    Salt bread
    Matthew W.

Japanese-American salt bread. Came out fluffy, buttery, and piping hot. I've got a high bar for salt bread, especially having tried Korea's version of it'd and I've gotta say Justin's is pretty good but not the best I've ever had. 4/5 stars for taste. Make sure to get napkins since it's a bit oily. The matcha latte is mellow, not too strong or sweet. Everything cost $20 for a matcha latte and 3x saltbread. Much larger inside than expected; there's a gorgeous and hip seating interior with lots of seating. Bathrooms available downstairs and while there was a line, it went quickly due to multiple order kiosks. Very chill ambiance that makes for a nice, cheap date spot.

TL;DR: Lived up to the hype, but we didn't have to wait in line Stopped by here on the way to dinner (around 4:30PM) on a Friday. There was still a lot of people inside, and they have a good system in place. I know it is just salt bread, but this was an elite piece of bread and spreads. I personally don't like to stand in lines for too long for viral food, but I would wait at least 30 minutes for this. FOOD: ~signature salt coffee (5/5): so good. I got this iced, and it was slightly sleep with a nice contrast with the salty foam on top. Only thing is it was a little hard to stir, and I wish they had straws to better stir/drink. But once I got it stirred to the perfect amount, it was delicious. ~Salt bread (5/5): perfectly buttery and salty. It was nice and warm and just so pleasant. The spreads were also the perfect whipped texture and not too sweet. Would definitely recommend! But not sure we would wait a long time in line for it (personal preference).

amazing delicious bread!!!!!! the bread comes out super hot and buttery and is well worth the hype!! they don't reheat very well so eat it as soon as you get it. the inside is surprisingly spacious and the workers are very efficient. I also got a salt coffee, which was creamy and smooth but lowkey kinda heavy esp paired with the butter-heavy bread.

Would I wait in a long line for this like when they first opened? Heck no. But would I stop by for some yummy bread if I'm nearby and there's no line - for sure! The 3 pack of bread (croissant size) is 12$ and no longer includes a cream. I think the bread tastes way better with the cream so I do recommended adding it on. I didn't get any drinks but two friends both got the salted cream coffee and both loved it!

Loved this place. To start the bread is phenomenal! Served warm, perfectly salted, and so fluffy! The coffee and matcha were the perfect compliment! We got the matcha dipping cream and it was just perfect with the bread. I will be coming back here as soon as possible!

I don't love bread but wow, this place impressed me! Definitely a must try if you like bread/ croissant Line looks long but it goes by quick! I waited 30 mins on a Sunday afternoon It's as if a croissant and bread had a baby! It's best fresh because the texture is perfectly soft in the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. The salt on the bread is the perfect amount, not too salty. I enjoyed the bread on its own but it also pairs well with the creams. I bought all 3 and they're all pretty solid! If you had to choose one cream, maybe go with sweet cream but you can't go wrong with any of the creams (sweet cream, uji matcha and chocolate) Drinks are solid too! I think the matcha latte is better than the coffee latte. One of the top matcha places I've tried in a while

I finally got to try Justin's Salt Breadand oh my goodness it was delicious. The salt bread was super buttery (in a good way) with just the right amount of saltiness and crispiness. Got the Uji matcha dipping cream, which tasted amazing with the bread. I wanted to try their salted Uji matcha latte but they were sold out by 1pm :(. I'm not much of a coffee person, but I got their signature salt coffee to try and it actually tasted pretty good. There was a small line but it moved pretty fast and they had a nice interior and seating area with tables and tatami mats which was super cute. Will definitely come back for more!

Didn't think this was worth the hype bc like how good can a salt bread be....... but omg let me tell you when I say this is SPECTACULAR. I can not tell you how amazed and pleasantly impressed I was with both their salt breads and their matcha!!! Their salt bread came out pipping hot, so soft and buttery and with the perfect amount of salt. They are so so flavorful and so delicious even on their own -- you def don't need a dip. We got their matcha drink as well and it was SO GOOD. They add a hint of salty foam to their matcha and this makes it sooooo good and so unique!!! The mixture of the light salty foam and matcha are GOD TIER. Pro tip: you MUST dip their salt bread into the matcha!!! This was by far the best idea we've ever had. Don't get me wrong I can eat infinite sticks of their salt breads plain just by themselves and be so completely satisfied and utterly obsessed, but they also pair so perfectly with each other!!!! Dunk them or not -- you can't go wrong with either way! I'm still thinking of this bread to this day omg

oh my god .. we have a winner for best salt bread in nyc and his name is justin !!!!! the line goes by fast with their self service kiosk system. They're also pumping out piping hot fresh bread nonstop. I love the texture of the salt bread here -- crunchy bottom, fluffy center. If you order any of their speciality drinks, DIP THAT BREAD into the cream top and thank me later. just perfection in every bite. I love the seating area. They have tatami mats and regular chairs. Such a cozy space to catch up with friends or do some solo work. pro tip: buy some extra and freeze them at home (they reheat well)

