    Park

Here is another park in downtown. It's nice to get away to something good outside. Wingfield Park is a good place for hanging out and playing around water. Mostly clean. There's some homeless of course but not a whole lot since there's more visitors coming around here. It consists of an island and a river bank. It's a nice place for enjoying the scenery of the Truckee River. There's something kind of like rapids that makes it fun to ride in a kayak in this. On the island is a stage for musical acts. There's usually something happening here if it's summer. Get to the island by going across one of the bridges. This area is also good for watching the boat races and other athletic events. Best thing about this is the great view of the river and downtown. It has some homeless people but there's not a whole lot. The park is near some of the most popular places to drink and eat too.

In these socially distant time, it's nice to find a place where people are enjoying our city and respecting each other. There aren't many places to take a two year old for entertainment these days. We've found Wingfield to be a good place for a quick outing with the fam or spontaneous fun. Watching a toddlers eyes light up when they see the water is pretty special. They appreciate the simple things, and it's so wonderful to observe. We like to grab takeout and head down for a little picnic by the river. The past few weekends haven't been busy at all. A few floaters, families and small groups soaking in the sun. Everyone spread out appropriately and being respectful of their space. I'm glad to have nice spaces like this in our city.

Whether water or lawn, Wingfield Park's got you covered.

Reno has a reputation for its sleazy casinos, and the casinos have gone downhill ever since California legalized gambling. Outsiders don't realize that Reno is quite a family-friendly city if you just get beyond Virginia Street between I-80 and the river. But don't go too far, or you'll miss this gem. Recently, Reno rebuilt the Truckee River near Virginia Street to make this very nice park. It's small, but has some things that will draw you in and you won't want to leave. The big thing is the river. At Wingfield Park, there is a spot that was built specifically to create a small section of rapids. So if you're floating on an inner tube, you suddenly go downhill, picking up speed, maybe the tube goes underwater for a second, and you get drenched. Fun! Next to the rapids, the river is probably 10 feet deep, so kids can jump in and sink for a long time without worrying about hitting their feet or head. The current is fast enough to carry you along. Things are quieter on the right side of the island. Here, a pool was built, probably 3 feet deep, and it's great for the little guys. More small rapids just down the river. Beach for the parents to sit and watch. As for the island, it's an oasis of grass and trees. The shade probably drops the temperature by 10 degrees, which comes in handy during the hot summers. On the other side of the street is a gazebo and open space where concerts are held. I have a hunch that this park gets lots of use. The gamblers don't know about it, even though it's close by the one-armed bandits. So the locals come here to cool off and relax. Bottom line: Who needs a pool when you have Wingfield Park?

Beautiful park in the heart of downtown Reno. We happen to be in the area when there was a family friendly concert in the park. It was well run, with families everywhere and security walking around. The park has a grassy area complete with a stage. You have a beautiful setting with the Truckee River in the background. If I lived closer, I wouldn't mind just hanging out here! If you're alone or with a family, this is a great place!

Review #101 - 2020 While my son was getting his haircut, I decided to take the kids here to play for about an hour since I didn't want to drive back to our hotel. This place is very nice, but there are a lot of homeless people lying around so it didn't feel totally safe. We've been here a few times before, but never actually walked around nor made the effort to get into the water. The teenagers had a lot of fun taking their Instagram photos while my 4-year old was busy climbing on the rocks, at the same time trying to avoid falling into the water. I stuck my feet into the water for a few minutes and I felt like my feet were about to freeze off. I'm not sure how some of the kids were able to swim in it like it was "normal" temperature. The kids had so much fun that they asked if we could come back again the next day, but we were running late and didn't get a chance to stop by. We'll definitely be back again.

Beautiful park in downtown Reno. Nice place to sit along or in the river on the rocks. Gorgeous day out in September. Lots of people and dog watching.

A small park along the river downtown. It is the home of many events and lazy weekends. A beautiful park nestled between two branches of the the Truckee River, with a large lawn, mature trees and access to the river. Throw a blanket down and enjoy a picnic with the kids and dog, there is plenty of room for everyone. Wade or play along the rocks in the river. Or enjoy one of the many events that are held in park year around- the River Fest, Artown, and various concerts on the stage at the west end of the park.

    Flowers smell awesome.

Beautiful upkept park island connected by aromatic flower ball bridges. Love to wade in the chilly Truckee.

Love the ballet until the people in front of you decide to stand up on their knees and block everyone's view sitting behind them

Wingfield Park is nestled in the Reno downtown area next to the Truckee river. In the summertime the park is used for live events on stage and community events like the duck race. The park has many swimming spots made for people to enjoy the river. In July, Reno is Artown, and there are many events throughout the month that take place on stage like the Sierra Nevada Ballet or the showing of a classic film. The park is very clean for the amount of traffic it receives from the river goers, dog walkers, and your casual picnic'ers... When the river is full and flowing, Wingfield Park is typically the end and get off point for people gloating the river. If you are looking to float the Truckee start at the park near the Patagonia store. Overall, I recommend this park if you are looking for a fun and safe environment.

This was the best find for me while I was visiting. It is a short walk from a lot of the hotels, but it feels miles away thanks to the scenery. There are rapids and bridges and running areas and lots of places to dip into the slightly chilly Truckee River. Whether you tube it, or kayak it, or just body surf it, the river is a blast. Sure, it can be a bit quick-moving, but there are tons of entrance & exit points to ensure you aren't swept away. The landscaping is wonderful which let us post up on some well-placed flat rocks to soak in the sun. We needed a bit of sunshine after jumping in & out of the cold water. It looks like there are places for concerts & whatnot, which would have been a neat experience. My only regret here is that we didn't picnic or bring some beverages with us. Fortunately, we could walk to a bar from there, so it didn't take away from the experience. I should have spent more time here during my trip, but at least I know where I'm going next time I'm in town.

Clean, accessible paths, manicured lawns, appealing landscape, room to roam, near eateries and pubs, pet friendly, and it's in the middle of the Biggest Little City in the World. Thank you City of Reno. You should be proud of this little park. Gay Pride Day will be filling the place this weekend (8/15/15), and I'm wishing I could be here to see the goings on. When I visited today, it was on the quiet side, and it appears to be a favorite among locals and very well used. Kudos, again Reno!

Great location and the almost perfect weather for Pops on The River, Elton John Tribute. It did rain and thundered for about half an hour but it then stoped and cooled the weather a bit which was a plus.
