Ignored by my server for 45 minutes; the kitchen took 40 minutes to cook my food, but only half that time for the people at the next table who ordered the same item. She never checked back! Couldn't get her attention. My coffee cup was completely empty. She paid attention to her other tables but not to me. Once I finally was able to speak to the waitress, she didn't apologize or explain -- and she still didn't bring coffee! I spoke to the manager and she walked over and grabbed a carafe of coffee, it's that easy. I had somewhere to be, and this experience ruined my entire day. Manager offered me a free slice of pie, but also never apologized. I paid the full amount of my meal. I have been a customer of wishbone for many years, including at their previous locations on the west side and in Lakeview. I will probably never go back. Unfortunately I hate to report this is service here is terrible. From the hostess stand to our server we were constantly disappointed. The only reason I gave any stars is because the food was actually good but the service was such a turn off I will not be returning. The hostess quoted a 30 to 40 minute wait which was fine for a Sunday brunch in the middle of the morning. I waited out of the way and then they told everybody to go outside and they couldn't wait inside, mind you it was pouring rain. And they were pretty rude in their delivery. We sit down at her table, our server gives middle of the road as expected service. We were chitchatting and catching up because it had been years since we've seen each other and we had been at the table for exactly 1 hour at this point. The server comes up to the table and says "not to be rude ladies but I have a hour and 20 minute wait outside ". Essentially saying it's time for you guys to leave now that you've not going to be buying anything else. I would only patronize this place for maybe a to go order in the future so I can completely avoid their poor service, but also hesitate to do that because I saw a few to go orders actually come back because wishbone had gotten it wrong read more

Tried this spot on a turnaround trip in August 2022 and might have to go back while I'm on vacation. Love the ambiance of the restaurant, the staff was very welcoming and if I had to complain about anything it's the wait time (popular because the food is that good), but I'll wait. read more

When I think of southern breakfast, I think chicken & waffles, biscuits & gravy and grits. But I've never thought of a Cajun style breakfast. And when I first glanced at this place, it didn't look appealing. Unfortunately, the place we initially wanted to go to wasn't offering their regular brunch menu that weekend so while in the area, we had to find another place, so wishbone came up again, and it actually looked good this time! We ordered their Red Eggs, and their Louisiana bowl. Their Louisiana bowl, came with red beans over rice or cheese grits. We opted for the rice and scrambled eggs. It came with a perfect cooked andouille sausage and topped with green onions and tomato. It all tasted delicious but not sure if I would order it again. The red eggs tasted similar to huevos rancheros. At the very bottom you had tortillas and it was all topped with eggs, cheddar cheese, chili ancho sauce, scallions, sour cream and cilantro salsa, although I don't remember tasting any cilantro salsa. It was served with black beans on the side and a biscuit. The biscuit tasted fresh and delicious. The dish itself was delicious. The dish was very flavorful and wouldn't mind ordering it again. Came for brunch upon a friend's recommendation. Easy location to navigate to with plenty of street metered parking. I didn't see any free parking in nearby neighborhoods. For brunch they do not take reservations. My friend arrived at 10:30 am and we were seated at 10:50am on the patio. Patio is a nice area with an overhanging awning to keep sun out of eyes. Not sure patio awning would prevent rain from ruining your eating experience. Menu offerings for brunch were plenty. Food was good. I would give food 4.0. I ordered short rib hash with over hard eggs, and corn muffin. Also ordered mac & cheese. I enjoyed all of my selection. I would get everything again. Price for side of mac was kinda of high but I did 8enjoy it. Drink selection was good. My friend and I both ordered a mimosa. She ordered mango and I got hurricane flavoring (cranberry, mango and orange juice). If my review was only based on food then would be a 4.0 stars. The service here was less than subpar. Upon arrival our table had honey spilled on it. I didn't see the honey until my fingers and hands were soaked in it. Ok not a big deal. Asked server for napkins and hot water and also to clean table again. This happened. However no one ever picked up leftovers honey soaked napkins or hot water. If table was big then this would of been okay but it wasn't. Asked another server to pick up and she refused stating she couldn't carry...wrong you are choosing not to carry. Our main server was distant and short. While she may have added some general words of salutations... they were with an attitude. Additionally we never had enough water. It was 86° out and had to ask for more water several times. We definitely felt rushed by them to order and eat. At one point they added a chair to our table while we were dining. It was just a feeling of uncomfortableness from majority of the staff. On to the wrap up of the brunch. We asked for our ticket. Finally received it. At this point, my friends meter was going to run out. My friend reviewed the check, she noticed the drinks were put on wrong but because we were in a time crunch, we opted to just pay. My friend left cash for half and I was going to pay my part in credit card. I waited an additional fifteen minutes to get my card back without water. Again not a good feeling to have your credit card off to god knows where for this additional time. At one point I asked the manager if my server was coming back. My meter was about to run out too because of the extra time. When I get receipt back, the waitress (Nicole G.) Says nothing just places it on the table. I open it and notice she has corrected the drinks which added $8 bucks to the bill. Not horrible, really not about the nominal amount of money. However she could of said, my bad this was wrong. I am going to alter it to reflect the right order. This didn't happen and I felt disgruntled by the slick way she did it without an explanation. Also the additional wait to correct her mistake almost made me have to put more money on my meter. The money isn't a big deal, however she was aware we were splitting the bill. So I got stuck with her correction. Anyway this left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't think you should ever charge someone's credit card after you have extended them one bill and then changed it to something else. Not necessarily fraud but poor business behavior to do this. I would overall give service 2.0 stars. While the food was good, hard to overcome poor hospitality. Not sure I will return which is a bummer. read more

