This park is a very nice park with lots of options. This review will be broken up into two parts because there are two different parks. I will call the first one the yellow and green park. The second park is called the Nevada park, because the padding underneath the playground is shaped like the state of Nevada. There are parking lots for both parks. Both parks were clean. Yellow and Green Park: This park has so much open, grassy space. There are two huge eating areas, which are covered. But there are several picnic tables around the park. There is a horseshoe pit. There are no swings. There are bathrooms at this park. There is a splash park located next to this part of the park. There is an admission cost. Last summer it was $3 per person. The playground has a soft padding underneath it. There is a larger playground and a smaller playground. The playgrounds are unique and are mostly well maintained. Nevada Park: The Nevada park is really cool. The soft padding underneath the playground is shaped like the state of Nevada. There is a sign with some cool Nevada facts. This is a great part overall but I love that they do a free summer concert series. Every Wednesday evening during summer. Tonight's band was The Snakeboy Johnson Band. They also had Pot Luck Food Truck, On Tap beer truck and Sierra Swirl Ice Cream Truck. If you have never been I highly recommend. You can also bring your own food and drinks!! This has to be one of my favorite parks in town! It is huge and so beautiful! The play structures are all laid out well, taken care of, and they have a couple - one right up front and one further back (driving recommended if switching between the two). In the front area, there is a ton of open grass, two large pavilions and one smaller, plenty of tables and benches to be seated, and the splash pad right next door. The pavilions are available to rent for a fee through the recreation site. Last summer, we opted to snag a group of three picnic tables for my daughter's birthday party and brought an easy up and it was plenty of room! Over the summer they have a concert series in the evenings which is always a wonderful time. The restrooms are also a bonus as they are always kept clean! read more

I have been to this park many times. As a matter of fact, I used to come to this park on a weekly basis to meet up with a local playgroup when the park first opened. Sadly, my kids are all grown. However, it is still a wonderful space to play if you have small kids. This park is located next to Melio Gaspari Water Play Park and Spanish Springs Washoe County Public Library. Incidentally, the park building houses space that can be rented for special events that opens up to a coved patio with BBQs and tables. Bathrooms are always clean. I am not sure how many acres are at this park but it is large and has huge older shade trees, a volleyball area, horseshoe pit, BBQs, tables and benches and playground equipment. There is also a large covered BBQ space that can be rented for special events. It has an upper and lower park. The lower park is closer to the skateboard park inside the Lazy 5. The lower park is mostly playground equipment for younger kids. However, this too also has a large covered bbq space that can be rented for special occasions. It has a restroom building which is normally clean. Indeed I have been here for special events, concerts, and even outdoor weddings. It is a public space so if you having a wedding keep in mind there may be other people in the park during your special event. read more

Lovely park and lots of easy access from Pyramid with ample parking. Large shade trees make for comfort in the summer months. Volley ball area, kids' playground and barbeques available with benches. Large indoor space apparently available for rental and used for community events. I attended the last two of the Music in the Park series and what a great deal they are! Looked at the whole summer menu of bands playing on Wednesdays starting at 6:30 pm till 8 pm. Definitely something for everyone. Upset I didn't go sooner! Great place to end the day on a Wednesday! Different bands play each week so there's something you're like (eventually at least!). This year they have a food truck show up every week and they also have a beer truck as well (nice addition!). Great place to let the kids run and play at the playground or dance around to the music, even if they think they're too old, it's a nice break from screen time. It's a little splash playground that is completely fenced in, where your little as can run and play without fear of loosing sight of them. It's a great way to beat the heat. You can bring food and enjoy it at the tables or outside at the park and tables there. You can also bring in your own drinks so you don't have to worry about the kids getting dehydrated. It's a great way to spend a summer day without breaking the bank They have little gazebos that you can reserve for parties and such. There is grass surrounding the splash area. It's a great spot to sit and relax for awhile. This park is extremely easy to get to right off pyramid. It's fun for even adults to go get splashed and soak up some sun. My family rented out the Cottonwood Room at Lazy 5 Regional Park last November for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. It was a great location for the small gathering (about 50 people) that we had. They provided the long tables and folding chairs, but you must set them up yourself and provide the linens. There is a small kitchen just off the room that you can use as well (access to sink, refrigerator, microwave, and counter space). There is no Wi-Fi or Audio/Visual equipment available. There are onsite restrooms also. The deposit was $500, but refundable if the area is left clean and undamaged. The facility use fee is $90 per hour with a two hour minimum. Events must end by 5pm (including clean up and placing trash in the dumpster) or additional charges apply. Alcohol is not permitted unless you have a Facility Use Permit. Other rules (such as not using tape or nails for decorations) can be found on their website (www.washoecounty.us). The park ranger that let us in to the facility was very pleasant and helpful. She even lended us a pair of scissors as we neglected to bring a pair with us. My only complaint was it was a bit cold in the room, but I imagine it would not be cost effective to heat a 2400 square foot room that may or may not be used that day. We just chalked it up to having an event in November. Would absolutely consider using this venue again for an event. read more

