I needed my prescription sunglasses adjusted and wanted to check their prices for new glasses. Thank you Stephanie Shots for adjusting my glasses on the spot and cleaning them up for me! Stephanie was busy but got Dave to assist me in looking at some eyewear that was more affordable. Even though they carry mostly designer glasses they do have an affordable line collection. What I really liked about Dave was that he helped guide me in which glasses he thought would be best for my face. If I tried on a pair that didn't look great he was honest and told me no those won't work for your face. With his assistance I found an affordable frame that I am in love with!! I wouldn't give anything but 5 start for this place or even more If yelp let me do it. I ended up here under emergency circumstances. My eyes were swollen due to some reaction to my contacts I guess, I weren't able to see anything. We rushed to this place as it is closest option from work. I didn't have an appointment, as we walked in my husband explained my situation to the staff and asked if there's a way they could squeeze me in for emergency consultation. Luckily, one lady who had her appointment agreed to let me in. Doctor was very thorough and examined around all the concerning aspects. She was very patient and attentive. Even after going home, we tried reaching her and she did return my call asking about the progress of the situation and how medication is working. I did follow up a schedule later and even that visit went super well. The staff who work here are very welcoming and friendly. Less wait time compared to other places I've been. I found my go-to optometrist, and this place is in the loop! When it comes to eyesight, I try my best to take care of my eyes because I'm bordering legally blind status here. To put it in perspective, without my contacts and glasses, you would look like one big skin-colored blob to me with no facial features. The space inside isn't that big, so you might not get a huge selection for glasses compared to other places. They only have one room for the exam. I've only been here for contact lenses and eye exams. What's nice is that you can schedule an appointment online, and I was able to get a same-day appointment. If only all medical practices offered such feature. I saw Dr. Genna Higbee on my most recent eye exam visit, and she was very nice, personable, and knowledgeable. She made it a comfortable experience, especially the dreaded part where a sudden puff of air hits your eye unexpectedly. During this visit, I also had my eyes dilated. They give you two options for the eye dilation: good old-fashioned eye drops (one drop in each eye) or high-tech retinal scanner at an additional cost. I opted for the eye drops because I can take it like a woman. I always get a free travel-sized bottle of Biotrue contact solution each time I visit, which is an added bonus. I never have billing issues here either, so overall I'm sold to become a loyal patron. read more

I'm seriously smitten with my new glasses and the service at Custom Eyes was fantastic. Nicole helped me find the perfect pair of black frames my eyeglasses collection was missing. After trying on a handful of pairs that either I, Nicole, or one of the other employees suggested I narrowed it down to two or three Lindburgh frames. I came back another day and with input from I think everyone in the store I finally decided on the frame I liked. But the color/frame combination I wanted had to be ordered. I was going back and forth between the black to clear fade and a very pretty navy blue they already had in the store. I didn't want to order the wrong one and be disappointed when they showed up. Nicole said she could order the black and I could decide between the two when they were both in the store. Perfect! When I went to pick up my new frames Nicole adjusted them to the perfect fit. She also adjusted the frames I had worn into the store that day (which are almost 20 years old) and now they fit well too. I clearly have more glasses than anyone needs, but I'm sure next time I "need" a new pair I'll be heading to Custom Eyes. read more

I had thee best experience and keep getting compliments for my glasses. I made an appointment and I got in an out in 30 minutes since I just went in for an eye exam. I love just black boring thick rimmed glasses.Even though I came in with something boring and plain in mind. Rusty had me try different styles and really knew what went with my face & style. I dropped in to purchase a new pair of frames, prescription in hand. Nothing else. I was politely greeted and when I mentioned to the gentleman waiting on me I wanted a certain pair of frames, I was immediately told I don't want those and was handed numerous styles of glasses I explicitly said I didn't like and wasn't interested in. When I finally located the brand I was interested in, Moscot, the gentleman's tone changed and he simply walked away. After getting his attention to provide me the glasses I was interested in, he handed me several other types of glasses. Upon responding that I wasn't interested in those, he told me, "I don't think you came here to make a decision today, once you're confident in what you want, you can come back then." I LOVED my experience with Custom Eyes! I mostly worked with Stephanie who I felt went way above and beyond in her customer service. All of the people working there were happy, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. My eye appointment with Grant was thorough and informative- I hadnt had an eye appointment in years and he was very patient with my many questions. When picking out my frame Stephanie never rushed me to get to someone else and worked with me to find the perfect one. She measured where my eyes naturally looked through the glass - as opposed to simply making the correction in the center of the lense they make it where your eye will actually look. I never experienced that before and it seems like common sense! Their frame selection is extremely well curated and I feel like I got glasses I could not find anywhere else. I used to live in Chicago and comeback to visit often. When I do, I go to Custom Eyes. I've visited two doctors here and both were great. They have a carefully curated selection of glasses and their staff are able to help you find a flattering frame for your face. Stephanie has helped me many times and she can always find a frame that looks good on me and I do not, in general, look good in glasses. She has a gift. They've also worked with my prescription and found contact lenses that work for my difficult eyes. I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to wear contacts again until they helped me. All in all, this is an impressive business with excellent doctors and customer service. read more

