This food is like upgraded White Castle, with a more expansive menu. Not that expansive. In fact, I should have just said bigger. I got a pretty flavorful gyro from here on my visit that could rival some of my favorite NYC spots, and the burgers looked greasy and wonderful, perfect Saturday night tummy coating food. The pork roll egg and cheese comes with 1 egg 3 slices of Taylor ham and one slice of yellow American cheese smushed on a roll it was fine and for $3.80 I could live with it. A couple of Greek guys behind the counter bang out all the food. There's a pretty comprehensive menu; It's not just burgers and fries. You can get anything from pancakes to a gyro, even a salad. They are known for their burgers, though. Ordered as a single, a double, or a quarter-pound patty, the burgers are always made from fresh ground beef. Chopped onions are pressed down into the top of the patty while cooking, and then it's flipped, so they sear right into the meat. Unless a bun is requested, the burger is served on a soft kaiser roil. Flavored by caramelized onions and the well-seasoned griddle, the burger is juicy, and ever-so-slightly pink in the middle. I stuffed myself with two cheeseburgers, a generous order of gravy fries, and a medium soft drink, and my bill came to $10. Though I've lived just a short drive away from this White Rose for quite some time, I only recently checked it out. Truth be told, I'm a big fan of the Highland Park White Rose, and I've always wanted to check out the few others, though I knew that they're all operated independently of each other. Thus, I was afraid that the Roselle branch would be a letdown. I had nothing to fear. While the vibe is different (I actually had to WAIT for my burger instead of it just magically appearing a second after I ordered it, as it does in Highland Park), I was really satisfied. To ensure a fair comparison, I got the same thing I always get in HP -- California cheeseburger and fries. The burger, complete with onions, lettuce and tomato, was juicy and messy, with the bun attempting to soak up the drippings -- perfect. As for the crinkle cut fries, the counter woman asked if I wanted salt, pepper, ketchup. I forgot to tell her to hold the pepper, but it was a nice touch. By the time I got home with the meal, the fries had kind of glopped together but were fantastic nonetheless. As others have posted, the System is housed in an old-time diner, with a classic black menu board with white letters, augmented by hand lettered additions posted up. They have a good variety of diner-style breakfast and lunch options and even have a specials board that shows things like crab cake dinners. I was tickled to see that among the burger add ons (extra pickles, add x cents, etc.) it said "Add California: 75 cents." Now that I've tried the Roselle System, I'll definitely be back. While it's not quite Highland Park, it's a lot closer and just as satisfying in its own way. Check it out, and don't forget to Add California. read more

Cool "old diner" atmosphere, friendly people, patrons seem like the type who have been coming here for years & know the staff by name. Big menu with the usual diner options. We started off with a strawberry milkshake and jalapeño poppers as appetizer. The milkshake was really good, nice & thick. The jalapeño poppers were good but nothing out of the ordinary. My boyfriend had a chicken gyro and fries; the gyro was very good & fries were alright. I asked for a bacon cheeseburger w/no tomatoes. The burger came with tomatoes. The patty was thin and only browned on one side, seemed like it wasn't made right because it kept falling apart into pieces. I had to keep taking pieces of bacon out of my mouth with every other bite because the bacon wasn't crispy, it was soft and the fat was chewy... and if you have ever tried to chew on a soft piece of bacon fat, you'll know it's damn near impossible to break it up as it's like gum. It was okay but not somewhere I can see myself going back to. Perhaps you should give the Taylor ham sandwiches a try, seems to be good from the other reviews. YUM! Last time we got to order here was New Year's Day. Today we are celebrating our 16th Wedding Anniversary with our kids. This is great comfort food and movie food! The double double with cheese is so good and a lot of food for me; I can never finish it at one sitting and I eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The cheese and gravy fries are great (we ask for them well done). My daughter likes her grilled cheese with bacon. My hubby and son eat the double double with cheese no problem! The beef is great in size, however combined with the onions, pickles, and cheese, it is just great in taste. The fries are crinkle cut and enough to feed two. I've also tried the small burger. I preferably do not enjoy them, too much bun compared to the meat received. After checking the reviews on this place, I decided to order a cheeseburger and fries. I must say that it wasn't delightful at all. There were two cooks, older white male and young hispanic male. They both wore NO GLOVES, strike #1. The young hispanic male had just walked out of the restroom and I was praying that he had washed his hands because they looked dry as a desert. Anyway, I said my prayer over my food and the burger was quite bland. No flavor to the meat and the fries were the best amongst the two. They should wear gloves for one and for two, they(women & men) should have hair nets as well. Dirty and unsanitary! I used to eat here years ago when Claud was the guy on deck all the time and the little short fat guy. Has always been a hole in the wall but great to grab some late night greasy food after a night out drinking. It was sure to satisfy the craving back then. Stopped in recently a few times and without failure, each time I found hair in my food. Was absolutely disgusting! HAIR! Don't know where it came from and who's it was, but each time. It's like it was an added ingredient! When it was old school, it was a great spot. Nowadays after the place was bought by the Greek dude George, somewhere around 5 years ago, it's gone downhill, JUST LIKE TEXAS WEINER ON ROUTE 22! The Greeks came in and ruined that spot too. Burger Express in Carteret, the classic now gone White Diamond in Linden, The horribly rude and bland White Diamond in Clark and the little gem in Roselle- White Rose System. It's what classic burger place should be. Meaty big burgers, soft fresh rolls, fries with anything you want, chili, cheese, gravy, or go disco. The staff were nothing but polite and the guy behind the griddle immediately developed a repore with me after me second time in the place. Now after years of going there he's always fast for a greeting, conversation and great greasy spoon burgers. This is the freshest and cleanest of all those other burger places. The highlight of the evening tho was a little snookie looking girl that got into a lil scuffle with a guy who was there with another girl (prolly caught him cheating) they took it outside just as phones came out with chants of "worldstar!!!!!" The first time I ordered I got the italian cheese steak. I called ahead and picked up. I was so disappointed when I got home and opened what I had just purchased!! Although it does have a nice divey feel where the lady at the counter will know your name if you come often enough, the burger was pretty bland and the buns were wayyy too big. The crinkle cut fries were delicious but not so different from the Ore Ida ones you can get at your grocery store.
