I came to the Grand Sierra Resort pool and paid $40 for an umbrella. Just 10 minutes later, they came over and closed the umbrella because it was windy. I completely understand that safety comes first, but what I don't understand is why they refused to give me a refund when I had only been able to use it for about 10 minutes. When I explained that I had literally paid $40 for nothing, the manager's response was, "Yeah, pretty much," while smiling. That response was extremely disappointing and showed a complete lack of customer service or concern for the guest. I would have expected at least some effort to make the situation right, especially when I barely received any use from something I paid $40 for. Very poor customer service. We're Sparks locals & paid tourist prices to visit the GSR pool on a weekday! $30/pp to get in @ 12noon on a Friday. Sheesh. A fool and his money are soon parted, I know, but we had a rare kid-free day and treated ourselves. Poolside service is snooty and slow. Drinks taste like mocktails & food is mediocre. If you wanna hang at the pool, better come with a credit check and Vegas money, baby. I'm surprised they don't charge you for sunlight. Disgusting. There's no maintenance for upkeep. People are crude. They pee in the pool. It smells really bad. Found a large mass of long hair floating by me. I've never felt grosser. Also there are no restrooms in the pool area. You've got to leave to fenced off pool and walk quite a long way to get to the restrooms, so if you have a child, make accommodations. All of that said, it's a heartbreaking scene. I've been coming to this pool since it was the MGM changed hands in the 80s I think, to the Hilton. It was always so nice. My family and I have been going to this pool for years. The staff seems to be at its worse. One lifeguard was on her phone at her post both days that I was there. She spends the majority of time looking around to see who may be watching. Defeats the purpose of having lifeguards, but maybe it's allowed i'm not sure. The other issue was with the servers. I think they now are supposed to only focus on cabanas. We were never approached to see if we needed anything. One of the days, we waited almost an hour for service. I finally asked one of the girls if we could order...she said she would come back and never did. This was on Thursday and it wasn't busy. I then went to the bar and sat for 15 minutes and wasn't greeted so I left. The next day we did get to order so that was a plus. Rented an umbrella and was only able to use it for 10 minutes due to high winds. Totally understandable but was not offered a refund or partial refund. Continued to see patrons pay to rent umbrellas even though there were high winds. GSR should have stopped renting them out until the winds calmed down. Also, we ordered food from their pool menu. First order took an hour and a half for tenders and fries only (for the kids), second order took an hour. Hoping they're able to improve their services so the time spent there is more enjoyable. read more

What a fun and amazing place to be for the 4th of July! Came her for their BBQ and poolside fun and fireworks! It was so much fun to see all of the people (and there were lots!) having fun with their friends and family. There was a DJ playing tunes and all I could think about was the line in "Field of Dreams", "Is this Heaven?" No it's Reno. What a special day. The pool was beyond packed. Not conducive to trying to do laps. But I did dunk in the pool, The water was warm. Really nice. You can rent a cabana. There are a couple of poolside bars for a cold brewskie. The fireworks were more than amazing. It was so great to be part of the excitement. Place this on your bucket list for a perfect Northern Nevada summer 4th of July treat. This was so cool. I feel like we went here on the last sunny day of the summer season. My friend rented a cabana. There is no time limit on your rental from my understanding. They serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks but no food. We grabbed some food from the burger place right inside near the pool entrance. The pool was nice. It has multiple step entrances to hop into the pool. They have restrooms and showers available. After a certain time we were asked to move to the other side of the patio area because it was getting dark. On that side they have the Jacuzzis and fire pits. There was plenty of seating. I believe they closed at 9pm. I recommend coming here especially in the summer. You can get a pool day pass without being a hotel guest of GSR. read more