Overall my appointment felt rushed as if they were low on time. I have a very strong prescription that requires medically necessary contact lenses to be manufactured to order. They told me I could pay extra to avoid having my eyes dilated using a new machine, which I was pumped about, but then later after hearing my medical history, dilated my eyes anyway and still charged me for the other service. They also told me that I needed to replace my lenses twice as often as recommended by my previous optometrist and the manufacturer's website. I pointed that out and the lady behind the counter just said that's what they've been telling their other customers who use the same contacts. It seemed pretty disingenuous and perhaps as if they're trying to make more money somehow, without offering any real benefit to their patients. read more

Every single time I have come here, I have had such an excellent experience! I have come in for contact lens fitting and have bought my past few years of contacts supply at this location. Most recently, I was looking for new frames and the Opticians in the front are AMAZING. Stephanie is the reason I choose to keep coming back to custom eyes, and after my experience getting my new, amazing frames I am on cloud 9! The color frames I wanted were not in stock for me to try on, and Stephanie really went above and beyond to help me make sure I picked the right frames and got the color I wanted. She even coordinated to make sure that my lenses were ordered so that once I'd settled on a color, my frames could be ready sooner than later. It is typically a pain to get new contacts or glasses but Stephanie made the whole experience wonderful. Dr. McEneaney was great--she told me all I needed to know, took into consideration some other medical information and was really down to Earth. I felt very comfortable talking to her, and wouldn't hesitate to call on her if I had any serious issues (this time I was just in for a vision test/annual checkup). The selection of frames here is also amazing. You can tell the buyers really care about style but take into consideration what will look good on average people. Every time I go to look for glasses, I try on plastic frames and they look horrendous. I easily found 8 plastic frames that look good on me, so it looks like for the first time in my life I'll have them! And I can't say enough about the front office staff. They're very knowledgeable about the products and what will look good on you. From the first pair I tried on to the last, nothing they put on my face looked bad. I've been wearing contacts and glasses for years. 23 years to be exact and I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Custom Eyes. I walked in and the gal at the front desk was SO friendly, another gentleman greeted me and introduced me to the eye doctor. The appointment was painless and quick. I absolutely DREAD the test where they pop the quick burst of air into your eyes and I have to say it was quick and not as intense as what it normally is. My doctor was VERY well versed in contacts and my astigmatism. He recommended a very fitting pair (no pun intended) and I've been wearing them for a week now and have found them to be the most comfortable pair I've ever worn. Normally I wear really thick contacts that attempt to hug my eye and in result they get dry, feel uncomfortable and shift around so much that I cannot see clearly. The solution that this doctor recommended has proven to make my life so much easier and comfortable. I also have to say, the knowledge that one of the gentlemen had in glasses and shapes of faces was astonishing. I've never been to an optometrist and had someone have the skill in looking at my face and picking out glasses that fit my face perfectly. It's always so awkward trying on glasses and then not looking good in them. Brian was a pro at finding the right colors, shapes and nuances in the glasses to make me look great! I will DEFINITELY go back to Custom Eyes again. I'm so excited that they are growing as a company. She was on-time, patient and thorough. During my last visit, Dr. Goble conducted my appointment. I feared no one could match Dr. Haq's professionalism - I was wrong. My mom and I have bought glasses for a few years now and also have gotten eye exams. This is the best managed glasses store in Chicago and the whole team is nice and knows what they're doing. I've come in several times with bent glasses and they fix them every time. The pricing is worth the quality and the warranties they have you can't beat. I have recently had many more experiences at Custom Eyes than I would like due to dry and inflamed eyes, but despite the bad situation, I have been very impressed (most times). First visit was late last fall when Dr. McEneany was filling in and my experience was less than pleasant. Long story short, a system error caused my appointment to be double-booked with someone who happened to be a long-standing patient of hers. She was nothing but rude to me, complaining about the staff and making me feel as though I was a major inconvenience to her schedule [note: it took approximately 7.5 minutes to diagnose why my eyes were dry and inflamed and to prescribe medication]. As I walked out to the front desk, she greeted her next patient and was nothing but apologetic and friendly. Cool. But really, the cool part is that Stephanie, at the front desk, felt so horrible for 1) the way the doctor was behaving, and 2) the fact that I was waiting 15 minutes beyond my original appointment time, that she didn't charge me for the visit. Custom Eyes is GREAT about getting you in on time and out in a reasonable amount of time. Totally do-able on a lunch break or even an afternoon coffee break, if your office is close. The next step was the eye exam. Dr. Haq (who had seen me for my follow-up visit for the eye inflammation and was already 100x better than Dr. McE...) was very thorough, professional, and kind. I look forward to seeing her for my regular eye exams. Fast forward to this spring and my eyes are inflamed again. Dr. Crumbliss prescribed some drops last week and saw me this week to check the progress. He took the time to show me a better contact solution option for my sensitive eyes and provided a sample as well. On the way out, I asked Diana at the front desk to help me find out how much my insurance would cover if I were to buy a new pair of glasses. She was extremely helpful in describing the best option for my strong prescription and showing me the breakdown of the costs. I am definitely looking forward to picking out some new glasses! Overall, I would recommend Custom Eyes, and I would not recommend Dr. McEneaney. If you want to have your eyes checked by professional, qualified, and thorough but quick doctors, this is your place. read more

