My hat is off to the City of Sparks for how they keep this park clean and usable. The grass is immaculate, the gazebo. and swim area are all approachable. The restrooms are even reasonable & the park doesn't reek of urine like most of the ones along the Truckee River walk. Plenty of parking. read more

The Rock Park has nothing to do with Dwayne Johnson. If you come here expecting that to be the case you will be disappointed. There is a parking lot to park in. There are bathrooms at this park. The bathrooms were clean when I was there. There is a paved bike path which goes through the park. The park has a few great places to access the Truckee River. There are river spots at this park which would be great for kids to swim. There are a few covered eating areas with picnic tables underneath. The playground is the same playground found at several other parks in Sparks. There is a large play structure and a small play structure. Wood chips are underneath the playground. There are no swings at this park. The park was clean but the parking lot was surprisingly dirty. There was a lot of trash on the ground. I did not see any homeless people at this park even though they seem to be occupying every other park in this area. Have fun out there. -Dadzone read more

Recently had a horrible experience & WON'T ever be back. Decided to bring my kids to play while setting up a picnic & 2 ladies approached walking dogs. Watched me & my children for at least 30 minutes then proceeded to grab binoculars from the car to watch my children play at the park ! Lots of Racist Comments & Slurs. Large city park located on the north bank of the Truckee River There's a huge flat grassy area for picnics and games with large groups, or social distancing. A good sized playground. Restroom facilities. Several large shade trees. Covered picnic table areas. And lots of parking. I recently took advantage of the parking space to gain access to the Tahoe Pyramid Trail. The trail runs through the park at the river's edge. This was a great meet up spot to start from and circle back to. The park is very well maintained and clean. There are a handful of people living in their cars- which is posted as illegal. But still a safe area. Great access to the Truckee River available here for fishing or a little tubing. read more

It's a nice park that has a kids playground and a covered area and a few picnic tables. Access to the river to launch small boats. Nice green grass but watch out for the ducks. PS: sadly it's full of the homeless too. read more

I went in looking for a long term space for my 5th wheel, the girl in the office let me know what i needed to turn in to get the process started. I did all the things she asked of me I had let her know what year make and model my 5th wheel was and she informed me that since it was an older trailer (2009) I would need to send pictures in for management to approve. I did so she even looked at them and said she saw NO REASON why it would be denied - its literally in damn near perfect condition . So I sent in the pictures and waited and waited and waited , tried calling each day at all different times of the day - never could get anyone to answer the phone - so after about 5 days of waiting (she was supposed to reach out to me) I physically went into the office to find her sitting on the couch watching movies and when I asked about the approval of the pictures she tried to say that she had called me and told me that they did not approve my 5th wheel. But she could not tell me why they did not approve it. So when I walked out of the office I drove through the park to see what kind of trailers they did approve - most of the trailers in there were way older than mine and very few were in as good of condition as mine. I feel like they just pick and choose when they decided to do their jobs and are shadey in the fact she couldnt tell me WHY mine wasnt acceptable. The Rock Park is located along a stretch of the Pyramid Lake trail that goes from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake, located down in the industrial district area where Summitt Racing and some warehouses and stuff are. The path through this area for biking is generally pretty flat until you hit the west end of it where there might be a few dips and a rise somewhere before heading on your way to to next park west which is Gateway Park (after passing under West McCarran). The path east takes you all the way to the train line behind a Semi dealership where more trail is planned but not yet executed (though I see a dirt trail nearby). Generally this place is not all that populated, even on nice days, so passing through should not be much of a problem. However, I find it one of my favorite stopping points when traveling on the trail by bike. You might pass one or two joggers and maybe a couple bikes on the way through but usually it's pretty clear. There are no businesses nearby to buy food or drink on your stop though, so bring some with you. The only negative experiences i've had in this area is being chased by yellowjackets from a hit mile marker pole, and being flagged down by a mental case insisting there are aligators in the water. That's only a couple of the many times I've passed by and stopped to stretch my legs at The Rock Park. read more

If you are looking for a park that is not super crowded on the weekends then this may be your place! It is definitely off the beaten path of day to day travels. We came for a birthday party on a Sunday afternoon and there was us and a few other people. There is a bike/running path that goes through the park. There is lots of room to spread out if there if the park is busy. It is right next to the river. So two things came to mind... The river is very easily accessible as there is no fencing or any barricade to stop you. And it is a short walk from the main path to the river. With that being said you really have to keep an eye on little kids who love water or may want to take a closer look. There is nothing there to stop them from accessing the water's edge. When we went the water was somewhat shallow but rocky and the water was moving fast. There is plenty of parking and a small building with bathrooms. Kind of a far walk if you have littles playing at the park. Especially if they like to wait till the last minute to say something. My last concern with this park which is why it only got 3 starts was since it is along the river in an industrial/business area there is a lot of drifters and homeless who live along the rivers edge. And pass through on bikes. You never know what you may find laying around. We found a few unfavorable items in the dirt. We handled and disposed of them properly. We will probably only visit this park if we are invited to an event here. read more

