiting for the check. I told the waitress I didn't want the eggs. She took them away and brought the check. She charged me for my breakfast. After the comedy of errors breakfast she should have only charged me for the portion of my breakfast I was able to eat - the bacon and home fries that came as part of my country breakfast. It's the principle. Instead she blamed the new Hispanic person who does not understand English. Maybe he had something to do with it but she is the server and I assume capable of getting an order of toast in a timely fashion as she was aware it was missing when the food was brought to the table. We've been coming to Wishbone since back in the 90's when they had the lunch line and the building on Morgan was owned by Annie Properties. And sweet Faye was a fixture. My how things have changed. Sent a note on Instagram. Not even a reply to acknowledge it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! The staff and the food went above and beyond. It was our first time here and the server was so kind and the chef/owner made the experience even better. He came up to our table and made great conversation, I really appreciate a personalized touch! The food was so delicious! We got a Cajun shrimp and grits (10/10), shrimp and grits (w/ bacon), collard greens, and homestyle fries. The Bloody Mary's were nice and spicy too! A great meal and time, definitely will be coming back soon!
Came on a weekend for brunch and quickly was seated without a reservation. It's a decent sized restaurant, with a welcoming atmosphere and lots of charming southern decor. I got the half order of cajun shrimp & grits for my entree with a cornbread muffin. Man the white wine and cream sauce was delicious. It brought so much life to the dish, and the shrimp/andouille sausage were both seasoned well too. They were both seasoned and cooked nicely. The dish had a bit of spice to it - i personally have a high tolerance so it was a welcomed addition. The cornbread muffin was moist, and dense, it was great. I wish i got another one of these. The portions were fair for the price of the dishes. We had Lawnya as our waiter and they did a great job at being attentive, and accommodating to our allergies. Overall this is an affordable brunch spot for solid southern food and i would come back.
As a third or fourth-time customer, I can confidently recommend Wishbone as a breakfast hotspot . Typically I get the chicken and waffles but this time went for the crunchy french toast and simply put...everything is chef's kiss! The french toast is coated in corn flakes and just adds the crunch you are always looking for in this dish! It also paired perfectly with the chicken sausage links--you get four per order.. We also indulged in the champagne bucket, just to kick off a fun MDW! Think small diner ambiance when you picture Wishbone. It's cozy and welcoming. The affordability is also a major plus, especially for a restaurant in the West Loop. I often describe Wishbone as "what I wish IHOP was". Despite Wishbone's early closing time (typically around 2-3pm depending on the day), we never feel rushed. The service is consistently efficient, and our food is always prepared quickly and correctly. The staff is friendly and attentive, making each visit a pleasant and stress-free experience. Overall, Wishbone has consistently delivered delicious food and excellent service. It's an affordable gem in the West Loop, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

If I can give this place more stars I would. The food here was so good!! Like foodgasm at its finest. The shrimp and grits had a nice spicy kick and had so much flavor. Corn muffin was bomb and so was the French toast. I got the smaller portions for both and it was filling. The service was also really great as she gave amazing recommendations and was attentive. The spot overall was homie and had great music. I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in Chicago. read more

Giving this place 3-stars primarily because the waitress never sat me up and I had to ask another waitress to take my order. My waitress disappeared and I didn't see her again. It's unfortunate because the food was actually good and the grits were what I came for. Happy to know this is Oprah's spot. The tall thin black female waitress i believe she had dreads is attentive and although she wasn't my waitress, she kept checking on me. I'll be back and hope for a better service experience once im back in Chicago for business. read more

Straight off an overnight flight and off to brunch. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. The fish was nice and flaky. The tartar sauce was different so I didn't use much of It. The French toast was simple and delicious. Staff was friendly read more
FINGER LICKING GOOD I have been on the hunt for the best southern food in Chicago, and Wishbone is in first place. Man when I tell you I devoured this food under 10 mins, it was so delicious. I ordered the Cajun shrimp and grits with a side of catfish. It was so flavorful and filling. The catfish was cooked to perfection paired with the home made hot sauce. I ordered a side of gravy for my biscuit and it was amazing, thick and delicious. They have freshly squeezed orange juice and the sweet tea is great. The sweet tea does have free refills. Our server Daniella was such a sweetheart, I will come back just to see her. The vibe is comfy and welcoming. They also have lots of street parking. read more

Arrival around 2p on a Friday, they were able to accommodate a table of 8 with no problem. Ordered the Crawfish Beignets as a starter with the Catfish, Double Potatoes and Biscuit to follow. Beignets came out after the meal, which defeated the purpose and they were just OK. The sauce with the Beignets had a kick to it and there are shrimp which accompany the dish. The crawfish doesn't stand out in the dish as you mostly taste the filler they make these with. Catfish was excellent! 1 medium to large filet comes on the entree and I chose the home fries for both sides with the biscuit. The hoke fries were good, but needed some crispness to bring it home for me. Biscuit was awesome! read more

