For everyone complaining about the price. Look where you decided to go. It's all locally sourced and organic! What do you expect? If you don't want to spend $15 on a burger then go to five guys. The food here is incredibly tasty and well portioned. You walk out of this place feeling satisfied but not stuffed and uncomfortable. A disappointing experience start to finish. Hit brunch today. Ordered a cheese burger. $17 ok. I don't mind shelling out cash for good food. Problem 1) you get two choices for temp "some pink" or "no pink." Then they add "the chef recommends 'some pink.' Gee thanks. Most 'chefs' can handle offering rare, med rare, medium, medium well, well and charred as options. I ordered "some pink." Problem 2) fries are an extra ($3)...and they're not even fries. They're home fries. Fine. Problem 3) the burger came. There was a 'hint' that there had once been pink in the middle of my burger. By any other measure this thing was well done. There was cheese on it as ordered - but only technically. Whatever shaving of cheese they may have started with had been melted down to the thinest skim coat over the burger. Could not taste it at all. Can't prove that the cheese was microwaved after the fact - it may not have been. But it would explain...(see below) Problem 4) this thing was bone dry, grainy/gritty, and without any flavor. There was no discernible seasoning - not even basic salt and pepper. Problem 5) the home fries were a half shade shy of burnt. Not enjoyable. Problem 6) The metal cups for the water smelled. Like...that smell when your dishwasher leaves plates and cups smelling 'off.' Stale. Off-smelling. I left feeling bummed and wishing I had ordered something else. Four entrees with home fries and drinks $100 incl tip. I can't imagine going back but if I do I'm ordering the BLT which looked pretty good. read more

Birthday Bliss Breakfast not so much.... The morning of my bday I was hoping to have a yummy and fun birthday experience. This did not happen at Wise Acre Eatery. The good: Wise Acre has a great patio! Their hot sauce is amazing!!! I also appreciate their mission of growing everything sold in their establishment. The not so good: service was mediocre. The assistant server/water filler was not friendly. She did not say hello nor "your welcome" while tending to our table. The taste of the food was bland. The hot sauce was my saving grace! Lastly, the menu is not very vegetarian friendly . I should have done my research prior to agreeing to this dining experience. It was a warm, humid night and rain was threatening. Perhaps that's why those who would otherwise have preferred to dine outside were jammed into the cozy, homespun place that is Wise Acre Eatery --and created a noise level that was almost unbearable. Wise Acre's concept is solid: most of the food served is grown on the owner's farm. You can taste the difference, and it's quite good, some exceptionally good. The burger, for example, was superb. The Local Cheese Trio, served with bread and spicy honey was very tasty, as was the Cabbage Dolmas (although it would have been nice to have included a cutting knife to make it easier to share). However, the cold cucumber soup, served with a topping of olive oil, lacked chunks of diced cucumber, and flavor. The dinner entrés, while diverse, appear limited to one menu item with chicken, one item with beef (not counting the burger), and one item of pork. A veggie platter is available, as is only one salad. The service was friendly and efficient, and the waitstaff handled the customer crush with ease. The "Big Plates" with protein range in price from around $27 to $29, which seems a bit rich. Perhaps that's what it costs to provide "Farm to Fork". Is it worth a visit? Yes, especially if you want to support local food sourcing and experience delicious food. But with the limited menu choices and the noise level, it will be a while before we return. read more

Dear Wise Acre, Your concept is pretty awesome. Farm to table; i get it. However, we need to have a meeting about a few things. First off, you need to have a heart-to-heart with your servers. I'm not sure if they're all related (that's the sense I got) but it only takes one of them to ruin my experience right off the bat. Nothing extreme, just some rude glares and a noticeable distaste for their jobs which rubbed me the wrong way. What did I ever do to you, counter-lady? Second, if you serve one person a hot dog from your lunch menu, don't go and tell the next person from that party that you can't serve them a hot dog because they're sitting outside. INCONSISTENCY! And third. Really, and I mean really, evaluate your prices against the "tastiness" of your food. I understand the prices have to be a bit higher because it's coming from "the farm," but come on...over $12 for a damn hotdog with some crappy coleslaw and I am thus unimpressed. The space is absolutely beautiful with moss planters on the wall (they own the greenhouse next door which helps explain it) and gorgeous wood grain tables with Restoration Hardware-esque chairs. The little things matter, you guys. All of the food is farm-to-table fresh, and fellow vegetarians, the black bean burger is tops. Always order French fries and even if you're not a big condiment person, dip them in rhubarb ketchup--trust. This place had been on my radar for AGES and finally I was in the area over lunch time, so I went to check it out. Was able to get seated right away, as I arrived right before the crowd. Small space, small parking lot but charming and cute. I already knew what I wanted based upon instagram photos, so I ordered the sumemr salad with bacon. It came out pretty quickly and was GORGEOUS. I mean, every color of the rainbow including a pink pickled egg and purple cauliflower. The baocn on top was enormous and very good. I am not a huge bacon junkie but this was legit. Service was awesome- fast and very nice and friendly without being in your face or too distant. When I left there was a line formed, so definitely get here early. Very healthy and delicious food. The only downside was my salad was $17 and contained just a small amount of actual protein, but the ingredients are very fresh and high quality. read more

