So I am a total New York pizza snob and have very high standards...Wiseguys is really good and right up there with some of the best pizza in Boise! For my money, it's Wiseguys and Guido's and everything else is a few tiers down. Went on Friday night before a basketball game and ordered a large pizza and some wings. The pizza came and was fantastic...crisp crust with a bit of a crunch, nice balance of cheese and toppings...really good! They didn't catch our wings when we ordered them, so when my son asked about them they brought us an order and didn't charge us for them...very good service! This was our first time in as a family. My husband works downtown, and has been there before alone. I wanted a quick Guidos meal as it was late and the kids were starving. We had just been to a long yet fun city choir function at BSU. My husband suggested Wiseguy's, said I would like it. It was fast. Customer service was spot on. We sat in the back area, the kids got a table of their own. We loved the pizza, the garlic knots, and even the simple garden salad was fresh. The ranch dressing was cold, like it should be! I hate a warm dressing.. And ewe.. always scared to eat it anyway. The downside.. Well, the NBA game was on and given there were only 3 other people there, one was LOUD. Now.. I'm no pansy to sports bar loudness. I get it! I love a good game. The couple at the bar were normal. Laugh a little, root a little. It's all good. But.. Apparently the LOUD girl was a girlfriend of someone working there. No food, maybe a drink by her, but good lord, I felt like I was sitting next to her. She cussed a few times, LOUDLY. Her ultra volume wasn't even about the game! Everything from her view about other girls to how she was the cutest baby in the world. I would guess she was pretty sober as well.. I'd HATE to see her inebriated. Enter manager..or who appeared to be the manger. He was awesome. Told her to pipe down and then pointed to the kids in the room. I really appreciated that! This is one of my favorites in Boise the crust isn't bland like most pizza downtown and it's never been soggy or cold when delivered... the staff is always welcoming and patient. Also, they deliver to Prefunk and my other favorite downtown place won't so now I only go here for my pizza needs! Side note... as a New Yorker it's humorous that people from here believe guidos even compares to wiseguys... worst pizza I've had in Boise to date is from guidos. I even went back to give them another try after my can of sauce on dry unseasoned bread and Sysco brand cheese and it was even worse. This is one of those times where I wish I didn't have to give a set rating. The food was decent, yet my chances of coming back here rely only on if I'm stumbling out of a 6th & Main bar during the wee hours of a weekend night and need a quick bite. So what do I give them? For NY-style pizza, I'm partial to Guido's, probably one of the best (if not THE best) restaurants in town to fuse quality with affordability. But I was curious to try out some new competition for them in downtown, in the location previously occupied by Chronic Tacos. And based on the pizza I had at Wiseguy, it's actually solid competition. Certainly better than what I've had at Piehole-- the dough and ingredients taste fresher. It's up there with Guido's, but Guido's is cheaper. Wiseguy and Guido's are so close together that a more able-bodied person should be able to literally crawl between the two places. If their intentions to set up shop so close to Guido's were to tackle Guido's head on, then they've failed with me. I noticed that their pies are bigger and cheaper than what they offer at their Sun Valley locations, and it's a better deal pricewise and qualitywise than the outlandishly-priced pizza places in town like New York Richie's and Lulu's. But you're still looking at paying $4 more for a 20" pepperoni than Guido's, and Guido's 18" cheese is only $.50 more than Wiseguy's 14" cheese. So what exactly is my incentive for ditching Guido's? There isn't any for me, but there are some differences worth mentioning. --Unlike Guido's, they do deliver. --They stay open until 3:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays to offer an option for the 6th & Main drunkards. --The menu is a little more expansive with calzones, sandwiches, buffalo wings, and more salad options. --Beer on tap. --Credit cards accepted. (Update: Guido's accepts cards now, so scratch that off of the list) Despite the differences, it all boils down to the pizza for me, and that's where they lose out. I haven't had much success with calzones in town, so I wanted to try theirs. It only comes in one size. It tasted good, with the dough having the same freshness as their pizza. But this was the thinnest, dinkiest calzone I've ever ordered from a restaurant. It might feed a person or two with minimal appetites, but I think it deserves to be under their appetizer menu instead. It definitely did not cure my hunger. They tried to be cute/creative by forming the dough around the accompanying cup of marinara, but I would've preferred more sustenance instead of leaving a hole in the middle of my calzone. If they ever offer a larger option and don't mark up the price too steeply, I would be willing to give it another go. The quality IS there, but comparatively speaking the value is not. If they want to take a look at Guido's pricing and match, then that would make for an interesting battle. Otherwise this place is completely superfluous for me unless I want a slice at 2 AM. read more