First time visiting as some friends rented a cabana. I must admit the pool area is fantastic. The upper, above 21, infinity pool is really nice. The lower pool was great as well. The cabana was comfortable and the service to it was top notch. The prices for food and drinks was a bit on the high side, but that is not unexpected. The drinks were okay for the price, not a great deal. The food on the other hand was far, far better than I expected. I had a fried chicken sandwich with pickles and a spicy aioli which was way bigger and better I thought it would be. The price was fair considering the size and quality of the food. Chicken was tender and the accompanying French fries were excellent. My wife got the pizza and it was as good as any in town and was much bigger than we expected as well. My husband had a different first impression than I did. Said he felt judged by the lady who checked us in at the VIP cabana area. He told me he felt judged by his appearance (big polys with tattoos) lol I how ever didn't feel that way. Or maybe my Fat Tuesday drink kicked in and I was oblivious lol My family of 12 (5 kids, 7 adults) rented a cabana , and a day bed which was close to the pool, so my parents didn't have to walk too far from the cabana and pool. We were in cabana 4 which was pretty far from the bathroom and the pool. The manager Victor was very helpful in answering all of my inquiries prior to arriving. We loved our server , Taylor. She was fast and attentive. The food was DELICIOUS. The hang over burger was a hit, and so was the bbq chicken pizza. We didn't care for the chicken tenders cause they were dry and hard. It was pretty windy that day so the umbrella we rented had to be closed most of the time we were there. The kids enjoyed the pool but weren't too happy they had to get our cause they had to rest the water for about 30-45 mins. The pool was about 4-5 feet. It was hot that day but I did not go in the pool. I stayed at the cabana most of the day. The vibe gave me vegas pool vibes. We have rented cabanas in Vegas before but it did not give us as much food as we had at GSR. By the end of the day we had a hard time using up all the food and drink credit we had. We are here yearly for travel sports. When team families travel into town early we always have a pool day or afternoon. Gabe was bartending the pool bar and was very welcoming and friendly. He made great drinks and was super attentive and accommodating, even making the best nonalcoholic drinks for the kiddos. We enjoyed chatting with him. Went the day before to ask for a reservation for a day bed in person. My contact info was obtained by a nice kid named Kelly. She said DJ or Starr would be in touch with me the following day to iron out the details. The following day I arrived at the pool 15 minutes before it opened and asked about my reservation. Milly didn't have any information on it but was still nice enough to get my reservation in order and escorted my party and I to our day bed at the open. Milly was very sweet, the pricing was confusing but I'll get to that later On our way in I ran into DJ and said that he needn't contact me anymore, and he showed me his queue which was just a long list of contacts forwarded to his text string. No names just contact after contact named contact. Poor guy it was understandable he didn't get to texting us. Not sure how he even keeps track of it. Did also receive a text from Starr at around 11:30 but we were already in the pool. Kylie was our server she was thoughtful and attentive but only worked a few hours before passing us off. I wasn't too aware of whoever took over. I remember many servers asking us if we needed anything. Only sour moment was when they had to close the main pool. The day before the same thing had happened and they had let some kids swim in the adult pool in the meantime. Today was a different story our friend who had brought a child wasn't allowed to bring her upstairs this time. Which confused the poor little girl. She was allowed the day before... how do you explain that to a two year old? Answer is you can't, she thought she was allowed up there and the security had the weirdest attitude about it, he said if you want to blame anyone, blame him he pointed to a man in a suit who had been walking around the pool. Other than that odd incident everything went pretty well. Prices were slightly absurd but that's everywhere nowadays. $30 for a salad, $10 for a virgin piña colada, $30 for four coors lights. I just wish it was more like Vegas where they let you bring snacks, but it's a strict "no outside food policy" and supposedly we were going to be credited $250 in food credit and gratuity was supposed to be included. However we were charged for all the food we ordered and an extra $60 in gratuity fees. Sort of sneaky. Didn't really appreciate that. But it's the only pool around worth kicking it at. (You guys are cute )and to walking out at the end of a beautiful day...a lovely experience. What you need to know is that you have full bar access and amazing servers and a great poolside menu menu. You can also bring in anything from GSR... Johnny Rockets food, Fat Tuesdays. Like I said above, in sort of the negative department, we chose chairs in the adult pool area and the music was just crazy loud for us. (FOR US...IF YOU WANT A JAMMIN' VIBE...YOU'LL LOVE THIS! THINK VEGAS POOL PARTY). In the adult pool area, to move away from the music would have required spending $ on cabana-like chair... Just didn't need to do that. I think mid week, non-adult pool, you could find a reasonably peaceful place to hang for the day and still get amazing service. This pool is an oasis in the desert, in obvious and yet not obvious ways. How would you like to feel like you spent the day at a resort for just a $20 entry fee and whatever food and beverage you consumed?. And there's Brit. The pools are very clean and comfortable. I have enjoyed the whole pool areas very much! The Pool is operated at 50% capacity until further notice due to the pandemic. Bar services are available. I'm not sure what to say, my son and I went to the pool for 4th of July. From the start the visit wasn't that great. When we arrived it felt like we were an inconvenience to the counter people and security because we were not hotel guests. The counter person was annoyed that she had to ring us up. Then security had an attitude because it was busy. I do not think they were prepared for how busy it was going to be. I had inquired about food because my son has food allergies and can't eat what was offered at the pool, so I had asked about bringing in port of subs, the security officer said nope, that's why we offer food here at the pool. Then came watching how the lifeguards we're doing their jobs. I am a former lifeguard and medic for a major hotel pool in las vegas. The life guards were not paying attention at all. They had their heads down and one had a towel covering their head. There was also only 2 lifeguards for a pool that had well over 200 people in it. Someone could have drowned and the lifeguards wouldn't notice. This was our first visit and probably last as we probably won't come back based on the visit and experience we had. read more

