My family and I stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We're a young family of three with a 3 year old. It didn't seem very busy and we were seated almost immediately. The host was very high strung. It seemed like she did a couple lines before getting starting her shift. She was racing around the restaurant like the place was on fire. I almost lost her when she was guiding us to our seats, which were in the back corner of the restaurant. She asked what we wanted to drink before we were even seated. After bringing our waters, we didn't see anyone for twenty minutes, except when they took the order of the table next to us that was seated AFTER we were. We stuck it out for another ten minutes. When the table next to us asked for creamer the host grabbed the creamer off of our table as if we weren't even there. We walked out because 3 year olds are not that patient. read more

The Window Box Café is tucked-away off of Five Star Blvd in Rocklin. The restaurant had previous lives as a couple different Mexican Restaurants (originally a 'Cafe Delicias') which explains what appears to be a nod to the Mission Revival architecture of the exterior. Once you pass through the large arched dark wood doors, you enter the lobby which then opens to the main dining area. The interior is bright and open with high ceilings and large dark wooden beams but not much else hinting at the exterior theming. I was seated quickly and asked if I would like anything to drink while I looked over the menu. Coffee was quickly delivered to my table and I decided to try the Breakfast Croissant sandwich with hash browns. The meal was also quickly delivered to the table and my server, Mackenzie (apologies if I spelled that incorrectly) was very attentive, checking on me several times to make sure I had everything I needed and topping-off my coffee. The croissant was fresh with a nice filling of shaved ham, jack and cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs. The hash browns were fine but could have been improved with a little more butter, salt and browning to crisp-up the exterior. If you come for breakfast, you should be aware that there is a Breakfast Specials menu, however you may not receive it with your regular menu...just ask your server. I found a pic here on Yelp after placing my order and verified that Breakfast specials were still being offered as of this review. Looks like there are some great deals on there. Overall, this restaurant is a good breakfast option when dining in Rocklin with a good variety of traditional American breakfast items. The food is A-OK and I'm bumping-up to 4 stars because of the fast friendly service I received from Mackenzie. read more

The amount of food is adequate, however, the French toast came out Luke warm but very eye appealing. The bacon was old and cold. The eggs were cooked very nicely, but the potatoes had absolutely NO flavor and we're cold. The good part...my server. Maria (just goes to show as that is my ex-wife name) was a dream. I came across this gem by accident, and couldn't wait to try it out. Their coffee is a smooth roast, and it's served with a little bucket of creamers. The day I went I had the reeses pancake meal, an I have to say the pancakes were off the chain! I forgot that I was eating pancakes, and almost didn't even need syrup. What a sweet little breakfast brunch spot. We stopped in for a late morning weekday brunch and the place was mostly empty. Service was quick and friendly. I have a dietary restriction due to allergy and the server was super accommodating to help me make a choice from the menu that was delicious ! The decor is super sweet and a mash up of modern and grandmas house.... I loved it! Right colors, window boxes of course, and funky chairs. The food was really good. Charming little breakfast and lunch spot tucked away just off the beaten track. My wife and I went there for brunch on a weekend and didn't have any wait to be seated. I didn't know what to expect when I ordered "Swedish pancakes", which ended up being several crepes folded over and included a tasty berry sauce. This is a great little breakfast spot less right around the corner from our neighborhood. When we're feeling too lazy (or hungover) we stop by Window Box. They've got an amazing staff that is personal and caring. They've always got a few cool specials on the menu and the coffee isn't half bad like most breakfast spots. We've tried a lot of the menu at this point and I haven't ordered anything I wouldn't order again. They're quick, not too expensive and always seem to have a table open ready when you walk in. We ordered a breakfast sandwich, California eggs Benedict and cinnamon roll pancakes. Although the cinnamon roll pancakes weren't on the kids' menu the waitress had them made for my daughter. The pancakes were so good. I was expecting regular unassuming pancakes with cinnamon and frosting but I was so wrong. These very like nothing I ate before. My husband was blown away by his eggs Benedict. We ordered a side of fruit and it was so fresh and yummy. It included kiwi and strawberries which isn't too common at restaurants. The prices were fair and we were pleased that the table had french vanilla creamer. The location was quaint, open and clean. Our entire visit lasted only 35 minutes. Kiwi was like a rock and it's not edible. Honeydew was too ripe. Strawberries were ok. 2 Stars. Pancakes were great! I saw they have several kind of pancakes so I'll try one next time. Staying at the Holiday Inn across the street & although the hotel serves a hot breakfast I decided to walk across the street to the cafe!! I was greeted promptly & seated right away! The server was very quick & friendly! She made appropriate suggestions & helped narrow my search based on my questions!! She listened & took care of me!! I ordered the half waffle & 2 sausages--coffee, and added a side egg scrambled soft with cheese! It's usually a crap shoot on breakfast sausage but I'll say this was better than usual!! I decided to try this place out because I found a coupon. I walked in on a Thursday morning around 9 am and the restaurant was completely empty, usually not a great sign for a breakfast spot. There was no sign instructing me to wait or seat myself so I decided to go walk and sit at a table. No one even saw me for about 4 minuets, but they did greet me after that. We ordered 2 omelettes, they were pretty basic nothing special. The server was extremely friendly and even the owner greeted me. They were still putting their specials up at 9 am??? I probably won't try this place again even with a coupon as there are much better places to eat in Rocklin. If you are looking for great breakfast I would go and try Granite Rock Grill in Rocklin. But this is just strictly my personal opinion. read more

