We have been in a few times with mixed results. I have had great stromboli here in the past, but recent visits have been less impressive. My latest trip was right after my wife went for a murder mystery dinner, which went pretty poorly. She had organized the event for a group, so she felt terrible when things fell short. They served pizza that night, and a few people commented that it tasted like Chuck E. Cheese pizza. That is definitely not what you want to hear when you host a group for a special night out. Even after that experience, my wife and I decided to head back and try their pasta menu. The place itself is cute and well decorated with a strong Brooklyn Italian theme. It really feels like an Italian grandma's kitchen. The room was hot, though. The cooling system just cannot keep up with Colorado summer heat, and the flies were wild during our visit. I ordered the Pasta Arrabbiata and added breaded chicken, while my wife chose the Chicken Marsala. To drink, she asked for a glass of The Federalist 1776 Cabernet Sauvignon, and I ordered a draft Vintage IPA from Collision Brewing Company. I noticed on their Facebook page that they were highlighting a smoked Old Fashioned seasonal cocktail, but we stuck to our usual choices. When the drinks arrived, I knew right away there was an issue with my draft beer because it had zero head on the pour. One sip confirmed that the draft lines had not been cleaned in a long time. My wife was equally disappointed with her Cabernet. It is not a bottle I was familiar with, but the quality was just not there for an Italian spot. The food was another miss for the table. Visually, my wife's Chicken Marsala looked bad from the start. The sauce had completely broken, leaving behind a greasy bowl of oily noodles and tough, overcooked chicken. My Pasta Arrabbiata tasted pretty good as far as the base flavors went, but it was way too spicy. I know how that sounds coming from someone who ordered a spicy pasta dish. Truth be told, I am the guy who always asks for extra hot green chili and eats roasted jalapeños with steak. I love heat, but this dish was over the top. It was 5-alarm hot rather than a balanced kick, and it would completely ruin the meal for an average diner. On top of that, my breaded chicken was overcooked and dry. I am sure we will give them another try eventually, but I am not rushing back anytime soon. I really want to love this spot, but it feels a bit tired right now. The decor is not your normal restaurant; it is fun and interesting. The staff is kind and attentive. I had a lemon drop martini to start, and it was delicious. We had the Italian Chips and Queso to start. I really liked the first bite, but it just wasn't for me. I had the chicken Parmesan as a main course, and it was delicious. It was way too much food, and it was great the next day. For dessert, we ordered cannolis. They were so good! The food and drink at Wholly Stromboli is always fabulous. Our recent visit was to attend the Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner at the Speakeasy and boy, what a wicked good time we had! A majority of the audience played a part into the "whodunnit" event that was a little chaotic at times. The quirky plot and high energy cast (duo) kept everyone engaged and entertained. There were quite a few random moments and some off the wall characters (a world champion beaver wrestler?) but it truly made for a fun and memorable night. When we asked what they offered he pointed to drink menu on the table and advised for us to look at the menu and walked away. Not the best start to a new location. We decided to order 2 dishes and share. We ordered the Philly Cheesesteak with a side of fries and a 10' pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and pineapple. We were going to order a 20' pizza however, the waiter advised it was quite large and since we were sharing a 10' would be best. We did appreciate his advice since the pizza was ok. We did carry out and had a hulapno stromboli, it was good, the jalapeno seems to overwhelm the rest of the flavors though. We also got a side Cesar salad, wonderful dressing but the salad at almost $8 is a bit overpriced, not even any parmesan on top. We also ordered 2 personal pizzas where the crust was paper thin and the toppings were sparse. The prices are a little steep for what you get. With that being said we always like supporting a local business..However when we got our bill and saw a $5.00 charge for 2 small sides of ranch, I about fell over! How ridiculous!! I can't support a local business when they are price gouging customers. When you spend $21 on a personal pizza and still leave hungry..you could at-least include one side of ranch for free. It's a cute idea for a restaurant. The food was fine. We ordered the Boli bites, Big Bambino pizza, side Caesar's, and kids cheese pizzas. I would say the food is appropriately priced. The kids menu wax strings are a nice touch and kept our kids entertained. The restaurant could improve with a cleaner facility. Dirty floors, seats, libations tablet... The newspaper style menus are cute but they are pretty dirty since they are recycled and not tossed after use... my husband ordered a beer he didn't like and the waitress said I can take it back but still have to charge you, which felt weird as a former server myself but I understand. I really really wanted to like this place but unfortunately we had a very bad experience. To start, the waitress we had was very rude and seemed to be bothered to be working. We ordered the garlic knots because I thought they'd be delicious since they make them in house "fresh". The knots were not garlicking. They were bland, some were overcooked and some were undercooked. When the food arrived the waitress knocked over some signage that was in the table and just left it like that. The food was either too bland or too salty. They chicken they use tasted like it was burned and had that refrigerator taste. To top it off I noticed a lot of the workers were just gathered chatting instead of helping the customers. I wish I could've been here when the service and food were good. We originally went with friends at their recommendation, and ended up sitting in the speakeasy downstairs and had a magnificent time. The restaurant is currently undergoing some remodeling, but that did not stop anybody from dining in the main upstairs, and the bar has always been packed when we have gone on repeat visits. We generally will eat downstairs where it is a little more quieter and only adults are allowed downstairs and NOT noisy, as some other reviews have mentioned. They have a great bar selection and the food is fresh, homemade and remarkable. This is a quiet gem for Fort Lupton. I highly recommend getting the Boli bites for an appetizer or even a meal with a side salad. The Original Stromboli is stuffed with goodness and if you're hungry get the 30". Prices are very reasonable for the food that you do get and it is homemade so I don't have a problem paying a little bit extra for truly homemade hot meals, as well as supporting our local small businesses. For me, I would much rather spend my time at this restaurant, then at a large chain restaurant. read more

The Stromboli was delicious. My husband and I shared their 10". It is big enough for 1 person but we were not that hungry so the 10" was a good size. The Stromboli was and a nice crust but not dry the inside was perfectly cooked. Plus for 1st timers they give you free garlic knots. Those knots were soft, buttery and garlicky (which we LOVED). In shock, mood ruined, Currently here now during the dueling pianos, people at the table were clapping, the table moves with vibrations from clapping. My brand new drink spills over and onto my friend and the floor. I ask for a replacement and the waitress goes to the manager, comes back and tells me I'll have to pay for a new drink even though it was realistically due to the table stability and environment. So I went to the owner and they said they would take care of it. The manager then came over and interrogated me on what happened and then asked if I was driving, I replied later (I've had a single shot drink by this time). He then came back and gave me the replacement and told me to be safe tonight!! Wow, very embarrassing, as if I'm drinking fast and just trying to get a free drink or that I'm drunk and spilling drinks. I always come with 6+ people and all the special events in the speak easy. It's a fun place and it's quite busy. The food is good. Just don't dare ask for mushrooms on your fettuccine. It's like it is a cardinal sin. If you do that Anthony, The manager, will tell you NO, but if you come when he's not here all the other cooks will do it for you. I asked him if the owner Melissa was going to give him a spanking if he allowed mushrooms to be added to the fettuccine and he said no. Not sure what the problem is there. I've been coming here for about eight years and staff is absolutely amazing. If you get a chance to go to the bar try the old fashion it's really good.