A great place for locals to relax during the week. The GSR (Grand Sierra Resort) has ample parking. They do require a day pass which is very reasonable for the amenities. There is a 21 and above area, bar and infinity pool and then family pool. They doors open at 1100, the bar is also open then, we were able to find lounges near the pool and umbrella. They will bring you one if needed. However, the food opens at noon, you can order via the mobile app or waitress. We both had the Hangover burger (Bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg, it was really good. It comes with fries (potato or sweet potato), they were also very good. The reason for the 4 star was the bar, service was great but they didn't have a functioning blender, I know are you Kidding me GSR. The whole day was very reasonable for food, drinks and pool. Would recommend during the week as it will be less crowded than weekends obviously. read more

My review will strictly be about The Pool and not the resort itself. I will write about that in a separate review. I have lived here for seven years and used to use the pool before they remodeled it and I must say that the remodel results were spectacular! I came with my girlfriend for the pool party that they have every Sunday. If you are a local you get in free before noon. Of course we showed up at 11 AM and it was a bit tough to get a shady spot under an umbrella but we did manage to get a couple of nice lounge chairs. There are cabanas for rent as well as daybeds although the cabanas are very very expensive. They have a beautiful bar that's nice and shaded with some giant TVs if you're into sports. You can order food from their bar or go inside and order from one of the fast food restaurants or even get a pizza at Roundtable. They have a really cool sand volleyball court set up. A few hot tubs (a couple of them 21 and over which is nice). In fact, the 21 and over section was like a giant party! Since it was Sunday there was a DJ playing and several people were dancing. It was a really fun day and I highly recommend that you check them out, especially if you're a local looking for fun on a sunny Sunday! They have something for everyone so bring your kiddos or not, either way it's a good time! read more

Enjoying the pool for a few days was not so enjoyable. I ordered a drink at the bar, $9, not so horrible. Having the Fat Tuesday's cup ... I opted to not refill it for $15 and just get a small $9 drink again. I ordered the same $9 drink from the waitress and she took my credit card upon ordering and when she brought my drink and card back, that same $9 drink was $18 - 2 days later. I should of refused it but they already ran my credit card and I didn't want to make a big stink. Seriously, who charges $18 for a 10 ounce drink ? I would of easily paid $15 for a Fat Tuesday's refill but I wanted to give my liver a rest. Bartenders, waitresses, get your shit together & consistently charge the same price. Never again.... Did someone say FREE?? For locals, and only during the winter season, but still.... Free!! The Pool at the Grand Sierra Resort is the perfect place to laze your snow days away. Total of 4 hot tubs - 2 of which are adults-only, which is needed on a holiday when the kiddos are out to play. There is also a wide infinity pool that is slightly heated... perfect for a break between hot hot jacuzzing (is that a word?). There are tons of little cabanas with plenty of room for storing your stuff and lounging around. Speaking of lounging, there are gorgeous fire pits and couches over by the bar. The only thing that isn't free is the booze (of course), but they have a nice selection of seasonal drinks to complement your poolside adventures. We had the cranberry mule and peppermint stick martini. Both were absolutely delicious and the bartender was super awesome. I honestly can't think of a better way to spend a winter day! Throw in some ice skating, maybe, and you have yourself a snowy good time. read more

