I visited Contacts & Specs over a decade ago (probably actually close to 14 years?) and I really liked Dr. Buete. My significant other needed an exe exam--badly--but drags his feet on this sort of thing like no one else unless you practically hold him down and dial for him. I mentioned that although I hadn't been to Wink, I had liked Dr. Buete when she did my exam at C&S and the only reason I hadn't gone to her is because there were so many optometrists closer to Ravenswood (my neighborhood). This is a nice practice. The front desk staffer was nice and helpful, talking to me about different frames, just chatting and being friendly. The other man who fitted my SO's glasses was... not. I found him to be somewhat aloof and almost like he was annoyed by my presence. I was trying on some glasses myself because I would like a new set of frames, in addition to hopefully getting my old frames set with new lenses. But he made me feel like my trying on frames was a burden to him. Maybe because t sanitize them before placing them back? But I watched him so that and it took all of 60 seconds... and I was there for an hour when there were no other customers and only a single call came in. That single interaction is enough to have put me off from coming here if I not for the other person and having interacted with the doctor before. The person I was with liked him, though, for what it's worth. They have an average to good selection (in quantity, that is) of frames. I'm a HUGE fan of a true cat-eye frame, with distinct, pointed corners, and those are hard to find sometimes, but they did have a few pairs here. (Eyewear manufacturers, get on this, I want more variety!) Dr. Buete is an excellent doctor. My SO had an appointment with an ophthalmologist scheduled for September, after not having going since prior to the pandemic; he actually should visit at least a couple times per year. That was the earliest appointment that was available at the Northwestern group that he The doctor thought he should get in sooner than over 3 months from now and she offered to reach out to a physician she knew to see about an earlier appointment. She personally called the next day to let him know that she'd scheduled an appointment for him in July. I was really impressed by that. The place is really clean and I appreciate their COVID measures. They require masks (yep, even in June 2022, which is a positive in my book) and they sanitize frames after you try them on so you can rest assured. Parking isn't terrible in this location but maybe Thursday around 7 was the key. Wink is shortlisted for where I'll to get my eye exam in a couple months. read more

My eyes have been fine for a while, but as I got closer to my 40s, I decided that it was time to establish an optometrist relationship to get a baseline. The team at Wink was great. I have not been to the eye doctor for a few years. A friend recommended Wink so I gave it a try. The space is really nice, and I felt like my doctor (Dr. Beute) really went in depth with the exam. As it turned out I did not need new glasses, and my current prescription was fine. She did not try to upsell me anything or con me into getting new glasses, which I thought was really nice. I would recommend Wink to others and will return in year or two to see if my eyes are still working. read more

I am going through Wink withdrawals. I started a new job in July 2010, and in early November when I called to make my yearly eye exam Brian had to inform me that Wink does not accept my new plan. Doh! Rather than try to persuade me to visit out-of-network, he was understanding and helpful. He emailed me a scanned copy of my records to take to my new doctor, and he also offered to recommend a few doctors to me if I could send him a list of optometrists in-network from my insurance company. There are not many businesses out there who will be compassionate about losing business! Next year I plan to set aside enough pre-tax dollars in my FSA account to pay out-of-network so I can go back to see Dr. Beute and Brian. They're worth it! read more

All I know is I've been a patient of Dr. Buete's for a zillion years, from back when she was at Contax and Spex (I don't know if it's spelled with two 'x's, but I know there's one in there somewhere) Anyway, Contaxx and Spexxx , was okay, but a lil' too hip. (Almost felt like they were gonna make me pay cover to get in.) But she is / was always super cool... And genuinely interested in what's goin' on with me. She even came to see me perform a couple years back! So, now I go to Wink. I even bring my dog sometimes. It's real dog friendly, 'cause she's got HER dog there! One time... I don't even think I was officially her patient at Wink yet... But I had an "eye emergency", called HER, and she talked me through it - gave me her cell phone even. So izzallgood. read more

As a longtime "4-eyed" gal - I take my eye care very seriously. I first met Dr. Beute and Brian when they were at Contacts & Specs...which is down the street from my house. When learned that they both left to start this new practice I was thrilled to be one of their first customers @ Wink. Dr. Beute is top notch...nothing gets past her. As a person with MS, it's important that I trust my doctor to monitor the health of my optic nerve and she has never let me down. She continues to fine-tune my prescription and never, ever loses patience with me as I continually seek out the perfect contact lens. Brian is absolutely fantastic. Dr. Stacie was very professional & patient with all my questions. It had been probably 5-6 years since my last exam. My least favorite part of any exam is the glaucoma test (air blow) yet she made it quick and painless. I'd previously thought I had an astigmatism only in my left eye but she determined it is in both. The staff was great in helping determine what style of eyewear best fit the shape of my face. I told the young man (Bryan?) i was interested in rimless frames and decided on a pair of Humphrey's, only bad thing was they did not have the sunglass clips. We have one child in glasses. He got a pair at Lyons eye care last year that were bad from the get go. We were both excited to get a new pair for this school year. Wink got us in right away for an exam. Took care of filing our insurance. Even more impressive,they stayed on hold for 20 plus minutes making sure of our benefits and coverage with our insurance company. Re:eye exam The doctor was amazing! She's great with kids! She was very thorough and on time. No waiting at all. The receptionist was very sweet. She instantly started chatting with me and helped my son decide which classes to get. Re:glasses My son is in a lot of sports and a typical boy. They took the time to show which glasses are most durable and even pulled up another kids line on the web for him to check out. He was a bit indecisive but they never got annoyed or short with him. Great location. Great staff. Quality products. Can't get much better than that! read more

