I came in after a freak accident (due to my own clumsiness) left one of my eyes watery, sensitive, and blurry. I was seen by Dr. Hina Lodhia; she was prompt, thorough, and super personable. It's actually been a while since I felt like a medical professional paid so much attention to me. She spent a long time diagnosing what was wrong and I never felt rushed to leave. I was in Chicago for vacation and having issues with my eyes and glasses, and could not handle it anymore. I made an appointment with Dr Golie and she was amazing. She helped picked the frames that looked so good on me, frames that I would never think to lick. She knew by my face shape what would look good or not. She was so thorough, she advised me on how to care for my dry eyes, and how to maintain healthy eyes. I have never had any eye dr be so kind and actually listen to what I am saying. What I love best was her holistic approach to caring for my eyes. It was like I was talking to a favorite family member who understood me. Honestly, I wish she was in Portland! Incredible service/very welcoming staff! My family has followed Dr. Golie for over 8+ years. I refuse to let anyone else check my eye health. This is my first time at her new location (Belmont eye care; is her first baby lbs) and all I can say is wow! She has always been top notch when it comes down to knowledge, service, and approach. This office has a wide range of frames to choose from and unlike other offices they are willing to work with you or your families budget. She encourages healthy diet changes to improve overall eye vision/health opposed to surgery or other scary procedures.. Along with breaking down everything that is going on during the exam/visit so you don't leave with any questions. Rene is her right hand and one of the best doctor assistants; I've personally ran across. I definitely recommend this office or her other location for your next visit.. you won't have ANY regrets! :) P.s. I went to Dr Golie for a couple of years. She is very nice and knowledgeable and walks you through everything in detail, but there are things that need improved: 1) Wait times are unacceptable. No one should have to wait an hour or more after their appointment time EVERY time. Space the appointments out more or increase turnover. 2) Pushed non-traditional products like $75 per bottle Omega 3 tablets. 3) Lenses and frames seemed really expensive, and appear even more so after comparing to my new eye doctor. Overall I never felt like I could leave the office without spending $200+. When I moved out of the area I saw no reason to go out of my way to feel ripped off. While she is one of the more knowledgeable eye doctors I've had, leaving feeling like you overpaid isn't a great way to keep clients. read more

I came to see Dr. Golie as a new patient in January 2015. My eyes were feeling dry and irritated. I had a very mild eyeglass prescription for astigmatism for the past few years and wore my glasses when working at my computer for extended periods of time. I was thinking I had dry eye and might need some medication to help clear it and that I needed a vision test. I never would have believed what experience would follow. I spent nearly 7 months and spent over $2,000 trying to get my vision and eye irritation under control. It was an extremely long and tedious process and I expressed concern over my progress and care at nearly every appointment, and in several emails to Dr Golie. I also waited an average of 60 minutes for every scheduled appointment, many times longer. Frustrated with my (lack of) progress after so many visits and little improvement, I asked several times if there was another doctor I could see or solutions that might be covered by my insurance. Dr Golie had suggested a specialist that she said would be quite costly and told me that was my only option. All along I had an uneasy feeling that I was not receiving accurate information. I finally Googled eye doctors in my area and settled on a new provider. In ONE visit, my vision was cleared up. He recommended a simple eyelid scrub that cost about $5. He was shocked when I told him the treatment Dr Golie put me through. It's hard to describe what it feels like to be taken advantage of by a medical provider. It haunts me to this day. I wrote a letter to Dr. Golie simply asking for a refund and she swing back hard and called my new doctor to try to get him to rescind the advice I was given and ask that he authenticate her treatment. People make mistakes. But Dr. Golie has never come to terms with what she did, never took responsibility for her actions, never apologized, and never refunded my money. I write this review because if I can save one person from this experience it will have been worth it. read more