This is a review for the shrimp and grits ONLY. Which are so incredibly good that my review would STILL be five stars if the customer service was terrible (try any Chipotle Mexican Grill) or they never picked up their phones (try any Lowcountry store). I first had the shrimp and grits five years ago at a good friend's wedding. They were being passed around as appetizers and I'm not ashamed to say that I probably had eight or nine servings. They were so good. And today, as we are leaving Chicago next week, these friends gifted us a to-go order of the classic and the Cajun shrimp and grits. The classic was loaded with bacon and cream, and the Cajun was also tasty with big bits of shrimp and a tangy Cajun flavor. I will be sad to be moving but look forward to my next shrimp and grits from wishbone! read more

I came here with family for a family birthday dinner so you know we ordered a lot of food! Tips that I would recommend is have patience, get ready to yell and repeat yourself. Pluses: the portions and prices are balanced. The staff is always floating around so it's easy to grab the attention of a waiter or waitress if needed. Areas to improve: our waiter should've done a better job with writing our order down for four adults and three small children. There were many moments where we had to continuously ask for things such as extra utensils, napkins, glasses of water and refills, straws and alcoholic beverages. In addition, I would have preferred for staff to recognize when dishes needed to be cleaned off the table to make room for incoming dishes (again the portions are HUGE). I ordered restaurant week meal which included a starter, two entrees and a dessert. I ordered split pea soup, Cajun shrimp and grits, the trout and a strawberry sabayon. My meal arrived on time, the food was presentable, hot, seasoned. My sister in law ordered the crab cake meal with Brussels and sweet potatoes, a glass a Sierra Mist and a salad for starters. My brother ordered the fried catfish meal with sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese. He also threw in a half order of Cajun shrimp and grits. My sister ordered the blackened catfish with mash potatoes and red beans and rice. Also a cup of gumbo. The kids all had servings of Mac and cheese that came with a corn muffin and three cups of apple juice. There were also an order of three alcoholic beverages. (So again LOTSSSSSSSS of food to go around). The sever kept forgetting to bring the Sierra Mist (he stated he didn't hear) and my nephews and niece didn't get their apple juice until half way through their meal. Yikes! All the food was delectable minus the following: (not my opinion. My family's. I enjoyed everything from my plates) The sweet potato side = toooo sweet. Should've been a dessert only Brussels = barely grilled. Should've been more Smokey and cooked Crab cakes = not seasoned at all and a little dry. Best dishes = seafood hands down. The trout and catfish were bomb Cajun shrimp and grits =the roux was great! Mac and cheese = they include the burnt parts (which we all know carries the most flavor). Greens = chicken/ Turkey base! A whole vibe. The southern soul blues music sets the tone. The cajun inspired dishes bring you to a place that's both unique and familiar at the same time. I'll give the food a 4/5 The blackened catfish was decent. Not packing as much flavor as I'm used to. But it doesn't get low marks for that. It arrived to the table cold. So it wasn't as good as it could have been. The home fries were good! Like, really good! I also had scrambled eggs with cheddar, they were coo! The wishbone combo juice was unique, but tasty. Service 2/5 Our server was a bit spacey. We kept calling out to her because she was forgetting to ask everyone if they needed anything. She would ask one of us and then walk away. A few items missing from the first round of plates and we had to remind her. And one order hadn't been updated. I'd go back because I believe this spot has some great potential. read more

Wishbone is a southern, Cajun-Creole restaurant in the West Loop neighborhood. My brothers and I stopped by for lunch. The original plan was to eat breakfast (I was eyeing the cajun omelet) but we lost track of time. We were greeted immediately and given the choice of high top tables at the front windows or the larger dining room (there's also a patio). We sat at the high tops to get some sidewalk traffic views and sunshine. A gentleman brought our menus and gave us recommendations. Turns out it was the owner, Joel. Meeting him was one of the highlights of our trip. The waiter was along soon to take our orders. Our order consisted of a jambalaya omelette, home fries, pancake, Cajun shrimp and grits (my order) and jambalaya. We ended with key lime pie, which could have been lighter and more tart for my taste. The three of us agreed everything else was great. I could eat here multiple days in a row. Breakfast, lunch and then dinner to get through everything on the menu. Seems like a place enjoyed by regulars. Gotta get back. Highly recommended. read more

I visited Wishbone on a Sunday morning around 11am. There wasn't a wait and I was very happy about that. They don't take reservations for weekend brunch! It was busy but not too busy when arriving but by the time we left it was full and there seemed to be a wait. I was greeted immediately by the waiter and he was amazing. Friendly and attentive. Actually everyone that I interacted with was very friendly. To eat, I ordered the southern fried catfish, scrambled eggs, and cheese grits! I also ordered a pancake on the side. They keep a hot sauce on the table. It was great on the eggs and the fish! Everything was delicious and fresh! They have a good drink menu too! I can't wait to try them again happy hour! read more
I came here for brunch on a weekday, and they weren't crowded. I asked for outdoor seating, but I guess all the tables outside were taken so we had to sit inside. We ordered our drinks not too long after we sat down. My friend ordered the watermelon lemonade and the server asked if she wanted it blended or chunks. She said blended, but when the drink came out, it was chunks. They quickly took it back and remade it. Our server was all over the place. When we were finally able to order our food we got: fish & grits, gumbo, watermelon salad, greens, and Mac & cheese. It took forever for our food to come out. When it finally did, they forgot the mac and one of our corn muffins. The food was good, but the service was lacking. read more

