I have glaucoma, cataracts, double vision and an epiretinal membrane on one eye, all resulting in very poor distance vision, even with glasses. I was hoping my prescription could be improved and went to the famous Wheaton Eye Clinic and then a purported optometrist 'guru' at Northwestern Hospital. Both told me my glasses were as good as I could get. However, after an unbelievably thorough and patient examination and refraction by Dr. Lindsay Luker at Eyelines, she gave me a new prescription that has me reading two more lines down on the eye chart and qualified to renew my driver's license within restriction! Brava! By the way, the Dispensing Optician at Eyelines, Eric, is also fantastic at his job and will make sure that your pre-testing is done efficiently and that you walk out with frames that look great on YOU and are properly adjusted to be 100% comfortable to wear. read more

Eric is the best! I needed a new pair of glasses, and I had previously purchased two or three pairs from Eyelines. The selection of quality and contemporary frames was great. I must have tried on 20 pairs, but I kept coming back to the three that Eric had initially suggested. I was finally ready for progressive lenses and the optometrist explained everything to me in detail. I got a beautiful pair of Lunor frames made in Germany. These are stylish and exceptionally well made. Eric made sure that they fit perfectly. I also had photochromic lenses installed in my old frames. The only problem that I encountered is that it took me about a month to get used to the progressive lenses. It is like being drunk (not in a good way) and feeling like you are going to fall off a cliff stepping off a curb! But eventually, I grew to appreciate not having to take my glasses on and off. This place is not cheap. But I think it is a good value for the high quality products and outstanding customer service. I will definitely be back again! read more

Two days after a disappointing experience at Lens Crafters where I still paid $600 for glasses I wasn't too fond of, I walked into Eyelines by chance since it was around the corner from my office. I was looking around casually, just seeing what they have, when the owner, Jennie, walked over to me to ask if I needed help. I explained exactly what I was looking for (something I hadn't found at Warby Parker nor Lens Crafters), she walked straight over to a case, pulled out the second drawer and immediately pulled out the glasses I had been picturing in my mind, the glasses I had been dreaming of! She soon pulled out two more sizes of the same style but, after trying on that first pair, I had been sold! I then explained that I (1) didn't have my Prescription on me and (2) I had just bought a pair of glasses from Lens Crafters which I really didn't like. She looked up and dialed my Lens Crafters, telling me to ask them to fax my 'script to her store and suggested cancelling my order. I did just that, she had the script within an hour, I had my money refunded within 24 hours, and just two days later I had my brand new "Dream Glasses" on my face! I could not have asked for a more pleasant, exciting, satisfying, and straight-forward experience! read more

Went in thurs to look at "music" glasses ( readers with a longer focal length) just to see what they had. The staff was very helpful, and knowledgeable. Being out of network, I was hesitant to male a decision. Next day, I contacted an in network provider to understand the benefits. Initially it sounds crazy to shopput of network, but further investigation was that eyelines gave 50% off retail on the frames (made in germany, not china), and anti glare coating was included, but not on the in network. So after doing all the math, after submitting an out of network claim, the costs will be less than in network. After all that, I went back the next day, and left with finished glasses in 15 minutes. They had the lense in stock, measured my eye locations, then cut the lenses. Would definitely go back. read more

What's a nerd without glasses, right? I was craving some new specs and decided they needed to be black frames. Have you ever noticed how much glasses all look alike but oh so very different? Well, I certainly have, and finding a pair of black frames that I loved was not an easy feat. I found 3 pairs at Eyelines that I liked and slowly narrowed it down to one pair that I loved. The employees at Eyelines were very nice and helpful. They grabbed a bunch of glasses fitting the description I gave them and proceeded to help me decide which fit my face best. He told me once I decided on the Prodesign frames "you made a good choice" which is exactly what I need to hear when I'm spending such a sizable chunk of money. They said they might have my lenses done before the end of the day, great! Then he called to say they broke the frames and had to order another pair, crap. He was very apologetic, thanked me for my patience, and offered me the same pair in brown to hold me over till the black ones came in. While waiting for the new frames was slightly annoying, Eyelines handled the situation with the utmost professionalism and customer service. And, honestly, I'd rather they break at the store than in my hands. They offer free adjustments on glasses bought from them. They are going to get so tired of me. I've already gone back twice to have my new frames adjusted slightly. Having a freakishly large head means more adjusting than normal. Eyelines does not work with your insurance, you need to pay them and submit the claim forms yoruself. read more

Selection: good / very good selection of stylish frames, though their cost is way high, and actually I have found their selection getting a smidge less interesting in the past year or so. I found a just-as-stylish + a greater selection + significantly less expensive same frames+lenses at d-vision on Division (where currently they take insurance too). Though this shop is closer to work, so that's convenient and sometimes I buy my own frames. Service: there are three sales people it seems. One guy is quite friendly, one woman is really nice and down to earth. Though one woman is super-rude, almost laughably so (telling you to wait, or that you "can't do that," rather than to call for someone else to help you, etc.); I have just walked out it's been so absurd sometimes. I have ordered glasses here though, and one was screwed up three times and took weeks to get to me; not so great. Payton's advice is good, especially if you run into this one woman, asking to talk to someone else would be good as the others I've encountered there are nice, and helpful. In sum: good selection, generally rude/difficult service. Needless and foolish if you ask me, for a shop where they really should be trying to make people feel *good* so you'll *want* to spend money here! read more