If it wasn't for Dr. Shepelanko this place would get a 1 star review from me. I had a 1 o'clock appt and wasn't seen until 1:53. It's a Saturday and I understand that it can be unpredictable. My problem was with the customer service. The receptionist at no point informed me I'd be sitting around twiddling my fingers in the dead cell reception zone. When I asked her how much longer it would be, she looked at me as if I was out of line. We also asked her the price of a frame to which she never got back to us with. At the end of the appt we had to ask again and it sucked the life out of her to explain the price breakdown. Dr. Shepelanko really turned my experience around. I'm not sure if they are more focused on being doctors or salespeople. First, if you don't want overpay for a contact lens fitting, stay away. If you want someone to do the contact lens fitting correctly the first time, stay away. Instead, they'll screw it up and then try to sell you something and perform expensive tests each time you return. If you don't want to be told you require multiple overpriced tests that are largely unnecessary, stay away. If you don't want to be sold ridiculous products that are astronomically priced, stay away. If you want to have an appointment and the time you're seen be in the vicinity of your appointment, stay away. This review is meant for anyone who may never have had their eyes checked or required corrective vision before because if you haven't, you might not know better and fall for such unsavory sales practices. We've seen Dr.Golie at her other location. My first time coming to this location was a couple weeks ago. It's a beautiful big space, and it's next to an awesome Juice Bar! They have excellent selection of glasses to choose from, and they try to work with your budget, we were even offered a payment plan since the 4 of us needed glasses! Oh I also love the holistic treatment options they give me for my kids & myself. Thanks to Dr.Golies initial suggestions on diet change & supplements, my husband has been diabetes free for 2 1/2 years already! This is their second office which the location is way closer for us. Both offices have excellent decor, fresh made coffee daily is a huge plus, the optical staff at both places are just phenomenal! It is street metered parking which is the only downfall. I really like Ashland Eye Care for its atmosphere and the really knowledgeable and friendly staff. The doctor is very thorough and did a great job explaining what she was looking at and how I could improve my eye health. I do, however, agree with Kyle M. that they sell products that are overpriced and may not be necessary. I went for an annual eye exam and was asked to come back after a few weeks of trying some (pricey) supplements to improve some minor problems the doctor identified. At the second appointment, I was told I should starting using another product to further help the issue. That time I declined. I've never had an eye doctor request to see me 3 times in the span of two months, and I've never had an experience where I was always prescribed a new treatment at each appointment (especially for what the doctor identified as non-major issues). If you want a great experience and to walk away knowing a lot about your eye health, I'd definitely go here. But if you're not looking to make a serious time and financial commitment to your eye health, be ready to say "thanks but no thanks" to inevitably suggested products and additional appointments. read more

I had the pleasure of recently coming in for an appointment with Dr. Golie, and might I just say she is the cutest doctor ever! She's so friendly, kind, helpful, and really knows what she's doing. After my appointment we were talking about hypochlorous and how it can really help with I'll kinds of things. It's also super beneficial for your health. With coronavirus still being very much a thing, it's nice to know there's a product that's safe and not harmful to myself or my kids. I can use it for all kinds of disinfecting around the house as well as on the go. Dr. Golie has an incredible knowledge of this product and she makes it herself along with other supplements in her vitamin line she has. She gave me so much information! I got a large bottle for disinfecting around the house, and a smaller bottle for on the go, to sanitize hands and other areas that needed quick sanitizing. The other day my son put his grimy hands in his mouth and I was able to use the hypochlorous right into his mouth. Where to even start. Doctor tells me that it looks like I have dry eyes which I do especially cause I stare at computers all day. She says just to make sure I should get a specific test done on my eyes cause it looks like I have a lot of scratches and back of my eyes could have scratches as well. Okay no problem. She tells me that insurance charges you an arm and a leg for this test so that she won't be charging insurance and instead will give me a discounted rate. Kinda weird but at that time thought she was trying to help so went through with it. Gets the test results back...of course everything looks fine. Then she goes on and says that eye drops and omega 3 will help with my dryness and that this special oil cleanser will be the only