Great ambience. The place had an open, light, airy field, and I loved the garage doors (very Brasa-like) and open feel. As a gardener, I loved the beautiful plants both inside and out. That said, I wasn't there for the greenery. Unfortunately, overall, it was one thumbs up (and one down). First, we had large party (10), and while we were seated right away (Yeah!), the owner was a bit snarky about it. The good thing is the service was much better than the previous reviews had mentioned. However, I found the food to be lacking. I had the famous brie bacon burger, which was supposed to be very popular. While it was cooked perfectly to a medium rare, it was overall, lacking in flavor. I found it to be bland and actually had to salt it (I'm an anti-salt person, in general). Overall, the burger was too expensive for being so poorly done - dry and flavorless. And what's up with the fries? They were basically rock hard potato sticks. Too skinny, burnt, and rock hard. It was a shame, as I really wanted to use up the yummy rhubarb ketchup! I found myself craving a greasy Jucy Lucy from Matt's and fries from McD. That said, I will give a great shout out to for the bread and bacon butter dish - this was incredible and very creative. Stopped here for brunch last weekend and decided I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand, the decor and general feel is so "pinteresty" you can't help but be mesmerized the second you walk in. On the other hand, the food took so long to come out I almost forgot where I was and why I was there. I swear I was there for over two hours from when I sat down to when the bill was paid. The menu had a solid array of dishes ranging from French toast to brioche bun burgers. I was able to try the CSA Hash (lots of grilled veggies, slightly bland eggs, and a big fat slab of delicious bacon), burger (fresh patty, thick bacon, chewy bun), and bomb french fries with the most amazing homemade ketchup. Our servers were very kind, food was decent, and ambiance was wonderful but I can't justify a better rating for this place because there is just no excuse for the food come out that slow. Yes, farm to table food is great...but not when it means you have to wait for a chicken to lay an egg for your hash. Jk there wasn't a chicken there but it felt like I waited an eternity for some grilled veggies and scrambled eggs. It honestly took over two hours. I really enjoyed this place. Came in early evening on a Saturday and it was packed, but it didn't take long to get a table. I ordered a beer and sat outside on their really sweet patio and relaxed on an adirondack chair. This nice feature won't be very usable come winter, but it's nice for half the year at least. Once seated I got a tasty burger with brie and bacon. Everything was perfect and really enjoyable. OH! And the ketchup, I almost forgot the ketchup. It changes based on the season, and this time it was pumpkin based. I enjoyed it more than tomato ketchup, and that's saying a lot because I devour ketchup like it's going out of style. The server told us that most of the food was local and from the owner's farm. He also informed us that the menu changes roughly every 5 weeks. This place is really cute, but a little cramped. OK, so the place isn't even open yet to the general public. Tonight was one of the "soft opening" events they held to train staff, and since my partner and I know folks who work at Wise Acre, we were invited as special guests and also as guinea pigs, sorta. :-) Well, there were a few bobbles. The fries aren't perfect yet, but they promised they will work on that. They couldn't open the bar section yet, because the finish on the bar was still drying. But that's pretty small stuff, really; at least it is to me. The food itself was really good. We split a salad that was exceptional. A dining companion got a cup of soup that he let us taste-- also very good. My braised-beef entree made people's eyes roll back in their heads with pleasure, and my partner had a bacon-and-brie burger that was VERY good. For dessert we had frozen custard topped with granola and a drizzle of maple syrup. Small and sweet and a perfect end to a meal. If they keep up like that I think they'll have plenty of business. Best day ever. My parents came to visit today for a walk around Harriet followed by lunch at Wise Acre. First off, the decor, holy crap the ferns surrounding the room are adorable and so perfect considering the restaurant is right across from Tangletown. I got The Great Scott, a meatloaf sandwich with a side of carrot mashed potatoes and their A-mazing balsamic ketchup, It was so good. My parents had The Brie and Bacon Burger which came with fries and this superb wild rice slaw. There was not a morsel left on anyone's plates. We got the Sundae of the Day which was decadent with its thick, chocolatey brownie and the salted caramel sauce on top. Wise Acre only serves beer and wine so I could not get my signature Bloody but they made up for it with their stellar