I have been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old and I have never seen a team that cares about your optical health like Dr. Beute and Brian. I followed them from their previous location in Lakeview. Dr. Beute is thorough and so nice during the exam and Brian will go out of his way to make sure that you are happy with your glasses. A case in point is a couple of years ago when my glasses arrived. I tried them on and due to the strength of the lenses, I was so unhappy with them. Without missing a beat, Brian said, "Back to the drawing board." We scrapped those and started over again to find something that I would be happy with. There was no extra charge for the wasted lenses or his time. That is what I call service. You get what you pay for in this world, and Wink Optical is worth every penny that you spend with them. read more

I highly recommend Wink Optical. The Wink team is always willing to go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and happy with your choices. Dr. Beute is outstanding. I hate getting eye exams, but Dr. Beute makes them as pleasant as possible. She explains everything she is doing to ease exam fears and definitely understands those who are fearful of eye exams. Not all optometrists are gentle with your eyes, but Dr. Beute certainly is. Nina, the optician, is also wonderful. She has a great eye for style and knows what will look good on you even before you do! I just moved to Chicago and was lucky enough to have Wink Optical right around the corner from me. I commute from Schaumburg and had a late night appointment which I was late for due to traffic. Brian squeezed me in right at the end of the night! The service was great. The Dr. Beute let me test my non-corrected eye sight even though it was late and not part of my exam. Brian and Dr. Beute were patient with me as I picked out a frame and helped me make my final selection. I love this place. Last year, I went to Lenscrafters and completely felt as though I was a number. I tried Wink out this year and couldn't have asked for better service. Dr. Beute was amazing. She wasn't rushing throughout the exam and was extremely friendly. The decor of Wink is immaculate and they had a good selection of glasses. The optician, Brian, is great. He pulled a bunch of glasses down and tried them on me to see which fit and looked the best. I truly felt they had my best interest in mind. I can only comment on the optical service as I have my eyes examined elsewhere. Brian is informed, interested, involved and is willing to offer opinions about specific frames, both from an appearance and quality standpoint. He is sensitive to pricing as well and does not push the expensive frames. Though turnaround time is not the same as at the 2 hour places, the quality of the product, attention to detail and personalized service make it worth the wait. This is a small place so the selection is not huge, but there is great variety in styles, brands and prices. I have been wearing glasses since I was 3 (no need to tell you my age but let's just say I know where I was when Kennedy was assassinated), and Wink is definitely worth a visit. read more

I stopped in today to check out their frames. The sales guy was super helpful and friendly. He picked out a lot of great frames for me to try and a couple are still in contention. While I was trying on their beautiful frames I was able to meet the doc as well. She was really cheery and nice. In the end I thought I'd like to keep looking around. They were really nice about it and wrote down the names of the frames I liked the best. My first impression of Wink Optical is that they've got cool frames, great customer service and no pressure. I wish I could give Wink like fifty thousand stars. But five will have to do. Glasses guy--who I am now fairly certain is also called Brian--is my bff. He totally remembered us from like nine months ago, so he must feel the same. ;) I've been wearing glasses pretty much every day since I was six (except an awkward phase in middle school when I wore contacts half the time), so glasses are a *big* deal for me. Brian was patient with me (more patient than Mister... ;) while I wandered around, covering his table with glasses, taking them off, and then scattering around the same ones. He backed off when I was looking on my own, and made some helpful suggestions when I was confused. He also offered me a pair of contacts to try on frames, which was super-helpful. And he didn't grudge me for rejecting the offer at first and then taking him up on it later, either. ;) He is very easygoing and friendly, and you can tell he knows what he's doing and enjoys his work. For me, that makes a real difference. Also, for me it kind of helps that there's only one of him, honestly. I've been to lots of places where they have more than one person trying to sell you glasses, and they keep saying to each other "don't those look nice on her? I think those look nice" "oh, yeah, those are great!" and it's really confusing--are they trying to scam you, or do they really like the frames? Brian gives opinions, but I never felt like I was trying on wedding dresses. XD After abouuuut 45 minutes, I managed to decide on some I liked. (Actually I'd decided on like five I liked, but it was basically down to some really expensive ones and some not-so-expensive ones ;). He asked if we still had the same insurance, which we didn't, and we told him we have this not-so-hot discount program with an insurance Wink doesn't take. Buuuut he said he could match the discount program's rates anyhow! :) On top of that, he gave us another discount, which made them exactly the same price as a pair I wasn't so keen on that I nearly got bullied into buying somewhere else, using the insurance discount thing. One other random thing I like about Wink is that they have plenty of full-length mirrors (and table mirrors, too). I really liked being able to see what I looked like in different frames from a few paces back--it actually makes a real difference, and it's the way you'll look in photos, too (and to people who generally aren't "all up in your grill," really). I am so, so excited about my new glasses, and I can't wait to wear them...every day. :D read more

I'd haven't had a good experience with optometrists in the past so when I moved to Chicago and needed a check up, I was a little hesitant. I didn't really know anyone here so they couldn't recommend a place so I turned to Yelp and Yelp doesn't lie. I'm really happy with finding Wink Optical and don't think I could have chosen a better place. Staff is super friendly and honest and informative. They've answered all my questions. And sometimes I think I'm a pain, especially this time around since I needed my glasses adjusted a couple times but they were more than happy. And even offered me better nose pads for my glasses that will help them stay on better. It's a little out of my way to get to but I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more