This past weekend I felt like a kid again! Pulling into Lazy 5 I was transported back to the days of pre-school and elementary, when your social calendar was consumed by birthday parties. Sometimes you'd go to a pizza place, other times an arcade or someone's house, and then sometimes, if you were really lucky, there would be a kick ass bbq party at a park! Yeah. The sun, fresh cut grass, the smell of the charcoal and the sound of dogs and burgers sizzling away, potato chips, popcorn, plus epic playgrounds with jungle gyms, swings, and space galore! Wow. Those were the days! Well this weekend I sorta got to relive that for a brief moment in time thanks to a graduation party for our good friend Janie! Pulling into Lazy 5, I was impressed by the size. Yep. It matters when you're talking about a park. Lazy 5 boasts some big bodacious green space available for sitting, running, or whatever you might wanna use it for I suppose! There's also two areas, both complete with large party pavilions, with picnic tables! The first area is right up front, and easy to find, but the second area is kind of tucked away behind some large bushes, so just keep going when you think the park has ended and you'll find it. We didn't realize this was the case at first and parked and wandered around someone else's 5th birthday before figuring it out. Aside from the fields and pavilions, Lazy 5 has a skate park, mini splash park, and playgrounds. It's a great place to take the family, host a party, or just feel like you're out of the city for a bit. It's clean, bright, and well cared for, and you'll enjoy your time! read more

I was babysitting for the weekend and wanted a fun activity for the 6 year old I was watching. We drove out to Lazy 5 so she could play in the water / splash area. The location was easy to find and parking was plentiful and close. $3? So worth it. She enjoyed the bucket that fills and dumps out the most - there was a line of kids underneath it the entire time we were there. After she was done in the water park/splash pad area we were able to enjoy the playground. On a hot day it was definitely a playground that required a quick time out after sliding down a few of the slides in direct sun. BBQ/picnic area looked nice and spacious and there was plenty of grass to run around on and enjoy. I don't think i'd drive all the way out there to BBQ, but the splash pad was worth the trip! read more

I went to Lazy 5 today to look at the Cottonwood Room to possibly rent for an upcoming event I will be having. The park has plenty of parking and is clean. Right behind the Sparks Library off Pyramid Hwy. The space is large and can be split in half if you do not need all of the space, but it is rented as a whole. There is a large prep kitchen with a full sink, refrigerator/freezer and a ton of counter space. The restrooms are in the building, but down the hall from the event space. There are both round and rectangular banquet tables that are included in the rental and over 100 banquet chairs. This is nice, usually you have to pay for them. The space has tons of windows with natural light and double doors. Outside the space are multiple picnic tables and a full playground...and tons and tons of grassy area as well. The space rents for $75 an hour with a two hour min and a $500 refundable deposit. Events after 6 pm do require you to pay for security and there is the standard insurance policy you have to get in case one of your stupid friends decides to set the place on fire...ya know. You can bring your own food and alcohol to events or have a caterer come in. Plenty of space to do what you need to here. I really liked the space and it is on my short list. I would say if you are having a larger event, don't have a Golf Course or Resort budget and need space, then this is a great place. The ability to bring in your own food and alcohol is a super plus, that saves tons of money. It is a blank canvas building, so all décor and such you would need to provide. There is no theme to the room, it is very neutral. Like I said...I am a fan. This is a large space that is a blank canvas for you to add your own theme to and is a good deal. read more

I took Toddler to visit the Melio Gaspari Water Play Park yesterday, and she had a GREAT time! What a fantastic place to take your little ones in the summer. Like Kristina said, there is plenty of water and wet fun, but zero chance of drowning. There are lots of shady places for the adults to sit , and a concession stand if you get hungry (although you ARE allowed to bring in your own food--NICE!) Also, the entire park is fenced in, so you don't have to worry about your kids taking off. I highly recommend this place to anyone with kids...it is worth the drive! The rest of Lazy 5 is amazing, too! The playground is beautiful and immaculate; there are several large, rentable party pavilions; a community center; a skate park; and lots and lots of gorgeous, mature trees for hanging out under (this park used to be a ranch). This park has a little bit of everything! Conveniently located (for me anyhow) near my home, just off of pyramid highway. It is right next to the Spanish Springs Library so if you plan your day you could easily entertain your kids for most of it! There is a small water play area that is turned off in the winter. Huge grassy areas for running and playing sports, lots of scattered picnic tables and benches, bbq pits and there are a couple of areas that are covered and can be rented out for special events. They also have recreation building here. We haven't explored inside yet but it looks fairly small. There are bathrooms located inside this building which is very nice. The restrooms have always been clean when we visited. I didn't notice if there were changing tables. The play ground here has three structures all designed for different age groups. Lots of slides and great climbing. There is no shade near or on the playground area so this probably isn't the greatest spot in the middle of summer. We have been her twice in the winter and we always have the park to ourselves. The parking lot has a fair amount of parking spaces but it seems like it could get really full during the summer when the water play area is open. read more

