I came to the range for breakfast and I'm super sad to say that the food preparation is incredibly slow. The server was nice and attentive as can be but the food almost took an hour to be served. This may have been due to to-go orders or orders that'd be delivered to visitors at the ranch needing to be cooked and prepped as well. The amount of seating at the restaurant and the wait time for food just doesn't make much sense. They have to be severely understaffed in the kitchen. If I hadn't come with company we had met to eat here, I likely would've taken my business else where. :/ With that being said, the food was still really good. I had the breakfast sandwich with the side salad and have to say that the sandwich got a spicy kick to it. The salad ain't no bagged salad-- it's that good type with those types of seeds you don't really know what they are but they compliment the greens real well. Prime Rib was the special during our visit; I'd rank it as below average compared to many versions over the years. There was a lack of fat which is what makes this classic dish. And it's almost as if they extracted the natural saltiness. The portion was fair. On that note, remember this is a resort, so you will probably be dismayed if you factor-in price in your evaluation. That is, there is no value at Bresada Ranch, but that's expected. The Kale and hazelnut salad was very good, but lacked "pop" like almost every dish at the resort. They seem very hesitant to use any spice. Ask for extra lemon and be generous with it. I was excited to see padron peppers on the menu, but (again) they were incredibly bland. Moreover, there's no hint that they're roasted. The amount of sea salt was appropriate though. The hanger steak was a bit tough and the red onion marmalade too charred, but I still enjoyed this dish. It was the winner amongst our four entrees. The bucatinni pasta: meh. What saved the meal were probably the best Smores I've experienced. Simple right: just three ingredients over a fire. Here it's homemade graham crackers, an excellent non-processed square-shaped marshmellow, and above Hershey grade chocolate. Love the fire pit and the roasting sticks. If you're renting a cabin, I'd opt for delicious home cooked meals then head down to their restaurants for dessert. read more

We stayed at Brasada Ranch 2 summers in a row for a few days, and last year, we had amazing weather. This year was smoky, but now sadly, it is something that should be expected. We also dined at Range Restaurant 2 years in row. I must say how much things have changed for the better! Our first experience was not very good because I felt like the dishes were over salted and the flavors just weren't there. However, the service was good. This year, our dining experience was excellent. Everything was bright and well balanced with seasonal ingredients. Our eldest child is an adventurous eater, and tried carpaccio for the first time, he said it was so delicious that he questions why we should cook beef. The duck was deliciously paired with some roasted strawberries for a really well balanced plate. We also ordered a pork cutlet dish that was crispy and great for sharing as well as a steak, which was perfectly cooked. The two salads we ordered had melons and cherries and stone fruit, perfect notes of summer. We ended the meal with s'mores cooked in the fire pit. It was a wonderful meal, and the server later told us that they got a new chef at the beginning of this summer. This new chef is a definite keeper! read more

Range is a stunning spot, about 30 minutes drive outside of Bend, with one of the best views of the Three Sisters and a fantastic spot to catch a sunset. Very quiet and under utilized, Range seemed to be a place to take someone for a special occasion, like a birthday, anniversary, or to celebrate another gorgeous sunset in Bend. This is admittedly a very pricey restaurant, which is what probably keeps the crowds away. Adjusting the menu slightly would increase its popularity and the locals and their willingness to drive all this way for some darned tasty food and great sunsets. As it was, the place was mostly filled with guests at Brasada and a handful of special events being celebrated. Admittedly, there was a little too much Nashville music on the radio for our tastes, and that for me was the one mood killer. Through it may fit the setting, it would be nice to see them mix in a different genre for a more sophisticated feel, since Range is all about ambiance and setting a mood, and for some people C&W music doesn't inspire the romance. Range serves dinner, excellent wines by the glass, great bites, cocktails, desserts and boasts incredible views of the 3 Sisters. Even if you don't stay at Brasada Ranch, head over to Range for a sunset view and a round of their gourmet smores and drinks. Nom. We can highly recommend the burger (a perfect medium rare), the kale side (its like creamed kale, but doesn't utilize cream, just perfect braising technique) and the pork belly lettuce wraps (seriously good.) Even the dishes that fell short for us like the crab cakes (three very small portions) and the peach melba (one small broiled peach halved with vanilla ice cream in an awkward tiny serving bowl) were still very tasty. Give Range a try. Its a quiet, secret spot with good food and a great setting. read more

