I didn't even realize that I've never done a review of this place. I have been coming to White Diamond since 2006, so I have a time tested history with this place. It's a small old school diner venue, with a kinda awkward parking lot. It's sits on the corner of a major intersection. This is truly your old school American diner experience. Friendly & personal service, they actually will talk & joke with you here. Cash only, but there is an ATM on site. No frills, no fuss, just great food. If you're looking for "healthy," "organic," "vegan," or any of these other "new age standards," then this ain't the place for you. Like I said, it's old school & I love them for it. Had a great experience when I came here for lunch with my husband. The two staff members we came across were friendly and helpful. This place truly has such a nostalgic kinda' blast from the past kinda' feel to it. From the exterior of the building to its interior decor, this 1945 establishment is clean and updated but has kept its old-time feel. The owners are the cooks and are super friendly and funny from the door... they seem to treat everyone very personably and comically. Now here's the sad and hard part... and why we will never come back. The food was just okay tasting but the service from kitchen to table left a lot to be desired. The food was plated on tiny paper plates and the server was literally gripping our sandwiches with his bare fingers in the bread. Fries were served on large plates with his gingers literally in the fries. The bread top fell off two sandwiches on the table and he picked them up and placed right back on top of our sandwiches. It was gross and he didn't even know it and didn't even apologize for it. This was a terrible dining experience that I really wish didn't happen because I so wanted to like this place. I honestly can't tell if it was just a bad day or if this is the standard of service overall but my impression sadly is that this is just the way things are here. Access to parking looks tricky if you drive by going West on Central avenue. Take the narrow driveway immediately to the left of the small diner. Gotta love these types of places. Old school dinettes and this one is good. There are about 4 tables inside and an ordering counter get that also has a few seats. They sell some breakfast sandwiches and platter as well as classic old style burgers and sandwiches. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and it was solid. I'd give it 4/5 and the prices are right. They're not many places like this left. Growing up we had a White Diamond sited where the Wine Library is located. On my folks 'date night' dad would pick up a sack of cheeseburgers for us and the babysitter. How this spot has survived astounds me. Corner location, yards from the GSP, surrounded by mega billion dollar chain competitors-God bless them! It's damn tricky to enter and exit, but you're rewarded with terrific sliders. If you're in the mood to lose weight and enjoy getting a food sickness, then this is the place to go to! I came here on a whim with my niece. I decided to have a burger here while she got a breaded chicken sandwich. What I noticed immediately from this place was the lack of cleanliness not only in where you sit but from how the staff handled cleaning as well too. Coming in, no one cleaned the tables or seats. Garbage from other patrons was left on the tables. Not sure if there was a shift change but not a sight you want to witness from a food establishment. Second issue was how the staff handled the food. You had 2 male servers who were handling food, money and cleaning all without gloves. When it came time to preparing my food, they grab condiments and bread from that holding area in the back... with a hand that was handling Raw meats in cooking. In addition when that same server decided to another patron a drink, he grabbed ice from the ice box and spilled some on that metal counter where the ice box was. Instead of tossing the ice out after it touched the metal surface he pushed it back into the ice box with his dirty white rag. I have not thrown up like this since my college drinking days and wasn't trying to relive that memory. Absolutely avoid this spot. There are better spots and places that focus on sanitary conditions as a top priority for the consumer. read more

I'm always torn with places like White Diamond. I really love the ambiance of places like this-old school, greasy spoons. Love the pretty simple menu, the old signs, the grumpy cook, and the really nice woman taking orders. They were ranked as having the best burger in Union County so I had some expectations here. I went with some co-workers at lunchtime, on a Friday, so I also expected the place to be packed. Was pleasantly surprised the place wasn't too busy...and the very nice lady behind the counter wasn't frazzled. I ordered a chili-cheese dog and the #3 - a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and a drink. The chili cheese dog was tasty, (they use Sabrett's and grill them) and the chili was good, but probably wasn't homemade. The onion rings were your normal, frozen and fried rings...so they were tasty, but weren't impressive. I chose poorly on the burger...not because it wasn't delicious, but because it was on a nice kaiser roll and I SHOULD have gotten a double. The burger was just a bit too small/thin for a single. I love that they put this on a Kaiser roll, but had I been here before I would have gotten the double. I broke down and had a second dog with mustard and kraut...the second dog got them the 4th star-very tasty. I wish this place offered shakes, but it's REALLY small. So I get it. I can't say they have the best burger, because I really don't have a lot to compare it to in Union County, but it was very good. They only take cash here-so come prepared. read more

Perfection in the food industry can only be perfected after some time has passed. But for over 75 years, the White Diamond Diner in Clark, NJ has exemplified itself for perfection. Let's just say that Ray Collins made the great decision to move to Clark to partner with his nephew to open and work in the current location. Without his contributions, the Clark White Diamond may not be as well known today. Granted, the diner has a stored history, starting with the Cox Family. Where they were opening up some of the original White Diamonds. The idea that the diner chain was Southern run and meant to be moved into NY is impressive. Alone that speaks that early on, these diners were trying to replicate the equivalent of a fast food restaurant today. Quick service, good food, and reasonable prices. All factors alone would drive people from miles away to visit this diner. So 75+ years later, this diner stands as great as it was before. Upon interviewing the owner of the Clark WD, I was pleased and excited to receive all of this information. I have also been told that most cooking is done with experience originated, but they do provide training for younger employees. There is a reason why this diner has been deemed one of the friendliest and family atmosphere diners. All