beer list chocked full of local brews. It's hard to believe that Wise Acre Eatery has been open for 4 years now! I've been a regular diner at this establishment from the beginning and have always been impressed by their cutting edge historical culinary practices (yes, that appears to sound like a conflict). They are one of the very few restaurants who not only grow most of their produce, but also raise the animals that are part of their old-classics-meets-modern cuisine, and anything else that they do bring in they source locally (like the dairy from Castle Rock Creamery in WI). There are so many interesting things to look at here! They have their living wall of plants (they're owned by the Tangletown Gardens across the street), fun wall hangings, and one-of-a-kind table adornments. My favorite time to dine at Wise Acre is during the warmer months outside on the patio. Even when it gets crisper in the fall, they have their heat lamps running and can get a hot cup of their Evening in Missoula tea (I was first introduced to this TeaSource brand tea at this restaurant and immediately made an emotional bond to it). The meal that does not disappoint is their Royal Brie & Bacon Burger. Brie. Bacon. The burger is just an added frill. I always ask for them cook my burger as rare as legally possible. Much juicier that way, you know. I've often ordered their CSA hashes, but there's something lacking in the hardiness factor, yet I still seem to order it. And sometimes it just depends on who's cooking your meal that day. Sometimes the bacon "steak" that comes with the hash is charred. I can guarantee that bacon "steak" does not crisp...ever...much too thick. Visually and texturally, it's basically a slab of ham. In fact, it would be greatly improved if those "steaks" down into the characteristic thickness of bacon that we've all come to know and love. Another wonderfully unique point to this restaurant is that they render and sell their own pastured lard! Oh how I wish they would fry their fries in it though! While I'm a big proponent for quality animals fats in deep fryers (these kind of fats don't oxidize and become rancid as quickly as the canola, soybeans, and other "vegetable" oils out there), they have continued to upgrade from once using to currently using Smude's cold-pressed sunflower oil (MN-based company). The setting can work for kids, but seems more like a place for adults to gather. This is a place that is always changing and evolving; one of the main reasons I delight in coming back to dine over and over again! read more

So I ordered something that I didn't get at all and I tipped my usual 25% before I knew this...they didn't care. Won't be back..please don't hijack my food. You're over-priced... The food was delicious and came out really fast! I ordered the French toast. It had granola and raisins in it with a sour cream topping! Yum! My husband had the csa hash which was also equally as delicious. They used local veggies! For drinks, I didn't try the coffee, but I had some fresh squeezed orange juice! I wanted to love this place. Beautiful vibe. Little grocery store inside with great products. We waited an hour for a breakfast bowl and a hot dog. The first waiter we asked to check on our order said he was too busy, and did not get back to us. The second staff member brought out the breakfast bowl and several minutes later the hotdog arrived. The breakfast bowl was so salty I could not eat most of it. They offered to comp a dessert. We said no thanks because by then we were pretty sour on the place. First off, the design and decor of this place is great. The atmosphere is super cool and probably even better when the weather warms up and they can open up the patio doors. We chose to sit at the bar because all the tables were full and the wait was supposed to be 30 min. After one drink, a table opened up and our server seated us. We started with the pickle plate. I'm a huge fan of all things pickled and this was quite a treat (and a great way to start off dinner). I had the Spring Borscht and my wife ventured out to try the Leeks and Lilies. The Borscht was a pot roast type dish that was very flavorful and yet very earthy at the same time. It was really good, but you have to be in the right mood for it. Very nice patio and excellent fresh food! We sat on the patio one last night with our dogs. They had the heaters on but we were still a little chilly. The ambiance is quiet and relaxing. The server Siro was awesome, friendly, and made great suggestions and told us the portion sizes. She and the other server were very attentive and accommodating. Most all of the food is homemade and farm fresh to table. Of course, we had to try the fresh beef pot roast! It was very tender and juicy but my husband added some salt to add flavor. My daughter and I had the special of the night, lasagne. We shared it because it was 2 large pieces. It was warm but not hot. It was delicious. I ordered a large chili that was awesome and had a spicy kick of flavor. Our one daughter ordered a Plato salad that had an excellent variety of salad and veggies. The veg burger was a little dry as well as the bun that it came on. Large variety of beverages available. The canned beverage I chose was a blend of ACV, basil, & sugar, and it was delicious. Drink made by Siren Shrub, a company in Stevens Point, WI. Its a laid back place with a relaxed patio atmosphere, & cold water offered in a serve yourself container. Recommend taking a peak in the market for their local items, which include fresh meat cuts and jarred goodies. Patio was dog friendly with some shady areas.
