Found this cute little gem, perfect for brunches on the weekend. I loved the decor and homeyness of this place :) Lots of parking in front which is awesome. We were greeted and seated right away. I got the breakfast burrito with coffee and was very satisfied. The only thing I was questioning was why they put such little sour cream in the little container.. it's already small, let's not skimp anymore! My friend got the steak and eggs and asked for it to be cooked medium. It definitely came out WELL DONE. So that was pretty disappointing. Well, i was in the mood for a fluffy omelet, i have been here once before and didnt care for it but i thought I'd give it another try. Let me start with the good things. The ladies were amazing, the coffee was good and the food came out minutes after I ordered. Heres why.. The omelet was just eggs folded with veggies inside, the cheese was processed sliced swiss. The owner appears to have zero clue as to what is going on with how to read the waitlist. Waited for ocer 1.5 hours on Mother's Day, was skipped numerous times because the owner scribbles all over the waitlist, inadvertently writing over people's names who have not been seated. Everything is in complete disarray. Would not reccomend, especially if you're celebrating something. The only reason I'm giving this disaster two stars is because the rest of the staff is buzzing around working hard. read more

Window Box Cafe is fine. Is it the best breakfast around? No. Is it a place you can get seated on a Saturday without an hour wait and get decent food? Yes. If I could rate them 3.5 stars, that would hit the nail on the head. The Good: After trying to get into Mimosa House on a Saturday around 1:00pm for a late breakfast, where they were so busy they weren't even taking names for their list, we decided to try Window Box Cafe. We pulled up and weren't sure they were open because there were only 3-4 cars in the parking lot. We walked in and only about two tables were occupied so we were seated right away. I ordered a breakfast burrito and my wife got a traditional egg, bacon and potato breakfast. Both were fine. Nothing to write home about but certainly more then simply sustenance. Plus the owner was there and friendly. The Bad: A bit pricey. Each of our entrees were about $13-14 and weren't huge. The type of meal where you debate having a snack when you get home to really make sure you're full. We also got a cinnamon roll to share early on but I'm 90% sure it was an out of the package pasty that they threw in the oven. The food was 7.5/10. All in all, I'm not mad I tried it but given there are so many great places around, it's unlikely I'll come back. They just lacked a "secret sauce" which may be the reason for how quiet it was on a Saturday morning. read more

Since I had to head out to the Rocklin area to get a few errands out of the way, Joe K and I decided to make a fun day out of it by starting the morning with breakfast at a place we hadn't been before. Joe had read good reviews about this restaurant before and suggested we try them out. This cute and cozy cafe has a Spanish style exterior, with an old fashioned "grandmas house" interior. We were greeted and seated right away to a small table for two with tacky 1950's table cloths and flea market mix & match tableware. The artsy menu was just as quaint and had a delicious array of breakfast selections. We had hard decisions to make, but managed to narrow things down. I ordered Veggie Crepes with fruit, while Joe ordered Chicken Fried Steak with eggs, hash browns & wheat toast. We both had coffee and ice water. My veggie dish was very good with a tasty blend of perfectly cooked vegetables and the crepe had a slightly sweet texture which added to the whole culinary experience. Joe said his chicken fried steak was good also, but nothing extraordinary. Our waiter was friendly and polite, giving us a satisfactory start to our day. Went here for the first time with the bf. Glad he picked this spot, it wasn't as crowded as the place I picked so we were seated right away and we got our food in a timely manner. We got our check pretty quickly so I appreciated that we didn't have to wait for it, but I kind of felt like we got it a little too quickly while we were still eating our food...like maybe they were trying to get rid of us for coming in. The waitress didn't even say anything about taking our time eating and that they'll help us when we're ready, she just put the check on the table without a word. She did check on us to see if everything was alright, that's better than nothing. Bacon waffle - pretty good, ate the entire thing. Cooked perfectly, not overcooked or too soft. Not a common item in a lot of places so I really appreciated the unique option of bacon cooked into my waffle. First place I've seen it offered on a brunch menu in Sacramento. Over easy eggs - a little runny so they could have been cooked a little longer but it didn't bother me too much. Sausages - hard to mess up sausages but they were pretty tasty, not hard and overcooked. Great for dipping in syrup. read more

Cute place but I can see why it wasn't really packed on a Sunday at 9 compared to brunch places in the Bay Area. Service was good, though! We got the biscuits and gravy and California Benedict (with ham rather than turkey) and coffee and OJ. The biscuits and gravy were good. Their home fries were fried well but not seasoned much. Benedict was a bit disappointing. It was nice that they were up for the substitution of ham for turkey without question. The veggies were good, English muffin was nicely toasted, and eggs were cooked perfectly, but the sauce lacked the signature tang and tiny, tiny bit of heat of a good freshly made hollandaise. The ham was also a type of ham product (like compacted pork rather than a slice of Canadian bacon or something like that) that was a bit gummy and underwhelming. They have the potential to have a really fantastic Benedict with a tweak and a little upgrade. OJ was not freshly squeezed, just in case that's your jam. Coffee seemed fine. They do seem to have various types of mimosas so that could be fun. They could also use to clean their giant salt/pepper shakers more often perhaps; very hard to get any pepper out to spice up the home fries. Luckily the server brought out hot sauce without us even asking for it! Overall, a-ok, but not mind blowing breakfast/brunch. read more