thing that could help remove these crusties I had on my eyelashes from my dry eyes. I told her I was interested in getting the names of them thinking I could go get them at a store. So it's time to check out and I guess she sells her own brand of supplements and eye drops and all that and she had already picked them all out and the guy helping out at the front had already added it all to my bill. I ask him immediately how much these totaled out to be and he immediately got weird and took a very long time to find how much everything was and at first gave me attitude saying it was already added into the bill and would take a while to find out how much each products were. He said with the products, contacts, and my contact lens fitting I was somewhere around $380 or so. I eventually told him to take the drops and pills and cleanser off as it was around $150 also found it weird that they added everything to the bill without me ever saying "yes I want them". I also told him to take off everything except the exams I got as he said even my contacts weren't covered by my insurance fully. He said only $50 of my $100 allowance goes towards my contacts as my eyesight was pretty severe. Weird. And then I find out my bill is still around 180 and I ask how as I was told from my coworkers and insurance that even with my poor eyesight, the copay should only be $35 for the contact fitting. And with the $49.99 extra test I did it should've been around $85. He says because my eyesight is so bad, my insurance covers only $50 of my contacts screening/fitting which is weird cause my coworker has the same eyesight and she was never told this by the doctors. So the contacts eye exam was still $120 after insurance. I've also had bad eyesight since 9 years old and never once was I charged this much even without insurance. I ended up paying and they told me to come back in two weeks while they order me a trial pair for my contacts to make sure the prescription works for my eyes. It's been well over a month and have yet to hear back. This place from start to finish was sketchy. Would also like to add that I bought my contacts from ContactsDirect since they take my insurance and they let me use all $100 of my insurance allowance on my contacts with no hassle. Stay away. My son broke his glasses and we went there to replace them. We originally bought the frames from this shop. We paid over $500 for eye exam and 2 pairs of glasses. When we went to fix the broken frames they simply refused. The lady that was working there kept finding excuses to refuse us. They don't have them in stock anymore, none of the other frames work, she needs to talk to a manager. I mean, come on. We just need to fix a pair of broken frames. My family and I had an amazing experience at Ashland Eye Care, my youngest son was experiencing swelling in his eyelids, that we assumed was just allergies given the change of weather, but Dr. Petitti gave him a through examination and determined it was actually something more. She recommended a great supplement, that cleared it up in about 2 days. She also went above and beyond to give us a call over the holiday weekend to make sure he was doing okay. I am grateful for her kindness and concern. She wass very through and patient (my son is only 4) with family. If you are looking for a quick 10 minute exam, where the doctor is not as detailed or personable, this is not the place for you. I didnt know they had this clinic as the one on Belmont and Kedzie but I stopped by the smoothie shop next door on my way home from work and I thought, No way! I walk in and the office is HUGE.. They greet me right away, even the doctor, and I asked if they were the same office and it turned out they are.. I wasnt looking to get an eye exam cause i just did 2 months ago but they did offer to adjust my glasses. I didnt even think i needed them to be but they felt way better right after. They stopped sliding down my face. I even purchased a liquid spray to clean my glasses. It was only like 5 bucks and they said it doesnt have bad chemicals that will damage my lenses. In my whole existence of life I have had amazing eye sight. Until I started realizing things up close over time weren't as clear as they used to be. I was educated on the health of my eyes as well as some things I had going on that I was never educated about. I was informed that normal things I do on a daily basis was the very things that was making my eyes tired and weakening my focusing muscles. I never knew that!! I have been seen at both offices. The doctors at both locations are very informative and caring. They want to see us flourish. Also educating their patients on their health which can had adverse effects to the eyes. how did they know my diet was terrible? I was prescribed a reading prescription that has helped so much! I purchased a pair of Tom Fords with A no line bifocal, blue AR and transitions that I refuse to take off(only while showering and sleeping) ‍. I also got diagnosed with mild dry eye