Came in for a consultation with no wait time. Everyone was friendly. They provide a lot of educational information about different stages of our eyes as we age which I thought was very helpful. I do recommend doing one or two consultations elsewhere too so you can compare costs and notes to ensure you're getting all the information you need to make a decision. SHARPEVISION will price match. The LASIK procedure itself was fast. About 5 minutes per eye. There was some expected stinging the first 1-2 hours post-op which can be alleviated with some comfort drops that they send you home with. They also provide other eye drops that you will need the next two weeks so that was great. Slept after putting in some comfort drops, and woke up with no discomfort and was able to see 20/20. I've been so hesitant the last few years with getting Lasik, but SharpeVision made it such a easy and seamless process for me. The consultation was free where they checked my vision and determined if i was a candidate for it along with giving me the options/costs (which lasik was best for me). Day of operation took maybe 1-1.5 hours total. Got seated. Checked my vision one last time. Explained what to do/what not to do for the next week. Operation itself took maybe 3-5 minutes or less. My friend had LASIK done here a couple years ago with Dr. Sharpe and had a great experience. He was thrilled with his vision and had no dry eye or any other complications from the procedure. I went ahead and booked a consultation for the following day. As everyone else says, the office is beautiful and the staff makes you feel welcome right when you come in. The consult was incredibly easy and I loved chatting with Dr. Ganesh. I was a little unsure when they told me Dr. Sharpe wouldn't be doing the procedure since he practices in Seattle now, but after reading Dr. Lancaster's bio, I felt more than confident in his ability. However, I was disappointed I didn't get to meet him during the consultation. Nevertheless, I booked the procedure for the earliest time available, which was 4 weeks out. Upon arriving on surgery day, I was given some paperwork to fill out, and loved that they give you the option to open the curtains so other people can watch (which I did). I was disappointed nobody before me did the same thing though, as I wanted to watch too! Anyway, after about 20 minutes I was called back and Dr. Ganesh checked my vision one more time. She said my prescription matched exactly with the one they took during the consultation. She gave me three 5mg tablets of Valium to calm my nerves and help me sleep after. After another 20 minutes or so, my nerves started going away and I just started feeling excited! I could hear the procedures of the people going before me, and couldn't wait for my turn. Finally, Dr. L opened the door and joined me to go over the procedure and answer any questions I had. Once that was done, he walked me in and I lay down on the chair. I was given some numbing drops first and asked to close my eyes. After a minute or so, Dr. L propped open my left eye and started walking me though what he was doing. I had a little trouble looking at the light in the femto laser, as it looked like it was moving. Maybe that was due to the suction? I guess I eventually looked in the right direction as my vision went dark and he eventually removed it. Then the right eye, which went smoother. At this point everything looked like before. I was then swung over to the excimer laser and this time my right eye was done first. This was the really fun part! I could see Dr. L lifting the flap, but because I couldn't feel anything it seemed kind of like watching a movie. Once lifted, things get super blurry but you can still see the blinking light. They then started the laser and I was hit with the smell of burnt hair. I remember commenting on it between eyes and Dr. L said "that's the smell of good vision." The laser lasted around 20 seconds, so it was super fast. The incredible part is that you can literally see your vision get better while it's lasering. Once the flap is put back down, it's like everything goes into HD. This was repeated for my left eye and suddenly it was all over. I was told I could get up and everything was super clear already, except for some cloudiness from the drops they add at the end. Dr. L inspected my eyes one more time and said I could go on my way! On the way out, I was handed an ice pack mask and that was that. I had a little light sensitivity on the way home but overall was comfortable. A little before getting home, I started getting a little burning, like when you're cutting onions. This is where the comfort drops came in clutch. They burned a little going in but completely wiped out any discomfort. Once home, I wasn't able to sleep, so just listened to some music with my eyes closed for 2 hours. After that I got bored and felt good enough to do some things. I ended up hanging out with my neighbors and having a couple drinks, applying the comfort drops every hour or so. Dr. L texted a couple hours later and wished me well, which was cool. The next morning my eyes felt completely back to normal, and my vision was already amazingly clear. I went to my follow-up appointment and tested 20/20 in each eye, and 20/15 with both. As time goes on I think that will improve further as I had a little blurriness from the contrast of the letters on the background. I am now just over a week out from the procedure and my vision is super sharp. I believe it's better than it was with contacts in before. The only remaining side effects I have as some glow around bright lights in black backgrounds, as well as a couple red spots on my left eye. Both of these things continue to improve each day. I also have absolutely no dry eye whatsoever. I continue to use my lubricating eye drops simply to ensure they heal properly. One thing I do wish they would do is to take a video during the procedure. I would have liked to send it to friends to gross them out! I had been debating getting lasik for a few years and finally decided to go to a few consultations to get it checked out. My eye sight wasn't too bad, but I had trouble seeing far away and never wore glasses. I checked out a few places in the Chicago area for consultations (Kraft, Lasikplus, Sharpe, etc.). Several of the other places I went to were extremely expensive ($5k+ even with the discounts!), pushy or didn't make me feel comfortable. SharpeVision