Yum! I've eaten here a few times and I was happy with it. The best thing I've tried was their baked / grilled fish! It was so perfectly cooked and tender. The sides were great. The gumbo wasn't anything to write home about. I don't know if my standards for gumbo are just a bit higher but I was surprised it came across as kind of bland. I get it a lot of these dishes are made for the northern American taste buds but give me more seasoning and kick! Wishbone is an essential pandemic friendly brunch spot in West Loop! Focusing on a southern twist, Wishbone does a great job in satisfying the brunch stomach with eggs, home fries, pancakes and french toast specials alongside their offerings of grits, corn muffins, and fried fish delights. I really liked the sides offered with each brunch special, I ordered fried southern catfish and it came with two eggs and a side (or two sides if you're not an egg fan) and a bread option. One thing I wasn't head over heels for was their tartar sauce, which had more of a spicy andore heavily creamy taste than the traditional tart flavor. But otherwise the fried catfish was fried to the crisp on the outside and deliciously flaky on the inside. Another outstanding strength was their drinks menu. As opposed to the the regular expensive brunch cocktail menu, they offered many mixed beer cocktails that were very affordable! We got the brunch box which mixes a lager with freshly squeezed OJ, which was refreshing in all the right boozy amounts for a weekend brunch. The food here is amazing!! Trust me on this one. I ordered the Southern Style Fried Catfish thanks to all of the yummy yelp pics posted. I'm not a catfish person, but it was really good. Oh and the batter was perfect! It was well seasoned and crispy around the edges, just like I like it. ("Who's the cook? Y'all need to give him/her a raise!" lol) The catfish meal came with 2 eggs, a choice of house fries or cheese grits, and toast, biscuit or corn muffin. I choose cheese grits and corn muffin. As my handicapped husband and I prepared to leave Wishbone last night, we saw heavy snowfall in progress. Owner Joel Nickson immediately picked up a broom, went out to the curb, and began sweeping snow off our car. Another patron pitched in as well. While I warmed up the car, our server, Rigoberto, escorted my husband across the slippery sidewalk, down the curb, and deposited him in the car. Note they do NOT do reservations on the weekend so we arrived early (i.e., close to after they opened at 8am). They hadn't gotten busy and we were seated promptly. Our server Deidre was awesome. Get mix of attentive and distant. He ordered Cajun Shrimp & Grits with a side pancake and I ordered the Spinach Omelet with Swiss, breakfast potatoes and a biscuit with a side of French Toast. He was pleased with his Cajun Shrimp & Grits. Now the pancake...not do much. He felt it didn't really have any flavor...you know like you get with a good buttermilk pancake or one you make at home. Well my Spinach Omelet, breakfast potatoes and French Toast created a party in my tummy! Omelet was fresh with a good balance of ingredients in every bite. Only thing I would have changed would have been ordering it with all egg whites. The potatoes had a perfect mix of crunchy and soft, btw they are cubed potatoes...I added pepper. I haven't been to wishbone since 2018 at their old location off Washington. We showed up with a group of 8 and were seated outside. Majority of the table ordered mimosas and I had a blood Mary. It was ok, I've definitely had better. But let's get to the food. I ordered the Cajun shrimp and grits only because the andouille hash was out of stock. The dish was delicious. Very creamy and flavorful and I chose the corn muffin to have as my bread option. I really enjoyed it as well. The food here is awesome, but make no mistake - get some shrimp and grits before jambalaya and not vice versa! Shrimp and grits (we got the usual, not cajun) are very creamy and tender, but jambalaya is so flavorful, it's like a delicious explosion in your mouth! I would be back again just for it. Food was decent but NOT GOOD and certainly not the Wishbone quality that was once on Morgan in the West Loop. Service left a lot to be desired and small things (such as manners and a proper Point of Sale system) were lost on the staff; my waiter seemed more annoyed with me and my Apple card and ignoring me than interested in serving my food (which was completed by runners). When deciding on where to go for dinner, I threw out Wishbone and two other places, and was pretty neutral between the three. I am so glad, however, that my friend ended up picking Wishbone because this meal was wonderful. They brought us a sampling of their corn muffin, cheddar biscuit, and general bread for us to try and nibble on before our food arrived, and it was both delicious and a lovely move on the part of the Wishbone team. I ended up ordering the cajun shrimp and grits because I'd read some Yelp reviews praising it, and Yelp steered me in the right direction. I used to be skeptical of grits as a food, but now I realize I was naive and when grits are done well, they are amazing. The cajun shrimp and grits has a definite kick but is the perfect blend of spices and such good flavors. My friends enjoyed what they got (one got the etouffee and the other got the jambalaya omelette), but one definitely exclaimed that my cajun shrimp and grits was the best. I'd definitely come back here for a soul food craving, especially since there are so many lovely things on the menu that sound super super good. Wishbone at breakfast....what more can I say? They have the most dynamite all fruit smoothie I have had in my entire smoothie life! It is to die for in my taste opine. The service is top notch and on point. Twice we have been there and we enjoyed eating inside and out. The breakfast crowd is not overbearing and the music is not so intrusive that you can't converse with your dining companion. The variety of food to choose from is mouthwatering. On our last visit, I had the pancakes (which melt in your mouth). The Chicken Sausage is good as are the cheese grits. The crawfish cakes are good, but they were missing something for me. My husband enjoyed the breakfast gumbo w/grits and the biscuits were light and fluffy.
