We waited and eventually went inside to check and then got seated at a nice table in the patio area. The weather was lovely for a spring afternoon in late April. My wife ordered the Blackened chicken Poboy and I selected the Gambling Pig sandwich. Both were accompanied by a generous helping of fries and a pickle spear. The gambling pig was tasty but the bun was a bit over toasted perhaps a bit on the stale side. The pork was flavorful however the sandwich was lacking adequate BBQ sauce. My husband and I have been coming to Wild River Grill for years, and I've always recommended it to anyone looking for a romantic date spot with great food. This place will always be a classic for me. The ambiance here is stunning. The main dining room is my favorite, with its dim lighting and beautiful décor, creating the perfect romantic setting. The patio is also lovely, especially on warm summer nights. Tonight, we stopped by without a reservation. It was extremely busy, but they were able to seat us in the River Room Bar. The vibe there is a bit different--not quite as romantic--but still beautiful, and I appreciate the extra space that allows more guests to enjoy the restaurant. The service her is always wonderful. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The food always comes out in a decent amount of time no matter how busy they are. We split two appetizers: the Ahi Poke and the Crab and Salmon Cakes. Both were absolutely delicious. The Ahi Poke was surprisingly generous with a good amount of fresh tuna. For our main course, we shared the Land and Sea Pasta Bowl, which was a flavor explosion. The blue cheese and balsamic glaze complemented the shrimp and steak perfectly. The $3 split charge was worth it--our plates came out beautifully presented, and we each got our own serving of garlic bread. There was plenty of food between the two of us, and it was definitely worth it. Wild River Grill may be a bit on the pricier side, but the quality of the food and portion sizes make it well worth it. You know those stereotypical millennial man bun burger restaurants with the string lights and truffle fries? This restaurant quite literally checks ALL the boxes for the stereotypes, especially the prices. When I say all, I literally mean ALL. This is the most "stomp clap hey" and "just 2 guys with a crazy idea" restaurant ever. The food is good, but the fries are disappointing unless you order the truffle fries (of course they have truffle fries). The experience overall is good. I like the aesthetic, and the service was good. However, you'll be walking out with an empty wallet, so I wish you good luck. You're paying double the price for food that, in my opinion, tastes worse than other chains and local restaurants. Only go here for the cool indoor aesthetic, the river, or the bar. Don't coke here for the food. PS: The French onion soup is 40% cheese, yet it's $13 (which is more expensive than a bowl from Chipotle with steak). WRG is an institution! And with great reason! This is a incredibly well oiled machine of a restaurant. They're used to every single scenario you can think of from solo at the bar to tables of 2, theatre rushes and special event slams, packed patios, and even gigantic group affairs hosted in the adjacent river room and their private dining room. This team can handle it all. We came in the other night before seeing a show at the Pioneer Center. We had made a reservation for 530 and arrived a bit afterwards to find a weight for the table which is totally reasonable. The restaurant was busy and the weight was longer than expected, but the host and manager and service team and Kitchen all made sure that we could get our food order in and out to the table in the quickest manner possible so we could still make the show. I ordered the muscles from the appetizer section of the menu and I've gotta say this was a healthy heaping portion of perfectly steamed shellfish with a bit of spicy chorizo in a rich broth perfect for dunking the baguettes. It made for a great meal one that filled me up, but didn't leave me feeling too full so I could still watch the show. I have always loved the food at the Wild River and I've always had great experiences with the service but this last weekend the service was extremely slow. I had planned a reservation for a celebration with 20 guests well in advance working with Alex on the menu and details. Alex was exceptional at providing all the information, support and communication. Day of the luncheon we are seated and initially ordered drinks.. I was hosting only beer and wine for my guests. After waiting 20 minutes, I went to go check with the waiter, who was also doing everything he could to attend to our table and met with the general manager, who proceeded to be very dismissive and rude to me. He asked me how long I've been waiting and when I told him 20 minutes, his response was "It looks like it's one minute per drink, and that seems reasonable!" All I have to say is if it takes you one whole minute to pop a cap off a beer bottle or pour a glass of wine you have bigger issues!! Our server even asked if he could break out checks out for our large group of 10 after the fact , and he did this with ease. Our group had a variety of salads , appetizers and main dishes and I don't believe there was but one take home box in the group. I had the scallops appetizer with mushrooms , bacon , carmelized onions on polenta plus a beet chip salad with a wonderful champagne vinaigrette that was large enough to share with a friend next to me. It was melt in your mouth goodness that was just the right amount. I paired this with a duckhorn Pinot noir but I have to say they had an extensive drink and wine list plus some wonderful specials. This is an upper scale restaurant and meals can run you on the higher end per person, as you can expect from a restaurant of this quality, but you don't get the formal ness that