First of all I have to thank our neighbor for recommending this spot. It was a great experience overall. Ok, so the drive is a bit outside of Bend, but completely worth it. The views from the patio of the high desert are breath-taking, so book ahead and get a seat outside. The food was very good, we ordered the pork belly and the lamb and very pleased overall with the preparation and portions. We ended getting dessert, which again was very good. Our service was on point, Daniel from Nottingham, UK, was extremely friendly, and attentive, our water and wines glasses never went dry and we never ended up waiting on anything. For me it is the little things that make paying for fine dining worth it, otherwise I would go get pizza and save some money. I would definitely come back again, the whole experience was top-notched. We booked early and late in the season, so the place was very empty and about a week away from closing,but you could not tell from the food or service. So it is definitely worth a try. NOTE: So there are two restaurants in Brasada Ranch, one is the Range (Fining Dining) and the other is the Ranch House. The Range is only open for part of the year, where the Ranch House appears to be opened all of the time for the residents of the area. So be careful when you book, so you get the correct location. We've been at the ranch for a couple nights and the first night we were so tired of driving through the snow, we ordered dinner to-go and had a wonderfully comforting meal last night. Today we had a great fried chicken sandwich for lunch that we split with some very yummy margaritas by the outdoor firepit. But tonight, Valentine's Day, took the cake. We ordered a valentines dinner box to cook ourselves. It was an incredible abundance of thoughtful and delicious foods, particularly the appetizers and very detailed and doable instructions on how to prepare it all. We basically have lunch for days now!. Thank you so, so much for allowing us to experience your recipes first hand and just have a great boost. We took our time making each course and it was just a wonderful evening. And everyone we met on the staff this afternoon were awesome. Great, accessible people that made us feel like family. Cheers! Went for rehearsal dinner and also for breakfast the following day. The rehearsal dinner food was quite nice. Beautiful buffet served in matching cast iron skillets, and some very tasty dishes. For some reason, the rolls were hard, but the other food items were very good. For breakfast we had the chicken and waffles. While these were tasty as well, my chicken was a hair away from being undercooked. Nonetheless, I took a swig of my strong hot chocolate with schnapps and destroyed that meal. No GI problems later, but I certainly did inspect the chicken closely before eating it all. Staff was pleasant and easy to talk to. If they could perfect a nice chicken fried steak with a big ass biscuit, I would easily give 5 stars. Until then, I'm in the 3.5-4 category. read more

The Range is about 20ish minutes from Bend proper and I think that might deter locals from heading out there, but not us! We eat at the Range at least once a month during the open season (summer-fall). Pricey? Yes. But it's worth it. The ambience alone makes it one of our favorite places to take out of town guests. There's a huge gas firepit (read: no smoke) outside with large comfy relaxing chairs, and they have a basket of wool blankets you can use to cuddle up with. They'll bring you drinks and dessert to the fire after dinner. There's an expansive lawn on which they have bean bag toss games and a patio with a stage where they have live music, and the entire thing overlooks the Cascade mountain range, and the sunset (which admittedly is a little blinding right at sunset time). If the sunset over the mountains isn't picturesque enough, the ranch's resident horses are grazing far below, in a sea of grass with a little pond. The menu constantly changes, which I like since we're regular visitors, and they are always using ingredients that are local. They have innovative dishes, like this Frito Misto that was basically crispy tempura fried vegetables, but there were thinly sliced lemons, and fennel, and really unique things in the dish that you think shouldn't be fried (but now I know that everything should be fried!). The salads are varied and use lots of different flavors - middle eastern, pickled, sweet, etc. They do everything meat well - Central Oregon has lots of suppliers of beef, lamb, and pork - all heritage breeds and grass fed. My husband always gets a steak. I especially like the desserts - this one strawberry mousse with meringue and balsamic was memorable, and they have a smores kit with homemade graham crackers and housemade marshmellows that is fun for the novelty (but I wish they would sell a half size since I can usually only eat 1!). We've had lots of stuff on the menu and attended events like their Memorial Day family style dinner and their Labor Day buffet. I will say that the family style meal is better than the buffet, because it's always hard to keep a buffet fresh and well stocked/clean when the masses are serving themselves. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and they are always willing to let you try the wines and beers before committing to one, which is great for indecisive people like me! Our favorite waitress is Tori, who is never impatient with me as I ask her opinions on every dish. Side note - this is a resort with time share cabins and members who live in custom built homes. Therefore, in the peak season there are members only events and member sections of the restaurant that require more service. If you're not a relaxed person who is looking for a leisurely meal, you'll be disappointed at these times. But if you're not a chill person, Bend probably isn't the town for you! read more

