We'd heard all the buzz about the scallion pancakes at Win Son Bakery, so we had to stop by. We came on a busy Saturday morning during peak brunch hours, and as expected, seating was tough to come by both inside and outside. Since it was a casual setting, after waiting about 20 minutes for our order, we ended up taking everything to a nearby park to enjoy. We ordered the Egg and Cheese Scallion Pancake, a Pork Fan Tuan, and a Matcha Latte with oat milk. The egg and cheese scallion pancake was a bit underwhelming. I was expecting it to be flakier and crispier, but it leaned more soft than crunchy. It came with a tangy dipping sauce, though I didn't feel the tang really complemented the egg and cheese as well compared to some other alternatives they could have tried. The filling itself could have used more balance, the cheese was concentrated at the beginning of the scallion pancake and wasn't evenly distributed, leaving the rest of the bite a little flat in flavor. The matcha latte was also not my favorite, it lacked the concentrated, earthy matcha flavor I'm used to, and came across a bit diluted. The Pork Fan Tuan, however, was the star of the show. This rice roll was filled with pork floss and had a crispy, crunchy middle (possibly their version of a chicharrón?). The saltiness of the pork floss paired beautifully with the sticky rice, making for a really satisfying and unique bite. I'd highly recommend anyone visiting Win Son Bakery to grab one of these. I've been hearing about Win Son and do think you should come test it out yourself before making any judgements about it. They have unique items you wouldn't get at other places (ex. Fan Tuan rice roll, five spice latte) and their seating system is quite efficient (you order and than join a queue for a seat which goes by pretty quickly). I think the hype of watching them online made me expect the food to be life changing and while it was good, I'm not sure how William I am to go out of my way for it. The BEC scallion pancake was fine, but I've had other scallion sandwiches I've enjoyed more. I think the sauce itself didn't compliment it as much as it could've. The toast was not memorable for me. I did really enjoy the fan tuan and would return for that. I didn't expect there to be a crunch from the pork floss but it really added a nice texture to it. The San Beiji chopped cheese had the right flavor notes from the 3 cup chicken, but the execution felt sloppy and fell apart quickly. There were lots of people seating inside and outside so I can tell it was one of the more popular brunch spots. The service was standard. Every bite of this was delicious, and you can choose between two different types of side salads. I think Win Son is a very solid 4 star bakery and cafe. It's a Taiwanese-American fusion spot with yummy scallion pancake sandwiches, and very good espresso based drinks. It feel very cool and bright inside, with lots of happy plants and good music playing (electric relaxation ). I got the egg and cheese scallion pancake, and a xiao guai guai (cortado). The pancake was pretty expensive, at $15, and not too big. However it tasted really good- not greasy as I feared but nice and chewy, with fluffy eggs and cheese inside the pocket. The hot sauce that comes with it is a game changer... it isn't too spicy, and gives the pancake a delicious burst of flavor. The xiao guai guai was very well made; smooth, creamy, and slightly bitter in the perfect way. The millet mochi donut (go) had a great texture with a slight chewiness and dusted with ginger, cinnamon and cardamom. It also paired nicely with the hot mango milk tea with a nice creamy foamy top. One thing that was shopping deelish was the scallion pancakes. They were cooked to crispy perfection and my wife said it reminded her of the kind she used to have in Hong Kong as a child. The chili crisp hot sauce was irresistible for dipping the pancakes into! The menu has so many unique dishes with some with an Asian twist and will definitely put this place into our rotation on future visits! I have eagerly awaited the opening of this new location in East Village and went during their first week. The space itself is very open and bright, making it feel very welcoming, though laptops are not allowed and there's no WiFi. For drinks, I tried both the Mango Jasmine Tea and the Alishan High Mtn, both of which I thought were relatively weak (even after seeping the Alishan for a while). For the food items, my favorites by far were the fantuan and the custard toast - I would recommend these to anyone trying this spot. Unfortunately those are the only two items i would recommend - the scallion pancake had the texture of a cracker than an actual scallion pancake and I didn't really care for their egg and bacon scallion pancake sandwich, which is supposedly their signature item. Service was exceptionally nice and helpful and I did enjoy the fantuan and custard toast which is why I rate this spot as a 4 star instead of lower. They are very organized in terms of seating so we were sat before we got our food which was nice. The food was pretty good, but both dishes we ordered were walking the line of being too salty. The scallion pancake for the BEC scallion pancake could have been more crispy. The imperial glaze chicken box was also very good and saucy, but the fries were the star of that dish. The sauce for both the fries and the scallion pancake was also very good. It was a tangy aioli. I had the 5 spice latte and didn't really like it. It wasn't very sweet and this spice is used primarily on meats so it reminded me of savory dishes. I'd come here again to try some of their pastries. I was so excited to see the bakery down the block from me and didn't know when it would open for dine in. I walked outside this morning and there was a line already at 8:45AM! They opened at 9AM and the line increased and died down towards 10AM. The menus don't have pricing at the moment which makes the $30 breakfast a surprise. I've never been to the Brooklyn locations so I got the BEC scallion pancake ($15), the pork fan tuan ($7) and a regular latte with oatmilk ($5). Definitely forego the regular latte, I'm not partial to black sesame or the specialty flavors but if I were I'd go for those. The BEC is a really decent portion - a bit oily for my tastes and it overwhelmed any of the flavors inside. The Chipotle Mayo (?) sauce it was served with helped a lot. I think I could really enjoy the pork fantuan - don't forget to peel off the plastic wrap! The rice is soft and the pork floss is quite good. It comes with a tasty chili oil! My only gripe is that there was an extremely hard piece of pork on one end that I couldn't chew through and had to shove the whole thing in my mouth to use my molars haha. There is a decent amount of seating, mostly geared towards party of 2s but you can push a table together. It's fast casual but it got a bit awkward bc they basically have you sit in the same order that you ordered in, which for the first day I understand they want to optimize serving as quickly and easily as possible. What I didn't like was that I had to sit next to a couple that had just very obviously came from a run and not to be rude, had an odor. There was other seats that opened up as the pace of customers eating outpaced the order being served, but it didn't feel like I could move. Hopefully another time I can sit where I want instead of all packed in like sardines. read more