I had a great experience with Custom Eyes. First, it was very easy to make an appointment. Second, everyone who works there is wonderful and helpful. I ordered contacts, glasses and sunglasses and all three came in very quickly, way quicker than I had anticipated. They picked out frames for me that I never would have chosen for myself, but was so happy I listened to them because I'm in love with both pairs of glasses I got and get compliments all the time. My eye was irritated and went on Yelp to find a doctor to take a look. The staff was so accommodating. I told them I get off work at 4 and he said the Dr could see me at 4:30 Perfect ! When I got there I met Stephanie who is the best ! ( Thank you ) Dr Grant Goble called me exactly at 4:30 and spent like 15 minutes checking out my eyes. Terrible Customer Service Experience. I knew as soon as I walked in and the two women at the desk didn't say hello or greet me, that it was going to be an unfriendly experience. They didn't speak to me when I walked up to the front desk. In fact, it seemed like they were avoiding my eye contact. I'm dressed normally, I look like a young librarian and work as a professional in the area so it's not like I was a bum walking in off the street. I had to say hello before I got anyone's attention. Its a tiny space so it's not like they could have missed me standing there. They weren't warm, they didn't smile, the woman who checked me in didn't look up at me once, she told me I could take a sit, but didn't point me to where. I just assumed I could sit in the chairs next to the desk. The doctor came out and barely introduced herself and didn't do the typical greeting of a hand shake or anything. She didn't ask me what I came in for even though I specified what I came in for when I booked the appointment so she just jumped into an exam and when she was done and asked me if I wanted to purchase some glasses, I was like, no, I came in for contact lens consultation. She seemed like she was trying to get me out as soon as possible because I told her the trial lens I was wearing were blurry. When I checked out, the ladies at the desk were laughing with a customer so I was confused, like did I do something to these people. So I smiled thinking that I had the wrong impression and nope, again, they avoided eye contact. Told me my total without attempting to tell me what I was being charged for and quickly set me up for a follow-up I didn't want to come back in for. My next trip was even more awkward, I walked in and they were looking at their computers and I didn't want to interrupt them so I waited and it was just me in the space again, and it took about 20 seconds before anyone said hello to me. No welcome to Custom Eyes, no greeting aside from." It will be a minute." This time the doctor was a guy and he was equally awkward. Didn't tell me his name until minutes into appt. He flew through the appt. Handed me a pack of trial contacts because my other lens clearly were not accurate. Then he said, I could call in if those contacts work. I don't have to come back. He walked out of the room and I was like, ...is the follow-up over. Didn't shake my hand or anything. It was so bizarre. I was like, I've never felt so unwelcome ever. I've been to See Eyewear, Target Optical, etc. and have received such kind, warm service. The expectations I have for my experience were gained from the treatment I experience at these places and Custom Eyes just failed. I noticed that I was the only person of color to be visit the space both times so it unfortunately let the impression upon me that it's not a place people of color can/should visit. I will not be calling in or going back. I only went follow-up because they already charged me for the consultant and exam. read more
