My girlfriend and I were looking for breakfast places that didn't have a crazy wait time on Father's Day and stumbled on this hole in the wall with high hopes. We were seated quickly and the staff seemed nice. There was about 6-7 tables of people ranging from 2-4 guests at each. We were given water right away and looked over the menu, however we did not speak with a server for about 20 minutes after that. Assuming they were understaffed, we didn't think much of it. A server took our order, I ordered a basic scramble they have called "the big mess" with a side of fruit and sourdough and my girlfriend ordered, verbatim "the California omelet with no meat, and add mushrooms" and a side of fruit and mini pancakes. We again waited patiently for food to arrive. While we waited, I noticed a table that was seated after us was pleasantly enjoying their meal they ordered. Our meal showed up finally...well...someone's meal. I got my scramble delivered with neither the fruit or toast present, my girlfriend got a chicken fried steak after ordering a veggie omelette. We didn't think much of it because it was clearly just someone else's meal, no big deal! We then wait another 10 minutes as if they had never made her omelette to begin with. After some time, the server comes back with two, three inch pancakes (not a complaint!) and a story as to why the omelette wasn't ready. She comes back with the "the California omelet with no meat, and add mushrooms", full of bacon... it genuinely took us by surprise. We are NOT the type to walk out of a restaurant, in fact I never have before today. The final nail in the coffin was when I saw a table receive another wrong order just like ours, and the server having to bring it back to the kitchen. Maybe a nice whole in the wall at one point, but today was the last time we come here. I genuinely do not believe this restaurant deserves 4 stars overall. Good luck everyone! read more

Oh my goodness!! A new cafe is in town! Come delight your palette with a sweet selection of pancakes including one with bananas, chocolate chips, caramel topped with whip cream! (Which I had an it was simply amazing!) Or how about an oreo cookie pancake. Wait...a Reese's pancake! There are so many combinations to choose from! The atmosphere was warm and inviting. They have a room off of the main dining area where groups can meet. The staff was very sweet and friendly!! The prices are reasonable. I went for breakfast. The food came quickly and was exactly what I had expected. Then I had a pancake with bananas, chocolate chips, caramel and whip cream! (Have I mentioned yet that they have these deilghtful pancakes?!) I only wanted one bite...I just wanted to see what it would taste like. One bite! Yep, I only wanted one bite! What ended up happening...I left one bite on my plate! It was delicious! Oh, me, oh my! You must check out this local breakfast place. Food was alright. The eggs benny actually tasted like eggs benny without trying to be weird which I really appreciated. Last few times I've gone out it just has been... Underpar. Window box nailed it. Service was a little hot and cold, making us feel a little rushed, forgetting half a meal but then they more than made up for it in sweetly boxing it up and swooping in for the win at the end. Came for Saturday brunch. They were not busy although we had to wait a few minutes for them to clean a table. I ordered an omlette. What I did love was the option of having 2 mini pancakes in lieu of toast as I usually like having a bit of pancakes but not a whole order. It was a knotch above Dennys but nowhere close to 4 Sisters. I would probably give a 4 if not for the non-existent service. We never saw our young waitress besides taking our order and dropping of the check. Had to wave down the water guy as he passed to refill our drinks. I could understand if they were super busy but they were not. Had maybe 5 other tables there. Prices are comparable to other similar cafes. I would probably return if we were right there but it is definitely not a place I would say Hey you gotta come here. read more

Coffee on par with local breakfast locations. Menu didn't hold any unique creations or interesting ingredients that would push this place to a must visit. Around 10:am we ladies walked in to The Window Box Cafe and low & behold, our favorite fellas were waiting for a table!! :) Daughter got CHUNKY MONKEY PANCAKES, sausage (tad spicy, but delish!) Son got THREE CHEESE OMELETTE, hashbrowns & toast. Hubby enjoyed the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK & EGGS. Such a great find! So welcoming, clean & the service & food was top notch! I never had to ask for anything to be refilled. Food is absolutely amazing, tasty - well seasoned, not too much or too little and portions are right on! Our waitress Julie was extraordinary. Love this place for breakfast. (Haven't been here for lunch). The food is always fresh and hot. The service is really good and always with a smile. It gets busy on weekends so you may have to wait but it's worth it. My favorite dish is the chicken fried steak and eggs but I've had their waffles and their omelette both of which are really good. Ample parking and good for kids too. This is a great place to start your day with some home cooked breakfast. Sure puts the IHOP across the street to shame...and the price is right. read more