was the last place I checked out and I was very impressed by the professionalism & knowledge of the staff. They made me feel comfortable with my decision, prepped me with all the answers to my questions, and did not push me into making a decision unless I felt it was right for me. They were also significantly cheaper than the other places I went to. On the day of the consultation they performed an eye exam, showed me a video to watch, answered questions & provided me with a booklet with more info and eye drop prescriptions before I left. I ended up scheduling my exam before I left with Dr. Sharpe for the following month. Before the day of the exam, I picked up the eye drops and had my appt on Friday around 5pm. It was really packed when I came in and they were behind schedule so I had to wait an hour or two past my appt time before it was my turn. However the actual procedure itself was really quick. Dr. Sharpe was really helpful throughout the whole process and made me feel comfortable! Right after the procedure it was really uncomfortable for my eyes (which they warned you ahead of time). I passed out and slept most of the night, when I woke up in the morning my eye sight was a lot better! I made sure not to rub, wear make up, apply the eye drops, etc. the week after. But I was able to go outside and normal activities the next day. For a few weeks, I was getting a little dizzy and my eye sight was blurry when I was transitioning from near to far. However, I'm no longer experiencing this. It's been several months since my procedure (October and I had it towards the end of July). I have no complaints & glad I made the decision to get it! I can see slightly better than 20/20 and no real side effects. My eye sight is a little more sensitive to light if I go out in the sun, but it's not too bad. No dry eyes, noticeable halos or pain. The day of the procedure I was nervous, but the staff put me at ease and the time flew by--the actual procedure taking minutes. If you're considering LASIK, you have two decisions to make. Is LASIK right for you? And if so, where should you go? Here are my thoughts on both: LASIK: The procedure itself is painless, you'll feel pressure/slight uncomfortableness. The next 10 hours were quite miserable for me though (extreme light sensitivity, burning sensation, general pain). They said to go home and nap but I felt more pressure/pain while laying down which made it impossible to sleep. I would suggest having a caretaker for the first evening, using the comfort drops liberally, making sure you have something to eat, downloading a podcast (you won't be able to look at a screen), and taking the next day off of work. As uncomfortable as those few hours were, it was all worth it. Six weeks later and I'm almost fully healed and my vision is close to 20/15. SharpeVision: Shop around, go for consultations, ask questions. When dealing with something as sensitive as your eyesight it's important that you feel informed, confident, and cared for. One of the main reasons I chose SharpeVision is because I felt there was a higher level of care. Dr. Ganesh checked my vision at the consultation and again right before the procedure, she was also there to answer all of my questions and concerns. Dr. Sharpe did a wonderful job walking me through the procedure and even texted me a few hours afterwards to check-in. It was nice to know that if I had an issue during the night, I could call/text him. BEST (& ONLY) LASIK EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Prior to LASIK, I had -8.00 and -7.75 vision with slight astigmatism in both eyes and had worn contacts/glasses for over 30 years. I had researched and sat in on a few LASIK consultations over the past 10 years, but I had never felt that the potential side effects, cost, and efficacy of refractive surgery ALL aligned for me. Then I met Dr. Govan, Dr. Lancaster and the staff at SharpeVision. Dr. Govan (Optometrist) meticulously walked me through all of the steps from pre-op through post-op, how best to prepare (Optase artificial tears! Thx Dr!), what to expect, and answered every question/concern that I had. She showed so much compassion and relieved any anxieties before, during, and after the procedure. Furthermore, the conscientious staff also reinforced this empathetic patient experience throughout the consultation and the day of the procedure. I am struggling to put into words how wonderful my experience at SharpeVision was. These folks restored my vision; no gift I've received matches that. My LASIK consultation went as smooth as it could. Minimal waiting time and every question I asked was answered with clarity. At no point did I feel like I was a bother to them, nor did I ever feel like I was being pushed to do something I did not want. The eye exams I got were more thorough than the ones I had with my optometrist. As someone that prioritizes customer service, I knew right after my consultation that this was the right place for me. The day of my surgery was just as seamless as my consultation. Once again, minimal wait times and I had another eye exam. The surgery itself went better than expected. There were only two moments where I felt even the slightest bit of a sensation, but that feeling was certainly not painful and it pales in comparison to anything you experience in your daily routines. Dr. Prickett guided me through the entire process and communicated thoroughly. Immediately after the surgery, I encountered some fogginess, but the vision improvements were noticeable. I experienced minimal irritation in my eyes, and most of that went away after a 4 hour nap. I've contemplated LASIK for so many years and always got too anxious to go through with it. I mean, it's your eyes! I took the plunge one month ago and am so thrilled with the results. Literally life changing. Like others, wish I had done it sooner. The office was very organized, friendly, and supportive throughout the process. Hi everyone! It's been exactly one year since I had my IOL surgery and I can say that the results are nothing short of miraculous. I've been able to enjoy sports again, feel the wind on my eyes, and weep at the beauty of a sunset-- things that were simply impossible until I visited SharpeVision. My vision is still a perfect 20/20 and the ONLY side effect I've had thus far is extremely dry eyes, which I was warned about in the beginning. Altogether, this is a very, very minor annoyance.