Pretty delicious. I'm Taiwanese- it's a fusion cafe but the flavors are authentic. Got cold brew and a rice roll with tofu. The tofu reminded me of the braised tofu my mom used to make. Cold brew was good too. Came on a Friday afternoon- it was crowded but eventually found a table. Really nice clean cafe and roomy enough. read more

Love this bacon, egg and cheese scallion pancake! Definitely enough to split, the sauce is delicious too. Love all of their donuts! Line goes pretty quickly and we got a seat outside. Service is great & food comes fairly quickly. Super packed for Saturday brunch but still good vibes. read more

I stopped by Win Son Bakery today after my Pilates class and didn't realize what a treat I was in for. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese on a scallion pancake and it was incredible. It came with this really delicious dipping sauce--I honestly wish I could buy a whole tub of it. The staff was very kind and gave great recommendations based on things we said we usually enjoy. My friend ordered the Caesar salad and the fried chicken on top was perfectly flavored and unbelievably crispy. We also shared some pastries, and the chocolate chip toffee cookie was absolutely delicious. There was a line, but I think that's just a testament to how good the food is. Even though it looked long, it moved really quickly and we were able to find seating within about 10 minutes. Everything was clean and the space is decorated really cute. If you're going during the week, it might be nice to just grab a coffee when it's a little less crowded--but it's definitely worth the visit read more

The Taiwanese fan tuan was so yummy! taste exactly like Vietnamese xoi lap suong. it has pork floss, eggs, and I think chinese sausages rolled in sticky rice. Very yummy. their mochi donut and the red rice donut was also great but texture of these two was similar. I would just get one next time. I got the caramel jujube but didnt care much for it. The place was a short walk from now now noho hotel. I love this neighborhood, very close to good food. read more
