After not being able to get lunch at another restaurant we happily settled upon Taste 22. It came recommended by our family friend and it was black owned so that really struck our interest. When you walk in the Ambiance is very modern with a rustic antique feel. The staff greeted us quickly and was able to see us. I like the fact that they have different seating areas. This was for lunch so we were able to find good seats. I ordered the impossible chorizo empanadas which were excellent. However I would say stick with the sauce and not their guacamole as it's missing a bit of flavor. For my entree I ordered the salmon sandwich with a side of Brussel sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were cooked nicely with a tang. I like the salmon but just wish I had more sauce. Overall this place is a must try.

The restaurant interior was really nice! We came on the weekend for brunch, and it was pretty empty, but I can see this place crowding up for a Happy Hour/Dinner crowd. I got the fried Chicken sandwich, and it was perfectly crispy and juicy. It was a good amount of food and the service was fast and friendly.

This place is super classy, charming, beautiful, super clean and I am very, very specific about cleanliness and their bathroom was sparkling, including the walls. I love the furniture and I love the building itself with its old world charm. I love that the kitchen is behind a frosted glass panel of windows. I love it that they have a private room as well as two dining areas and a bar. We enjoyed the mac & cheese and wish there was more cheese in it, but we love the pasta itself. We also had the shrimp with grits and it was very good and everybody has their own taste, but we wished there were more grits to offset a lot of of the spices. But the best part of this dinner was that peanut butter mousse cake, and as you can see in the picture, the moose is all the way down to the floor of the plate so you're not dealing with thick cake to fill up the dessert, but most of it is the mousse of the peanut butter and it's light and fluffy and the little toffee bits in the chocolate and caramel and powdered sugar on the plate really added flavor to the whole dish. That was amazing. Award winning! There is no parking as this area definitely doesn't have parking, but there is parking on the street if you're lucky. The parking lot that they have is for staff and maybe others.

The best time of day is happy hour and Taste 222 is offering a great happy hour option in the west loop. Mon - Fri, from 4pm-6pm, you can enjoy happy hour food and drink deals and their patio is open as well! What I tried: Vegetarian Empanadas Hand cut truffle fries Deviled eggs Firecracker shrimp Korean bbq wings Honorable mention to the Kurveball BBQ Lemonade. This drink was made with Kurveball BBQ flavored whiskey! It's definitely one of the more unique drinks I've had flavor wise; you gotta try it! They also have a DOPE EVENT SPACE that you can use; it's SO NICE and SPACIOUS! It's available for rental and they're taking holiday bookings for the space currently! Add this spot to your happy hour stops in Chicago and tell em that Bri from Planes and Plates sent you! Enjoy!

I have been to this place for numerous events as well as lunch and dinner and it never disappoints! Service is usually on point as well as the food! They have a very nice happy hour as Korean wings, sliders as well as truffle fries are some of the goodies on the menu. Drinks are always on point as well especially their old fashioned and manhattans. As I mentioned I have been here for several events and speaking engagements so they can accommodate certain things depending on what you're trying to do. Dope space!

Burger pretty meh but good value. $16 for a burger plus fries is solid. I need to return to try happy hour...

I love this place! Not only is it conveniently located right off of my greenline stop, but they have an amazing happy hour and the actual restaurant is also a great place to stop in and get some work done during the day.

We had the mussels, chicken wings, shrimp, artichoke dip and a few drinks!

Sometimes it's hard to find value at upscale and nice restaurants in Chicago. Either the food is good, but too expensive or the portions are just too small. Taste 222 draws that fine line between price and value. It's located on the Eastern edge of the West Loop, so you would expect prices that are too high for what you are getting, but this is not the case. First, the food is amazing. Of all the dishes I tried when I visited with my wife, father and mother my favorites were the steak fites, cornbread and the peanut butter mousse pie. The cornbread was just enough to get the meal started and had a hint of an unexpected spicy kick. The steak of the steak frites was perfectly cooked the frites were amazing, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Then, the peanut butter mousse pie was insanely good. I love the combo of peanut butter and chocolate, so this was the perfect dessert for me. This dessert is a must order. The mousse was so creamy and flavorful. If you love peanut butter and chocolate this is the one for you. Second, the value is amazing. Most, if not all of the main dishes and handhelds were $20 or less. While the portions are smaller than other restaurants, each dish would be enough to fill me up. Third, the service was great. Our server was friendly and our food came out fast and hot. In sum, this spot needs to be on your list.

Great opportunity to visit during Chicago Black Restaurant Week and try their top favorites. Started off with their soup of the day (clam chowder on Monday) and kale salad. The chowder was perfect for the cold weather. We had the Shrimp & Grits as well as the Southern Fried Catfish which were both exceptional entrees and huge portions. I had my leftover Shrimp & Grits the following morning for breakfast and was not disappointed. I was skeptical of reheating grits the next day but the consistency did not slip. For dessert, we tried the peanut butter pie which stands up to its name as well as the sweet key lime pie. Ambiance is extremely dainty and cute. The service staff made us feel welcomed and told us about their upcoming happy hour in the next few weeks. Can't wait to return!