I was simply not impressed. My dad, brother and I ordered a pick up of a large fat guy and a large Greek and I was disappointed, especially after a pretty good experience at the Ketchum location. The service was fine for take out but I could get a better pizza at Pizza Hut. Nothing tasted bad, in fact it barely tasted at all. I don't care for meat on my pizza but there were so few toppings on the fat guy that it didn't even phase me. Same deal with the Greek. In fact I brought half of the large Greek pizza home and forgot about it; and let me tell you I am not the kind of girl to forget about a pizza. It wasn't awful but also not stunning. You probably won't die if you eat here but you probably won't be that stoked either. read more

Was really excited when I read awhile back that Wiseguy Pizza was opening in Boise because A) we were moving to Boise B) We loved Wiseguy so much up in Ketchum. JP already made 2 visits to Wiseguy Boise while I was still in Seattle and gave it a thumbs up so imagine my disappointment when we went Monday night for pizza and a beer. It wasn't at all what I remember loving in Ketchum. We ordered a house salad and the Fun Guy. Salad was fine but the pizza was mediocre at best. The sauce tasted a bit on the sugary/sweet side and the crust was a bit soggy towards the bottom of the slices. I ended up adding salt to my pizza and I never do that. Beer selection is decent although I was surprised that they still had the Ninkasi Spring Reign in 22oz bottles since it is a seasonal. Not busy enough to sell out of a seasonal beer? I hope that isn't the case because I do want to give these guys another try especially since I was such a big fan of theirs in Ketchum. Perhaps the key is to do a long mountain bike ride and then show up for grub. Maybe that's what made me love the SV location so much. Location is central on Main Street and they have plenty of indoor/outdoor seating (although the al fresco dining is adjacent to a parking lot). With so many pizza places in Boise these guys need to step it up a bit. And I really hope they do. read more

Realizing I would be 5 minutes past I was nervous, but knowing not much would be open past 10 on a weekday I thought it worth a call to see if they would make me a pizza if I could pick it up late. This pizza was quite tasty, and substantially better than the other 'by the slice' competitor in town. I tried 3 different varieties, all of which were delicious. My girlfriend and I went on what appeared to be a calmer afternoon. They only drawback to this place, is that for 3 pieces at 11.00 (close to a full pizza), a little bit more freshness could be reasonably expected. Most of the pizzas looked like they had been waiting on the racks for quite some time. Perhaps this problem could be remedied by coming at a busier time, but fresh pizza should not be unreasonable at such a price. Overall, still tasted great, outdoor seating was nice, and staff was friendly, just wish they did not overstock so heavily on the pizza which then results in so many pies left to dry in the air. read more

I was visiting family over Easter weekend in Boise and we decided to walk downtown and see what we could find. I had my three kids and wife with me. They are all 11 or under, so our options can be limited at times. We decided to try Wise Guys Pizza. The atmosphere is hipsterish, but spacious. They offer many different pies, but we went with the usual pepperoni. My wife got a salad. Best part was 1$ Raniers and Pabsts. Hey also had other craft brews on tap. The pizza was decent. My wife loves the salad, it was packed with feta. The pizza was a thin slice, the crust was mostly crispy. The sauce was a little bland though. It arrived quickly however, so that was a plus with the kids. I heard some people talking about the lunch special that comes with a free beer. Decent price, seemed like a good place to hang out and have some beer and pizza. We only tried pepperoni though, so keep that in mind. My wife thought it was pretty tasty. I have ventured out and tried their unique pizza offerings - not all of them were my favorite tasting slices but they were always high quality slices. Then I branched out and had their Philly Sandwich - it is pretty freaking good! It always hurts to pay $9+ for a sandwich but after adding peppers and mushrooms I am never disappointed. Recently moved to Boise from the East Coast so I know what good pizza tastes like. I gotta say, this is one of closest to true New York style pizza I've had since being here. The dough is crispy on the outside and not greasy and mushy like some other places in the area. Pizza by the slice is available and they have a really good priced lunch special. We also love our buffalo wings on the East Coast, which apparently is not a big deal out here. They have the best wings I've had since being here. I've been on a quest to find good wings and so far they are my favorite. The buffalo flavor is hot, but not too hot, the wings are pretty big, and they're crispy on the outside. They don't taste as artificial and massed produced as Buffalo Wild Wings. The blue cheese is good too. Could use more crumbles in my opinion.