They are under staffed to start. We were here the past 2 weekends for the rib cook off then the hot air balloon races. Friday of Labor Day weekend the main pool was closed but the small adult pool was open. This forced kids to have to play in the adult pool. Kids will be kids and splash. Well they got on the PA to inform everyone that there is no splashing in the adult pool. This trip we did not have kids. Also, when we got to the pool to get a chaise lounges, there were none available up top where this pool is. The main pool and deck was closed. When we asked a waitress where can we sit, she replied " you can rent these day beds for $350". They finally opened the main pool deck area for lounging but NOT the pool. Onto the following weekend. My wife orders a drink and the drink arrives. She takes a sip from the straw. She thinks there is something wrong with her straw. She examined it to find a make up brush in it ( see pic). We finally got our servers attention and she could really give a crap. We asked for a new drink and to speak to a manager. We got the drink but not the manager. We like staying here but probably going to look at other resorts. Lots of other choices in Reno. read more

We enjoyed our short time here at the Beach Pool. We came to swim in the morning when it wasn't as crowded with all the kiddos. I'm sure it can get quite crowded during the latter part of the day. It's one gigantic, massive, pool, with lots of little inlets. There's a huge hot tub along with a bar with cocktail waitresses constantly coming by to check on your thirst. There are several lifeguards on duty. There are no outside drink or food allowed and they will check your bags as you enter the pool area. They are open til 11 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Unfortunately, on our first night, they closed it early due to lightening strikes. There's also a VIP Cabana for rent in which you rent in four hour blocks for $100 M-TH. $250 F-Sun. You don't have to be a guest staying at the hotel either. The Beach is open to the locals for $10 M-Th, and $15 F-Sun. read more

Have been going to the Grand sierra resort infinity pool a number of times this summer. The water has been very dirty and cloudy. When I asked the employees about it they said they would fix it but it is still a problem. The pumps are not working so the water does not get clean. I feel this is a health hazard and people can get sick. For some reason they have been unable or unwilling to fix the problem. If you feel the same way please let them know. read more

A few mom friends from the area met up with our kiddos. One of us had called to make sure the large pool would be open. One because the website says the infinity pool is adults only and two because it's more shallow and easy for the kids to reach. They were told yes, it would be open. We arrived and only the infinity pool was open and crowded with 90% children. I honestly felt bad for the adults trying to enjoy some quiet time. Two of us were charged $30 each and the other two were charged $20. And to top it off, the surface of the hot tub is extremely rough it took a literal chunk out of my kids' foot. My friend and I spent 2 nights at the hotel. The room was nice and clean. I decided to go for a swim and hot tub experience. I read that there was an adults pool which I welcomed. I could not find room in the pool, neither the infinity pool or the main one. Not to mention not even a place to leave my towel. It was soooo crowded! Not in the slightest enjoyable experience. Good-sized pool area that's very kid friendly. During our stay at the GSR, we went down to the pool multiple times, especially in the late afternoon when it wasn't so packed. Unfortunately they weren't done with the full renovations, but once it's completed it'll have more spas and cabanas off to the sides. The beach volleyball court was also closed when we went. The pool itself only goes to around 4ft throughout and they had 2-3 lifeguards present to watch everyone. Kids life vests were available for younger children and you can't bring any outside food or drink. Cocktails and some food options are available for purchase inside and they check your room key when you enter/grab towels. read more

This place was super fun and nice. When I went the large pool was closed but the 21 and up pool was open and the hot tubs. They had 2 hot tubs on the upper level and about 3 on the lower level. However the pool is in no way equipped to handle high volume for food. We waited and hour and half and I finally gave up and asked for a refund. One person in our party has health issue and needed to eat. I think I was most disappointed that the staff had a somewhat "deal with it, there's nothing we can do about it." I will return but order your meal as soon as you arrive -- you have no choice but to eat there or at a far restaurant because you can't bring in outside food. **lol. Beautiful pool and lovely surroundings, but that was the extent of the positives! Sat in the booth area near the bar and was unable to get any service from the cocktail waitresses for over 20 mins. Oddly, a table of hotel management came in about 15 mins after us and was welcomed immediately, given waters, and their food and drink orders were immediately taken. Evidently you need a gold GSR name badge to get good service around here. So disappointing, especially based on the cost of the cocktails ($14-$28 each). We visited when we got a room deals. Once, in June and once in August of 2018. The facility is beautiful and the staff is super nice. We enjoyed the adult area one day and the regular pool and kid friendly jacuzzi area another. I love that my son could use the pool and the jacuzzi area both, thank you for that. The run through water area was fun too. I like that locals can get in for a little fee for day use, I have had friends take advantage of that. Staff was friendly and attentive.