and had a MGD expression done which was very satisfying by the way if you are into that sort of thing. Once all of the toothpaste looking gunk was expressed from my eyelids I felt a millions times better! My eyes didn't feel as gritty and weren't constantly red anymore. Long story short if you are looking for a great practice to go to for all of your eye care needs this is the place to be! They also have an amazing frame selection for adults and kids! The staff is great and make you feel like family. Dr Golie is amazing and will go to so many lengths to help her patients. If insurance will not cover my visit she lets me know up front and goes over cost before rendering any services to make sure that you're good to go before proceeding. She's very attentive and if something seems a bit unrealistic she will certainly let you know. She creates a connection between her and her patients and will do everything in her power to thoroughly treat. One thing I love about her office is that she Practices modern medicine to help diagnose and treat conditions early on. This practice is amazing and so is all of its staff!! Dr. Golie and Dr. Petitti are the best eye doctors in Chicago hands down! By all means understand that there is a good reason why they are ALWAYS busy. I promise that you don't complain about the food at the trendiest restaurant in town after waiting 20 or 30 minutes. And if you're in a hot rush just ask how long the wait will be. I am of the belief that vision is my MOST valuable sense. Eye doctors typically cause me a good amount of anxiety, poking eyes for eye pressure, shining bright lights and leaving me half blind after the dilation drops. I'm usually a little nervous and anxious with all doctors, but worry more because my eyes have been damaged from over-wearing my contacts, I suffer from dry eye, have a high prescription, worry about glaucoma because there is blindness in my family and I have to get dilated twice a year for thin retinas and floaters that may cause a retinal detachment one day. Therefore, it's hard to gain my trust. And these amazing professionals did a wonderful job nurturing and caring for not only my eyes but also helping me connect the dots between my eye health and overall health. Apparently, the eyes can tell us about health elsewhere in the body and because we are one connected system then good health of the eyes can indicate good health of the entire body. Reading a few complaining reviews, if you are happy to go to Walmart or Pearle for your 10 min fast food eye exam and the doctor that sees you is a robot who could care less and fails to mention how to improve your eyes or overall health and makes no recommendations of anything but puts you in the same things you already have...then good for you. Go elsewhere. The education you get here is more than you can imagine and more than what even your medical doctor will give you. You'll leave with images of your eyes, dietary tips, supplement recommendations, safe personal product education and ultimately be a healthier, better seeing you. One note on price point, the tear drops, supplements, products and preventative tests they offer range between $16 and $79. Glasses can be bought without insurance from $89 to $189 for non designer frames. My contacts for 6 months were $59 a box. None of this seemed unreasonable or expensive to me especially in this area. read more

Dr. Golie is hands down the BEST doctor I have ever seen. I wish she could be my doctor for everything. She is SO passionate about what she does and truly cares about her patients. She spent 3 hours with me during my first visit and was more thorough than any doctor I have ever seen. She tested my eyes for things that no one has ever tested for before. Her care goes beyond eyes, she also educates her patients about overall health and recommends products that are healthy for you. I really hate to give this place 1 star, but the wait time is RIDICULOUS! I don't even wait this long when I go to the doctor's office or emergency room! Dr. Golie is very nice but I don't know if that is enough to make me want to wait close to 3 hours to be seen. There is no reason why the wait time to be seen should be this long. When you spend over half an hour with each patient, you should be scheduling the appointments with that in mind. Also, don't schedule your first appointment for the day at 11:00 am when the Dr. doesn't even plan on arriving until noon...that's a problem (That happened on my first visit). I think the fact that they make you wait SO long is very inconsiderate. This needs to change if you want to be a five star office. If it were not for the long wait times I'm sure my review would be MUCH different. Unfortunately, I won't be returning because of this. read more