comes with some of the higher end steakhouses in Reno. I would love to try their happy hour sometime. When you're in downtown Reno, this is the place to be especially in the summer months where you can sit out on their wonderful patio and listen to the river right on the river path. We made reservations and it was a busy night even in the winter months so id recommended that. Been here twice. The first time was for dinner and it was top-notch. Got the wild mushroom ravioli and it was seriously one of the best in town. We also really enjoyed the caprese bruschetta and the desserts. The second time was for Easter Brunch and the experience was regrettable. The fixed-price menu they posted online looked really good, but the execution left something to be desired. This included: -yogurt parfait and bite-size pastries starter: both looked like they came from the cold case at a mid-grade grocery store. "Bite-size" meant a whole danish cut into 4 pieces with one piece per person. -bagel 2 ways (avocado and lox): the amount of toppings on each bagel were laughable - like they only cut a quarter of an avocado and smeared it on. The lox was somewhat better but the caper/salmon ratio was off. You'd get more from an Einstein's bagel at a fraction of the price. -raspberry sorbet: this was so sweet that I had to abandon it midway. Overall, I'd suggest skipping any kind of special occasion brunch and sticking with the main menu. read more

We went to Wild River for NYE and it was AMAZING. The ambiance was so perfect for a classy but relaxing dinner to ring in the new year. The staff were incredible: attentive but not distracting or overbearing and very knowledgeable when asked for wine suggestions. My only personal complaint is that dessert wasn't my favorite but that was solely because of my preferences and had nothing to do with the items themselves. We started off in the bar area while waiting for our table, catching a bit of the Duke vs. Houston final on the TVs. The dining area has white tablecloths, which gives it a nice touch of class, but it's not overly formal--just a comfortable, relaxed space that still feels special. There's also outdoor seating available, which looked like a great option, especially on a pleasant evening. The menu had a wide range of options. We all took our server's recommendation and went with the pork chop for our main, and we shared an order of mussels to start. The mussels were excellent--served in a rich, beer-based broth with chorizo and tomato. The sauce was packed with flavor, and dipping the bread in it was addictive. The pork chop was a standout. Brined and perfectly cooked, it was juicy and full of flavor, with a nice sear on the outside. It was definitely bigger than the 14 oz listed, so come hungry. I paired it with a glass of Chianti, and it hit the spot. Service was friendly and attentive, and everything came out in good time. We made a reservation online, which was simple and smooth. Pricing was very reasonable for the quality and portions. Overall, Wild River Grille delivered exactly what we were hoping for: great food, a relaxing setting, and a smooth dining experience. Absolutely loved this restaurant. We sat at the bar as there were no available reservations when we called due to a wedding event taking up what I guess is the main dining room. Thanks to the person we spoke to for telling us that bar seating was available without a reservation. This was our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint! First off - the bartender was amazing. Very friendly and attentive, we really enjoyed the atmosphere she created and the small talk we engaged in with her. We had the scallops for an appetizer and they were cooked to perfection. For dinner we had the Plum Chipotle Salmon and the grilled Elk Medallions with Risotto Cake. The Elk was cooked perfectly and I just have to say the the Risotto Cake it came with was an amazingly delicious surprise. I cant say I've ever had anything quite like it and would order it over and over again. The Salmon with cous-cous was equally delicious and also cooked to perfection. For our anniversary dessert we had the bread pudding and it was 100% the best bread pudding I've ever had. If you haven't noticed, we really enjoyed the food The overall vibe in the restaurant was warm and welcoming. Its right on the river and there is outdoor seating with nice views although on our night it was very windy and rather cold so we were grateful for the cozy seats at the bar. A very popular restaurant on the Riverwalk located at the corner of S Virginia and the Truckee River. Our reservation was in the late afternoon and we opted for outside dining. They sell by the glass a wonderful, full-bodied 2021 Cabernet Franc from AV Vineyards in Alexander Valley, CA. This is one of my favorite red wines and this is the only restaurant that I know that offers it by the glass. A bit pricey ($21.00) but I treat myself to a couple of glasses to round out a highly anticipated culinary experience. This time I ordered the Land n Sea plate which is a one hefty, extremely rich dinner. It consists of sautéed filet tips, shrimp, linguini, spinach, balsamic vinegar, sun-dried tomato, parmesan cheese, bleu cheese alfredo, and 2 pieces of garlic bread. This was more than a meal. It was loaded with beef tips and at least 6 or more medium sized shrimp. The bleu cheese Alfredo sauce is thick, flavorful, garlicky and is the ingredient that binds this meal into a delectable, very flavorful marriage of all the ingredients of this savory meal. It was a very generous serving, frankly enough for two persons. The Wild River Grille has great menu choices, ie, seafood, beef, pork, elk, some vegan and vegetarian options, a small plate menu, scrumptious salads and desserts. It has a very well rounded wine list and a variety of adult beverages available. One of my top 10 go to places for lunch dinner, or drinks.