I'm too old to care about TikTok and I think anyone that calls themselves an influencer should get a real job, so I had no idea what this place was about. All I know is that the last few weekends that I've walked by here, I've seen a line down the block. So to my surprise, there was no line today. I walked in and was the next in line. There's two self service ordering kiosks and then you wait for your food on the side. So this is where I'm going to say, yes there's hype behind the place, but the line is also a bit manufactured. A) people don't get to see the full menu until they're in front of the screens ordering. This creates additional wait time because people are naturally indecisive. B) The bread isn't slow. It's the drinks. They gave an assembly line for the matcha drinks but the barista is not in any hurry to finish your order. C) This leads to the third point where as I got to the ordering tablets, they shut down the second one and forced everyone to order from one. Because the barista could not keep up with the orders. I ordered the salt bread with the original sweet cream dip and the uji matcha dip. I also ordered their signature uji matcha drink. My bread order was ready in 5 minutes. My drink order took another 10-15 minutes. During this time the line started to build outside because there's only one ordering tablet now. I took my order to go but it looks like there was plenty of seating in the back. There's also free water on the side if you wanted it. The place was a bit warm but it has a bakery after all. So what's my verdict? The bread is actually delicious. I could easily polish off all three in one sitting. They're fluffy and the salt gives it a great crunch. The sweet cream makes it taste like a dessert and the matcha cream was also delicious. The matcha drink however was nothing special. It's a decent matcha but not worth the 15 minutes wait. The salted cream was just on the top so it's you're only going to get it on the first few sips. I don't know if I would wait an hour for this but if I do come back it'll just be for the bread. Do yourself a favor and skip the drink, it's not worth the self manufactured wait.

my first time having hot and fresh salt bread- I get the hype!! could easily inhale a few of these. they were so buttery and soft on the inside but had a great crunch and saltiness on the outside. you can get dips with it but it really doesn't need it. egg salad one was yummy too but I preferred it plain. would recommended skipping their matcha if you like a more grassy/bold flavor- it was too light in flavor for me but my bestie liked it. we waited like 10-15 min in line which wasn't bad for a weekend.

This was good! I'm glad I only ordered one and not a 3 pack. I might have eaten all 3! I get why people are lining up for salt bread. I'm inclined to compare it to a really good breadstick. I would've preferred more of a regular butter with it. I got the sweet cream and I wasn't loving it at all. I would've liked to try a coffee beverage but I wouldn't have slept that night if I did. This will be a reason to go back. You order at a kiosk when you enter and wait for your order. It's a very large space with plenty of room to sit in the back. Very chill space. They have a restroom for customers as well.

5.0 / 5.0 Shiopan (salt bread) originated in Japan and apparently became popular in Korea. The salt bread here was delicious, oozing with butter. It's also nice that they pack the freshly baked bread in a tote bag! It was a weekday afternoon and there were about three groups of people waiting in line, but the shop opens early as many people are ordering takeout! The staff were happy to guide you. Ordering is done by yourself using the touch panel. There is also a tatami-style eat-in area. And smells of freshly baked bread. $12 for three salt breads is a great deal. (Each is $4.50) It's so delicious I want to eat it again!!

Went to the Flatiron store both times and didn't have to wait long to order. The staff were great and packed all of the little cakes nicely so that they survived the trek back to our condo. It had old tasting banana paste in the middle assuming because it's real banana and not artificial, is tiny, and didn't taste good Yuzu--nice yuzu flavor and disappeared fast Cloud--forgot the actual name and apparently didn't take a picture, it had chocolate/hazelnut mousse with some sort of caramel and something crunchy, also delicious All of the petit gateaus were on the mild side which is a big plus for me. If only I could see how it is made rather than just wrapped and packaged for me, with me assuming they just took a pre-packaged sandwich and heated it up. I really hope they do not do that. The taste of it tells me they do not, but I have to surmise. I also got a hot chocolate, which is super rich. It is not super hot, but if you are not careful you could have an accident on the sidewalk because of the milk they use. Drink it slow and steady. Or pace yourself between sips. Choux pastry donuts full of rich flavor, without all the density of an actual donut. This one may be too rich. It is also quite expensive. Nearby Donut Pub does a better job with them. I had to be careful eating this. Being careful and knowing how much it cost to get a breakfast here are what keep it a three star review. However, their offerings will keep you out of the cold and give you strengths on days you need to be picked up.