Absolutely beautiful location with all of the ingredients for a memorable evening. While in town, we went to dinner at the Range, timing it so we'd be there for sunset. We sat outside on the patio with the few other guests who were there. The food was ok - not Michelin star worthy, but also not Denny's. The spring onion soup was delicious, but they added nuts and crunchy things that detracted from the creamy soup. The soft shell crab was ok, but if you're not going to use local ingredients, then it really has to be out of this world to be worth it. We asked for the ribeye mid-rare, but it came out definitely rare and cool, but I do love that the beef is local and it was clearly good quality. It was one of the leanest ribeyes I've ever had, which is a good thing in my opinion. The atmosphere was really nice and the view was breathtaking. Many of the staff were dressed like ranch hands in jeans and plaid shirts. The only downside was that one of the waiters (from Sacramento) was very boisterous. Now, I like a fun personality, but when there were only 6 people on the patio and we were all coupled up trying to enjoy a romantic sunset, his extremely loud talking really wasn't appreciated. He needed to take it down to half volume. Roasting the freshly made marshmallows at the fire pit is a must and the whole reason I was so excited to go. They give you blankets to use and have nice roasting sticks. It was lots of fun and such a great idea! I would love to go back and stay in a cabin and go horseback riding. This restaurant definitely has potential, but needs a chef who's a little more seasoned to execute a little better. read more

We went to the Mother's day brunch. Not much food. I paid 165.00 for me, my husband and nephew. The prime rib was greasy and totally rare, which my husband asked for well done and they replied there was none. He does nor eat rare- so- SOL. The omelet- wonderful!! But the cheeses plate nearly empty even when we went back. The desserts were frozen- the kind you can buy at Costco. I REALLY resent spending that kind of money- I am a school teacher so this was a real TREAT for our family. I thought we were going to have some really yummy, delicious food. Not the case at all. Not going back. You people should hire some professionals for the price. read more

Daniel an EXCEPTIONAL waiter! EXCELLENT!! First time staying here at the ranch. I had no clue we needed a reservation. We walked in about 5-5:30, for a couple of drinks and they did allow us to sit (grant it there were about 10 tables open). As time went on the host/ management staff was constantly looking for us to leave so they could have our table for reservation guests. After we'd had enough of them tell us and our waiter that they needed our table asap, constantly mad dogging us and not even suggesting we sit at the bar or outside (which had lots of room available) we left. Didn't even get a chance to experience the food...bummer! It's very unfortunate to have a terrible experience at such a beautiful place! read more

We had the fixed menu Christmas dinner at Range and left very disappointed. The food was fine, but the pacing and level if service was shockingly out if wack for how much money we were paying. We had an early reservation, were sat, had drinks ordered and made our selection from the fixed menu. After that, the only interactions we had with our server was her apologizing. The food took forever, the gaps between courses were too long, and eventually they had to offer to bring our dessert to our room because it was taking so long. For a special event like Christmas, you would think a place like this would be better prepared. Spending that kind of money on dining is a big deal for some people, and to have it go so poorly makes you feel awful as a patron who had much higher expectations. Made reservations at the Range for July 7 at 7 p.m. With great anticipation, we took our guests to the Range hoping for a memorable experience. First of all, we had requested a table outside but since they only had one umbrella for their patio that was already being used, the glare and heat moved us to the inside. We did notice that the Members' side of the patio had somehow collected all of the remaining umbrellas. We ordered our first round of drinks to calm down after the long drive. I ordered a Sazarac cocktail which the bartender didn't know how to make. Our dining room side was completely empty, and the waiters were paying all of their attention to the members' side. So our service was quite slow. Our salads were fine. One guest ordered the ribeye which came out tough. Two of us ordered scallops that were nothing to rave about. All in all, we expected more attention to detail. Sadly, we will not return. read more