Yesterday my cheapo sunglasses broke but the pin fell out on my desk so I knew they were salvageable. This place is near my work so I decided to pop in to see if they could fix them for me. They didn't laugh at me for my cheapy glasses and in fact kindly screwed them back together for free. That to me was awesome "customer" service. Also, when i asked if they knew where I could donate my old prescription glasses, he said I could bring them in and they would take care of it for me (which I plan to do next week). If I need glasses in the future, I would definitely check them out. read more

Eyelines - home of many very fancy and very expensive frames. Very fun to browse though. On one such outing in March 2004 I fell in love with a pair of Line 3 frames. I have worn glasses since I was about 5 years old and I am severely near-sighted without them. I went somewhere else to get an eye exam and then brought my prescription here and they mailed them away. The frames I picked with the thinnest plastic lenses and anti-reflective coating totaled $459. Yikes! They don't take insurance here, though they'll tell you to see if your vision insurance carrier would cover them even if they are not in the network. A couple years back the frames of those glasses I got snapped right down the middle when I rolled over them in bed. Ouch. I've had both pleasant and unpleasant experiences here customer service wise, so flip a coin when you walk in. read more

People are so nice here! I'm traveling for work and brought my eyeglasses, but not a spare pair of contact lens. One of my contacts ripped in half this morning (I actually debated whether I could wear half a lens). Instead, I put on my nerd glasses and went to work. On a walk to find lunch, I saw Eyelines. I stopped in and asked if they sold "one" contact lens. The man who helped me said he could give me a sample lens if I either have a copy of my prescription or could have my eye doctor fax it to him. He didn't even ask if I was a patient or try to sell me contacts! He even said "Welcome to Chicago" and told me he liked my glasses after I told him the story. :) They looked like they had some beautiful frames too! If I lived in Chicago, I would definitely be a patient here! read more

I've been to lots of glasses shops - from Pearl Vision, Salt, and private more boutique-like places and Eyelines is the best! It's more boutique-like, and while they do carry a few mass produced frames, they also carry one-of-a kind frames. Often they only have one or two pair (and high-end brands, mostly from Europe), so you won't see anyone else walking around with your exact same frames. I have bought four pairs of glasses from them and ALWAYS get complimented! The service is always personalized and they find glasses that fit your face - frame, bridge and coloring. Everyone is very friendly too. They keep your material on file so you don't have to give them all your details every time you get a new pair. I haven't gotten my eye-exam there, so I don't know how that service is and how expensive. Also, you pay for uniqueness. I have always spent at least $300 if not $500 and up to $700 on a pair of glasses. Start saving your money, or if you have flex spending at work, use it. read more

I am here in Chicago on business and had a minor issue with my prescription sun glasses. I was walking on LaSalle Street when I saw Eyelines and walked in to see if they could help. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. They took my glasses and in less than five-minutes fixed what was broken, gratis. While waiting I couldn't help but notice what an excellent selection of glasses they had. So, should you live in Chicago, or be visiting and need eyewear, I have to recommend you try this store. At 20 years old, I had my first ever eye exam here. Everyone that worked there was really nice and helpful. I probably made them feel uncomfortable because I kept apologizing about everything because I was nervous, but they were still very nice. The doctor was pleasant and wanted to make sure he was able to help my eye aches go away. It was expensive without insurance, but expensive for me is $10 for a burger, fries, and a drink, so I might be a little biased. For what they did I think it was well worth what it cost. The best part about it was that they didn't try to push any of their glasses on me but merely mentioned that they had sales since they knew I am a poor student. read more

I really like them. I went to Dr. Tom Benthien and had a very thorough checkup. I then got glasses. The group there is phenomenal in helping you pick out frames that are perfect for your face. They spend as much time as you need and are very patient while you decide. Not only that, they all really seem to enjoy their jobs there and all of them get in on helping you pick out your glasses. Eyelines customer service is best-in-class. I have been into the store several times, mostly for repairs. Not only do they perform the repairs (often for free, sometimes for a $5 charge), but then they clean and adjust the glasses as well (thanks Jennifer!). I have been so happy with my experiences here that I have now scheduled an eye appointment and plan on purchasing my next lenses from Eyelines. No, they don't accept insurance up front, but they will help will the forms required for reimbursement. read more

I went to Eyelines based upon the reviews but unfortunately was really disappointed. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly front receptionist. I told her I was looking for new frames and she proceeded to help me. But when another customer came out of his eye appointment, her attention turned to him. I basically was left to look for frames myself and she would come by every now and then to see how I was doing. I understand that he had an eye appointment and seemed to be a regular but you just lost a potential customer. I would have liked a little bit more than just checking in on me. The lack of customer service persuaded me to take my money somewhere else. read more

If u want run of the mill insurance basic glasses u may want to stick to the bigger chains or smaller unimaginative opticals.
