Chicken and waffles
Ashley L.

Went here for brunch with friends on a trip to the Chicago and it was soo memorable! Got thr chicken and waffles, mimosa, and a cold brew on draft. The chicken and waffles were absolutely the best I've ever had and the atmosphere was perfect. I will definitely be going back here during my next Chicago trip.

I had a blast here! I visited for the Christmas pop-up and had so much fun taking pictures--every corner was a photo op! Our waitress was incredibly friendly and sweet. She even helped us take photos when we struggled with selfies, gave great suggestions, and checked in on us often. The food and drinks were decent. The prices were affordable, though nothing really stood out. The Christmas drinks were a bit pricey, but they looked beautiful; the flavor was just okay. I would definitely come back for future holiday pop-ups just to take pictures.

The Christmas decor was so cute and the space was very festive. I came here for a happy hour and we ordered drinks and appetizers with a few entrees. The drinks were following the holiday theme, and there was a standard mocktail menu but I wish they branched out their mocktails to the holiday drinks as well. The food was just ok - the pizza crust was dry and the cheese was not melty. The pasta was also not as flavorful and did not match the price point. The apps were better, as we enjoyed the calamari and fried chicken. I would not come here for food, but it's a good place to hang out and have a few drinks.

Visited on a Wed at 5:30PM during the holiday seasons and man was it crowded. Make sure you arrived with your whole party because they won't seat you otherwise. I'm not sure what their policy is during the normal time but the table time limit is 90 minutes. Plenty of times for some drinks and apps. Ended up ordering a Frosty and Lychee Martini. Frosty is a sweet, creamy coconut cream, cinnamon and lychee dream. I wish I could have a pitcher. We also had the pizza, fry trio and whipped ricotta. Nothing to write home about. I was disappointed with our server that charged us for a birthday cookie skillet we didn't ask for. I think if i come back it would just be for a cocktail and cute atmosphere. The decorations are stunning.

Fries Trio

Met up for girls night at Hubbardd Inn for drinks and light apps before heading to Joy District for a DJ set and night out. It's super conveniently located to nightlife The main reason we picked it was because you can all get separate checks and pay on your phone after scanning a QR code. They had a really great seasonal pumpkin spice martini that I was obsessed with. Prices are high, but as to be expected for the neighborhood. Our server checked in appropriately, not too much and enough to make sure we were good. We also tried the fries trio and loved the variety. It was a great shareable to accompany our drinks! There was plenty of availability on a Friday night, around 8-10pm. You could easily walk in without a reservation.

I am surprised to see a below 4 star rating for Hubbard Inn. Although I was here around the same time 2 years ago for a drink at the bar, I don't write a review back then but it was set up for Christmas just like it was today and it's beautiful inside. Feels very festive and Christmasy and I'd go back just for that without having to spend ridiculous amounts at the many Christmas popups that are setting up as we speak. That said our brunch was just as awesome as the Christmas decorations. We got the crab cake Benedict and the French Toast and they were both delicious. The potatoes and the side salad were so good as well. Service was great but they do charge a customary 20% gratuity and a 4% restaurant charge so overall a bit much.

Pumpkin spice espresso martini

I swung by Hubbard Inn to check out some of their new fall cocktails that they have and I'd seen and I gotta say that I am so obsessed with the pumpkin spice espresso martini. I'm a fan of espresso martinis to begin with, but not such a fan of pumpkin spice lol! However, their pumpkin spice espresso martini uses real pumpkin purée, and it is so good! Outside of that, they have a list of super cool fall cocktails, one of which is named sweater weather and the other others fall in suit with the clever naming. And for those who know and don't know, the vibes and ambience here is always dope. If you are curious about the new drinks and fall menu, I suggest you swing by, especially to check out their happy hour which runs from 4 to 6 every day and last all day on Thursdays. Tell them that Bri from planes and plates sent you!

We ordered a few apps and a pizza to share and truly enjoyed everything we ordered. We found the flight of fries to be unique and tasty. The pizza and whipped feta were also good but pretty standard. The lychee martini was a hit within our group.

Happy hour is on fire !! Martini Lychee is sooo good if you have never had an absolute Order if on special or not!! Pooja our bartender was sweet, personable and overall excellent service. Vibe was fun! Good music I'm a burb girl and will be back. Boyfriend ordered chicken bites and the different sauces were tasty ones that I'm not exactly use too. 10 out of 10

Popcorn Chicken

Came here with a group of friends recently and had an enjoyable time. The interior is upscale and the service was very attentive. I got the popcorn chicken and I loved that it came with literal popcorn, but the popcorn was stale. My friend got the oysters and liked them and we all loved the truffle parmesan fries, yum! My other friend got the mac n cheese croquettes and was served crab croquettes by mistake. It was fine for her because she likes crab, but I'm allergic to shellfish so that mix-up can be dangerous. We also all got cocktails which were delicious! In particular the lavender one was so tasty. Overall: decent dining experience with good drinks and decent food.