I had an appointment at 10:30am on a Saturday. I was greeted by very friendly staff. I filled out paperwork & then the Technician checked my eye pressure, blood pressure (never had that done at the eye dr. before, but thought it was kinda cool they do that) & then brought me back out to the front and told me that I can browse at the glasses and help myself to tea and coffee & the doctor would come out to get me. I waited until noon before the doctor arrived to the office. I am not sure why they schedule appointments that early if the doctor doesn't even come in until noon. I finally get to see her, she does the eye exam and has me worried about a couple of things. She tells me it looks like I have Ocular rosacea & my eye pressure was high. Then she delves into an hour long sales pitch of this beauty line. She pulled up the beauty line on the computer and starts going over all of the products like $45 face wash, exfoliator, face lotion, face mister, make up remover etc. I was in shock and didn't really know what to say. I understand that this beauty line is probably really good and free of all the bad crap that is in our cheap mainstream products but I can't afford a whole beauty routine that costs $200. That's insane to me. I would rather put nothing on my face. I wasn't there for a beauty consultation, I was there to get my eyes checked. She did a couple more tests because of what she saw on the initial test and it seemed everything was ok. I left there in a daze and more confused if something serious was going on with my eyes or my beauty routine. I ended up paying way more $ than planned & didn't leave until 2pm which seems pretty crazy for an eye exam. read more

Doctor was fine and the regular exam was thorough; however, the manipulations I experienced at this store were disgusting. First, I called to make sure they accepted my insurance and the doctor was available if I booked on ZocDoc, their linked booking website. It was for same day appointment, so I called to make sure. The agent, Rene apparently, said yes and reassured me what I saw on the website was their availability. I booked it, and within 5 mins of our call, he called to cancel my appointment and reschedule it for another time. First letdown. When I arrived for my appointment, I was secretly directed to a different doctor from the one I booked and was never told of the change. The doctor introduced herself, but I didn't quite catch her name. I was just suspicious that she looked different from the image I googled, but whatever, I thought she could always dress differently from the photos. Everything went as if it was normal, no mistakes, until I saw Dr. Golie herself (the one I booked) that I knew I was tricked. I went just for the exam and on the phone, I made sure the exam was free for my insurance, so I expected paying nothing out of pocket. I told them I intended to buy contacts and maybe glasses from the exam results. The doctor gave me a pair of contacts to try out; I didn't suspect it to be a formal "fitting." When I arrived at the counter, I was told that the service I received was a package of exam plus fitting, and I had to buy contacts that day in order for the insurance to count, or I would have to pay for the exam fee. I ended up paying either $99+ for contacts or $124 for exam. It was disgusting and everything was so secretive and you wouldn't suspect it even if you asked before hand. I decided to buy contacts. It was the first time I tried those contacts and I felt wrong afterwards, so I asked if I could switch to my old form of contacts. They agreed the switch, but told me there would be no credit card refund, but only merchandise credit, as was the policy listed on their "receipt." I was furious. I was never told of this policy before I paid; it was secretly and one-handedly agreed upon, and now they imposed it on me. At this time I didn't even have the new contacts; they were ordering it, and all I had were trials. Dr. Golie claimed that they couldn't sell the contacts to other customers and it was considered a custom order, which was bogus, because my prescription was within normal range and they did try to sell the store stock to me. She also claimed the policy was written somewhere in store and she had the attorney to back up her way. I didn't notice any such sign while I was there, and I spent a long time browsing around. We went back and forth on the phone, I was transferred to four people, to Dr. Golie the store owner eventually, who under the consent of the store manager Rene (the one I experienced all the listed manipulations before), agreed on a compromise. Later, when I tried to realize our compromise, I was yet again single handedly manipulated and charged by Rene for ~$250 while I shouldn't be paying a dime. I was beyond furious. The charge went down once again when I mentioned our deal, but it was still not what we agreed upon. The issue finally settled with another phone call and a lot of back and forth conversations between the clerk and Dr. Golie, she honered our deal and I went home. All the while afraid that they may do some tricks to the glasses that were in order for restitution. All in all, the experience was just purely disgusting and infuriating. read more