I haven't been here in two years. Stopped by on a train trip from Washington State to New York. I thought, I could get fast food, I could get something basic. No. I went for the soul. I headed straight to Taste 222. I walked in, my backpack on, probably looking like a dingy little white kid that got lost in a target. I took some pictures, walked around looking at the amazing scenery. I was in Chigago! I went up to the bar and sat there with a big grin. The staff greeted me with absolute glee. From Washington, they said! Wow! What made you come out here? Your partner? Wow! That's amazing. I told them to give me their choice, something with meat! Anything with steak. The man said "I gochu" and told me he's get me a prime rib salad. He asked.if there was anything I wanted special with it, and I stopped him, and said "make it the way you'd make it." He was so excited. I chatted with them while I waited for my prime rib salad. I was starving, almost 4 days on a train would do that to a person. They hooked me up with the finest steak I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. I couldn't dine in because it was still COVID time, but it was a well-needed interaction for all of us I'm sure. I wonder if they still remember me at all! (C'mon guys, little queer kid, sweaty, backpack, hard to forget!) I went out on the sidewalk and SCARFFED that.

Black owned and operated Love it I actually was invited out to attend a sponsored bourbon event vent and what I liked that they did there was they infused watermelon within the drinks to make them a little bit more tolerable cause bourbon is definitely strong but with the watermelon they were so tasty we also were able to order burgers fries and chicken wing Buffalo chicken wing appetizers everything was good the crowd was a older crowd no issues or problems I would definitely try this place again

It is definitely unique, creative, and a massive differentiator from any other cocktail bar I've been to. Now, let's talk cocktails! The creativity of the interior extends into the menu. Unlike some places that just make variations of existing classics (except for items specifically so named, like the Old Fashioned or Espresso Martini), all of their cocktails are unique and interesting. Time for a punch card? I ordered the Maximillian the Imposter. While I'm not typically a fan of banana (except for banana bread), I thought I'd step out of my comfort zone, and I wanted to try something 'flaming'. Flaming it was! The preparation of the drink involved a surprising amount of fire. I initially thought this was just for show, but no, this translated into a noticeable smoky flavor. Beyond that, the drink was strong, not overly sweet, and an all-around delight. There was one bartender on the night I was here, and while it was busy, I was still able to get my drink in a reasonable amount of time. I also feel as though they have reasonable prices, especially considering the quality and the market rates. King of Cups gets busy, and for good reason: they are an all-around phenomenal place, from the drinks to the vibe, and everything in between. If you're someone who likes a seat rather than fighting through a crowd, get a reservation! See you there!

The last course was chocolate fondue served with marshmellows and a side of fire. It was as if you were making smores because it also came with some graham cracker sprinkles. A guitarist sits somewhere against a brick wall and plays music lightly but energetically. Service is friendly from start to finish and smiles are on everyone's faces. The menu is pretty easy to understand. You can get a three-course meal, or you can get each entree à la carte. You have two fondue candles in front of you, one for the cheese and dessert, and the other for the oil. We chose the three-course meal, and it was delightful. We started with the cheese appetizer. You get a basket of bread and fruit and we chose the seasonal cheese to dip. The oil for our meat was then left to heat, and we received a massive platter of veggies and meats for our main course. We chose the option for all selections of meat and seafood. After trying all the meats, I would opt for the lobster and shrimp. You can also substitute the oil for a broth. I would like to try the broth for next time. In one of the shakers, Gejas makes their own meat spice mix. It's recommended to put on the meats and even the desserts. It's a mix of tangy and savory and was a great compliment to the meal. We then chose the seasonal dessert, a white chocolate with vanilla cookies. Fruit, marshmallows, and churros to dip. We were so full by the time dessert came, but we enjoyed a few bites and took it home. The three-course meal, with five types of meat, came with about 10 pieces of meat. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it truly is, with the apps, veggies, etc, your stomach will be full when you walk out of here. They also start the entire course with a mixed salad (so technically it's a four-course meal). It was very fairly priced, as well. Initially looking at the prices, you may think it's expensive, but it truly is a value with the amount of food they serve. This was rated as most romatic restaurant in Chicago. Its ambiance gives you the romantic feel, the guitarist adds to the atmosphere, and the staff is professional and friendly. This really was a great place and we enjoyed our time and meal.

Not many Michelin starred restaurants can pull that off on a Monday, but Esmé always seems to have energy. This place has become one of our most reliable favorites. They change the menu a few times a year in conjunction with rotating local artists, and the restaurant itself feels more like a refined art gallery than a traditional dining room with white walls, clean lines, simple and elegant. Last night was no exception to their usual excellence. The experience is really anchored by Chris Gerber, a longtime Chicago hospitality pro, and his team. They are flawless. This is true hospitality in every sense of the word. They usually keep two signature dishes, and for good reason. The caviar supplement sounds odd on paper, but in your mouth it is absolute perfection. The cod sounds simple, but it is anything but, rich, decadent, and always one of the highlights. Everything new on this menu was also outstanding. Every course had beautifully balanced sauces that made sense with the dish, and the presentations were creative without being gimmicky or over the top. The plating always ties in with the featured artist in a way that feels thoughtful, not forced. One tip. Be careful when choosing your beverage pairing. We did not read closely enough and ended up with the more inventive pairing that included cocktails and a beer. It was fun, but afterward we wished we had gone with the higher end wine pairing instead. Bottom line. Esmé remains one of the most consistent Michelin starred experiences in Chicago. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. But the rest of the meal was unfortunately mediocre. Hoping that others have a different experience with the regular menu!

They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