We were celebrating a friends bday, had reservations and were a bit late. We called and they accomodated with no issue at all! It's in River North area in downtown which is normally pretty crowded. It was extra busy because of how nice the weather was. Parking is hard so usually its a parking lot or they have valet for $25. The vibe inside is nice- its a fun atmosphere with booths and tables around a bar. The music is pretty loud. We all got a variety of drinks and they were made well but some of us didn't like certain flavors. The Tropical was very banana forward. The Smokeshow was very peppery etc. Our server was great so we tipped well but the food was just okay. Its tough because being downtown you have so many great options. We got a variety of appetizers and meals. I got Threesome fries (sweet potato, cajun, truffle parm) and Caesar Salad with steak. The fries were good, but hard to mess that up- but the sweet potato has cinnamon sugar on it which is hit or miss for some people. The salad was good but the steak didnt taste as fresh as I think it should have. The flavor was slightly off. Others got burrata pizza, peach pizza, rib empanadas, and whipped ricotta. They all thought it was okay. The Burrata pizza had whole pieces of meat on it and too sweet of a sauce. The empanadas were good but I would say more like beef pot pies with a pastry crust. The whipped ricotta was my favorite I think- but we could have used more bread or something additional to dip it in. For the price I wouldn't come back necessarily for the quality of food. Overall experience 3/5

Came here with a group of friends to celebrate the Holidays! This place is definitely festive with a lot of fun decorations. They have a holiday cocktail menu with lots to choose from. Their menu doesn't have any GF items listed but the server was very knowledgeable. I ordered a cheese and asparagus omelette with breakfast potatoes. The server mentioned she can have the potatoes cooked in a separate pan to avoid cross-contamination. The food was really good!

Lobster roll

My family and I ordinarily go to the Walnut Room for a Christmas brunch/lunch but the food and ambiance has really fallen off the last few years so we tried this as something new! Overall, I loved the food and the Christmas vibe was so cute. I had the avocado toast and my mom had the lobster roll. The fries were so good! Our server was super sweet and I really loved my experience. I'll be back for sure!

I actually love coming to eat early because the servers are a little more attentive since they just started their shift and the service is a little faster as there are less tables. Let me tell you, though, whatever we came it was quite busy with graduations and family dinners-which I didn't mind at all! What ate a relatively large meal as I had eaten a smaller lunch. We started off with the wedge salad and a yellowtail sushi roll. The wedge salad was pretty average, but the dressing was really delicious. The yellowtail was also pretty good and the jalapeño topping gave an extra kick last minute. For the entrées, we ordered the scallops as well as the pan seared Chilean Seabass. The scallops are buttery, rich, and had a perfect crispy crust. The Seabass was flaky and light-overall a very good combination of flavors. We got a side of the broccolini and then the crème brûlée and a piece of Keylime pie to go. Overall a very filling and delicious meal-I was pleasantly surprised with the scallops and how light the sea bass was.

A seafood birthday dinner has become her tradition, can't say I'm upset about this!! We started off with drinks! Two of us got the Floral Cloud and the other two got the salty air margarita! The salty foam (replacing the traditional salt rim) was perfection!! The presentation of the floral cloud was so cute! For starters we got the patatas bravas, 10/10 would recommend!! The sauce was delicious!! I personally got the poke bowl, it was love at first bite!! While it may not look like a huge portion I was only able to finish 3/4 of it. Shared with the after in an attempt to save room for dessert!! Two of my friends got the scallops and the other got the lobster roll. Scallops were delicious, they shared a bite with me! The lobster roll left me a bit unsatisfied. While it had plenty of meat it lacked lasting flavor!! Now let's talk about the MVP's of the night- Dessert! HIGHLY recommend the key lime pie if you're a fan! It also includes some of that salt foam! The sticky toffee was a huge hit at our table!! And the passion fruit in the flan was a very yummy add on!! We shared the tuna tartar as an appetizer and it was one of the best things i've tried! The presentation was also so fun and pretty, served inside a coconut with plantain chips on the side. I ordered the lobster roll and it was so so so amazing, definitely best i've ever had. The bun was toasted and buttery and the lobster filled with flavor.. I could eat 5 of them!! They also had brought seasoned corn nuts to the table when we were seated and salted caramels for dessert, both fun and yummy. Available only in the bar area, we were able to find a table for two inside by the windows, in spite of it being very packed. Our server was quick to approach our table, even though hubs had wandered over to the bar to order. After I summoned him back, we ordered a couple of Stellas, a Filet Slider and Baked Goat Cheese; each item was $5 on the HH menu. A few minutes later, Hubs waved over our server again to order 4 oysters, which were BOGO during HH. Upon her suggestion, he chose the smaller East Coast oysters. He told me they were really good and he was happy with his choice. I had two good bites of the filet slider & was delighted at how delicious it was. The piece of meat was quite large, especially for $5! Thick & juicy, it was cooked perfectly medium rare. The slider was plated with lots of crispy string fries that were very tasty. Our other app, the baked goat cheese, was served atop a skillet of tomato sauce with four pieces of toasted bread. This was also a delicious plate. Service was very on-point, and we never felt rushed, even after Happy Hour ended. At some point, the pianist arrived & we enjoyed a rousing selection of yacht rock tunes as we finished our beers. My favorite piece of ambiance was the steampunk-powered ceiling fans, even though they probably did very little to circulate the air. The decor was vintage travel, which I loved! I'll definitely return to Hugo's again, at least for Happy Hour, the next time I'm in Chicago's Gold Coast area.

That's not ambience, that's a liability. The seafood "tower" is a plate. A good plate -- tastiest thing we ate -- but when the menu says tower, you expect something vertical. The mac and cheese, however, is genuinely outstanding. It alone justified getting dressed up. The steaks did not. One overcooked, one undercooked. At a steakhouse. At $300 a person, give or take. Then the bill arrived with a 3.5% "Emp. Benefits" surcharge -- unannounced, undisclosed, not on the menu, or website. Server said it was a 'credit card processing fee'. At this price point, padding the bill with a hidden fee and dressing it up as charity isn't charming. It's deceptive. Just price your food honestly. Come for the mac and cheese and order the double seafood plate, if you can afford it. Bring a flashlight. Read your bill carefully.