I am writing this review in hopes that people will stand with me against discrimination. I got a phone call this morning from the owner of Windowbox. She called to offer me a server position. Towards the end of our conversation she asked me how old I am (that is illegal)I went to meet her as she wanted to show me around the Restaurant. When I arrived she said she did not want to hire me.I am a very good waitresses and find this blatant age discrimination very unacceptable, I hope anyone that has been through this kind of discrimination to find A different place to eat. read more

I can't in good conscience rate this any higher than 2 stars. Food was okay. Ordered the veggie omelette and it had a couple of hidden pieces of bacon in it. The potatoes and toast were both dripping with oil, so I ended up not eating those. The reason for the low rating is the service. We started off getting sat immediately and, after about 5 minutes had to go ask for a menu because the hostess neglected to bring us one. Mind you, she came around and gave 3 other tables menus, but not us. We quickly order, and are brought smaller cups of coffee. We end up finishing those and ask for refills, but those don't come until our food is brought out. After we received our food and refills, we are not once checked on by our waitress. We don't see her until it's time clear our plates and give us our bill. When she brings us the bill, she asks if we'd like a refill on the coffees that have been empty for almost 20 minutes now, to which we say yes. She says she'll be right back with our coffee and to take the bill. We said great, and never saw her again. Pissed off at this point by the service, we say screw it, take the bill to the front and ask the lady behind the register to settle our bill. My husband hands her his card, and she walks away with it for some reason. About a minute or so later, she comes back, sticks the card in the machine that is up front (negating any reason for her to need to WALK AWAY with the card in the first place) and gives him the receipt to sign. He signs it, hands it over, and she begins to walk away again. He has to ask her for his card BACK. One of the worst experiences of my life. Will never return. read more

I came here for breakfast last week and was happy I did. The food was above average. The service was great. And the wait times were impressively low. Upon entering this place, you can tell that the owner cares about their business. It is beautifully decorated and the staff is well trained and polite. The food is made with great quality ingredients and the staff makes an effort towards its presentation. There are also a lot of options on the menu so you are sure to find something you will enjoy. Overall, I have very little to complain about other than it being priced a little higher than average. But they make up for it with the quality and experience. We came here after reading the reviews, and were not disappointed. The Southwest Scramble was the special, so I ordered it. It was really tasty and seasoned well. I got the small pancakes with it instead of toast, and they were yummy. My wife ordered the "Homemade Corned Beef Hash" and it tasted great, although she said the potatoes were a little bland. We got a Cinnamon Roll because other reviewers said we should, but I was very disappointed. It tasted like it was old; a bit dry and not quite sweet enough. My only complaint it's that the coffee was terrible. I will definitely return, just so I can order the Chunky Monkey Pancakes!! read more

If you care for genuine customer service and non-oily food I wouldn't recommend this. The owner or the manager lady with short hair (Asian looking one) didn't know basics of customer service and was rude. She just pay attention to money and produce more food quickly to prevent losing waiting customers. She apologized in a fake and rushed way for her mistake. Kept a very rude face all the way. Oh my goodness!! A new cafe is in town! Come delight your palette with a sweet selection of pancakes including one with bananas, chocolate chips, caramel topped with whip cream! (Which I had an it was simply amazing!) Or how about an oreo cookie pancake. Wait...a Reese's pancake! There are so many combinations to choose from! The atmosphere was warm and inviting. They have a room off of the main dining area where groups can meet. The staff was very sweet and friendly!! The prices are reasonable. I went for breakfast. The food came quickly and was exactly what I had expected. Then I had a pancake with bananas, chocolate chips, caramel and whip cream! Food was alright. The eggs benny actually tasted like eggs benny without trying to be weird which I really appreciated. Last few times I've gone out it just has been... Underpar. Window box nailed it. Service was a little hot and cold, making us feel a little rushed, forgetting half a meal but then they more than made up for it in sweetly boxing it up and swooping in for the win at the end. Came for Saturday brunch. They were not busy although we had to wait a few minutes for them to clean a table. I ordered an omlette. What I did love was the option of having 2 mini pancakes in lieu of toast as I usually like having a bit of pancakes but not a whole order. It was a knotch above Dennys but nowhere close to 4 Sisters. I would probably give a 4 if not for the non-existent service. We never saw our young waitress besides taking our order and dropping of the check. Had to wave down the water guy as he passed to refill our drinks. I could understand if they were super busy but they were not. Had maybe 5 other tables there. Prices are comparable to other similar cafes. I would probably return if we were right there but it is definitely not a place I would say Hey you gotta come here. read more

Every time I come home to Sacramento this is place is on my must visit list, plus mom loves it. I was appalled by one thing though, the absolutely inconsiderate customer that refused to pay their bill on the way out. Did you even stop to consider that maybe, just maybe you weren't the only person in the restaurant and that the staff was trying their hardest to serve everyone who came in with their families today? I get it, we have all probably had one less than desirable dining experience. But you can tell the difference between a staff that cares and one that doesn't. I tend to only review HIGH or LOW (which I'm not a fan of doing to a business, hoping MY experience was just a fluke.) We like this quaint little place. We have ONLY come at brunch time (post Sunday Service.) I will start by saying, very busy. I don't think we've ever waited more than 20 minutes, so how can that be considered bad? The food has always been excellent, I am partial to the Eggs Benedict and California Eggs Benedict. The portions are large, and the wait staff is very friendly. We enjoy this gem very much, just be prepared to wait a bit for a table (it is rather small, but very cute inside!) read more
