Learning to swim like a fish, face in the water!

2nd year of swim lessons offered by City of Sparks Swim University here, we are very pleased! Even though the instructors are of a younger age, they seem to take control of the kids and deliver the skills described for each level of instruction. Good value, too! Classes 4 x week and a discount for Sparks residents. They taught my kids more in 2 sessions over 4 weeks last year than I could have hoped to accomplish all summer. Hooray for learning water safety and another year of skill building! Ok, so the park is a bit sketchy, but the pool got a lovely re-do several years ago and it's a great asset to the community. Grateful that City of Sparks offers these lessons and discount swim Tuesdays are a great way to beat the summer heat! Dive in to Deer Pool!

It was a bit strange today having only one person swimming in the giant pool. It was overcast and rainy, Saturday evening... I guess I was the only one that needed to do laps but, when you're face down in the water, you don't really see anyone else or talk to anyone else. This is my favorite swimming/exercise spot . Can't say enough about it. Don't forget, the membership here also allows you to go to the other Reno area pools. Including Idlewild, north Northwest and Mount Evelyn or Evelyn Mount whatever it is. Lol

Ok, maybe it is a clean pool smell. The building, locker rooms, seating areas, parking lot and outdoor areas look good. If you haven't been and you are thinking it is just another community pool like Alf Sorrenson or Idelwild, it is not. This is a jewel in the Parks & Rec. Department's offerings. This facility gets bonus points for being fully self sustainable with the hot springs and solar. The rates are reasonable with discounts on Wednesday evening and Sunday. RecConnect passes start at $12 per month.

First of all, they clearly stated the rules before entering the pool & actually enforced them. For a mom of younger kids to have clear rules enforced was amazing; my kids were never accidentally hit or pushed by older kids. They have 3 water slides and they will allow kids of all ages on them but no life jackets or goggles on the slides . The slides drop into about 3.5 ft deep water so they will catch the kids at the bottom if needed and walk the young ones to the top of the slides too. There is also a baby pool that's is 1-2 ft deep and is slightly warmer than the large pool. There was a life guard on all 4 sides of the pool and they rotated frequently, they really paid attention and made sure everyone was safe. The pool & facilities were clean and seemed very well taken care of. We will definitely be back! FYI they have life jackets available to borrow for free, only coast guard approved floatation devices allowed in the pool, no snorkels or flippers are allowed.