My friend and I took her son here last weekend. We told him we were going to play in the water park, and he was so excited. We got there around 5:30, and whoops...they had closed at 5:00. So, we had a sad child. But, once he saw the "big boys' park" his frown turned upside down :) As the other yelpers said, the park was really nice. The jungle gym was lots of fun...even I played on it. The only bad thing is those horrible plastic structures conduct so much static electricity that you end up shocking yourself after you go down the slide! I don't know how it doesnt bother kids! Anyways, all the other park patrons were very nice. It will definately be a park we go to again! read more

You simply must have more food truck options on Wednesday's concerts. This has exploded in popularity over the years which is a good thing. Waiting an hour because of pure volume and at no fault of the trucks is going to ruin this type of event. Please work on this for the rest do the summer and next year. This review is about the concert in the park they hold every Wednesday starting at 6:30pm and ending at 8pm. Set in a grove of very old oak trees, there is plenty of shade on hot days. A recent addition as of last year is a small farmers market and craft area. There is a huge kids area to play, jungle jim , play structures, huge grass area to run in and some basketball courts. You are encouraged to bring a low back chair and dinner. No glass items are permitted, dogs are not allowed either. The concerts are free, local businesses sponsor the bands. The music can vary from reggae,to country,to celtic,to rock,to jazz and r&b. Tonight it was big band swing music. I truly love this venue being outside, but also it introduces me to music i usually do not listen to. Lazy 5 park is on the pyramid hwy next to the library. This is an EXCELLENT splash pad and park for the under-5 set. I went here with my 4 year old and 1 1/2 year old, and they both had a blast for a good 2 hours. Here are some details and highlights: - $3/person for anyone over 2. Maybe because of the fee, it did not seem crowded. - large but contained splash area with spouts, sprinklers, tipping buckets. Kids were running around, but I still felt safe letting my little guy crawl around this area. - splash area is surrounded by grass, about a dozen shaded picnic tables and some well-appointed trees: plenty of shade when it gets too warm. It seemed that people didn't stay for too long, so there was always a new shady spot opening up. - clean, family-friendly washrooms (changing tables and walk-in stalls). We'll be spending lots of time here this summer! read more

The park is beautiful and the facilities all look well kept. We have only used the splash pad and it is great! It was $9 for me and my two boys to get in. It's a good size pad with plenty of water features to keep the kids entertained. We went around 11AM and a shady spot was a little hard to come by, but still available. Some people brought their own umbrellas or small beach tents. You can bring your own food and drinks in, too. The library was nearby and although we didn't go in it, I'm sure it's just as nice inside as it is outside. read more

I took my kids to this Sprinkler Park today and it was so fabulous. You can pack a lunch and make a day of it. It didn't open right at 11:00 like they said, but it was so fun. There is no standing water, so you don't worry about your little ones drowning. It's only 2.00 to get in and 2 and under are free. It is perfect for kids 10-under. You can take blankets, umbrellas and coolers and sit and relax with a good book. It's like the beach only, without the worry of water. read more

This park is also great for weddings. My friend had her wedding there a couple of years ago and it was very nice. You can utilize the park area for the ceremony and the building for the reception. Everything looked very nice and it fit about 100-150 people that attended. I am not sure of the costs and the set up. I am sure you have to rent your own. read more

We just moved to the area, and I actually found out about the park from my bank teller one day when I mentioned we didn't really know about fun things to do with kids here. $2.00 to get in for the whole day, it's gated, it's fun, it's clean, there are restrooms, there's shade - can't beat the entertainment for the price. And the snacks are super cheap! I gave DD $1.00 and she came back with a big pile of licorice sticks. This is a fun place for kids, no doubt - pack up that sunscreen and go! read more

This park is relatively close to me considering I live in Palomino valley. They do fun concerts in the park in the summer time that are free. I love getting my kids out in the fresh air and listening to local bands of different genres playing. You can bring a picnic with you and a beer or wine and just really have a great time. The water park is a fenced in area with about a dozen sprinkler-type water features. There are benches and tables under shaded areas and 4 large umbrellas on grassy areas. The bathrooms are clean. You can bring in outside food, and they sell soda, candy, pretzels, hot dogs, ice cream, and snacks for reasonable prices. Most of the kids were under 10, and were having a good time. It does get windy. It's $2 for everyone who enters (age 2 to 62) -- not just for the kids who are going to play in the water. read more
