Stopped by the Rahway Stewarts for lunch. Used to visit here with my parents many years ago. The place hasn't changed and that's a good thing! Overall its ok...what turned me off today was, I had 2 hot dogs and thought they tasted funny. Asked the waiter are they beef and she said "no beef and pork!" Driving through the area looking for something for lunch and I see one of my all time faves Stewart's so of course we must pull up. We decided to dine in for counter service and we had the friendliest server Robin greet us. We quickly decided what we wanted from their vast menu... I went with a Chili dog, Corn nuggets, and a root beer and Hubby had a Bacon Cheeseburger, Sweet Potato Fries, and a Root Beer Float. Robin quickly delivered our drinks and my hubby was In love with his Root Beer Float, he said it was delicious and insisted I try it and he was right. My Root Beer tasted so refreshing too... a nice change from my usual Diet Coke. Shortly after our food was delivered. My Hot Dog was so good! The perfect snap and the chili sauce rich and savory. Now corn nuggets are one of my favorites and I rarely find them so this was a pleasant surprise. They were cooked to a perfect golden brown and so tasty. My husband enjoyed his bacon cheese burger and sweet potato fries as they were gone in a flash. We both commented now that we found this spot we're definitely coming back. The building itself is like a throwback in time, very nostalgic. With the option of counter seating or car side delivery of your order. The new owners seem intent on ruining a great business. As a long time customer of over 20 years, I've never seen where a new owner is making unnecessary changes or is not running the place properly. We come at least once a week and something is either not available, has been changed or removed from the menu. Popular items like the ribeye sandwich, Italian hot dogs and fish and chips were removed. This Saturday there was no diet soda available. They are also putting burgers and hot dogs on potato rolls, which are horrible. Please restore the old menu. read more

Are you looking for an awesome chicken sandwich or a Philly Swiss cheese steak to consume? This is the place to try out on a nice sunny day. You can place your order by walking into the bar or someone will come to your car to take your order. Did not want my car to smell like food, so we ate at the bar. I noticed that when the food is brought to the car, the tray hangs off the car window, which is pretty cool. Nick and I ordered the chicken sandwich, Philly Swiss sandwich, twister fries, and sweet corn bites. Everything was super tasty. The cost of everything was not bad at all. As we were leaving, I noticed that there were tables set up in the back area to dine. Overall, I would recommend trying this place out when the weather is super sunny. It's a cute place to stop by for hot dogs.. burgers and fries. They bring everything to the car but you have the option to go inside as well. They have a great variety of milkshakes so try one if you can. My hot dog was good. Not a place I would run to butt if I pass it I might stop in. read more

I have a habit of ordering the menu when I don't know what I want to eat, and they have a great selection for everyone's likes! The hot dog was not my favorite but the Mac and cheese bites were to die for. Server was awesome she had a full counter and was very attentive - making sure to bring us everything we could possibly need. Maybe, I'm way past my Arthur Fonzarelli suburbo hoodlum phase where the local car hop holds any allure whatsoever. Or maybe I'm just short-sheeting Stewart's because Sonic and their ludicrous obesity bomb dessert shakes, greasy kid stuff hamburgers and overall lethargy on skates has basically ruined the nostalgia trip for me. Stewart's actually is pretty damn good - not wake up the family, we're going to Stewart's good - but their cheeseburgers and fries definitely have taste and their root beer... how do I say this... is just yummy. While my Volkswagen won't replace a '55 Chevy Nomad for cool daddy-o street-cred (what vehicle possibly could) at least I'm not driving a Minivan with fake wood paneling and a Leo Sayer mix tape pumping through two very blown speakers as The Fonz would never forgive such a dad-bod atrocity. Stewart's is more than decent so take your minivan out for a four star spin. read more