This looks like a promising breakfast and brunch place, and the menu looked great. I ordered eggs Benedict with the turkey option instead of ham. What came out was a soggy English muffin topped with what looked like turkey cold cuts, spinach leaves, hard boiled poached eggs, and a sauce that had the consistency of Hollandaise but absent any taste. Then "home fries" were undercooked and hard. It was just poor quality cooking of something that should be an easy bar to reach. Love this place! This was my first time coming to Window Box Cafe...my husband and I were itching to go to a restaurant since the coronavirus shelter lockdown. We heard through the grapevine that some restaurants were opening in Placer county and through a friends check in at Window Box Cafe, he (my friend) mentioned that Window Box Cafe was opened for in dining customers; yay! I called ahead of time for dining hours; the hostess mentioned that they were opened for breakfast and lunch between the times of 7 in the morning to 3 o' clock in the afternoon. I asked if we had to wear masks and she said no and that we didn't have to make any reservations either. Since my husband and I had last Tuesday off from work, we decided to grab some breakfast. We went in around 9:30 in the morning. There were not a lot of people there (probably because it was it was a Tuesday) and the waitress/ hostess was kind and immediately show us to our table. The menus were made of paper and were disposable too (maybe due to precautionary measures I'm sure) and they were so many awesome dishes to chose from. I chose the banana pecan pancakes topped strawberries and whipped cream on the side. My husband got an egg scramble omelette with toast; our food was amazing and delicious. I finished off my entire plate and so did my husband. Customer service was perfect as our waitress was super sweet and attentive. I stopped in for breakfast since I was close by here this morning. I had the California Benny and county potatoes with coffee. The food was tasty, potato's nice crispy on outside, and Hollandaise was just right! The server Chad was great!! He was very helpful with ordering and right on top of taking care of the tables and people's needs, without being intrusive. The patio is well shaded and set up well for social distancing. The inside of the restaurant is really cute and beautifully decorated! Bathroom was clean and elegantly done in its decor. Nice little cafe off of Five Star. Interesting floor plan, much like a house with many small rooms. The colors are cheerful (a lot of yellow), with flowers, window boxes, and little sayings all over the restaurant. First thing I did notice was the vinyl tablecloths that looked pretty retro, but maybe that's the look they're going for. I'd think this would really appeal to older folks. We went on a Wednesday for lunch and had a good experience. It was the first time the three of us had been there, though my coworker said she had been there in the past when it was a Mexican restaurant. The hostess/server was friendly and attentive. I ordered a denver omelette, and my coworkers ordered eggs benedict. Everything came quickly and looked great. My omelette was probably one of the best I've had at a cafe. Ordered $16 pancake special that came with maple syrup. To my dismay, it came without genuine maple syrup. Turns out that it is "maple flavored syrup". I only like maple syrup on my pancakes so only ate the eggs and bacon with my dish. To cafe's credit, the item was taken off our bill. However, being asked if I would like something else, even a piece of toast to go with the eggs, would have gone a long way and would have prevented my trip to another establishment afterwards because I was still hungry. The places smells home-y... like when mom is cooking up breakfast! I got the Denver omelette (no peppers), house potatoes, and mini pancakes. All were EXCELLENT! Coincidentally, I was in Seattle the day before at a "pancake" place... the cakes at WBC were 1,000x better! Oh, server (Randy) was fantastic! As I type this in my phone, some folks' orders just passed by me... DANG! I wish I was staying longer to try the burgers - they look fantastic!!! Best food in Rocklin/ Roseville area! Had the chicken fried steak and eggs with they're home fries and it was so delicious! My friend had the Swedish pancakes(crepes) that are featured on two local magazine covers! Seriously the best breakfast we've had in a long time. Great for Sunday after-church brunch or a family outing. Nice place/decor; unique personality; generally quiet; not overly trendy nor diner-like. Menu has good selection of pancake, waffle, and French toast options, plus a few different egg and omelet dishes. I haven't tried their lunch options yet. Never have had to wait. If you're at the 4 sisters and can't deal with the wait, hop down the road to window box and you'll be in for a treat. The the service was excellent. 3 different people stopped at our table about 6 times, no joke! 5 stars! Let's face it people there is only 4 real components to Eggs Benedict. Yet I have only had it one time that it was done right. You got to know how to make a proper hollandaise sauce, none of that canned crap, quality ham and eggs with a yolk that stays runny. Let me tell you this was a grand slam out of da park!! The absolute best Benedict I have ever had, hands down. Creamy runny eggs yokes, QUALITY HAM, hollandaise sauce to die for on a perfectly cooked English muffin. The Benedict is so good I'm contemplating driving 3 hours just to have them again. The owners are super sweet people who care about customers and service. They use real butter in there recipe's and make alot of the food from scratch. The Place: It's always nice when a place is easy to find. It's located right on the corner so can't miss it. It has a nice homey/cozy feel when you walk in. We were greeted with a smile and sat right away. It's kid friendly with high chairs available and the climate control was comfortable. The Service: Our server was fast, kind and attentive. I always appreciate when they mind 1 year old son's reach, place things out of his way and acknowledge him. The Food: I got the biscuits/gravy combo with scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and bottomless iced vanilla coffee. The food was good and the coffee was weak, but served its purpose.