because the owners were great to work with, and honored that a report was being written about their diner. If anyone is visiting or wants to write reports on good diners, I highly recommend this one. There is almost nothing bad to say about this diner. I have visited this diner twice already, and have nothing bad to say about this diner. Upon arriving, you pick your own seats. Though the space is small, there is plenty of seating. Whether it would be the 10-12 bar stools or five booth seats, there is always a place to sit. Within 5 minutes, you are ordering your meal. The best thing about this diner is, the waiters get to know your faces, where they will memorize your order after you state it. So that they are able to track you down after it is down cooking. All this happens within 10 minutes of you actually being in the diner. Soon the food arrives. I have ordered the double bacon burger the last couple of times that I have gone. It is one of the best burgers that I have ever gotten from a diner. The moment you bite into the burger, you are met with a rush of flavors, plus the test of a freshly cooked burger. The soft chewing of the patty with seasoning melts in your mouth. Eager to take another bite, then another one. Soon you realize that you finished the burger in a matter of minutes. But you don't realize that, due to the flavor rush that you taste. Don't get me started on the bacon. It is cooked to perfection. Grease runs off the bacon as you bite into it. With each crunch of a crispy slice of bacon, it adds to the taste of the burger as mentioned earlier. Overall, it is never expensive to get food from this location. This place is definitely a guilty pleasure! My friends and I frequent the Yestercades roughly a mile away. So at 2 am when the arcade (and more importantly the bars) close, it's the place to be. I'm always a fan of dinner and a show, and the people that come stumbling in are frakking hilarious! I've always loved a good diner and this place isn't just good, its just right! It brings you back to being in college and eating horribly fatty things at 2 am. The burgers are kick ass, the atmosphere is exactly what you think it is, and the menu (while small) is full of things that are as delicious and they are unhealthy. Atmosphere: The White Diamond in Clark cannot be missed off the main road. It's a stainless steel, old school, metallic building. It sticks out. In fact, I've driven by the White Diamond a dozen times on my way to various places, but I never had the time to stop. Thankfully, one day I did. The inside of White Diamond is like a blast from the past. There are plenty of school diner signs (like a retro thunderbird poster) with a few booths and a long bar. Coffee: Like many of the older diners, there wasn't the option for whipped cream, but the coffee came in a 10-ounce to-go cup. I've begun to think that's "a thing" with older diners with "white" in their name. Anyway, it was good coffee. Food: The White Diamond menu is posted at the top of the diner. You go up to the register, order what you want and find a seat. It's a no-frills, no healthy, type of menu. If you're looking for a healthy option, the White Diamond might not be your spot. Since it was quiet, I asked the manager what his favorite menu item was. The White Diamond is known for "breakfast and burgers," so I figured I would probably order one of those. He said it was their "bacon cheeseburger," so I thought, okay, why not.  The bacon cheeseburger was topped with bacon, cheese, ketchup, onions, and pickles. It was good and I can see why he liked it (although he also made it!). Service: Just one person ran the White Diamond. I'm sure it gets busy; they might have 2 people (one cooking and one on the register) but I thought that was cool. The person working was friendly, gave me recommendations, and we just chatted about random things while he made the burger.  I enjoyed how personable he was. Would I Come Back to the White Diamond? I have been a customer of this restaurant since 1965 first walked in with my friends in 1965. The early chefs (grill men) wore paper hats and Texas String Ties. The Cheeseburgers on Hard Poppy Seed Rolls are the best I have ever eaten. I no longer live in Jersey, but every time I visit NYC I make the trip to White Diamond it is simply that good! Soo I finally got a chance to come here and I have to say I was pretty impressed! I had a friend order breakfast from here for me on a whim and I've been wanting to come back ever since. I ordered a Turkey sausage, egg & cheese with home fries on a roll as a breakfast sandwich for pick up. The person on the phone both times was really nice and efficient with taking my order. Both times I came to pick up, my food was ready warm and very delicious. The roll itself was a "poppy seed" style roll but it was soft and delectable-there was definitely no complaints! Although the diner itself is small, it gives you kinda that 1950's Elvis feel to it. The staff is very friendly and helps you out right away. The place itself is very clean with a classic style counter/bar to sit at and I felt very welcomed walking in. There is a parking lot right outside which seemed to be somewhat "tight" however each time I went- the parking lot wasn't crowded. In all honesty, the only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because so far I've only tried one thing on the menu but I have to say my experience both times have been nothing short of amazing. The place is open all day and all night. There are not many eateries like this anymore. There was a small counter with about 5 chairs and 5 or so tables? Everything was made to order. The menu ranged from breakfast sandwiches to cheesesteaks. All foods were very cheap and only cash was accepted. The food was ordered for takeout and it did not take long to be ready. I had a double chili cheeseburger with fries. There was also pickles and fried onions present on the burger. It was messy, but succulent nonetheless. The chili was spicy and the roll was very soft with the presence of the chili. The burgers were thin and cooked to a medium well I would say. The fries were cooked to my liking too. Will I go back? Was in the area for a local cross country country meet at Oak Ridge Park and passed by White Diamond and was intrigued by the looks and did some research and found this place came pretty highly rated. Would have loved to dine in, but was on the run to get back, so opted to order it to go. Picked two small hamburgers and fries with a price point of about $6.50 out the door. Burgers were tasty as well as the fries. Everything one would expect from a small time local establishment. With other menu items that looked just as tasty, may have to plan more time when I find myself in the area. Pretty sure there is at least one more event in the near future. While not confident, pretty sure it's a cash only business and Whole sign says 24/7, like most places nowadays I don't think they are 24/7. Definitely worth checking out. While there may be other burgers places near by, I recommend this place hands down than other places. read more