Pancakes are so good here. A must for a side and it's a good portion. I had the crab egg Benedict and cheese grits. Everything was good and flavorful. The portions of the dish is more on the smaller side and it is kinda pricey for the amount of food you are getting. They have an outdoor patio area too. read more

A group of friends and I dined at Wishbone for brunch for the first time and we all left feeling so full and satisfied! I ordered the breakfast burrito with cheesy grits on the side, and was very happy with my selection. It might have been a simple dish, but the flavors were just right. We also ordered the Mimosa Bucket for $40 to share amongst a table of 6, where each of us had one glass (not a bad deal). Our server was also quick with service and provided us a nice dining experience. The ambience of Wishbone is chill, but fun with their quirky art painting pieces seen all around. I would dine here again to try their other dishes! read more

I've been coming out here over 20 years and it's always my go to spot. This last time I discovered the Cajun omelette with shrimp, andouille sausage, mushrooms, and just enough kick. Added a side of red beans and rice. Tremendous! read more
What an amazing awesome experience. I had reservations for four on Saturday evening the day before Mother's Day. The atmosphere, the music, the food and the service was phenomenal. Appetizers ordered were fried green tomatoes and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were creamy, spicy, with just the perfect texture. I was surprised how mushrooms, shrimp, sausage and grits make a delicious concert of flavors in your mouth. For dinner we had blackened catfish, a vegetarian plate of red beans and rice macaroni and cheese and sauté spinach and blackened chicken. These dishes were prepared perfectly the fish was fresh the red beans were delicious, the chicken was charred perfectly and it was moist. Everything was just amazing. So our family loves bread so with our appetizers we had the biscuits and with our meal we had the corn bread muffins. The chef in the kitchen outdid themselves the biscuits were airy, fluffy and flaky and the corn bread muffins were yummy goodness in your mouth. The wait staff took care of our every needs and the owner was so friendly we felt like we were at home being treated like royalty. I wanted to try the chicken and waffles but that was sold out what a bummer! They have a full bar with lots of drink options. They are following all CDC guidelines with hand sanitizer on all the tables. What I thought was unique is with your phone you scan a barcode on the table and it pops up the menu on your phone. No more touching and handling menus - thoughtful! Prices were super reasonable and for a table of four eating appetizers, dinner and dessert it was all under $140. They used to be located right by the Oprah studio but prices for rent there went up so they moved just a few blocks away with plenty of parking out front. If you want an excellent culinary experience without having to pay astronomical prices then this is the place for you. I will be back to experience the chicken and waffles. read more
I visited Wishbone 14 years ago in its old location. On a recent trip to Chicago, I was eager to see if it was as delicious as I remembered. I was not disappointed! I had the blacked trout (a special) that came with a little shrimp sauce on the side. The fish was cooked perfectly and the blackened seasoning was as good as I've had anywhere. I enjoyed their Louisiana Chicken Salad with lemon tahini dressing and corn muffin. That corn muffin was moist and not very sweet which was perfect! I loved their cheese grits and flavorful collard greens. The collard greens were cooked and stewed with turkey leg. Their Jambalaya Omelette was awesome and is now my favorite breakfast item in town. I also liked the Shrimp and Grits (with bacon). In addition, I loved their Bootsy Collins cocktail. Service was excellent. read more
I am a BIG fan of this brunch place. I went on Sunday at 9:40am before Christmas and we got seated right away. At 10am though, started getting busy the rest of the morning and there was a long line so plan on coming early if you wanted to be seated right away! The vibes and atmosphere of this place is gets upbeat, lively, and a lot of fun. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood. The food came out quick, and I appreciated that a lot. Those potatoes/ fries--- INCREDIBLE! Make sure you get them. They were so crispy. There's also a nice drink selection too. Big recommendation! read more

Found one of my new go-to places for brunch! We ordered the crunch French toast and chicken and waffles - both were great and the food came out fresh quickly! The chicken was well seasoned and tasted great. The crunchy French toast are next level and highly recommend ordering them if you like French toast. They had some great seasonal brunch beverage options that I will for sure check out next time I come. I also loved that they had hand sanitizer available at every table and Louisiana hot sauce ready at the table. I loved the vibe of the restaurant and the service was impeccable. My husband had the catfish with cheese grits and red beans&rice. He thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I had the half order of shrimp and grits and it was delicious and half an order was plenty! Perfectly cooked shrimp and the sauce was decadent. We both had the peach cobbler and it was delicious as well. My husband is running the Chicago Marathon tomorrow and he had plenty of carbs to prepare him for the race. read more

Is Wishbone dog friendly? Am I able to bring a well behaved pup with me for brunch?
Hi Jessica, we love dogs however only service dogs are permitted inside the restaurant. During warmer months, dogs are always welcome on our outdoor patio!