Dropped by Window Box for breakfast between appointments. Only few another diners in otherwise quite empty cafe, but took a bit longer than expected for our order. The food arrived fast enough, though; large slab of salty ham, smooth and creamy sunny side eggs, and crunchy toasts. The second order was 2 large cinnamon pancakes with slightly sweet & chewy goodness. Few strip of bacons on the side to wrap up the yummy pancakes. Recently went on a Sunday morning. There was a little wait as this place is not that big. It was about 10 minutes for a table of 3, somewhat expected on a weekend. The menu has a good variety, not a ton of vegetarian options but enough. I decided on the veggie crepe and was not disappointed. It was packed with veggies, the crepe was thin and flavorful, maybe a little too much hollandaise sauce. The one issue I had with it was there was something weird and chewy in it. I am not sure if it was meat or a kind of mushroom that just was not right. I did not eat it and found the other weird pieces and picked them out. I have sadly been bacon poisoned on more than one occasion when ordering specific vegetarian options, so this might have been one of those. Like I said, I was able to pick it out, but even if it was meat it was horribly inedible. The coffee was good and the staff attentive. read more

Had breakfast there the other day and it was good. Well, my omelette was really good and my wife's pancakes and eggs were decent. Service was very good until the end. Had a weird situation where we got our check to pay and it was one amount. We walked over to the cash register to pay and it was a few bucks more as an order of bacon had been added to it. I happened to notice and asked why the change. They didn't have an answer and suggested it was just a mistake. I assume just a computer glitch but strange. Other than the add on item the prices were very fair. they had some good sounding pancakes for kids (chocolate and Reeses). Also they do have gluten free pancakes. Location is a bit off the beat and path but is pleasant once inside. Just watch that bill! read more

Second time here for breakfast. We are always sat at a very quick time. The place itself is actually tinier than it looks. The menu is very wide and they have both breakfast and lunch portions. The pricing itself is not as expensive as most places in the area for brunch. The portion is a great size as well. My first experience was just as average as my second experience here. I ordered their breakfast burrito which is a good size for a burrito although it did not settle well in my tummy. It was definitely a good price and good at the time though. Their waffles are fairly good as well. Their hashbrowns are always overcooked for my liking but that's a minor scratch. Overall it's a good place if you are looking for a quick meal!! read more

My daughter asked if we were in a Church (the doors at the entrance are heavy and wooden) - imitation maple syrup I had a veggie omelette for $8.95. It had loads of fresh veggies-- fresh spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini, bell pepper... Loved the freshness! Needed Cholula sauce, but that's my preference. Came w/ 2 pancakes, and a side of homestyle fries. Thick, diced potatoes-- fried w/ salt and pepper. Simple, but delightful! That was probably our favorite item on the table. Since we came around 11:30 am, DD2 ordered the kids mac n cheese for under $5. Rare that a kid doesn't like mac n cheese, but she said it was too cheesy and goopy, and didn't touch it. Boo. It did look pretty soupy. Oh well, when kids meals are under $5, I won't complain. Came w/ a side of fruit or fries. Biscuits were a little dry and too sweet. Friendly wait staff, lots of seniors, cozy place. My favorite breakfast place for a 'gourmet' breakfast is Katrina's Cafe in Auburn, or Ophan's in Sac. This place is better and less expensive than the other breakfast places in this area though. This place is fucking awful. The meat they used in the Rueben I ordered was the most dry, microwaved, hard, horrible tasting meat I've had in a sandwich. Do NOT get the Rueben if you for some reason decide to pay this place for "food". Tip: How about you don't microwave meat or let your stringed pastrami sit out in the sun for a week before you slap it into a dry sandwich. First and last experience here. Met a friend here this morning that I haven't seen in twenty years... the staff was so nice and patient with us as we talked away for 2.5 hours! They consistently refilled our coffee and didn't act put out by us lingering. The breakfast food was delicious! Fun menu options which included cinnamon roll pancakes, Oreo pancakes, pumpkin spice pancakes, and chunky monkey pancakes (with bananas). Overall wait time for the food was long and food was sub-par. Hit here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. There was no wait for a table and I was greeting in a friendly manner by the host. Although the decor is a bit outdated, think early 80's at Grandma's--the food is first rate. I had strawberry waffles and some wheat toast. Everything came out cooked to perfection and tasted terrific. I was kicking myself for not listening to my Yelp Elite friends and come here sooner! I was staying across the street from The Window Box, for work. I love checking out local food places, instead of the chain restaurants when traveling. I am soon glad that I came to The Window Box. The first day.....yes, i went there more than once.....I had an omelet with the mini pancakes. OMG it was soon good, and bigger than I expected. I ended up having to take some of it back to my hotel for later. The next time i went, I had the breakfast sandwhich WITH bacon! Believe me, I was NOT disappointed at all. The staff is awesome! Very attentive and recommended a couple of places for us (my coworker and I) to check out while our week in town. McKinzie is AWESOME! We requested her every time we came here. Nice little breakfast place hidden in Rocklin off of Five Star Blvd. Came on a Sunday morning a little after 9 am and there was no wait, which is always a bonus. The food was better than expected, but more importantly the price was really fair. The restaurant is a little old school and looks like it was decorated by your grandma but it's clean and spacious and the service was good. I'd definitely check it out if you don't want to wait for a table at Four Sisters. read more