A summary at first: Food good, service horrible. We had a reservation for 12 people (yeah, a large crowd). Without asking us, they tried to sit us outside next to a smokey fire, in the sun and breeze. My elderly parents cannot handle this. So, we asked to be seated inside. The restaurant was not full, so they were able to accommodate. Once inside, it took them quite awhile to take our order. We ordered appetizers, which never came. Drinks took a bit, and our dinners took 45+ minutes. And it wasn't even busy. When we asked what happened to the apps, they acted like they never had the order. It was quite obvious that preference was given to locals/regulars. Given that this is a resort, I would say this is a bad tactic. *Every* customer should be treated the same. We asked for some drinks to be put on a separate ticket. Again, they claimed we never made that request. Even though the service was awful, the food was good. If you make the mistake of staying at the Brasada resort, you might want to do take-out if you need food. Or try the more formal restaurant there. Oh yeah, the food service at the pool was only marginally better. read more

To be avoided at all costs. Had some horrible experiences at this place. First it is always booked out. Who these days can remember to make a booking 4 days in advance? Not I, while on vacation. Spent an hour eating dinner on the floor, dripping wet while the Manager and his team smugly chatted amongst themselves. Attending to no -one, as we were the only guests in the place. Imagine how angry you can get if you walk in at 4:45 on a Sunday night and are told the place is booked out and cannot accommodate you as you have no reservation? Not nearly as angry as after you have begged said smug Manager if you can eat on his floor near the fire. And then proceed to eat for an hour and 20 minutes while surveying a completely empty dining room. That makes you pretty angry. So, if you are 75 and like to make a reservation days in advance, and pay top dollar, this is the place for you. However, if you like to show up impromptu and have a meal, forget it. Chances are you will be turned away, or eat dinner on their carpet being annoyed as the "booked out" restaurant stays empty so they can accommodate the reservation that is showing up at the table 2 hours from now. One of the most annoying dining experiences, ever in my opinion. And the lack of customer service was astounding. read more

I grew up in Bend and have been our to Brasada probably at least 50 times, it's always been a favorite. I loved when it was the Blue Olive and then it got even better when it first became Range with chef Adrian Carpenter. I then left town for a few years, so when I went back last week, Range was my first choice restaurant to visit. All I can say is if you haven't been to Range in a year, Do Not Go Back! Terrible service, mediocre food, worst staff, we had to ask the bus boy twice to get our server Tori's attention, it was a Tuesday night and we were her only table! She spent the entire time chatting behind the bar and never even looked our way. Drinks took forever to get, food took forever to get, standards we sub par and the menu that used to be so unique and exciting that it was hard to pick what you wanted to try has become boring and unappealing. One of the most disappointing experiences of my life. I would still recommend going for the view and a cocktail, but the meal we had wasn't worth the drive. read more

I would never come here to eat even if it is the only restaurant around there. Me and my husband drove up there for our anniversary and the place is beautiful the sunset was breathtaking. The first few moments there were great until we went to look for our cabin their not marked clearly. We were in room B but the rooms weren't marked so we had to check every room with our key hoping we don't disturb anyone. The evening got better when we went out to eat that was an experience. When we walked in we walked over to the bar because it was unclear were to go or sit. It was after we waited 10 min that some guy walked up to us and asked what's going on here? Not hello how can I help you or anything in that sort. We told him we were here for dinner he said the wait is 40 min and than left. We had two other ppl walk up to us and finally take our drink order. Yea, we paid ALOT ALOT for our dinner and the customer service was HORRIBLE and the food wasn't that great. For the amount of money we are spending there they can't even train their staff or get them decent uniforms. Yea next if there will be a next time we will drive out and go to Diego's to eat. read more