Pro Tip. Dwayne Johnson is not here. I repeat Dwayne Johnson is NOT here. Instead. We have a park with a similar name. Named not after the muddy pools of water that you squish through when you are enjoying the man-made rapids. I am guessing instead they would have named it after a blues guitarist. The park is nice. Usually busy with families and different sparks denizens coming down for some faux nature time. This is of course why I thought of it. Why go farther away and scramble on rocks that aren't actually concreted in place? Why go to a spot where the road hike is long and you get to all huddle in a deep pool only 3 feet wide? Yeah, me neither. Instead after work this is a quick cool off spot if you just haven't been able to shake the heat of the day and your core body temperature is about 99 and just won't come down. Parking is pretty good. Shade can be found. Tables seem to be in ample supply. Road noise is like the calming crash of the waves at the ocean. And if you get into the center of the beautiful Truckee river...you get a uniquely Reno view. The GIANT looming presence of a Casino tucked into a quaint tree and river snapshot. I'm going to institute a new scale. I'm calling it the visitors index. The index will be a number. That number will correlate to the number of days you need to visit Reno before putting this location on your to-do list. If it is a "Must Do" it will get a 1. Visitors Index = 14 read more

Avoid this place. Its so gross. My work is less than a mile from here and what I've noticed each time I come is the number of derelicts. No one could possibly be paying taxes at a place that CONSISTENTLY allow doing their bathroom - grooming #1 & #2 right in the open. Sad! Its every time! Gross! I've been looking for an ideal spot (clean, with lots of grass, nice shade, river nearby, serene, with not too much dog and human traffic for letting dog loose to play) that I can take both my one year old and dog and this has got to be it! The pavement trail doesn't loop but it extends very far in both directions from the parking lot (making it ideal for cyclist). The trail really is nice with only industrial businesses (like Fedex) neighboring by with little to workers in sight. I loved that the trail was nicely paved, lined with trees, and wasn't just straight. It was interesting with lots of curbs and tranquil with the sounds of the river playing in the background. Right next to the parking lot is a shaded eating area and playgound and very large grassy area. The grass was well kept and seemed very clean. The only con to this place is I that I saw three cardboard boxes on the floor near the bridge meaning there most likely are some homeless people floating around. Heck, I'd pick this park if I were homeless. Fishing, scenery, clean grass. Hahaha. I've been to: *Virginia Lake Park (Nice for taking baby to see animals, too dirty for dogs - geese droppings everywhere. Park across street has lots of cigarette butts laying around. has a nice loop for walks around a lake, great shade for parking and walking) *Huffaker Park (insufficient shade and grass area for dog and baby to play around) *Damonte Ranch Park (high in dog traffic and grass not as clean in feel, though nice long 4mile loop for walking with not much shade) *Idlewild Park(grass area not big enough for me) *Davis Creek Regional Park (no grass area to hang around, but nice short hiking trails in the wilderness, only 15min drive on freeway from reno) *Mayberry Park (top 2nd choice, but too far a drive from my house. has a nice river and trail, lots of clean grassy areas with shade from trees, bbq grills available) *Rancho San Rafael Park (there are dog restricted areas , no shade) *South Valley Regional Park (love this park on the weekends and evenings when there aren't any baseball games going on. they leave the field open at all times and the huge grass area is nice play on. well kept and super clean) read more

Surprised that there aren't many reviews for Rock Park. I went on Mother's Day around 2:40. It wasn't that crowded and people are spread out everywhere. The park isn't wide but it is long. It's a really quaint park and my dog enjoyed getting his paws wet in the Truckee River and shitting along the grass (I picked it up don't worry). -1 for 1 thing. It's right next to an RV park. I pass this park, driving down Rock, all the time, but I always considered it an inconvenient place to have a park. Sure, it is easy to access, but who wants to go to a park located on the side of a busy road? Well, this parkland goes along with the saying "Never judge a book by its cover." My husband, daughter and I decided to come here and check out their trail. It's surprisingly beautiful! (Especially right now, with all the leaves changing colors!) We walked along their trail for sometime and still didn't reach its end. I was so surprised by how big this place actually is. They have a cute, little playground and some swimming/fishing spots along the river. Of course, it has some rough spots (i.e. graffiti) but it is a really sweet spot, in Reno, to enjoy a bike ride, walk or run! I will definitely be back to explore more of what the park has to offer. read more

We just had a BBQ there for a Birthday party. Let me tell you, this place gets packed. I was not expecting this place to get so crowded. It was a zoo. We got there early to set up somewhere shady, it was around 9am. And the people were already there claiming their spots. There are shades that I believe you have to pay for, but you can get there and pick a spot for free as well. We set up and by 12pm the place was a crawling with people. What attracts people the most is the newly designed area for swimming and rafting. The biggest problem at this place is PARKING. There isn't enough of it. I suggest coming early and leaving before 2 to be able to enjoy this place. Other than that its a really nice shady place to chill. read more

When I'm training for longer runs, this is absolutely my go-to park. It gets tiring trying to figure out a 10-miler from my house and around the neighborhood, but this place makes it super easy. A nice, scenic run along the river that has many areas of shade, seclusion, and even bathrooms and water fountains along the way. Big thanks to whoever marked the half-mile and mile points along the trail. Though nothing too steep, there's a few hills along the way that challenge the muscles and provide a nice change from an otherwise flat run. read more