The ribeye sandwich, always my favorite, has been taken off the menu, the Italian hot dog, my second go to, has been taken off the menu, so I ordered a Stewart's Special and a large diet root beer, and low and behold, they are out of fountain diet root beer and my burger is now served on a potato roll. I was born in Rahway and have been returning to Stewart's for all of my life, almost 60 years. Rahway has changed a LOT, but it's comforting to know that Stewart's is still there and just as good. The hot dog with kraut, crinkle-cut fries, and rootbeer are all just as I remember. The car hops still hang the tray on your car window. I miss the glass mugs of days long gone by, but I guess going to paper cups was inevitable. This place was great before it got sold now it's just a circus . Things on the menu are sold out , they have two new employees that have no training so service isn't the same . The place is small, old school diner style. I ordered my food to go and the server was very nice. I was confused in what I wanted and switched and she was ok with it. I ordered the jumbo beef chili dog and buffalo wings. When I got home I opened the bag and it looked great. I ate the wings but the seasoning was salty and I didn't like the taste. The Frank was delicious and so were the burgers. Everything tasted super fresh and right off the grill. Also had the fried mushrooms which were so good that I'll definitely have to be back just for those. We also had a side of Cajun fries which was a great call. And lastly an orange cream float. Perfect dessert after a delicious meal. They offer window trays if you want to stay in your car for your meal or you can sit on a stool at their bar if you're like me and are likely to spill your entire meal in the car. read more

What a fun joint! I drive by this place all the time and see people getting car hop service or sitting at the picnic tables eating. It always seems like such a cute and perfect little spot to go to. I finally got to check it out this weekend. The weather was perfect so we took one of the picnic tables out by the side. I was surprised that these tables got waiter service as well. I thought we would have to order at the front and bring it outside ourselves but we had a waitress that served us. The menu is quite extensive for a little spot like this. I was drawn to the French dip burger and my husband ordered the Gary Burger. We split an order fries and of course had to get some Stewart's soda. I went for my all-time favorite, cream soda and my husband got the root beer. The drinks were amazing!!!! The freshest and crispest Stewart's I've ever had! I literally contemplated going and getting just a soda the next day, it was so good. It's dangerous but they also do free refills. I resisted but now I totally regret it. I really was shocked at how great it tasted on tap. Oh, the burgers were really great too!! I'm so hung up on the tap soda! They were perfect size where you finish the whole thing but aren't over stuffed. It was absolutely perfect size to get a burger and split a side with soda. Really cheap food here too! Stopped by for an impromptu snack while in the area for 9 year old's bday. Wanted the kids to have a drive-in experience. The children were amazed at the warm welcome we received upon driving in. They don't let you pay over the wrong and since Covid the service just sucks. The best drive in I've ever experienced. All the food is not only made to order, but the has no grease whatsoever that plagues every single fast food restaurant. The real standouts are the chicken fingers (I think the best I've had in a decade), the fries and the onion rings. Of course the root beer is great too. The servers are very pleasant and fast. Overall a really amazing experience. So good I've driven an hour to go there twice in the past two weeks. My new favorite lunch spot. read more

Stewart's is one of those chains that, while theoretically a chain, has become so dispersed that it no longer feels like one. I've been familiar with their brand of sodas for many years and, while I had driven by Stewart's drive-ins several times in the past, I hadn't actually eaten at one. Right before a flight out of Newark Airport, I stopped by this Stewart's for a quick dinner. My order was taken quickly and I soon heard (and smelled) my food being cooked in the back. A few minutes later, my food came out and I was on my way. The double hamburger I ordered was quite tasty, juicy and appearing quite fresh. Definitely a step above your typical fast food burger at a similar price. The fries were standard, but adequate, and the root beer tasted just like those glass bottles of Stewart's root beer you can buy at the supermarket. Definitely worth a return visit to try some of their other items the next time I'm in the area and not in as much of a rush. read more

I've never really been to a drive-in, but we were on the way home from the zoo with a cranky baby in the back so pulling over to quiet her down and have a meal was ideal. This place had been on my radar and when I suggested it my wife was on board. The first thing I was impressed with was the speed of the food. We did a burger, hot dog, fries and onion rings and it was right out, hot and ready. Now that said, I wasn't expecting much from the burger, but for a quick griller this was actually pretty tasty. I did it "stewarts way," which I had no idea what that meant, but I got a double patty with cheese. Fries and onion rings were hot and crispy and wife said the hot dog was good. They even asked her if she wanted anything on it and she got her raw onion. The service was quick, and we paid no problem. Really my only -1 star is that the ketchup tasted WEIRD. I was not a fan at all, and I love ketchup. Other than that, no complaints from me here. read more
